Several transition metal salts were exposed to gaseous trimethylamine (TMA) at room temperature in a gas cell designed to allow measurement of i.r. energy absorption at varying pressures. For those salts which did form complexes with the TMA gas, the absorption bands between 4000 and 400 cm −1 are discussed in reference to i.r. spectra of TMA complexes of known composition.
