Proposta de fatores críticos para implantação da gestão da qualidade total na indústria brasileira de construção civil

This research aims to present a proposal of Critical Success Factors (CSF) that affect the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) in the Civil Construction Industry in Brazil. An extensive literature review was carried out at the Scopus and Web Of Science bases to survey the CSF for the implementation of TQM in companies of different segments and in companies that work specifically in the construction industry. From this, a questionnaire was generated for distribution to professionals with experience in the civil costruction industry in Brazil. The proposed methodology was based on quantitative research, through a bibliographical study and Survey research using Descriptive Statistics and, finally, Principal Component Analysis, with the objective of studying the CSF initially identified by the literature on latent factors. After analyzing the data, it was concluded that the respondent professionals corroborated all the twenty CSF identified in the literature. In addition, two latent factors were summarized that summarize the CSF for the implementation of the TQM in the Brazilian civil construction industry. In this way, it can be said that there was a contribution to the existing literature, firstly by the support for evidences of theoretical propositions (the variables raised in the literature being corroborated by professionals) and also by the fact that latent factors were found, summarizing to two the number of dimensions to be followed by companies that want to succeed in the implementation of the TQM. The survey was conducted in companies operating in Brazil, the sample size was conditioned to the number of respondents and these were experts who have experience in companies in the construction industry. The study shows the existence of two latent factors for the successful implementation of TQM in companies operating in the Brazilian civil construction industry. The study identified TQM CSF in the literature, compared it with expert opinion through research, and identified latent factors.

The ISO 9001 and TQM in Companies in Latin American: Peru

This article provides a study of the impact of having an Quality Management System based on ISO 9001 in Peruvian companies on the basis of nine factors that measure the success of implementing Total Quality Management (TQM). 212 companies were analyzed with the objective of establishing a comparison between companies certified by ISO 9001 and those that are not. It also proposes that the methodology used for this study may be replicated in other Latin American countries.

Sustaining business excellence through a framework of best practices in TQM

Most organizations recognize that total quality management (TQM) is important but many do not know where to begin or how to sustain it in the long run. There are many examples of organizations that have successfully implemented quality management but there are also as many organizations that have failed in their implementations and perhaps many more that hesitate to embark on the quality journey. In fact, the growth and adoption of TQM in companies have to be facilitated increasingly by national governments. National governments are increasingly playing an active role in promoting and encouraging organizations to embrace TQM practices. Many countries have established national quality awards or business excellence awards to recognize deserving companies. Presents an excellence model for implementing and sustaining business excellence through a structured approach in implementing some of the best practices in TQM found in national quality award winners. Hopes that such a model would guide aspiring organizations in their quality journey. Develops the model using a case study approach on four past winners of the Singapore Quality Award.

Self-assessment of all the health centres of a public health service through the European Model of total quality management.

The Basque Country Public Health Service has moved in the last years from considering quality as an attribute of patient care to thinking that all management can be subject to improvement. Consequently, its general management team has promoted and supported a self-assessment experience of all their centres by means of the European Quality Model. This strategy has been facilitated by the Basque Country Government, which has strongly encouraged total quality management in companies, and has created the Basque Foundation for Quality Promotion, a key institution in this whole process. A total of 26 centres of the Public Health Service concluded a self-assessment process. As the main result of this, different improvement areas were detected, and various necessary actions were implemented in the centres assessed. Advantages, troubles and future work lines to extend and improve the use of the EFQM model in the health sector are discussed.

TQM in practice: a survey of Singapore’s manufacturing companies on their TQM practices and objectives

Presents the findings of a survey on total quality management (TQM) practices of Singapore’s manufacturing companies. Details that the sample comprised 27 companies of different country origins, they came from different industries and together, the companies employed more than 16,000 people, which is approximately 5 per cent of Singapore’s manufacturing labour force, thus, in the view of the writers, representing a fair sample. Confirms from the findings that TQM is well established in Singapore, especially among medium‐ to large‐sized manufacturing companies, although not in all its facets, hence giving a mixed picture. Fails to confirm that the practice of TQM in companies of different country origins was significantly different, though Japan probably had an edge.
