The tourism sector is one of the sectors that has a major contribution to the growth of a country that contributes to creating new jobs and increasing foreign exchange. The focus of tourism development today lies in sustainable tourism development initiatives, which seek to achieve a balance between industrial, social, and economic activities. CBT (Community Based Tourism) is a form of tourism that empowers communities to organize and manage tourism growth and benefit in terms of economic, social, and sustainable environmental development. This research aims to assess the sustainability of Pagerbatu Peak Tourism, Banjar City based on indicators in the ASEAN Community Based Tourism (CBT) Standard. The method used is qualitative descriptive by utilizing field observations and interviews in extracting information and data. The results show that most of the criteria still cannot be fulfilled comprehensively. The lack of fulfillment of CBT standards on Pagerbatu Peak Tourism is partly due to the operationalization period of tourism which is not so mature so that synergy between many parties is needed in the process of developing Pagerbatu Peak Tourism, Banjar City.

Digitalization, green transformation, and the high-quality development of Chinese tourism enterprises

Tourism enterprises, as an integral part of the service industry, are crucial for optimizing economic structures. This paper empirically tests the impact of digitalization and green transformation on the high-quality development of listed tourism companies in China's capital market. The results show that digitalization and greening significantly improve the high-quality development of tourism enterprises, with a notable synergistic effect between the two. Heterogeneity analysis indicates that the promotional effect of digitalization and green transformation on high-quality development is particularly evident in larger enterprises and those with lower financing constraints.

Promoting residents’ happiness through a human-centric approach to tourism city development

PurposeThe study aims to delve into the influence of tourism on the happiness of city residents, grounded in the overarching concept of livability. It posits that prioritizing residents’ happiness is crucial for effectively addressing cities’ challenges in balancing development and distinctiveness. The study pursues three primary objectives: first, establishing a potential correlation between city tourism and residents’ happiness; second, examining the contributing factors to this correlation and third, identifying potential mediators that influence the connection between tourism development and residents’ happiness.Design/methodology/approachUsing a quantitative single-case design and partial least square analysis, the study underscores the intricate nature of various tourism development components. It specifically explores the roles of cognitive flexibility and social comparison in shaping the relationship between city tourism and happiness.FindingsThe findings make a distinctive contribution by revealing that not all tourism domains contribute positively to happiness. Furthermore, it sheds light on how tourism development impacts the emotional and cognitive dimensions of happiness, emphasizing the adverse effects of inequality and feelings of insecurity.Research limitations/implicationsThe study acknowledges certain constraints, including its employment of a cross-sectional design, the issue of generalizability, potential sampling bias and the reliance on subjective measurements when evaluating constructs like happiness and satisfaction with life. Using self-reported data introduces susceptibility to social desirability bias and individual perceptual differences, potentially resulting in measurement inaccuracies. Nevertheless, despite these limitations, the study’s findings offer valuable insights that contribute to both theoretical advancement and the realm of urban management.Practical implicationsThe findings elucidated through the mediation analyses conducted for hypotheses three to seven shed light on the significant roles played by mental adaptation and social comparison mechanisms in shaping individuals’ happiness. These insights substantially enhance our understanding of this field. Particularly, the dimensions of social and environmental impact within tourism appear to counterbalance the positive effects stemming from the economic and cultural aspects. This suggests a scenario where an excessive focus on tourism development could potentially undermine the overall livability of the city. These outcomes further indicate the necessity for proactive interventions by destination managers. Their efforts should be directed toward enhancing the environmental and social domains, aiming to reinvigorate the sense of community among residents, which appears to be gradually waning.Social implicationsThe outcomes of this study emphasize the utmost significance of prioritizing residents’ happiness above mere considerations of economic growth when formulating efficacious strategies for tourism. By concentrating on the happiness of the local population, a harmonious resonance is established with Sustainable Development Goal 11, which advocates for the creation of habitable cities founded upon the principle that “a city that is not good for its citizens is not good for tourists.” This alignment underscores the interconnected nature of residents’ happiness and the sustainable development of tourism. Moreover, residents’ happiness plays a pivotal role in addressing the challenge that cities face in harmonizing growth and their uniqueness, ensuring competitiveness and sustainability.Originality/valueThe research underscores the need for a people-oriented perspective in urban planning and tourism development initiatives. The study identifies diverse factors impacting residents’ happiness in city tourism, highlighting the complex interplay of environmental, cultural and socioeconomic elements. It emphasizes income’s role but underscores nonmaterial factors and individual preferences. Overall, the study offers timely and valuable insights into the intricate connection between tourism development, residents’ happiness, living conditions and human perception, guiding urban planners and stakeholders.

Conflicting landscapes – integrating sustainable tourism in nature park developments

ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to analyse conflicting landscape associations linked to nature parks. Drawing from an R&D project in one of the largest former wetlands in Denmark, we examine how diversified landscape perceptions and conflicting landscape preferences result from and condition the re-enchantment of nature parks for tourism development. The case study relies on various procedures. First, a combination of local accounts and fieldwork observations of tourism and landscapes. Second, interviews with tourists and local stakeholders on processes of engagement and disengagement with conservation, restoration, and re-wilding processes. Third, collaborative mapping with local stakeholders and citizens and their imaginaries of local nature. By combining literature reviews with findings from the case study, we derive different social imaginaries among tourism entrepreneurs, property owners, farmers, industrial actors, local citizens, and NGOs. Six conflicting landscape imaginaries are identified that, to varying degrees, may apply to other nature parks. Each approach holds different human-nature relations and views on what needs to be sustained locally, and what landscapes need to be developed. We conclude that conflicting positions and preferences over landscapes (geo-positionalities) may hinder interventions for sustainable transition, and that mapping these landscape positionalities may be useful for deliberation in tourism development initiatives.

Multi-vector development of tourism enterprises

The article is devoted to the formation of approaches to the multi-vector development of tourism enterprises. The multi-vector development of tourism enterprises is one of the most complex systems that consider all key areas and types of activities, divisions, and spheres of functioning. The purpose of the work is to substantiate approaches to assessing the effectiveness of functioning and the main directions of strategic development of tourism enterprises at various levels. The authors identify organizational transformation models, risks of multi-vector development, features of the strategy, and communication of interaction with consumers of tourism services using qualitative methods of data analysis. The scenario approach to the development of enterprises within the framework of multi-vector development is a priority and can be implemented based on the introduction of innovative products by a tourism enterprise and provides for the renewal of technical and technological support, training, or recruitment of new personnel, the formation of a marketing policy for bringing tourism services to the market, informing consumers, creating or reorganizing service services. The authors establish that the proposed approaches to ensuring the multi-vector development of tourism enterprises allow for forming the basis for planning, organizing, controlling, regulating, and implementing high-quality multi-vector development of a company's activities.

How Digital Financial Inclusion Boosts Tourism: Evidence from Chinese Cities

It is crucial to explore the impact of digital financial inclusion on tourism for national economic development. This paper utilizes panel data from 256 prefecture-level cities in China between 2011 and 2019 to examine the influence of digital financial inclusion on tourism. The findings demonstrate that digital financial inclusion significantly contributes to the development of the tourism industry. Notably, its coverage breadth, depth of use, and level of digitalization also have positive effects. Mechanism analysis reveals that digital financial inclusion facilitates the growth of tourism by supporting the development of tourism enterprises and enhancing consumer spending. Heterogeneity analysis further reveals regional and urban disparities in the promotion of digital financial inclusion, with the effect being more pronounced in the eastern region and larger cities. In comparison to existing studies, this paper delves into the mechanisms through which digital financial inclusion impacts tourism, as well as investigates regional and city size discrepancies. Consequently, governments should strive to foster the development of digital financial inclusion to attract market players and promote the advancement of residents’ consumption, thereby bolstering tourism development.

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Research on Financial Risk Evaluation and Control of Tourism Enterprises Based on Improved GA Algorithm

With the change and complexity of the tourism market environment, the financial risks faced by tourism enterprises are increasingly diversified. Effectively evaluating and controlling these financial risks has become the key to the development of tourism enterprises. Therefore, this study builds an accurate and real-time enterprise financial risk assessment and control model with the help of genetic algorithm. The results show that compared with other models, the maximum error value of the research model is only 0.12, and the maximum mean square error is only 0.09. The high reliability of the model is verified by simulating the data of selected tourism enterprises. After increasing the number of samples, the accuracy of the model continues to improve, and the predicted financial indicators are more in line with the actual situation. The model achieves the best results in average fitness, and the required error value is reached within 10 iterations. In the goodness of fit comparison, the goodness of fit of the training set, the test set and the verification set of the model are all over 0.7. In the empirical analysis, the ACC of the research model reached 97.4%, the accuracy rate reached 97.1%, the F1 index of the research reached 98.6%, and the other three research models were all lower than 98%. The above shows that the research model has significant advantages and can effectively evaluate and control the financial risk of tourism enterprises.

Pressure, state and response: configurational analysis of organizational resilience in tourism businesses following the COVID-19 pandemic crisis

Organizational resilience is key for tourism companies in coping with crises; however, little is known about how tourism companies can become more resilient. Furthermore, much of the empirical evidence in the extant literature comes from developed countries. The study identifies key factors affecting organizational resilience based on a “resource–capacity-relationship” theoretical framework, incorporating the number of COVID-19 cases as an external factor in the stress-state-response (PSR) model, with the epidemic as pressure, corporate governance, and redundant resources as the enterprise state, and CSR performance as the response. The fsQCA method was used to analyse the interaction and joint effects among multisource influencing factors such as pressure, state and response. Based on an empirical analysis of 35 listed tourism companies in China from 2010 to 2020, the research found the following: (1) Four groupings of high organizational resilience: redundant resource deficit under epidemic pressure with high pay incentive compensation, low financial risk, and CSR driven under low epidemic pressure, resource deployment and CSR driven under low financial risk and CSR driven under low financial risk. Of these, CSR at the response level as a core condition is key to developing high organizational resilience. (2) Corporate governance capabilities play a high role in fostering organizational resilience under epidemic pressure and can compensate for organizational deficiencies in resources and relationships. (3) Under specific objective endowment conditions, unabsorbed redundant resources and absorbed redundant resources can substitute to some extent for deficiencies in capabilities and relationships. (4) The low organizational resilience configurations suggest that potentially redundant resources may be the key to low organizational resilience. CSR is not the ‘golden key’ to organizational resilience but is influenced by redundant resources. Furthermore, the key variables affecting organizational resilience were significant during the studied period. The research provides a theoretical reference and practical guidance for the sustainable development of tourism enterprises in the context of major public health crises.

Amazonas: Gaps in Tourism Entrepreneurship

Purpose: This research was carried out with the objective of identifying the gaps that exist for the development of tourism enterprises in Chachapoyas-Amazonas, Peru. Method: We worked with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental design. The population was integrated by 241 micro and small companies, better known as Mypes. These are characterized by offering services such as accommodation, food, and travel agencies. Results and conclusion: The survey was applied to a sample of 52 Mypes. As a main result, it was found that 44.2% of the internal factors represent a high level of difficulty. As a result, it is concluded that the gaps for these ventures in the province are wide, which prevents their successful development. Research implications: This study revealed that administrative management represents a 40.4% average level of difficulty. This is interpreted as the problem in the organization and acquisition of roles in a company or venture. Originality/value: Latin America also contributes to the Gross Domestic Product with 90% of entrepreneurial activity. Regarding the countries with the highest entrepreneurship record, the United States tops the list of the 10 registered as leaders.

With the rapid development of tourism and the Internet, the mode of "tourism" + "Internet" has attracted wide attention, among which the importance of tourism network word-of-mouth in the development of tourism enterprises has been increasingly recognized, which also prompts the academic circle to study this. Based on this, on the basis of previous online word-of-mouth literature, this paper explores the connotation and characteristics of online word-of-mouth in tourism, and puts forward strategies to improve online word-of-mouth in tourism, so as to promote the sustainable development of tourism enterprise.

Mechanisms, motives and incentives for providing strategic priorities for the development of tourist enterprises in the rural

The subject of the research is the theoretical and practical aspects of the functioning of tourist enterprises, including rural areas, the formation and use of their mechanisms, incentives and motives to ensure strategic development priorities and increase competitiveness in the future. The purpose of the work is to identify factors in the formation and use of mechanisms, incentives and motives for ensuring the strategic priorities of the development of tourism enterprises in the countryside, their components, effectiveness, and potential opportunities. The methodological basis of the article is general scientific and special methods of scientific knowledge: system-structural analysis and synthesis, problem-targeted approach, statistical-economic, historical, monographic. Results of the article. The article identifies competitive advantages, risks, bottlenecks, resources and opportunities as factors in the formation of mechanisms, incentives and motives for the development of tourist enterprises, including in the countryside. Their components and their role in ensuring the strategic priorities of tourist activity are defined. Grounded directions and sources of further improvement, primarily through consideration of environmental motives and incentives, application of mechanisms and tools of behavioral economics and finance, aesthetic components. Field of application of results. The results can be used by tourism enterprises, territorial communities, regional and state authorities, public organizations, individual entrepreneurs and activists, institutions of higher education, scientific institutions. Conclusions. When substantiating mechanisms, identifying motives and developing incentives for tourism activity for the future, psychological and behavioral factors that are difficult to systematize should be taken into account. It is about positive emotions, desires, ambitions, beliefs, preferences, behavioral finance, which can also be motives, incentives, and mechanisms to one degree or another at the same time. Yes, it can be hopes for the implementation of the family business so that it can be inherited and developed by future generations; gather a large family under one roof, etc. Finally, people like to be admired, praised, set as an example, shown gratitude, etc.

Nature and Impacts of Tourism Development Facilities and Activities on the Livelihoods of Communities in Musina Municipality

ABSTRACT The paper examines the imports of nature and the impacts of tourism development initiatives in Musina Municipality, Limpopo, South Africa. Data was garnered via questionnaire surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, document reviews, and physical observations. The study revealed the plentiful nature of tourism potential, manifesting both actual and potential tourism initiatives. However, tourism benefits to the locals were not forthcoming. Musina Municipality is one of the aridest areas in the far north of Limpopo province, South Africa. Rural communities’ poor livelihood conditions are prevalent. Despite its hinterland qualities, it occupies a largely tourism-based segment in the Vhembe District. Matters of tourism and local economic development have become a more widely studied topic in the past years. Nonetheless, few studies have investigated the synergies between various components and forms of tourism services in rural areas to advance the local communities.

Stakeholder Expectations Influence the Success of Rural Tourism Development: A Tale of Three Stakeholders

This paper explores the stakeholder perceptions on the development of rural tourism in Namibia. The stakeholders include Government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), local communities and tourism establishments. It focuses on two northern regions of Namibia. Kunene region has the largest number of conservancies and Zambezi region is considered the richest region in terms of natural diversity. The research paper utilises descriptive phenomenological principles. Consequently, the approach helped in understanding the rural tourism concept from the stakeholders’ point of view and examine their contribution to the development of rural tourism. The main finding is that the influence of rural tourism development will remain minimal unless all the stakeholders understand the concept of rural tourism and are involved in the development of rural tourism strategies. Hence, the paper reinforces the significance of encouraging active participation of all stakeholders involved in the rural tourism development initiatives.

UNESCO-UNDP tourism and security in Cold War Turkey and Iran

ABSTRACT In the mid 1960s, UNESCO took on tourism development initiatives in both Turkey and Iran that were financed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The projects focused on restoration of historic zones to improve capacity for rural tourism, including concerts and festivals. These were Cold War efforts intended to sway hearts and minds in the countryside that built on earlier industrialization and concurrent militarization schemes. In Turkey, one modest 1965 initiative at Side paved the way for the South Antalya Tourism Infrastructure Project, a 1976 loan for $46.2 million from the World Bank. In Iran, $4 million resulted in the first UNESCO-UNDP tourism program of its kind to link an international tourism agenda with a country’s national development plan: a UNESCO corridor from Tabriz to Shiraz. Drawing from archives at UNESCO and the World Bank, we explore how these initial UNESCO-UNDP tourism programs offered a further buffer for the west to both Soviet and Arab spheres of influence. Through this lens, we argue that tourism development became a way that Turkey and Iran as well as UNESCO, UNDP, and the World Bank became entangled in and benefitted from Cold War security.

How “cultural reshaping” affects rural tourism development in China - a case from zhejiang beautiful countryside demonstration area

A number of studies have been carried out on the importance and connotation of tourism culture. However, from the literature study of tourism culture, it is found that there is still a gap between the remolding of tourism culture and the development of tourism enterprises in the digital era. This study aims to identify the enterprise clustering effect and employment benefit of rural tourism culture reshaping. By empirical research, this study establishes a new conceptual research framework for rural tourism sustainability to cover the gap between the cultural reshaping and enterprise development for rural tourism in Zhejiang. We began with investigation to villagers on their acceptance of reshaped tourism culture. Through interviews with entrepreneurs, this study investigates the relationship between tourism cultural reshaping and tourism enterprise image. An enterprise network of regional tourism cultural IP image has been established to describe the density among the whole tourism cultural industry. The location entropy index is adopted to show the employment in tourism enterprises. This index reflects residents’ acceptance of the reshaped cultural image as a key influencing factor of enterprises’ sustainable development. Furthermore, it is found that tourism cultural reshaping is a significant base for rural tourism industry clustering. The research results suggest that tourism corporation can contribute to the local tourism economy by reshaping culture.

BEHAVIORAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CONSUMERS OF TOURISM PRODUCTS

The main purpose of the study. In the context of the development of tourism enterprises in Azerbaijan, it is necessary to identify rational directions for the use of marketing opportunities both at the company and state levels. To achieve this goal, the following tasks have been set: •Assess the role of marketing in marketing an innovative product; •Determining the behavioral characteristics of consumers of tourism products; •Study of experience in the application of marketing technologies in the tourism industry. Research methodology. Organizes research on the competitiveness of national tourism enterprises in domestic and international markets and generalizations from world experience in this field. Importance of research application. Adoption of the concept on development of national cluster of state tourism marketing policy, creation of normative-legal base in accordance with the concept of tourism development in each field included in tourism cluster on the basis of world experience and international tourism standards, development and adoption of "Tourism development in Azerbaijan" program, makes it necessary to carry out activities such as the regulation of tourism activities. The results of the study. The state's tourism policy must be developed and implemented in terms of time and space. In terms of time, we mean short-term and long-term tourism policies. As a result, the state's tourism policy serves to increase the efficiency of the national tourism cluster and increase the competitiveness of this sector of the national economy. Originality and scientific novelty of the research. In order to develop the national tourism cluster in Azerbaijan, a set of practical measures for tourism marketing activities for local tourism companies and the Government of Azerbaijan is being developed.

СТРУКТУРНО-ДИИНАМІЧНИЙ РОЗВИТОК ГОТЕЛЬНИХ ПІДПРИЄМСТВ

The article examines the structural dynamics of the hotel industry of Ukraine over the past decade and during the global epidemic crisis. Based on statistical data, the following indicators were conducted and analyzed: the share of services provided by hotel enterprises in the service sector, the number of collective accommodation establishments, the structure of hotels and similar and specialized accommodation facilities, the number of rooms in collective accommodation establishments. The essence of the hotel and restaurant enterprises is determined by the synergistic effect of the formation of work for a number of other sectors of the economy, namely: tourism, transport, retail, catering, insurance, culture and art, architecture and design, tour services, advertising industry. The field of tourism is closely connected with the hospitality industry, which has a significant contribution to the development of the state. The geographical position of Ukraine has a positive impact on the development of tourism enterprises and, accordingly, the hotel and restaurant business. Despite this circumstance, the number of hotel rooms per thousand inhabitants in Ukraine is almost eight times lower than in Europe. During the pandemic conditions, the hotel industry suffered significant losses, so its development is important because it forms the tourist image of the country, increases revenues to the state budget and creates new jobs. Ukraine has favorable conditions for the formation of tourism of various kinds (recreational, medical, entertainment, business, etc.), which will increase tourist flows. Therefore, the study of the hotel industry is relevant to meet the needs of consumers and prospects for its development. The aim of the article is to study the structural development of hotel enterprises in the dynamics and determine the state of this development in different regions of Ukraine. The development of hotel enterprises reflects a number of existing problems of this market of services: dynamic changes in external factors that require rapid response; lack of investment; small number of registered and certified enterprises; mostly outdated logistics of hotel enterprises; lack of legislative control over the quality of service; low dynamics of hotel chains development, etc.

COMPETITIVENESS OF TOURISM ENTREPRENEURSHIP AS A DETERMINING CRITERION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TERRITORIAL COMMUNITIES

The development of the domestic tourism market and increasing the level of competitiveness of tourism businesses are urgent tasks in the strategic perspective. Competitive advantages are formed on the basis of efficient use of all available types of resources. The study of the influence of factors on the formation process of tourism businesses competitive advantages is the most important factor in its further effective development. Competitiveness in modern market conditions is considered from the viewpoint of consumers, and therefore marketing activity is an important stage of increase of their competitiveness. The purpose of the article is the development of theoretical and practical mechanisms to increase the competitiveness of tourism businesses and determine the factors of its formation. Results. The competitiveness of tourism businesses is the ability and opportunity to provide travel services through competitive advantages. It is the main factor in ensuring the effective and profitable development of tourism enterprises and determines their ability to function not only in the current financial, economic and political conditions, but also in the financial and economic crisis. It can be argued that the competitiveness of tourism businesses is a determining criterion for the development of local communities. The study revealed that the competitiveness of tourism businesses depends on external factors (macro-environment and meso-environment); factors of the industry environment; factors of the internal environment. Conclusions. Reserves for the growth of tourism businesses competitiveness should be sought in the internal factors of enterprise development, which characterize the production and economic activities; features and specifics of hotel services; quality of customer service; marketing activities. Measures to increase the competitiveness level of tourism businesses should be comprehensive and part of the development strategy of local communities. Strategic management of the tourism businesses competitiveness should be based on a regional reproducible approach to management, which provides maximum use of tourism opportunities and ensuring balanced socio-economic development of the territory. MANAGEMENT OF INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM ENTERPRISES UNDER THE CONDITIONS OF STRENGTHENING OF GLOBALIZATION PROCESSES

The article summarizes the features of world tourism development in the context of strengthening of globalization processes. It is established that the process of managing the innovative development of tourism enterprises should be structured and consistent. The stages of coordination of the management system of innovative development of tourism enterprises with modern tendencies of globalization and functioning of world tourism are determined. Priority measures have been systematized, which will ensure the effective functioning of tourism enterprises and minimize the risks of current activity in the context of strengthening of globalization. Differentiation of priority directions for coordinating the management of innovative development of tourism enterprises with the processes of globalization of world tourism depending on their specialization is carried out. It is concluded that the implementation of the proposed tools for coordinating the management of innovative development of tourism enterprises in the context of globalization creates the preconditions for improving the efficiency of their resource potential under increasing competition in the global tourism market.
