CDF central muon level-1 trigger electronics

We present the level-1 trigger module used for the CDF central muon drift chambers. Addressable registers select trigger mode for calibration, debugging, or data acquisition. A transverse momentum cut on muons exiting the solenoidal magnetic field region is made by using drift time differences between aligned pairs of anode sense wires. Cosmic ray results are presented and track angle selection is shown to be better than 5 mrad.

Multielement Proportional Chamber for 136Xe ββ decay

A Multielement Proportional Chamber designed to investigate ββ decay of 136Xe is described. The detector consists of 61 cells. arranged in a honeycomb structure. Each cell is 80 cm long and has a hexagonal cross section of 2.5 cm side. The anodes are 20 μm diameter gold plated tungsten wires. Each cathode consists of 24 copper-beryllium wires of 100 μm diameter. This structure is mounted in a titanium vessel of 40 cm diameter and 110 cm length. In order to obtain a very low background all the materials used were selected for their low intrinsic activities. The detector is operated with Xe at 10 bar; a purification system keeps the oxygen like impurities below 0.2 ppm. The electronics consists of 61 hybrid charge sensitive preamplifiers followed by 7 bit CAMAC flash-ADCs to digitize and store the pulses. An auxiliary output of the preamplifier is used to drive a trigger module that can be preset to any configuration of total energy and/or anode pattern. The chamber, presently under test, will soon be installed in the Gran Sasso underground Laboratory for data taking. Measurements on energy resolution over several cells and on charge transport are described.

Trigger control system of the PF linac

The trigger control system of the Photon Factory 2.5 GeV electron linac at KEK is described. The trigger system is composed of a pulse repetition rate generator, a storage ring rf synchronizing system, main delay modules and a sector trigger system. Some trigger modules have microprocessors and are fully controllable by the linac control system through a serial communication line. Some other trigger modules are planned to be remotely controlled using CAMAC modules or RS232C communication lines.

Trigger circuits for use in flash photolytic experiments

Two trigger modules suitable for use in flash photolytic apparatus are described. One generates a 30 kV pulse for overvoltage triggering of flash lamps or control of spark gaps. The other produces high voltage, high current pulses for initiating conduction in mercury ignitrons.

Digital computation of cycloconverter operation

The flow chart for the SCR trigger module for use in a three-pulse cycloconverter circuit is discussed. Generalized equations for simulating the cycloconverter operation are derived. A mathematical expression for the digital computation of output voltage harmoniic components is derived in terms of the Fourier transform. The computed results of cycloconverter operation for an R-L load are presented.
