Objective To observe the influence of two different ways of nasal feeding on the comfort level of the aged patients complicated with coronary heart disease (CHD) and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS).Methods Thirty aged patients with CHD and MODS were enrolled into the study with self-contrast experiment made in each patient. Continuous injection was applied for 20 days, followed by intermittent injection for another 20 days. The comfort changes of two different nasal feedings for each patient were recorded (including heart rate, respiration, nausea and vomiting after nasal feeding, pneumonia, abdominal distention, angina pectoris, blood glucose and the rate of alimentary tract hemorrhage). The data collected from the experiment was statistically analyzed. Results Compared with the intermittent injection, the continuous injection could obviously alleviate alimentary tract symptoms such as upper gastrointestinal tract hemorrhage, pneumonia, gastric retention, abdominal distention, nausea and vomiting. Conclusions The continuous injection of nutrient solution can effectively improve the comfort level of the aged patients with CHD and MODS.
