Abstract Aspects of the reproductive biology of the Limonium genus. - Some factors characterizing the reproductive biology of the genus Limonium are here discussed. These are: the apomixis, the pollen-stigma dimorphism (necessary cross-pollination in the amphimitic plants) and the natural trend to hybridation. All these factors caused a differentiation of triploid and polyploid species. Apomixis is a inborn character in the genus and occours when cross-fertilization is prevented. The role of this phenomena in the Limonium genus evolution is also discussed.
