Quicklib: A Rapid Library Management Solution

QuickLib is a new kind of library management system that puts special focus on remote access features while streamlining resource monitoring, user administration, and cataloging. User convenience and accessibility are limited by the frequent lack of effective remote access options in traditional library management systems. QuickLib fills this need by enabling users to access library resources from any location with an internet connection. In comparison to conventional systems, QuickLib's efficiency, usability, and performance are highlighted in this paper's presentation of its architecture, implementation, and assessment. Findings show that QuickLib is more efficient in terms of speed, responsiveness, and user satisfaction than other solutions, which makes it a great tool for libraries and educational establishments looking to update their library services. Integrated Library Management System

Traditional library management systems often suffer from a lack of automation, resulting in inefficient processes and limited user engagement, with cataloguing, book transactions, and user interactions remaining manual. This hindrance hampers the seamless functioning of libraries in an era dominated by digital innovation, ultimately leading to a diminished library experience for both librarians and patrons. The aim of this project is to revolutionize library management by designing and implementing an efficient and user-friendly Integrated Library Management System (ILMS). The focus lies in addressing the shortcomings of existing systems through the incorporation of modern technologies, fostering automation, and enhancing user engagement. The primary objective is to elevate user engagement through a virtual bookshelf, seamless integration with E-book platforms, and improved accessibility features in the ILMS. By providing users with a more immersive and personalized experience, the ILMS aims to bridge the gap between traditional library services and the expectations of users in the digital age.

Library management and reader service on students’ psychological well-being

BackgroundThe library, as a quiet and warm learning place, provides a good reading environment and learning resources for college students. Study the impact of library management and reader service improvement on readers’ mental health and personality improvement, in order to further provide a good learning environment and services for college students.Subjects and MethodsThe study selected two freshmen from the same class with different majors in a certain university for an experiment. Class A adopted traditional library management and reader service models and served as the control group; Class B adopts the upgraded library management and reader service model as the experimental group, with an experimental period of one semester. A questionnaire survey was conducted on the psychological health and personality improvement of two groups of students before and after the experiment, and Excel and SPSS22.0 were used as analysis and statistical tools.ResultsThe research results indicate that there is a significant difference in the level of mental health and personality improvement between the experimental group and the control group after the experiment. The average mental health level and personality improvement level of the experimental group students were higher than those of the control group, with results of (93.27 ± 0.25) and (80.24 ± 1.63), respectively.ConclusionsThe management and reader service improvement of university libraries have a positive impact on the psychological health and personality improvement of college students’ readers.Acknowledgement2016 Tianjin Education Planning Project, Research on the co construction and sharing of library resources of Higher Vocational Colleges in Tianjin Education Park (No.vesp3003).

Research on the Application of Cloud Computing in University Library Management System

At present, most libraries have to build their own library management system, which is undoubtedly a high-input work for large libraries or small and medium-sized libraries in developed areas. As a newly emerging technology in recent years, the huge advantages of cloud computing are incomparable to many traditional technologies. The biggest feature of cloud computing is that it can transfer the computing power of the computer to the corresponding software, from which customers can access the computer's storage system to obtain the information they need, so that resources can be shared and users can get it in time. Therefore, the traditional library management system architecture will also be challenged, and it is urgent to develop a library management system based on cloud computing. This paper studies the architecture of university library management system based on cloud computing.

FOLIO: The Future of Library is Open

Ranganathan's 5th law of library science says that libraries never become stagnant. While financial constraints are a common challenge for libraries, user expectations are continuously growing. To meet and exceed user expectations, libraries must embrace new technologies and software solutions. Open-source options have proven to be particularly beneficial for nonprofit organizations like libraries. Looking to the future, as libraries continue their digital transformation, many library automation software, especially traditional library management systems (ILS), are becoming outdated. In response to the diverse requirements of libraries, the architecture of Library Services Platforms (LSP) offers enhanced flexibility and functionality within a unified platform. Among the various LSPs that have emerged over the past seven years, FOLIO has demonstrated rapid development and progress. Upon exploration, it becomes evident that FOLIO's developers have prioritized a micro-services architecture, emphasizing apps over modules. This approach provides a comprehensive multitasking app environment, a user-friendly Dashboard for quick access, efficient data management, and much more. The user-friendly nature of FOLIO sets it apart from traditional Integrated Library Systems (ILS), which may lack such ease of use. Despite its abundant features, FOLIO is still relatively under-recognized in India. This paper aims to discuss the distinctive features of FOLIO, it’s potential as a comprehensive solution for libraries, and whether it can effectively replace traditional ILS systems.

Construction of Library's Smart Ecosystem in the "Smart+" Era

Design and Implementation of Intelligent Library System Based on Big data

In most traditional library management systems, readers have to find their interest books through the name or search approximate content from library, which results in wasting time. With the help of big data technology, we construct the intelligent library system using SSM framework and Hadoop framework. A recommendation approach combined co-filtering with content-based recommendations, is introduced to make better recommend efficiency. The system has the intelligent ability of self-learning. For historical lending books data, it uses the Spark MLlib machine learning algorithm library to build clustering or classification models. On the other hand, the system uses Kafka and SparkStreaming to process real-time data. System simulation shows that it has high recommendation accuracy and good timeliness.

Near-field Communication (NFC)

Libraries are the central agencies for the dissemination of knowledge. Every library aspires to provide maximum opportunities to its users and ensure optimum utilization of available resources. Hence, libraries have been seeking technological aids to improve their services. Near-field communication (NFC) is a type of radio-frequency technology that allows electronics devices—such as computers, mobile phones, tags, and others—to exchange information wirelessly across a small distance. The aim of this paper is to explore NFC technology and its applications in modern era. The paper will discuss potential use of NFC in the advancement of traditional library management system.

Intelligent Electronic Management of Library by Radio Frequency Identification Technology

In the information era, the knowledge learned in the campus can hardly meet the needs of the society, so the library has become one of the choices for people to supplement their knowledge. With the increasing demand for libraries, the traditional library management method has been difficult to support the demand. In order to promote the intelligent transformation of the library, the basic structure and principle of Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) technology were briefly introduced in this paper, and the intelligent library management system based on RFID was also introduced. Then the library of Huaqiao University was divided into two regions, and the performance of collection counting, book query and passage efficiency of traditional library management based on magnetic stripe together with bar code and intelligent library management based on RFID were compared. The results showed that the collection counting efficiency of intelligent libraries was much higher than that of traditional libraries, the high accuracy and stability of book query avoided the dislocation and chaos like traditional libraries, and there was no congestion even during rush hours because of the higher passing efficiency.

 The present of status of requirements is outlined as the basis for describing the problem (Traditional Library Management System) which EECLMS is intended to deal with and solve a database has been design to fit the above requirements using Microsoft/access.
 Visual basic programming language has been chosen to be the tool for developing the algorithms to make full control of the database designed.
 The result was a complete library management system with state of the art in basic programming and user–friendly system with many unique and new features which can be represented by (1) flexibility, (2) reliability, (3) multi–language; (4) high security issues (5) attraction graphical user interfaces and other features.

Research on University Wisdom Library Based on RFID Technology

With the development of information technology, libraries urgently need a fast and convenient service mode. The application of RFID technology in Library and its standardization is one of the effective ways to optimize the library management service mode. Therefore, RFID technology in the library application and standardization is studied. First, the traditional library management model and modern library management model are compared. Then, the workflow of RFID technology in library management is introduced. The application goal of RFID library management intelligent system is discussed. Finally, the problems of using this technology are analyzed, and the corresponding solutions are put forward according to the existing problems.

Managing library innovation using the lean startup method

Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to argue the case that libraries should use the lean startup method for developing, managing and launching radically innovative services or products.Design/methodology/approach– Libraries need to innovate but do not have the management structure to handle the extreme uncertainty in implementing radical innovations. This paper examines the lean startup method for managing innovation, explores how it differs from traditional management tools, outlines the reasons for and barriers to innovation in libraries and highlights the new tools required to manage innovation. This paper also discusses the culture of innovation in libraries and how libraries innovate. The lean startup method is examined through the lens of a variety of innovation models.Findings– The lean startup method for managing radical innovations is shown to be a sound alternative to traditional library management methods.Originality/value– This paper is one of the few to examine a practical method for librarians to manage radical innovations in academic libraries.

Library Management Systems in Legal Libraries

Legal libraries, by their very nature, have highly specialised requirements when it comes to library automation. A traditional library management system, which will simply catalogue books and provide the means to issue them to borrowers for a defined period, will not provide the flexibility required by a modern legal information centre. Serials management, direct links to web resources and the selective dissemination of information are of far more importance to a legal library than whether a loan is overdue. Access to information is crucial – the library catalogue needs to be available to researchers wherever they are, whether sitting at their desks or accessing the data via the internet.
