BENEFITS OF SOCIAL BUSINESS IN A MODERN SOCIETY

Modern society still interprets social business as a socially responsible company that receives public incentive to employ people with disabilities. However, this article is intended to emphasize that social business has a greater advantage over traditional business organizations as it is an opportunity to solve social problems that are relevant to a society in an entrepreneurial way and to demonstrate the benefits to a society.

"Analyzing Romanian Sports Organizations Management Using Econometric Frontier "

Sport is an institution interesting to study, being similar, but also different from traditional business organizations. Significant segments of sport have copied practices and the values of the business world, and as a result have been designed strategic plans, and players and administrators have become paid employees. The purposes of this paper are to highlight main models used in sports performance management as well as to test the relation between football organizations and economic growth for Romania for period 1992-2011. The results from the study performed suggest there is a non-linear relation between football organizations and economic growth that record a quadratic U-shape and a minimum level of GDPPC around 2457.5 RON.

The adoption of ICT in project‐based and traditional organizations

Purpose – This research aims to investigate the adoption of electronic communication tools and seeks to shed more light on their diffusion process, a challenging task for project‐based (PBO) and traditional business organizations (TBO).Design/methodology/approach – The data for the study were collected through three surveys, one total population survey in the Finnish and Swedish house building industries representing traditional business organizations, together with a focused and a total population survey in project‐based organizations.Findings – The main findings from the survey indicate a difference in attitude between the employees of TBOs and PBOs. Moreover, electronic document management and scheduling were more prominent among PBOs, because these firms exhibit more inter‐organizational communication.Research limitations/implications – The findings are limited to project‐based and traditional business organizations. The transformation of traditional Chinese guilds in modern times

As traditional business organizations that played an important role in China’s economy, guilds have faced unprecedented challenges in modern times due to the invasion of Western capitalism and the changes of the traditional Chinese economic structure. It was difficult to maintain the old guild rules, such as limitations on opening new workshops, recruiting new apprentices, etc. Thus, some guilds that insisted on maintaining the old rules fell into decline, while other guilds, either willingly or unwillingly, made reforms in their organization and structural function to adjust themselves to the new situations. The latter gradually transformed into the modern trade association. The different fates of traditional guilds proved that guilds had to reform properly and adapt themselves to new economic and social environments in order to survive in modern times.

USING SUPER-EFFICIENCY DEA TO EVALUATE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF E-BUSINESS INITIATIVE IN THE RETAIL INDUSTRY

Electronic Business (EB) on the Internet is an attractive technology for traditional business organizations to improve their financial performance. The Web-based economic model is supposedly more efficient at the transaction cost level. It also provides cost-effective marketing, global market access, and a disintermediation of costly distribution channels. The current paper uses super-efficiency data envelopment analysis (DEA) model to evaluate the financial performance of e-business initiatives in the retail industry. Because of the possible infeasibility of the super-efficiency DEA model, the use of super-efficiency DEA model has been restricted. This paper demonstrates that if super-efficiency is interpreted as input saving or output surplus achieved by a specific efficient DMU, infeasibility does not necessary indicate the best performance. A new approach is applied to correctly characterize and rank the performance of a set of EB companies and non-EB companies in the retail industry. This analysis indicates that the EB companies perform better in some areas than their non-EB counterpart.

Women Directors: Selection, Acceptance and Benefits of Board Membership

This study examined views of women directors on criteria for their being selected, reasons for serving and benefits derived from their directorships. Data were collected from 280 women serving on Canadian corporate boards of directors using anonymous questionnaires. A successful career in traditional business organizations emerged as the major selection criteria. Personal contacts and visibility to male board members was essential. Company/industry interest and broadening skills and knowledge motivated women’s board service. Finally women board members reported considerable benefits from serving. Efforts to broaden the selection and nomination process to include more qualified women may benefit women, men and organizations.
