The Transformation of Teacher s Role and the Cultivation of Students Innovative Ability in English Education

With the deepening of education reform, training high-quality talents with innovative spirit and practical ability has become an important goal of English education. Facing the needs and challenges of The Times, English teachers need to change the traditional teaching concept, innovate the teaching mode, attach importance to the dominant position of students, and stimulate the innovative potential of students. This paper discusses the significance of the change of teacher s role in English education in cultivating students innovative ability, and puts forward corresponding teaching strategies to provide references for English education reform.

The article examines in retrospect the essential content of the concept of “legal awareness”. The content of legal awareness highlights and reveals its key aspects. As a result of the analysis of the modern concept, it is proposed to call it “traditional”. The types of legal awareness are highlighted, their content is disclosed, and the historical “bonds” uniting the types into a single legal category are highlighted. In the context of a Special military operation, the objective necessity of transforming the traditional concept of legal awareness by including a sovereign-state aspect in its content is argued. The author’s definition of the “sovereign-state” legal consciousness is formulated.

Holacracy: redefining organizational ontology and epistemology

Purpose This paper aims to examine Holacracy as a self-management system and its implications for organizational theory. By exploring its distinctive ontology and epistemology, the paper explains how Holacracy redefines organizational structures and contributes to organizational change. Design/methodology/approach Adopting a conceptual approach, this essay draws upon existing literature to explore Holacracy’s departure from conventional organizational theories. Findings The paper discusses how Holacracy challenges traditional organizational concepts, defining its holarchical approach, and emphasizing dynamic hierarchies and role-based organization. It also highlights Holacracy’s focus on emergent intelligence, continuous feedback loops and structured knowledge acquisition through roles and organization spaces. By examining its unique ontology and epistemology, the paper offers insights into how Holacracy aligns with an emergent paradigm known as integral, metamodern or teal. Research limitations/implications Further empirical research is needed to assess its practical implementation and long-term effects on organizational performance and employee well-being. Future studies could also explore challenges and limitations associated with adopting Holacracy in different organizational contexts. Practical implications Organizations considering alternative ways of working should examine Holacracy. Implementing Holacracy requires understanding its principles and may involve significant changes, with potential benefits such as increased agility and employee engagement. Social implications Holacracy’s departure from traditional structures and approach to power can have broader social implications and contribute to more democratic and participatory cultures. Originality/value This paper is a pioneering contribution to the under-researched domain of alternative organizational models. It sheds light on the originality and distinctiveness of Holacracy, highlighting its unique approach to hierarchy, role-based organization and consciousness within organizations.

Episodic Memory and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Non-human Animals: A Methodological Proposal

The traditional conception of episodic memory, as a capacity that enables the conscious and personal re-experience of a past event, has led to methodological difficulties in attributing it to non-linguistic beings. The present work proposes to study the attribution of this capacity in non-human animals based on animal models of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). For this purpose, evidence is presented suggesting that flashbacks, a characteristic symptom of PTSD, are a product of the episodic memory system. If that is true, then the ability to remember episodes is required to develop PTSD and having PTSD would be a compelling reason for attributing episodic memories. In this way, the present work opens a new field of research on the problem of episodic memory attribution in animals.

Control and Resistance in Automated Shops: Retail Transparency, Deep Learning, and Digital Refusal

AbstractThrough the enrolment of big data, deep learning, sensor fusion, and computer vision technologies, Amazon Go and similar shops pursue the automated management of retail subjects, goods, and transactions. Tracing the logics of automated shop technology, the paper makes two contributions. First, it proposes a theory of “retail transparency” to attend to how automated shops reimagine space as a series of pockets of excess (actions that escape circuits of capitalist valuation) to be countered through acts of making‐transparent (datafication for integration into digital systems of control). Retail transparency is underpinned by interventions aimed at perceiving, incorporating, and productivising excess. Second, we argue that logics of deep learning raise important challenges to traditional conceptions of resistance in digital geographies, as these tend to rely on a celebration or cultivation of excess. Instead, we offer a speculative reflection outlining a politics of “circuit‐breaking” which refuses to engage algorithmic logics on their own terms.

Evil and Meaning in Life

In this paper I offer an argument for the thesis that evil activity, unlike its less extremely immoral counterparts, cannot endow the agent’s life with any measure of meaning. I first review two other important arguments for this thesis that can be drawn from the recent literature. I then articulate my own argument and show how it avoids the problems of these others. According to my argument, meaning-endowing activity cannot be of the worst sort, along any of the basic ways in which we evaluate activity, but evil activity is of the worst sort along one of these ways, namely, the moral one. Because it is grounded in a traditional concept of meaning for which there is much to be said, I note, my argument should hold broad appeal. I also note that my argument is consistent with various contemporary conceptions of evil activity.

The article examines the metaphysical provisions of Francis Bacon’s philosophical doctrine, which the thinker identified as the initial and intrinsic conditions of scientific knowledge. The author demonstrates that the new scientific paradigm formulated by the English philosopher is based on the traditional Western metaphysical concepts of “first cause” and “God”. It is shown that, despite Bacon’s significant focus on developing a new method for scientific inquiry, metaphysics is an essential aspect of his doctrine and serves as a necessary pre-requisite for scientific activity. The fact of the gradual displacement of this component of the thinker’s views from subsequent scientific reflection is also considered, using the example of the teachings of L. Feuerbach, O. Comte, K. Marx, E. Husserl, K. Jaspers, and J. Habermas. Conclusion dwells upon the fact that neglecting the content of classical metaphysics, as considered by F. Bacon, has a destructive impact on modern science.

Investigation of Deficits in Auditory Emotional Content Recognition by Adult Cochlear Implant Users through the Study of Electroencephalographic Gamma and Alpha Asymmetry and Alexithymia Assessment.

Given the importance of emotion recognition for communication purposes, and the impairment for such skill in CI users despite impressive language performances, the aim of the present study was to investigate the neural correlates of emotion recognition skills, apart from language, in adult unilateral CI (UCI) users during a music in noise (happy/sad) recognition task. Furthermore, asymmetry was investigated through electroencephalographic (EEG) rhythm, given the traditional concept of hemispheric lateralization for emotional processing, and the intrinsic asymmetry due to the clinical UCI condition. Twenty adult UCI users and eight normal hearing (NH) controls were recruited. EEG gamma and alpha band power was assessed as there is evidence of a relationship between gamma and emotional response and between alpha asymmetry and tendency to approach or withdraw from stimuli. The TAS-20 questionnaire (alexithymia) was completed by the participants. The results showed no effect of background noise, while supporting that gamma activity related to emotion processing shows alterations in the UCI group compared to the NH group, and that these alterations are also modulated by the etiology of deafness. In particular, relative higher gamma activity in the CI side corresponds to positive processes, correlated with higher emotion recognition abilities, whereas gamma activity in the non-CI side may be related to positive processes inversely correlated with alexithymia and also inversely correlated with age; a correlation between TAS-20 scores and age was found only in the NH group. EEG gamma activity appears to be fundamental to the processing of the emotional aspect of music and also to the psychocognitive emotion-related component in adults with CI.

Power system planning in the energy transition era: the case of Vietnam's power development plan 8

ABSTRACT This review examines Vietnam's eighth Power Development Plan (PDP8), analyzing how it reveals tensions between traditional energy planning concepts and emerging realities. PDP8 aimed to balance renewable energy and natural gas priorities amidst Vietnam's rapidly changing energy landscape. The planning process struggled to incorporate uncertainties like technology cost declines and global energy crises. Although following a conventional optimization approach, PDP8 underwent repeated delays and pivots, pointing to misalignment between rational planning ideals and implementation constraints. The case study highlights the limitations of ‘plan to build’ methods focused on rigid engineering blueprints. Instead, Vietnam's energy transition requires strategic approaches that embrace flexibility and scenario analysis. Based on years of participative observation, two interview surveys, and extensive corpus analysis, the review traces PDP8's evolution towards more open-ended strategies. While still detailing infrastructure projects, PDP8 defines adaptive implementation mechanisms and conditional goals dependent on external finance. This shift from project lists to navigational thinking illustrates the need for energy planning to incorporate uncertainty and maintain the capacity to adjust. PDP8 represents a transitional compromise between traditional ten-year planning and emerging ‘plan to drive’ concepts focused on navigating change with annual updates to the Plan.

Managing uncertainty in product and process design for the circular factory

Abstract In the circular factory, uncertain attributes of object instances and process steps are found at diverse occasions. Even if uncertainty can also be found to some extent in linear production, the high variation of product attributes of used objects causes the process steps in the circular factory to generate a much higher variability of the properties of the objects handled in circular processes. In consequence, a methodology is needed to model, handle and manage uncertainties at all relevant situations within the circular factory. In contrast to linear production, the uncertainty of attributes cannot be extended to an object class (with the same production history), but must be assigned to each object instance (with its own history) individually. In this contribution, the basic concepts for managing uncertainty in the circular factory are introduced. As a common basis, probabilities are used to express uncertainty, thus being compatible with the traditional and proven concepts of measurement science and stochastics. To describe the individual information state of object instances, it is complemented with a joint probability distribution describing all relevant object attributes. Some examples for processes within the circular factory demonstrate how uncertainty is considered to manage the uncertainty related challenges of used objects.

“Alex, DO NOT BACKPEDAL ON SANDY HOOK!”: Reactionary Fandom, Cancel Culture, and the Possibility of ‘Audience Capture’ on YouTube

“Cancel culture” has gained tremendous attention in contemporary political discourse. On platforms like YouTube, reactionary ideological entrepreneurs often employ what Ng terms second-order discourses on cancel culture, that is, portraying call-out practices such as shaming public figures as left-wing censorship efforts stifling free speech. This article argues that such call-out practices, generally ascribed to progressive communities, also occur internally within reactionary communities where fans hold ideological entrepreneurs accountable for adhering to potentially extreme political canons. Adopting a fan studies perspective, this exploratory investigation used “close” and “distant” readings on 1.8 million comments from the now-canceled “The Alex Jones Channel” on YouTube (2017–2018). Focusing on Jones’ recantation of the “Sandy Hook Hoax,” the authors show that, akin to traditional fandom conceptions, radical audiences engaged in call-out practices demanding “character” and “narrative” fidelity. This contribution, theorized as “audience capture,” emphasizes the bottom-up efforts of audiences to maintain the radical views of ideological entrepreneurs.

By focusing on the principles advocated by these influential figures—such as the fusion of religious and general knowledge, character development, and the preservation of Islamic scholarly traditions—the study highlights their relevance and application in contemporary settings. The findings suggest that combining these principles with modern educational demands can provide a balanced framework that supports both technological proficiency and ethical grounding. This approach not only prepares students for the digital age but also ensures they remain connected to their cultural and spiritual heritage.

Research on Multidimensional Interactive Teaching Mode of Ideological and Political Theory Course for Physical Education Majors in the University Based on Visual Communication Technology

In traditional teaching concepts, teachers are regarded as the owners, transmitters and authorities of knowledge. With the arrival of the information age, the channels for students of sports major to know more about information have increased, and the concept of equality based on people in modern education has opened up a new situation of equal dialogue and exchange. The use of visual communication technology in multi-dimensional interactive teaching fully mobilizes students of sports major' enthusiasm, fun, intuitiveness and thinking, creating a passionate classroom teaching atmosphere.

Incorporation mechanism of traditional Chinese garden elements in modern urban landscape design: an exploratory analysis based on grounded theory

ABSTRACT Following China’s reform and opening up in 1978, the image of European and American city construction has shaped China’s modern urban environment, but the creation of Chinese cities’ original intrinsic cultural landscape has been neglected. This leads to a break in the inheritance of garden culture in contemporary public and open urban landscape design. This study investigates the process of integrating traditional Chinese gardens into contemporary landscapes using grounded theory. In this study, In Vivo Coding is utilized to conduct a thorough analysis of textual materials through a three-step process: Open Coding, Axial Coding, and Selective Coding saturation test. The identified data are meticulously coded and summarized, culminating in the construction of a theoretical model. The study revealed that the incorporation of traditional Chinese garden elements in contemporary urban landscape design involves several key aspects: firstly, employing the traditional layout and spatial form of the entire design site; secondly, integrating modern public landscape design scenes with traditional garden design concepts to evoke a distinct Chinese ambiance; furthermore, utilizing both modern technology and materials alongside traditional techniques to create multi-dimensional elements within the site. The present study systematically synthesizes and examines the incorporation of traditional Chinese garden elements in contemporary urban design across six dimensions. This research offers a theoretical framework for the preservation of traditional garden culture and its integration into modern landscape, as well as furnishing mechanisms and methodologies for integrating traditional culture into contemporary landscape design practice. This research provides a valuable reference for preserving and practically implementing traditional garden elements in contemporary urban landscapes.

“Fiddler on the Roof ” as a Tool for Teaching About How Religions Change Through Time

ABSTRACTThis article reflects on the difficulty that many students have in appreciating that religions change over time. It describes an assignment that can be used to teach this important religious literacy skill. The assignment focuses on changing norms on courtship, marriage, and family formation in Jewish communities at two different times and two different places. Students reflect on norms in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia at the turn‐of‐the century using the film version of the musical Fiddler on the Roof. They then view a documentary about the making and reception of the musical that centers the social movements of 1960s America, and they also read secondary literature on changing marriage norms in turn‐of‐the century Jewish communities in Eastern Europe and in 20th century Jewish communities in America. The assignment turns on concepts of tradition and innovation, showing how often innovation plays a role in things deemed “traditional”.

Pseudo-Jahn-Teller Effect Breaks the pH Dependence in Two-Electron Oxygen Electroreduction.

The hydrogenation of small molecules (like O2 and CO2) often exhibits strong activity dependence on pHs because of discrepant proton donor environments. However, some catalysts can show seldom dependence on two-electron oxygen electroreduction, a sustainable route of O2 hydrogenation to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). In this work, a pH-resistant oxygen electroreduction system arising from the pseudo-Jahn-Teller effect is demonstrated. Thorough operando Raman spectra, local environment analyses and density function theory simulations, the lattice distortion of TiOxFy that introduces the pseudo-Jahn-Teller effect contributing to regulating local pHs at electrode-electrolyte interfaces and the absorption/desorption of key *OOH intermediate is revealed. Consequently, as comparison to 78.6% activity attenuation for common catalyst, the TiOxFy displays minor activity decay (3.2%) in the pH range of 1-13 with remarkable Faradaic efficiencies (93.4-96.4%) and H2O2 yield rates (595-614mgcm-2h-1) in the current densities of 100-1000mAcm-2. Further techno-economics analyses display the H2O2 production cost dependent on pHs, giving the lowest H2O2 price of $0.37kg-1. The present finding is expected to provide an additional dimension to pseudo-Jahn-Teller effect that leverages systems beyond traditional conception.

Recent Developments and Challenges in the Application of Fungal Laccase for the Biodegradation of Textile Dye Pollutants

Abstract: According to the European Environment Agency, the textile industry is responsible for 20% of global water pollution due to dyeing and finishing products, thus facing severe environmental challenges. It is essential to design more biocompatible and sustainable treatment processes capable of removing dyes from industrial wastewater to fight this environmental hazard. Chemical industries must change traditional chemical-based concepts to more environmentally friendly and greener processes to remove pollutants, including dyes. Enzymatic bioremediation is a smart tool and a promising alternative for environmental pollutant degradation. The use of enzymes in dye decolourization makes the process a green and clean alternative to conventional chemical treatments. Moreover, enzymemediated biocatalysis decreases the formation of toxic by-products compared to chemical reactions. The most used enzyme for the decolourization of dyes is laccase. Laccase is a multicopper oxidase found in diverse organisms such as fungi. It promotes the oxidation of phenolic compounds and has a wide range of substrate specificity, making it a promising enzyme for removing different dyes used by the textile industry, including recalcitrant aromatic dyes. The present article gives a comprehensive revision of textile dye decolourization, its types, recent developments in laccase-mediated dye bioremediation technologies, the mechanism of biocatalysis, and their limitations and challenges. Emphasis on the chemical pathways of laccase reaction mechanisms for dye bioremediation processes is also provided. In addition, a brief overview of textile industries and the respective traditional treatment processes for textile wastewater is presented.

Healthy sexuality—not sexual health: for the sexual subject

The aim of this paper is to defend the emerging conceptualization of healthy sexuality (Bianchi in Figurations of Human Subjectivity: A Contribution to Second-Order Psychology. Springer, Berlin, 2020) against the traditional authoritative concept of sexual health as defined by the WHO. Becoming a sexual subject means following a sexual trajectory with episodes of one’s own bodily experiences, genital satisfaction, intimate attachment, acceptance of sexual identity, sexual pleasure, mutual sexual satisfaction and planned parenthood. In each of these episodes, the individual may experience feelings of pressure, fear, shame, pain and/or joy and pleasure. The extent to which the subject has a healthy sexuality depends on whether these feelings/emotions facilitate or inhibit healthy sexuality. The concept of healthy sexuality runs counter not only to quantitative statistical demographic measures of sexual health, but also to the existing arsenal of sexology questionnaires. Qualitative empirical research is being conducted into the facilitators and inhibitors of a healthy sexuality (in the first author’s PhD research).

In this paper, I intend to demonstrate that there is a causal and necessary relationship between ethical behavior and the individual and collective efficiency of human beings. To do this, I will first develop the argument that ethical behavior is part of human nature and not merely a social construct. Then, I will establish its relationship with the form of [1]social organization that ensures efficiency in achieving collective goals. This ethics-efficiency relationship breaks with the traditional concept of effective leadership, where individual interests and authoritarian behavior prevail, and promises to become the new paradigm of successful social organizations, be they businesses, NGOs, educational institutions, sports teams, etc.

From Hands to Words-Physiotherapists Experience of Delivering Online Exercise and Education for Individuals With Knee Osteoarthritis.

Little is known about delivering telehealth from a healthcare provider's perspective. To investigate physiotherapists' (PTs) experiences in delivering live online exercise and education for people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). This was a qualitative individual interview study with a thematic analysis approach. The interviewees were six PTs delivering 8 weeks of supervised online exercise and education for people with knee OA in secondary public care in Denmark. The three main themes were (1) From hands to words-on the transition from on-site to on-line physiotherapy, (2) Online selection-on the perceived barriers to managing a telehealth service and (3) Therapeutic relation under pressure-on the contextual difficulties in building relationships and alliances in online classes. The PTs in this study seemed to gradually come to terms with delivering first-line OA care online, appreciating advantages and new possibilities. PTs' initial apprehension towards this new form of physiotherapy service may be rooted in the traditional conception of physiotherapy as a predominantly manual profession but also in a lack of formal training in physiotherapy telehealth services. This study underlines the growing need for better and more formalised training in physiotherapy telehealth services to meet growing demands.
