The aim of this article is to study the performing schools and traditions and to generalize the achievements of choral performance, to understand the artistic positions of the homeland choral school.Research methodology. An analysis of the creative activity of prominent choirmaster musicians was carried out using the “school” category. The approach to the issue of the performing school is culturally oriented. It is important to understand the phenomenon of the school as a cultural tradition, through which the generalization and imitation of the performing experience is carried out.Results. The 20th century is marked by attempts to understand the meaning of sound as an artistic phenomenon and reproduce it in the performing process. The ethnographic culturological direction of the study of sound is developing. Researchers understand sound as a cultural phenomenon; the new attitude of composers and musicians towards sound as an artistic dimension of human being is becoming increasingly apparent. In the performance process, human values are manifested through the sound ideal of national culture. It acts as a sensual-intonational image-representation, the essence of which is the moral and ethical integrity of the performer’s personality as a culture-bearer of spiritual tradition. It was P. Muravskyi who was the bearer. In his intonation, the tuning of the chorus, the personality model of the worldview, embodied through the sound of the worldview of a person who is the bearer of his ethnic culture, was reflected.The analysis of the creative activity of P. Muravskyi and Y. Kulyk according to the system of universal principles, namely: the presence of the personality of a leader; historical-geographical and time factor; state of scientific evidence; level of performance; continuity; the influence vector of the performing school as a “kind of tradition” (according to Zh. Dedusenko) proves the existence of the school as an artistic phenomenon in the homeland choral culture of the 20th century.Novelty. The achievements of choral performance are generalized; the artistic positions of the national choral school are comprehended with the help of the system of universal principles of “school” as a scientific category.The practical significance. The results of the study can be used to study the features of choral performance in other regions of Ukraine of the 20th century, as well as choral performance of European countries.
