Therefore, it is necessary to accelerate the development in this case of the construction of a feedmill tower with an alternative to the addition of overtime work in 3 ways, namely the addition of 1 hour overtime, 2 hours overtime, and 3 hours overtime. The data used in the analysis of the feed mill development project data with the normal time of the project for 360 days with a normal cost of US$ 5,149,297.20. From the results of the analysis of cost optimization due to the addition of overtime hours to accelerate the implementation, the optimum time to accelerate project completion is added 1 hour of overtime. Crash cost of required US$ 5.178.658,-. The time reduction to complete the project is 330 days. The additional cost is US$ 29.360, and the cost slope is US$ 26.913.

Fragility Analysis of Power Transmission Tower Subjected to Wind–Sand Loads

With the increasing construction of power transmission towers in desert regions for the transportation of wind or solar energy, structural safety under wind and sand loads has become critical. Current design codes primarily account for wind loads on these towers, overlooking the effects of sand impact. This study presents a new model to simulate sand–steel interactions and evaluates the fragility of transmission towers under both wind-only and combined wind–sand loads. The impact model is grounded in Hertz contact theory, with equations of motion derived for the interaction between wind-driven sand particles and structural members, solved via the central difference method. A parametric study investigates the effects of wind speed and sand particle mass: (1) impact forces and maximum deformations increase with wind speed, with impact duration initially decreasing up to 20 m/s and then gradually increasing; (2) an increase in sand particle mass leads to greater impact deformation, force, and duration. Fragility analysis, using incremental dynamic analysis, reveals that sand particles significantly amplify the tower’s response at high wind speeds and increase failure probability across all wind attack angles. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating sand-impact effects in the design and assessment of power transmission towers in desert environments to ensure structural safety and reliable operation of critical energy infrastructure.

The Construction of Qixiu Tower in Leizhou in Ming Dynasty and its Integration with Traditional Culture

Kaiyuan Temple, which was first built in Leizhou, went through thousands of years, developed to the Ming Dynasty, and left only one stupa. At the beginning of the tower construction, it was based on the local geomantic omen, hoping that the imperial examination would be prosperous; The construction process was widely participated and actively assisted by officials, gentry, scholars and people; Multiple names coexisted, all loud and clear, all with good omen; The construction of the tower greatly promoted the prosperity of the local imperial examination, the reform of the scenery, the political clarity and the improvement of the atmosphere. Objective : The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to foster local food on Jeju Island in response to increasing interest and comsumption of healty life after COVID-19. In addition, this study aimed to supplement the lack of research, which focused on Jeju Island and consumer perspectives, and provide strategic implications. Methods : For selection attributions, this study targeted consumers used local food restaurants on Jeju Island. In selection attributes which fits more with Jeju Island, this study conducted an in-depth interview with 3 experts. This study also used a total of 185(91%) copies for statistical analysis to conduct IPA analysis. Results : As a results of 31 selection attribute items, most of the items were distributes in the first and third quadrant. In addition, the price of the menu and convenience of the parking lot were placed in the second quadrant. Implications : This study holds academic value for deriving selection attributes that reflect regional characteristics through experts related to Jeju local food. “Food price” is expected to require future research and development to preserve local specialties and “convenience of parking facilities” is also expected to require the construction of additional parking towers and public parking lots.

This study suggests a pioneering conservation framework that significantly enhances the preservation, renovation, and restoration of heritage architecture through the integration of contemporary digital technologies. Focusing on the endangered drum towers of the Dong ethnic group in Southwestern China, the research employs a meticulous data collection process that combines manual measurements with precise 2D imaging and oblique unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photography, enabling comprehensive documentation of tower interiors and exteriors. Collaboration with local experts in drum tower construction not only enriches the data gathered but also provides profound insights into the architectural nuances of these structures. An accurate building information modeling (BIM) simulation illuminates the internal engineering details, deepening the understanding of their complex design. Furthermore, UAV-obtained point cloud data facilitate a 3D reconstruction of the tower’s exterior. This innovative approach to heritage preservation not only advances the documentation and comprehension of heritage structures but also presents a scalable, replicable model for cultural conservation globally, paving the way for future research in the field.

Study of the stress-strain state of the loess soil base of an eccentrically loaded tower foundations, with taking into account the possible water saturation of the soil

This article provides the design of the tower shallow foundations using numerical simulation in the "Midas GTS NX" software. The foundations are four separate structures that perceive the bearing reactions from the tower supports. Depending on the wind load direction, the support reactions change both quantitatively and qualitatively. So, one foundation can accept a compressive force, the other one can accept a pull-out force. In this study, two variants of wind loading are considered: the wind load acts on the tower face or on the tower edge. The geological conditions of the research site are taken as simplified. The soil base consists of one engineering-geological element, which is a loess soil. Numerical simulation of the soil massif was implemented by using volumetric finite elements. An elastic-plastic deformation law and a Mohr–Coulomb failure criterion were applied for these finite elements. The design provided for the calculation of the tower foundation on a natural basis and with the arrangement of a compacted sub-base. Research was carried out for the foundations of the tower construction in four stages: 1) soil base in its natural state; 2) arranged compacted sub-base; 3) natural basis with local water saturation of the soil; 4) compacted sub-base with local water saturation of the soil massif. Simulation of the arrangement of the compacted sub-base occurs by replacing the stiffness of the finite element at a certain stage of the calculation. The soil water saturation simulation algorithm is performed in a similar way - there is a change in the physical and mechanical characteristics of certain finite elements. The localization of saturation zones was chosen from the conditions of the most unfavorable combinations of loads and vertical movements of the foundations. An analysis of the stress-strain state of the soil base of foundations under the tower on a natural base and with the arrangement of a compacted sub-base was performed. The scheme of the applied load on the foundation and the possible local water saturation of the loess soil at the base of the foundations were taken into account

NAKAGIN RESIDENTIAL TOWER IN TOKYO, JAPAN: A FUTURISTIC ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT OF THE MID-20TH CENTURY AND REALITY

The work is devoted to a retrospective analysis of the historical and social conditions of the construction, existence and dismantling of the futuristic Nakagin capsule tower. The Nakagin Capsule Tower was built in 1970-1972 in central Tokyo by architect Kisho Kurokawa and was similar to the modernist building of the Shizuoka Press Center by architect Kenzo Tange. Both buildings appeared as a practical illustration of the concept of architectural metabolism, that is, the possibility of giving architecture the ability of living organisms to grow and renew themselves, adapting to the external environment. Initially, the building was intended for a hotel, but finally it received a mixed function of temporary and permanent accommodation. The structure of the tower consisted of a stationary reinforced concrete vertical core, on which residential capsules were suspended with the possibility of replacement. However, in reality, the Nakagin tower was unable to adapt to changing external conditions. During 50 years of operation, the capsules were never replaced, as the owners could not replace them at once, and the individual replacement was technically difficult. This led to the complete deterioration of the Nakagin Tower and its dismantling in 2022. Attempts to reconstruct the object did not receive adequate attention and sufficient funding. During the dismantling of the building, the public association of Nakagin Capsule Tower Preservation and Restoration Project managed to remove 23 capsules for their further repair with the aim of turning them into separate art objects and exhibition pavilions. Thus, it can be stated that the futuristic idea of the Nakagin residential tower, which was far ahead of its time during construction, did not stand the test of reality. Despite this, this project in many ways laid the foundations of modern concepts of dynamic architecture.

Heavy Blimp-Based Simulation Research of Integral Tower Technology

The power industry is the primary energy through the power generation equipment into electricity, and then through the transmission, transformation and distribution system to supply users as energy as the industrial sector, for the industrial and national economy and other sectors to provide basic power, is the first sector of national economic development[1]. As an important link to ensure the normal operation of the power industry, the importance of the power transmission system is self-evident[2]. The transmission tower, as the cornerstone to ensure the normal operation of the transmission system, has a large construction workload and faces problems such as complex construction environment and construction safety risks. Therefore, how to ensure the safe construction of transmission line in complex terrain is of great significance to power system construction. At present, in the construction of transmission tower, the suspension pole group tower and the whole lifting tower are the two main tower construction methods widely used. However, the pylon group tower has a great safety risk[3-4]. The State Grid has been trying to optimise the suspension of the tower. Secondly, due to the inconvenience of transportation, it is difficult for heavy lifting equipment to reach the construction site, which makes it difficult to promote the whole tower scheme using heavy lifting equipment in the mountainous terrain. In addition, the current construction of the tower group lacks scientific calculation and analysis of the force and deformation of the tower and key construction components, and there are hidden dangers such as overload and excessive deformation. Therefore, a new type of tower formation is needed to avoid the risk of personnel working at high altitudes and problems such as the inability of large heavy equipment to reach the construction site in mountainous areas[5]. In this paper, simulation technology is studied against the background of integral tower technology based on airship.

Smart cost estimation: Empirical case for extra-high voltage transmission towers

Nowadays, electricity has become an integral part of human lives. Most of our daily appliances, tools, and personal belongings are inseparable from electricity. To ensure a proper electricity distribution with an efficient transfer capability, Extra-High Voltage (EHV) transmission towers are needed. To design such a structure, it is of utmost importance to account for the cost of said tower. However, the process to estimate the cost of EHV transmission towers is both time-consuming and strenuous on human labor since a lot of consideration have to be taken. To overcome this, an imperative requirement exists for a prompt, precise, and automated tool to replace the existing manual cost estimation method. This research endeavor aims to craft a tool using support vector regression (SVR) with the capacity to prognosticate construction expenses for projects involving EHV transmission towers. The exploration of pertinent literature has enabled us to amass historical data and delineate the attributes essential for estimating costs linked to EHV transmission tower construction. The investigation delves into a comprehensive dataset spanning the past decade in Taiwan. Within this timeframe, 317 EHV transmission towers were erected between 2009 and 2019. However, 79 of these instances are excluded due to incomplete information, thereby yielding 238 viable datasets (comprising 75 % of the overall total) to underpin the development of the SVR model. By configuring the parameters to C = 0.2 and γ = 0.1, followed by 5-fold cross-validation, the resultant SVR model attains a remarkable prediction accuracy of 97.91 %, on average. As a result, the proposed SVR-based model can effectively and accurately predict the cost of constructing an EHV transmission tower project and reduce the time spent on estimation, thus contributing to the enhancement of the resilience and robustness of the transmission network system.

This study was conducted at the Transportation and Informatics Service of Bungo Regency over a one-month period, specifically in February 2016. Its objective was to examine, describe, and analyze the implementation of telecommunications tower levies managed by the Bungo Regency Transportation Service. It also aimed to investigate the efforts made by the service to increase Regional Original Income through these levies and to identify and analyze the obstacles faced by the service in raising telecommunications tower levies in Bungo Regency to enhance Regional Original Income (PAD). Employing a descriptive method with a qualitative approach, the research sought to understand the issues occurring at a particular place and time. The findings of the study revealed that management, often referred to as administration, is a systematic process aimed at achieving goals through planning, organizing, activating, and supervising. The efforts undertaken by the Bungo Regency Transportation and Informatics Service included outreach activities, enhanced supervision, establishment of cellular zones, and improvement of facilities and infrastructure for levy payment. The underlying issues in formulating levy policies to regulate telecommunications towers in Bungo Regency included the proliferation of such towers potentially turning Bungo Regency into a tower city. Additionally, ensuring legal certainty for entrepreneurs was crucial, ensuring clarity for telecommunications tower owners regarding imposed levies. Non-compliant tower construction concerning spatial planning aspects further complicated the policy formulation, with the levy intended to contribute to increased regional income for Bungo Regency.

A Turn to Assets in Community-Based Computing Research: Tradeoffs, Deficits, and Neoliberalism in Technological Development

CSCW and HCI scholars are increasingly adopting asset-based approaches to community-based social computing research. Emerging from asset-based community development (ABCD), an approach to community and economic development research and practice that emerged in the 1990s, advocates for asset-based approaches argue that a "needs-based approach" to development is overly focused on community deficits, and in doing so portrays communities in a largely negative light. Using ABCD methods, social computing scholars work to aid communities in identifying, classifying, and deploying their unrealized assets through sociotechnical systems. But researchers deploying asset-based approaches in CSCW and HCI more broadly have yet to grapple with the origins of ABCD in neoliberal economic shifts of the 1980s and 1990s that perpetuated distrust in the state and sought to transfer development power to private, local actors. Drawing on a case study of controversy around the construction of a cell tower in a very remote and rural community in the Midwestern United States to examine the inherent tradoffs present in asset- and deficit-based research.

Applicability Comparison of GIS-Based RUSLE and SEMMA for Risk Assessment of Soil Erosion in Wildfire Watersheds

The second-largest wildfire in the history of South Korea occurred in 2022 due to strong winds and dry climates. Quantitative evaluation of soil erosion is necessary to prevent subsequent sediment disasters in the wildfire areas. The erosion rates in two watersheds affected by the wildfires were assessed using the revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE), a globally popular model, and the soil erosion model for mountain areas (SEMMA) developed in South Korea. The GIS-based models required the integration of maps of the erosivity factor, erodibility factor, length and slope factors, and cover and practice factors. The rainfall erosivity factor considering the 50-year and 80-year probability of rainfall increased from coastal to mountainous areas. For the LS factors, the traditional version (TV) was initially used, and the flow accumulation version (FAV) was additionally considered. The cover factor of the RUSLE and the vegetation index of the SEMMA were calculated using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) extracted from Sentinel-2 images acquired before and after the wildfire. After one year following the wildfire, the NDVI increased compared to during the year of the wildfire. Although the RUSLE considered a low value of the P factor (0.28) for post-fire watersheds, it overestimated the erosion rate by from 3 to 15 times compared to the SEMMA. The erosion risk with the SEMMA simulation decreased with the elapsed time via the vegetation recovery and stabilization of topsoil. While the FAV of RUSLE oversimulated by 1.65~2.31 times compared to the TV, the FAV of SEMMA only increased by 1.03~1.19 times compared to the TV. The heavy rainfall of the 50-year probability due to Typhoon Khanun in 2023 generated rill and gully erosions, landslides, and sediment damage in the post-fire watershed on forest roads for transmission tower construction or logging. Both the RUSLE and SEMMA for the TV and FAV predicted high erosion risks for disturbed hillslopes; however, their accuracy varied in terms of the intensity and extent. According to a comparative analysis of the simulation results of the two models and the actual erosion situations caused by heavy rain, the FAV of SEMMA was found to simulate spatial heterogeneity and a reasonable erosion rate.

Wildfire risk assessment and mapping – an approach for Natura 2000 forest sites

Over the last ten years, Bulgaria's forest areas have been under almost year-round fire activity, severely impacting the Natura 2000 sites: Managing forests and maintaining traditional links between people and nature in mountain sites is becoming increasingly challenging. However, the National Methodology for determining the risk of forest fires (proposed in 2016) is applicable only at the regional administrative level (NUTS 3). This study is motivated by the actual need for an approach and a toolbox that can accurately assess the risk of wildfires, considering the unique characteristics of each location. An object-oriented vulnerability analysis is necessary to ensure that all parties involved in wildfire risk management can respond effectively. The main objective of this study is to suggest a flexible and scalable approach for spatial assessment and mapping of wildfire risk in geographic units relevant to natural heritage maintenance and resource management. A single register of potential fire risk factors is proposed, integrating 29 indicators into five thematic groups reflecting up-to-date data on hazards, vulnerability, and emergency response capacity. The factors are assessed and overlayed to come out with an integrated evaluation of the fire risk within a forestry subdivision - the smallest unit of forest management and inventory. The evaluation process involved geospatial technologies for analyzing the data and mapping the results. The methodology is tested on two Natura 2000 sites - BG0000496 “Rilski Manastir” (includes UNESCO’ World Heritage Site and symbol of Bulgarian identity – Rila Monastery) and BG0001011 “Osogovska Planina”, for which a conservation concern has been identified under the influence of wildfire risk. It has been confirmed that risk maps have the potential to support response teams, as demonstrated during a fire event that occurred on October 30th, 2022. The results from the study were used to identify suitable locations for the construction of fire towers and a visitor information system at BG0000496 “Rilski Manastir”.

Community-Based Monitoring for Rapid Assessment of Nearshore Coral Reefs Amid Disturbances in Teahupo’o, Tahiti

Nearshore coral reefs at Teahupo’o, Tahiti, are currently threatened by destruction from proposed plans to build a new judging tower in the reef lagoon for the 2024 Olympic surfing event. Local community members were trained to utilize 3D photogrammetry techniques to create high-resolution habitat maps of three sites that will be impacted by dredging and tower construction. The resulting orthomosaics were analyzed to quantify and characterize the coral community structure at each study site. Species diversity, coral colony count, coral colony size, and percent cover of live coral and living benthos were extracted from all survey plots. The resulting data show these sites support healthy and diverse coral communities that contribute to the ecological function of the larger reef system at Teahupo’o. The Hawai’i State Division of Aquatic Resources Penalty Matrix was used to estimate the USD value of the live corals and algae identified among the study sites and the total area that will be impacted by the planned development project. This study highlights the utility of 3D photogrammetry for effective citizen science as well as the large economic and ecological impacts that may occur if this proposed construction occurs.

Construction of a Gothic Church Tower: A 3D Visualisation Based on Drawn Sources and Contemporary Artefacts

The construction of Gothic church towers with carved stone spires and often with significant height required the most advanced technology and financial support of their age, and the application of advanced machines was also inevitable for it. This article is an attempt to virtually reconstruct and visualise the process of a 15th-century tower construction, including the main auxiliary structures: scaffolding and machinery. A series of 3D models is created for that purpose, using the contemporary plans of the partly realised north tower of St. Stephen’s church in Vienna, the contemporary machine drawings of the Strasbourg-based master builder Hans Hammer, and contemporary and neo-Gothic drawings of scaffoldings together with survived exemplars as sources. An important question was whether medieval technical drawings contain enough data to model the structures or devices that they depict and if the construction process could be represented using them.

Research and Application of Key Technologies for Assembling Design and Construction of Reinforcement in Super High Concrete Bridge Tower

Concrete bridge towers are widely used in long-span bridges. Aiming at the reinforcement process which requires the largest labor force and has the highest safety risk during the construction of the super high concrete bridge tower. The key technology of assembling design and construction of super high concrete bridge tower reinforcement characterized by “industrialized production of mesh, rapid section forming and on-site assembling installation” is creatively proposed. In terms of design, the three-dimensional bridge tower reinforcement is discretized into planar or 3D mesh. In order to facilitate the reinforcement segment, a new flush lapping is used for the circumferential connection of stirrup, and the tapered sleeve splicing is used for the connection of the reinforcement parts between the segments, and the reliability of the connection is verified by experiments. In terms of construction, industrial assembly lines are used for the production of steel mesh and overall bending forming. The bridge tower reinforcement segments are assembled on the special jig, and finally installed on the tower by the tower crane. At present, this technology has been successfully applied to projects such as Lingdingyang Bridge, reducing labor intensity, improving construction efficiency by 30%, and ensuring project quality.

RULED BUT NOT FLAT SURFACES IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND ARCHITECTURAL BUILDINGS

This work is devoted to the analysis of features of linear surfaces of rotation and their application in various areas of human activity. The article carries out a geometric and practical study of the surfaces of a cone, a cylinder, and a single-cavity hyperboloid as representatives of linear surfaces of rotation. Their mathematical description is presented and geometric models are developed: visual image schemes in a rectangular coordinate system and two-picture complex drawings are created. Special attention is paid to the practical application of these surfaces in various fields, in particular in the fields of mechanical engineering and architecture. Due to its geometric shape, the conical surface of rotation is used when connecting parts, at the ends of shafts, in water fittings, etc. Objects of everyday life have the surface of a truncated cone: vases for flowers, buckets, funnels for pouring liquids, a lamp with a lampshade in the form of a cone, etc. In architecture, the conical surface has been used since ancient times as a roof for residential premises and ancient castles, for chimneys, lighthouse towers, etc. In Muslim cities, a cylindrical surface of rotation is used for the construction of minarets, which ends at the top with a conical roof, symbolizing the desire for heaven. The cylindrical surface was used for the construction of towers of ancient fortresses and modern buildings of various purposes. Products having the shape of a cylinder of rotation are widely used in engineering and military industry, medicine, computer graphics, etc. Numerous cooling towers, high-rise towers, etc., have the geometric shape of a single-cavity hyperboloid. In the article, the most characteristic vivid examples of the use of the surfaces of a cone, cylinder, and single-cavity hyperboloid are selected, their features are analyzed, and photographic images are presented.
