To the Editor. —Playing cards of superior legibility, helpful to the partially sighted, have been designed and printed by Melissa Duffner and me. The cards are of standard size, 57 × 90 mm (2¼ × 3½ in). The faces of the usual 52-card deck are divided into upper and lower halves. The alphanumerals of maximum size are imprinted on the upper halves of the cards and the suit symbols, square, triangle, diamond, and circle (indicating, respectively, clubs, spades, diamonds, and hearts), are on the lower halves. Warm red and black on a white background are the colors. These cards are legible when visual acuity is as low as 20/800. They may be obtained from Duffner and Sutton, Low Vision Clinic, Department of Ophthalmology, Truman Medical Center, Kansas City, MO 64108.
