Geographic information system of station stop points web-based cross-terrain train

North Sumatra is one of the metropolitan cities in Indonesia with a population density in various fields and education and has various kinds of information related to its geographical location, such as information on roads and the location of a train station, school, office, shopping area and so on. Of course, this information is needed by various parties for their respective needs. The absence of media for the community in finding a location makes it difficult for the community to find a place, especially a train station. The public needs information about the geographical location of train station stop points and the mileage of each station digitally so that it is easier for the public to find locations and information about train station stop points. With this problem, then giving the author an idea to raise the title "Web-Based Geographic Information System of Stop Point Railway Station Lintas Medan-Siantar Line" in the preparation of this thesis. With this web application, the author hopes to help the community in finding the location of the Medan-Siantar train station stop points. The programming language used to design this application is PHP, MySql as the database and ArcView as the map making application.

Health Behaviours among Travellers Regarding Risk Compensation Following COVID-19 Vaccination in Taizhou, China.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, public transport was restricted in many countries because of the transmission risk. According to the risk compensation theory, travellers post-COVID-19 vaccination may encounter higher risks; however, no real-world studies provide such evidence. Therefore, we conducted a survey to assess whether risk compensation would occur among travellers' health-related behaviours after COVID-19 vaccination, potentially aggravating the transmission of the virus. A self-administered online survey was designed and distributed over WeChat to identify the difference in health behaviours before and after COVID-19 vaccination among travellers at a train station in Taizhou, China, from 13 February to 26 April 2022. A total of 602 individuals completed the questionnaire. The results revealed no statistical difference between the health behaviours reported by the vaccinated and unvaccinated groups. Participants who received the first dose of the vaccine earlier showed no statistical difference in harmful health behaviours (hand washing frequency decreased by 4.1% (P=0.145) and the duration of public transport travel increased by 3.4% (P=0.437)), but showed better protective health behaviours (mask-wearing duration increased by 24.7% (P=0.014)). Compared to those vaccinated less than three times, participants vaccinated against COVID-19 three times showed no statistical differences in harmful health behaviours mask-wearing duration decreased by 7.0% (P=0.927), their hand washing frequency decreased by 4.8% (P=0.905), and the duration of public transport travel increased by 2.5% (P=0.287). After vaccination, when compared to themselves before vaccination, participants exhibited better health behaviours (increased hand washing frequency and mask-wearing duration, and decreased duration of public transport travel) to some extent. In conclusion, this study found no evidence of risk compensation among travellers. After being vaccinated, health behaviours partly improved among travellers.

What is the market potential for on-demand services as a train station access mode?

On-demand mobility services (FLEX) are often proposed as a solution for the first/last mile problem. We study the potential of using FLEX to improve train station access by means of a three-step sequential stated preference survey. We compare FLEX with the bicycle, car and public transport for accessing two alternative train stations. We estimate a joint access mode and train station choice model. Estimating a latent class choice model with different nesting structures, we uncover four distinct segments in the population. Two segments (∼50%) with a lower Willingness-to-Pay seem to be more likely to take-up FLEX. Ex-urban car drivers seem to be the most likely segment to adopt FLEX, showing great, since members of this segment are currently frequent users of the private car. Our case study also shows that while FLEX competes primarily with public transport when accessing local stations, it competes primarily with car for reaching distant stations.

A study of metro’s influence on the primary housing market in Warsaw, Poland

Residential real estate prices vary significantly, being susceptible to numerous components. One of the most contributing factors is thought to be the proximity of an underground train (metro) station. Classically, the relationship between housing prices and distance to a metro station is measured by a hedonic model. This paper presents a new method to study such a relationship, and it is a new composite index - Metro Station Proximity Effect Estimator (MSPEE), which allows looking at differences between not only metro stations but also the city districts. The MSPEE index was calculated as a mean of a set of sub-indicators, assembled as variables determining the final value of the composite indicator. Through the MSPEE index as well as more traditional methods, the paper suggests and illustrates a generally strong negative correlation between the proximity of Metro and apartment prices. Moreover, the study lists and describes exceptions to the trend around Warsaw.

Eye-Tracking Investigation of the Train Driver’s: A Case Study

This article investigates the utilization of eye-tracking methodology to monitor the driver’s activities and attention during the arrival and departure procedures of train operations on Slovak Railway (ŽSR) line no. 120, Bratislava–Žilina. Previous studies conducted in 2020 formed the basis of the current research, which focused on two train stations and two railway stops located on the Žilina–Púchov track section. The results of the experiment allowed for a greater understanding of the driver’s cognitive processes, thereby leading to increased safety and sustainability in the railway transport system. It is noteworthy that the employed measurement methodology and technology had no detrimental effect on train operation, or operational and thus passenger safety. Thus, the results of this experiment provide a sound foundation for further exploration into human–machine (driver–train) interaction in actual traffic conditions.

Are vehicle on-demand and shared services a favorable solution for the first and last-mile mobility: Evidence from China

Vehicle on-demand and shared services (VDSS), such as Uber, Lyft, Didi and Car2go, have experienced rapid growth over the last decade. While these emerging mobility services have advantages, such as serving as an alternative mode for public transit, it remains unclear to what extent the services are adopted by different user groups, particularly in the context of first and last-mile mobility and how demand varies in different periods. To fill this research gap, we conducted a comprehensive travel survey of 1,420 railway passengers in China, to examine how VDSS were utilized for the first and last-mile connection with train stations. Using binary and multinomial logit modeling analysis, the study shows that the attitude toward VDSS was influenced by various factors and the outcomes varied substantially before and after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the research findings, we recommend that transportation planning and operation agencies should add ride-sourcing waiting and car-sharing parking sites at railway stations to further improve their advantages of flexibility and convenience. Meanwhile, attention should be paid to maintaining a healthy, safe and relaxed riding environment to facilitate VDSS usage. The equity issue of VDSS should also be addressed through strategies, such as providing special discounts or subsidies to certain lower-income user groups so that wider social groups may also enjoy such services. In terms of mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, further attention should be paid to improving a healthy and clean riding environment in VDSS to reduce the risk to public health.

Familiar Strangers and Crime at Transit Stations: Is Crime Lower at Train Stations Where Familiar Strangers are Present?

Familiar strangers—individuals related through regular and repeated visual encounter occurring without verbal interaction—may reduce the risk of crime at places by increasing guardianship and internal motivation for norm compliance. This study examines the association between familiar stranger presence and incidents of theft and disorder at train stations using transit smart card and crime data for 22 stations across a six-month period. Familiar strangers are operationally defined as individual transit cards that are co-present within a 30-min temporal window on more than two occasions across a one-month period at a given train station. We apply logistic regression to estimate the likelihood of disorder and theft crimes within a 400-m radius of train stations controlling for station environmental features, co-located facilities and neighbourhood socio-demographic characteristics. Our results show that the impact of familiar strangers on crime (disorder and theft) at train stations is moderated by the neighbourhood socio-demographic context. This may suggest that macro-level norms of informal social control are important for determining crime at micro-places such as transit stations. The findings also indicate that urban design and transport policies require greater flexibility to enable intra-network variability in station design and formal security to enhance ridership.

Shaking table test of steel truss frame focusing on acceleration and strain response for post-earthquake buckling evaluation

Large-span steel structures have been widely adopted in stadiums, airports, factories, and train stations because they provide a large space for multi-functional use. To ensure business continuity, post-earthquake damage surveys and structural status estimation of such important and large-spaced buildings have attracted increasing attention. Structural health monitoring of buildings using accelerometers is already in widespread use; however, measuring the acceleration response alone cannot directly estimate the damage of individual structural members. Another potential approach is to measure strain; however, its application to building structures is very limited. The goal of this study is to establish a method for quantitatively determining the damage of a large-scale truss structure immediately after an earthquake. Truss structure specimens were statically loaded or shaken by a shaking table to cause buckling damage, and the relationship between the changes in acceleration and strain response before and after buckling and the progress of the damage were investigated. The response properties of both acceleration and strain changed as buckling damage progressed. However, the strain amplitude measured on the chord members showed significant change according to the progress of buckling damage, while the changes in the predominant frequency and mode shape calculated from the acceleration response were small. It was shown that the observed out-of-plane deformation was almost linear to the strain response, indicating the possibility of quantitative assessment of damage by strain measurement.

Smart Management Waiting System for Outpatient Clinic

Queuing has become a common occurrence in malls, train stations, and others. Queuing especially in healthcare intuitions has become a center of attraction because of the long waiting time either at the registration or in receiving treatments. Therefore, in solving this problem, a smart management waiting system for outpatient clinics is developed by using AppGyver and Backendless as the data storage. This system will be operating by QR code scanning for administrators to obtain patients’ personal information before patients obtain the queue number via MyQUEUE mobile application (patients’ interface). By providing queue numbers through the mobile application, patients don’t have to wait in a small uncomfortable waiting lounge instead patients can wait at their desired places such as cafeteria, in their car, and others. Patients also don’t have to worry about missing their turns because there will be a 10 minutes reminder before their turn. Other than that, there is a feature that digitalized the appointment details which means patients don’t have to worry about missing their appointment book or card. The performance of both systems which are the patients’ interface and administrators’ interface is successfully designed and the output obtained. The administrator is able to assign queue numbers, notify patients 10 minutes before consultation time, and assign follow-up appointments to patients.

Evaluating future railway-induced urban growth of twelve cities using multiple SLEUTH models with open-source geospatial inputs

Plausible urban growth projections aid in the understanding and treatment of multidisciplinary issues faced in society. In this work, we investigated the possible effects of train stations on urban growth by comparing urban projections from a cellular-automata-based land use change model, named SLEUTH, with versions (i.e. SLEUTsH and SLEUTsHGA introduced in this study) that can consider railway-induced urban growth and those (i.e. SLEUTH and SLEUTHGA) that do not. It was found that the influence of the railway stations on urban growth varied with time and according to each city. In general, railway stations induced urbanization in their immediate surroundings. However, edge growth, which is growth at the urban boundaries was slow in the first five years of the future prediction. As demonstrated by the higher urban growth rates simulated for the first few years in the SLEUTsH cases than the SLEUTH cases, the presence of railway stations will lead to more rapid urbanization in the 2040s. Mainly relying on publicly available GIS datasets, this work demonstrates the potential for modeling railway-induced urban growth on a global scale. The findings can be further confirmed with other cellular-automata models using a similar methodology.

Analysis of User Acceptance Using UTAUT2 Model in KAI Access Application

The convenience provided by mobile applications provides substantial opportunities for companies, especially those engaged in the service sector to improve performance and service to customers and get the best feedback as the value of the company's competitive advantage. This study aims to determine the factors that influence behavioral intention and use behavior in the KAI Access application using the UTAUT2 model for users of the KAI Access application. The variables used in this study are performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habit, behavioral intention, and use behavior. The number of respondents who can be used for data analysis and processing in this study was 257 respondents, with details of 27 offline respondents and 230 online respondents. The data was obtained from the distribution of google forms through various social media and the distribution of questionnaires directly at the Kertapati Palembang train station. The research method uses quantitative methods and analytical techniques using validity and reliability tests with Rasch Modeling, Path Analysis, Classical Assumption Test, Anova Test, and Partial Test. The results of the study concluded that performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, and habit affect the behavioral intention and use behavior of the KAI Access application. The most influential/significant variables are facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, and habit.

Export of tourist services of Belarus to China

The article discusses the institutional foundations of mutually beneficial Belarusian-Chinese tourism cooperation. The research aims to explore the state, problems, and prospects for the development of the tourism industry in China and Belarus and to develop proposals for the development of tourism export services to China. The authors examine the structure of the tourism industry in Belarus and China, the inductive prerequisites for the development of the tourism sector of the two countries, as well as global trends in the field of tourism related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Special attention was paid to developing promising types of tourism in Belarus and China, such as "red," rural, folklore, digital, and “winter” tourism. The case of the Republic of Belarus, which may be helpful for Central and Eastern Europe countries, illustrates the possible directions for the growth of tourism export services to China, thanks to the optimisation of measures to prevent and control COVID-19. This optimisation contributed to the cross-border movement of Chinese citizens and opened up opportunities to attract Chinese tourists to the Belarusian market and the markets of Central and Eastern Europe. We have emphasised that for Belarus, achieving significant results in the development of the export of tourist services to China involves solving some essential tasks: conducting large-scale and ongoing advertising and informational campaigns to increase the awareness of foreign audiences about tourism products and recognition of the country as an attractive tourist destination; development and implementation of an incentive system for tour operators from China; performance of activities to adapt the service in hotels, airports, train stations, restaurants, museums to the individual characteristics and specific needs of tourists from China; improving the tax-free system to increase the interest of citizens from China in visiting Belarus.

An Interpretable Station Delay Prediction Model Based on Graph Community Neural Network and Time-Series Fuzzy Decision Tree

High-speed train delay prediction has always been one of the important research issues in the railway dispatching. Accurate and interpretable delay prediction can enable staff to implement preventive measures and scheduling decisions in advance, and guide relevant departments to cooperate in completing complex transportation tasks, so as to improve rail transit operations, service quality, and the efficiency of train operation. This article proposes a new interpretable model based on graph community neural network and time-series fuzzy decision tree. This model can well capture the influence of spatiotemporal characteristics, train community structure, and multifactor in high-speed train station delay prediction. Besides, the time series fuzzy decision tree based on multiobjective optimization and reduced error pruning can mine potential decision rules to improve the model's interpretability, transparency, and high reliability. Finally, we prove that the prediction effect of the proposed model is superior than the other seven state-of-the-art models and our model is interpretable.

Behavioral and location-related antecedents of train suicides.

In the European Union, over 2000 suicides on railway premises were reported in 2020. Identifying individuals' behavioral and location patterns just before they die or attempt to die by train suicide (ITS) is critical for effective prevention of suicides by train. We conducted a naturalistic study using a newly developed instrument for the assessment of fatalities in rail traffic that used information from on-site video cameras. A total of 56 case files and surveillance recordings of ITS prior to their suicide or suicide attempt were compared to 46 surveillance recordings of matched regular train passengers (RTP) before they boarded their trains. Groups were compared on individuals' behavior as well as location and contextual parameters. ITS performed unusual movement patterns more frequently, carried luggage less often, stayed on the platform longer, and let more trains pass relative to RTP. If this study is replicated with a larger sample, artificial intelligence could be used to detect suspicious/unusual (movement) patterns in order to prevent train suicide. Social awareness campaigns that foster the identification of people in distress at train stations in combination with lower thresholds for the use of emergency devices on platforms may help to detect potential train suicides and reduce their incidence.

Uncovering Spatial Patterns and Temporal Trends in the Ageing of the Tokyo Metropolis Population

Urban populations are ageing, but the spatial and temporal distribution of the older adult population is highly heterogeneous, which has implications for resource allocation, service provision, and infrastructure needs. Based on the method proposed by Atkins & Tonts (2016), we used the interplay between changes in the number and proportion of the older adult population to identify population ageing types: accumulation (both the number and proportion of the older adult population increases); decline (both the number and the proportion of the older adult population decreases); dilution (the number of individuals in the older adult population increases while the proportion decreases); and concentration (the number of individuals in the older adult population decreases while the proportion increases). We investigated the spatial distribution and temporal trends of these types of population ageing in the Tokyo Metropolis during 2000–2015 in a 500-m grid using distance from the JR Yamanote Line and the nearest train station as geographic reference points. Accumulation and dilution occurred in east Tokyo, peaking at 10–40 km from the JR Yamanote Line and decreasing within 1 km of the nearest train station, respectively. Decline and concentration increased with distance in west Tokyo, and were more prevalent at distances of more than 40 km from the JR Yamanote Line and more than 8 km from the nearest train station. The allocation of urban resources should be optimised to meet the changing needs of the ageing population, particularly in suburbs and mountainous areas.

Surveillance on Tactile-Based Media Accessibility Levels for the Visually Impaired in Bandung Train Stations

This paper intended to survey tactile-based media accessibility levels for the visually impaired in train stations incorporated in Operational Region II Bandung. Data collection got conducted on interviews with 30 visually impaired. Research objects included context as an orientation and mobility (OM) system as stated in 'Regulation of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 36 of 2019 concerning Minimum Service Standards for Transporting People by Train' and 'Regulation of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing of the Republic of Indonesia Number 14 of 2017 concerning the Requirements for Building Facilities Convenience’, namely: tactile paving, braille sign , signage, map, information board, and ticket. Generally, the visually impaired did not receive good minimum services at the station since the universal design principles had not yet get applied to design tactile-based accessibility standards. The accessibility levels of those media came from the visually impaired pragmatical usage.

The Level Performace Analysis of Service: A Case of Jalan I Gusti Ngurah RAI, Jakarta

Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai, which is located in the Administrative City of East Jakarta, is one of the areas with quite crowded visitors because it is one of the access roads connecting Bekasi City to Jakarta, and there is a train station and TransJakarta bus stop which is a travel accommodation to the destination. This study aims to determine the level of pavement service performance on the Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai section, East Jakarta. This research was conducted using a questionnaire instrument distributed through a google form. The analysis method used in this study is Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) by comparing the satisfaction and importance values of pedestrians passing through the sidewalk. The results showed that the average pedestrian interest index was 4.44, the average service index was 4.03, and there was an average GAP for each variable of -0.42. From the processed data, it was concluded that the performance of the pavement service level could be categorized in class A with some maintenance that needs to be improved.

Mobile eye tracking applied as a tool for customer experience research in a crowded train station.

Train stations have increasingly become crowded, necessitating stringent requirements in the design of stations and commuter navigation through these stations. In this study, we explored the use of mobile eye tracking in combination with observation and a survey to gain knowledge on customer experience in a crowded train station. We investigated the utilization of mobile eye tracking in ascertaining customers' perception of the train station environment and analyzed the effect of a signalization prototype (visual pedestrian flow cues), which was intended for regulating pedestrian flow in a crowded underground passage. Gaze behavior, estimated crowd density, and comfort levels (an individual's comfort level in a certain situation), were measured before and after the implementation of the prototype. The results revealed that the prototype was visible in conditions of low crowd density. However, in conditions of high crowd density, the prototype was less visible, and the path choice was influenced by other commuters. Hence, herd behavior appeared to have a stronger effect than the implemented signalization prototype in conditions of high crowd density. Thus, mobile eye tracking in combination with observation and the survey successfully aided in understanding customers' perception of the train station environment on a qualitative level and supported the evaluation of the signalization prototype the crowded underground passage. However, the analysis process was laborious, which could be an obstacle for its practical use in gaining customer insights.
