Click to increase image sizeClick to decrease image size Additional informationNotes on contributorsOlle SturenSturen, Olle: A Civil engineer graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Mr. Sturen was appointed Secretary-General of ISO in 1968, relinquishing then the post of Director of the Swedish Standards Institution. From 1953 to 1956, Mr. Sturen served in Turkey as a United Nations expert on industrial standardization and assisted in setting up the Turkish Standards Institute. During that period, he also served Officer-in-Charge of the United Nations Office in Ankara, Turkey.One of the initiators of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) he also served as its Chairman 1966–1968. Mr. Sturen became a Fellow of the Standards Engineers Society of the USA in 1970. In 1972, the King of Sweden awarded him the Swedish Royal Medal for Standardization Achievements. In March 1980, he was awarded the Astin-Polk International Standards Medal by ANSI (American National Standards Institute) for distinguished contributions to international standardization.
