Spontaneous Rectal Perforation with Transanal Evisceration

We present the case of an 83-year-old woman that visited the emergency room of our hospital for correcting the transanal small bowel evisceration after a defecatory effort, without any history of rectal trauma. Emergency laparotomy was indicated, with the intraoperative finding of perforation in the anterior superior rectum, with a defect of approximately 3 cm. Due to the absence of fecaloid peritonitis, it was decided to perform a primary closure with double sutures. The patient evolved favorably.

Strangulated Transanal Evisceration of Small Bowel Complicating Rectal Prolapse of the Child: An Observation of the University Hospital Center of Parakou, Benin

Transanal intestinal evisceration is an extremely rare and dramatic digestive surgical emergency. The cases reported in the literature are few and concern much more elderly patients. We report the case of a 3-year-old boy admitted in very general poor condition to the emergency department, late for transanal evisceration complicating rectal prolapse that the parents tried to reduce. The fatal outcome of this case is probably related to strangulation and delay in consultation. We learn from this that parents should avoid inopportune prolapse reduction and early consultation.

Transanal Evisceration of Small Bowel about One Case at the University Hospital Yalgado Ouédraogo of Ouagadougou

Introduction: Transanal evisceration of small bowel is an extremely rare condition that can occur spontaneously or after trauma. Objective: To report a case of Transanal evisceration of small bowel to describe the circumstances of occurrence and our therapeutic attitude. Observation: An 80-year-old female patient was received at the visceral Emergency of University Hospital Yalgado Ouédraogo for the outcome of the small intestine by the anus with the waning of a defecation effort. The physical examination of the patient accustomed to evacuation purgation noted, eviscerated the small bowel through the anus, edematous but viable. The preoperative laboratory tests were normal. In emergency, under general anesthesia, a laparotomy was possible to objectify the incarceration of intestinal loops through linear perforation of 5 cenimeter from the anterior surface of the rectosigmoid hinge. We conducted an ileo-ileal resection anastomosis, a suture rectosigmoid breach and anal extraction of small bowel incarcerated measuring 200 centimeter. The evolution was simple. Conclusion: The weakening of the rectal mucosa by repeated purges has certainly been the contributory factor. The surgical treatment must be precocious to avoid extensive intestinal resection.

Transanal Evisceration of Small Bowel-A Rare Surgical Emergency

Transanal evisceration of small bowel is an extremely rare surgical emergency. This is the condition in which the small bowel herniates through breach in the anterior rectal wall and seen eviscerating through the anal canal. It is challenging for a surgeon to deal and manage such a case during emergency, especially if he hasn't dealt with such condition earlier. The present case reported is of 68 year old lady referred to an institution with history of transanal herniation of small bowel for three days duration, following manual reduction of chronic rectal prolapse. The case report illustrates aetiology, management & factors influencing the outcome of this rare emergency have been discussed.

Blunt abdominal trauma with transanal small bowel evisceration

Small bowel evisceration through the anus can occur spontaneously or post traumatically. Traumatic transanal small bowel evisceration results from iatrogenic injuries, suction injuries, and blunt abdominal trauma (BAT). We report a 48-year-old female who presented with evisceration of small intestinal loops through the anus following BAT and discuss the etiologies and mechanisms of injury of this rare presentation.

Evisceration of the small intestine through the anus is an extremely rare event in children. We report a 2-year-old boy who sustained transanal small bowel evisceration associated with bilateral diaphragmatic rupture, left diaphragmatic herniation, and spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality which happened after crushing by motor vehicle. We reviewed children with transanal small bowel evisceration and discussed etiological differences between children and adult. We also discussed the basic principles of management and follow up in these patients.

Suction evisceration from a pool drain is a rare injury. This child presented with what appeared to be isolated perineal trauma. Ultimately, the patient was found to have complete transanal small bowel evisceration. Reported herein are the specifics of this case, along with a review of the relevant literature relating to this case.

Transanal Small Bowel Eviceration due to Traumatic Rectal Perforation

Transanal small bowel evisceration by rectal perforation is a very rare presentation. It occurs spontaneously or in association with trauma. We experienced a 20-year-old female patient who had transanal evisceration of the small bowel due to blunt trauma. Operative findings showed traumatic rectal perforation and gangrenous change of the eviscerated small bowel due to tearing of the small bowel mesentery. Segmental resection of gangrenous small bowel with immediate anastomosis and Hartmann’s procedure of rectal perforation were performed. After 9 months, reduction of sigmoid colostomy and colorectal anastomosis were performed. We report this rare case with a review of the literature.

Transanal Small Bowel Evisceration: An Unusual Presentation of Rectal Impalement

Traumatic transanal small bowel evisceration is a rare condition usually associated with suction injuries or blunt abdominal trauma. We report the first case of intestinal evisceration through the anus caused by penetrating trauma (rectal impalement). Additionally, we performed a literature review of all English language articles since 1970 concerned with traumatic transanal small bowel evisceration. Mechanisms of injury and the surgical management are discussed.

Transanal evisceration of small bowel: case report and review of the literature

We report an unusual case of small bowel evisceration through the anus in an otherwise healthy 24-year old African male who denied any social or traumatic anal penetration. He describes a prolapsing rectum since childhood that was never investigated. Unfortunately he had also spent two years in prison in the past during which years he had smuggled ‘dagga condoms' intra-rectally on several occasions. At laparotomy we retrieved small bowel through an anterior rectal perforation and performed an extensive resection. Our operative management was straightforward and we looked for possible diagnostic clues intra-operatively including histological sampling. An extensive photographic iconography illustrates the case. Our final diagnosis remains uncertain. The prolapsing rectum has not recurred since the laparotomy. We reviewed the literature for reports on ‘transanal evisceration' and associated causes. Anorectal impalement in a pediatric patient with transanal evisceration of small bowel

Rectal injuries in the pediatric population are most often attributed to accidental falls on offending objects, sexual abuse, or blunt trauma. Anorectal impalement is a rare injury, and as a result, specific knowledge or experience on the treatment of this type of injury in children is sparse. The extent of injury is often difficult to assess. Mostly, therapeutical decisions are based on general knowledge in adults. We present a case of accidental anorectal impalement in a child by a fall on the handle of a toilet brush. The handle caused an anterior rupture of the intraperitoneal part of the rectum with subsequent transanal evisceration of several loops of small bowel.

Successful Laparoscopic Repair of Spontaneous Rectosigmoid Rupture With an Acute Transanal Small Bowel Evisceration

This report describes the first successful laparoscopic approach for transanal small bowel evisceration secondary to spontaneous rectal rupture, indeed a very rare event. A brief description of our technique and the pathophysiologic features of this condition are given.
