Strengthening Tolerance Character as A Form of Civic Disposition Through Community Engagement In Multicultural Societies

The character of tolerance is important to be developed in a multicultural country like Indonesia. Communities in society need to be developed massively to participate in providing understanding related to diversity, tolerance, and peace. This community can play a role in strengthening the character of tolerance as a form of citizenship for Indonesian citizens. This study aims to describe the role of the community in strengthening the character of tolerance based on a multicultural society, and analyze the implications of activities to strengthen the character of tolerance by the community in developing civic character. This research uses a case study method with a qualitative approach and with research techniques in the form of interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis in this study uses the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of this study show that 1) the role of the SRILI community in strengthening the character of tolerance based on a multicultural society is by holding activities such as conflict resolution training, interfaith dialogue, and overcoming prejudice. 2) Strengthening the character of tolerance can have implications for civic dispositions such as respect for diversity, being inclusive and open, respecting minority rights, commitment to Pancasila, and training critical and reflective thinking skills.

Innovation in Islamic Religious Education in The Digital Era for Students' Religious Tolerance Character Building in Elementary School: An Implementation of Beyond the Wall Learning Model

The digital era has brought significant changes to various aspects of life, including education. This article explores innovations in Islamic religious education that leverage digital technology to foster religious tolerance among students. Through the "Beyond the Wall" learning model, which includes the use of educational applications, e-learning platforms, and augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies, the learning process becomes more interactive, personalised, and contextual. This study uses a qualitative case study method at SDN Tempurejo 2 Jember, which has integrated technology into Islamic religious education. The results indicate that the use of digital technology not only enhances student engagement and understanding of the subject matter but also effectively internalises values of religious tolerance. Interfaith interactions through collaborative projects and dialogue forums help students understand and appreciate differences, build solidarity, and develop a strong attitude of tolerance. The main challenges faced are the digital divide, the need for teacher training, and issues of digital security and ethics. With the right strategies, this learning model can be an effective solution for shaping students' character to be more tolerant and appreciative of diversity in the digital era. This study uses data collection techniques involving in-depth interviews with teachers, students, and parents, as well as direct observations of the learning process at SDN Tempurejo 2 Jember. Additionally, documentation in the form of video recordings and field notes was used to explore the dynamics of student interactions in a technology-based collaborative project. The collected data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach, where the data were grouped into key themes related to understanding religious tolerance, the use of technology in learning, and the challenges faced. This analysis also includes mapping student involvement in collaborative projects and dialogue forums. To ensure the validity of the data, this study employed source triangulation, which compares the results of interviews, observations, and documentation. Furthermore, member checking was carried out by requesting confirmation from informants to ensure the accuracy of the collected data. External validity was also tested by comparing the findings of this study with relevant literature on the use of technology in Islamic religious education.

Reproduction of Tolerance Habitus in High School Students in the VUCA Era (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity)

The progress of Industry 4.0 has had both positive and negative impacts. One of the impacts that can be felt by today's teenagers is a lack of character development. Character cultivation is carried out not only in the family environment, but can also be done in the school environment. School is an arena for cultivating character values ​​for its students. One of the most highlighted character cultivation in the current era is the cultivation of the character of tolerance between religious communities. Departing from these problems, this research aims to discuss the habitus of tolerance in schools in the VUCA Era (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity), especially for students who are Generation Z. The method used in this research is qualitative by in-depth interviews with school students and conducting Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with student representatives at the Surakarta Ex-Karisidenan. The results of this research show that the UCA Era (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) has an impact on the process of reproducing the habitus of tolerance in schools. This is because digital processes in the VUCA Era (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) tend to strengthen polarization and increase disagreement between different groups. When information disseminated via social media or other online platforms tends to mislead or oversimplify the complexity of issues, this can result in stigma, stereotypes, and prejudice against certain groups.

Phenotypic evaluation of Ptb 33 introgressed rice lines for resistance to brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål)

Brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stal) continues its dominantce as an important pest in rice and cause considerable yield loss. Ptb 33 is a well-known source of resistance to BPH. Introgressed lines from Ptb 33 were evaluated against BPH using various parameters of resistant mechanisms. Initial screening was done by protray and modified seedbox screening tests. Eight entries illustrate resistance to BPH in mass screening. Further experiments assessed the mechanisms viz., antibiosis, antixenosis and tolerance in selected resistant entries. Antibiosis studies revealed reduced honeydew excretion, lower nymphal survival rates and prolonged developmental periods in resistant lines compared to the susceptible check. Antixenosis was evaluated through nymphal settling preference tests, with resistant entries showing reduced BPH attraction over time. Tolerance parameters, including Functional Plant Loss Index (FPLI) and Plant Dry Weight Loss Index (PDWLI), indicated varying levels of resistance among the introgressed lines. Among the entries identified as resistant through screening, FSR-3 exhibited strong resistance across all three mechanisms, while X21302-145 showed excellent antibiosis but poor tolerance character. Correlation analysis revealed significant interrelation between various resistance parameters. The study identifies promising BPH-resistant rice lines and elucidates their underlying resistance mechanisms, contributing valuable insights for rice breeding programs in developing durable BPH-resistant cultivars.

Towards a Pancasila Student Profile: Implementation of Multicultural Education in Shaping the Character of Tolerance and Gotong Royong in Learning Natural and Social Sciences in Elementary Schools

This research aims to develop and implement a multicultural education program in Science and Social learning in elementary schools to shape students' characters according to the learner profile of Pancasila, especially in terms of tolerance and mutual cooperation. The ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) approach was used in designing this program. The results showed a significant increase in students' understanding of the values of tolerance and mutual cooperation, as seen from the comparison of pre-test and post-test scores. Students showed a more active and open attitude towards differences, while teachers felt the program helped enrich learning. The evaluation also indicated that the program needs to be adapted for different abilities of students. In conclusion, this multicultural education program proved to be effective in shaping character according to the values of Pancasila and deserves to be implemented more widely.

Pengembangan Buku Teks Peradaban Makanan Pokok Berbasis PjBL untuk Menumbuhkan Karakter Toleransi

The tolerance character crisis in children is concerning due to a lack of effective learning media. This study developed a PjBL-based textbook on staple food civilization using the ADDIE model to foster tolerance. Data were collected through tests, analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, and implemented with eight children aged 10-11 in a Purworejo elementary school. Results showed the textbook was of �very good� quality (score 3.78) and highly effective (98,87%) in fostering tolerance, reflected in positive behavioral changes aligned with tolerance indicators in the children�s daily lives.

Islamic Religious Education Based on Inter-Religious Tolerance at the Elementary School

Religious tolerance is a key value in multicultural societies, and schools are often a suitable place to build understanding and respect for diverse religious beliefs. In the context of education, Islamic Religious Education has an important role in shaping attitudes of tolerance between religious communities. This research aims to develop an effective Islamic Religious Education learning strategy in shaping the character of religious tolerance. This involves curriculum development, teaching methods, and relevant approaches. This study used a qualitative research approach with a phenomenological approach. The methodology of this research involved distributing a prepared questionnaire regarding inter-religious tolerance attitudes in elementary schools. Involving surveys, interviews, observations, documentation, and data analysis then providing a detailed description of the data collected. The steps in conducting research with a phenomenological approach, namely determining the location and individuals, data collection techniques, data recording procedures, field issues, and data storage stages. The results of this study show that (1) the curriculum design integrates tolerance values. (2) educators consistently incorporate teachings about toleration between religious groups into their teaching materials (3) educators serve as role models by symbolizing a tolerant lifestyle, and (4) organize significant religious events and community activities to further promote tolerance.

The Role of Religious Education in Dealing with the Issue of Radicalization among Students

Radicalization has become a serious threat in the world of education, especially among students who are in the developing stage of self-identity search, where curiosity and emotional instability make them vulnerable to the influence of radical ideology. Religious education, in this context, plays a central role in shaping students' character by instilling values of moderation, tolerance, and respect for diversity. This study aims to explore the role of religious education in preventing radicalization, using a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through in-depth observation and interviews involving teachers, students, principals, and parents. The focus of the research is on the implementation of religious moderation values in schools as an effort to build students' critical attitudes towards extremist ideologies. The results of the study show that inclusive, interactive, and collaborative teaching approaches in religious education, both in the classroom and by involving the external community, play an important role in fostering tolerant characters and being able to reject radical narratives. The study highlights the importance of collaboration between schools and families, as well as the need for digital literacy education to strengthen students' resilience to exposure to extremist content on social media. The implications of this study include the need to integrate materials relevant to actual issues in the religious education curriculum, as well as the development of community-based educational programs that involve families and communities as additional bulwarks of protection for students.

Pancasila Village Tolerance Character Education Model: A Case Study of SDN 1 Balun Lamongan

This study examines the model of tolerance character education in Pancasila Village, a case study at SDN I Balun, Lamongan Regency. Balun Village is known as the "Pancasila Village" because of the harmonious diversity of religions and cultures in it. The purpose of this study is to explore and analyze the implementation of tolerance character education and its impact on students. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers, students, and parents, as well as analysis of documents related to the curriculum and school activities. The results of the study show that SDN I Balun has successfully integrated the values of tolerance in the curriculum and daily activities. The program is carried out through interfaith learning, group discussions, and joint activities in the celebration of religious holidays. This has proven to be effective in building mutual respect among students. In addition, support from the community and cooperation between schools and local religious leaders are key factors in the success of this educational model. The tolerance character education model applied at SDN I Balun can be an example for other schools in Indonesia in promoting Pancasila values, especially tolerance from an early age. Systematic implementation and community support are important elements in shaping the character of students who are inclusive and respectful of diversity.

Wayang Kancil Fairy Tale Training for Teachers and Parents of KB 'Aisyiyah Surya Melati Students to Increase Knowledge of Tolerance in Early Childhood

Tolerance is respecting and accepting differences in opinions, culture, religion and other values. In an increasingly diverse society, character education becomes very important to create individuals who can live side by side peacefully. Unfortunately, the value of tolerance in Indonesia is starting to fade, and many cases of intolerance occur in various circles. The government, through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, has intensified character education programs at all levels of education, including early childhood education (PAUD). This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of teachers and parents of KB 'Aisyiyah Surya Melati students in forming children's character through storytelling activities using the Wayang Kancil media to instill the values of tolerance in early childhood. Through this training, it is hoped that it can form a tolerant character in children from an early age. The method used in implementation was socialization and training with a total of 25 participants consisting of teachers and parents of KB 'Aisyiyah Surya Melati students. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in understanding and storytelling skills for teachers and parents. Through these training activities, we succeeded in increasing the knowledge and skills of teachers and parents in storytelling by using the Wayang Kancil media to instill the values of tolerance in young children. It is hoped that this activity can support the formation of children's tolerant, intelligent and ethical character.

The role of schools in the implementation of tolerant characteristics in smp negeri 1 purwakarta

Diversity is the face of Indonesia that is seen by the world. The real differences have a good impact if the development of tolerance is carried out in its education system. In this case, schools play a strategic role in becoming the leading institution that encourages the strengthening of tolerance values as is done at SMP Negeri 1 Purwakarta. This study aims to analyze the role of schools in implementing Character Education in Purwakarta, especially in building tolerant characters. Through the case study method, this study involved teachers, students, school committees, and parents. The results of the study show that SMP Negeri 1 Purwakarta plays a role in (1) implementing every technical rule; (2) providing facilities and infrastructure to support every Character Education program; (3) striving to create an educational environment that is free to worship and has no restrictions whatsoever; (4) a party that strives to build tolerance in several educational bases; and (5) as a place to train students' characters to improve the quality of graduates.

ANALISIS BAHAN AJAR KEBERAGAMAN SUKU BANGSA BUDAYA DALAM MEMBENTUK KARAKTER TOLERANSI DI SEKOLAH DASAR

This research aims to ensure that the character of tolerance can be formed in students, so through the Pancasila and Citizenship Education subjects students can learn about the study of cultural diversity, the environment and community life which can be used as a forum for forming the character of tolerance in everyday life. This research method uses descriptive qualitative to explain real conditions as they are and the data obtained is in the form of sentences and other images. The data sources for this research are class IV A teachers, class IV B teachers and class IV A students. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that teaching materials for ethnic and cultural diversity are very important for forming students' tolerant character in understanding ethnic, cultural and religious differences through the character of tolerance that respects, respects, works together and does not differentiate between friends. However, there is still a lack of teaching materials that only focus on books, in this case there are some students who do not understand differences in ethnicity, culture and religion because the teacher does not pay attention when explaining because he feels bored only focusing on one teaching material. The lack of tolerance character of class IV A students can be seen by the students still chatting and playing when the teacher explains the material.

Improvement of superior soybean variety, Biosoy-1 for aluminium tolerance character

Abstract Indonesia has lot of sub-optimal land, especially outside Java, but generally the land is acidic, contains lots of heavy metals and is poor in nutrients, making it less suitable for agriculture, including soybean cultivation. Efforts to improve land conditions through the application of liming are quite helpful, but are inefficient because they are easily washed out by rainwater and require expensive labor and costs for large areas. The use of tolerant and adaptive varieties for acidic land are effective solutions. Biosoy-1 and Biosoy-2 are new superior soybean varieties released by Ministry of Agriculture which have high yield potential (more than 3 tons/ha) and big grain, but are less adaptive to sub-optimal land so that the planting area is still limited. Efforts to improve the Biosoy variety for aluminum stress tolerant have been carried out through the introgression of the MaMt2 gene from transgenic soybean lines into the Biosoy variety. Thirty of F1 soybean seeds have been produced and 24 plants of them were positive for carrying the MaMt2 gene. Furthermore, the F1-MaMt2 plants were backcrossed to Biosoy several times in order to obtain a soybean line with high yield and tolerance to aluminum stress. Currently, a total of 16 number of BC3F1 seeds are being planting in confined screen house for molecular analysis and following by backcrossing to Biosoy-1 variety to produce BC4F1 seeds.

Development of ICIMAI (Islam Cinta Damai) Comics to Improve Elementary School Students' Tolerance Character

<p><em><span lang="EN-US">The concept of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika exemplifies the diversity of Indonesia while emphasizing its ability to harmoniously unite these differences. However, today conflicts often arise in society caused by differences. The inculcation of multiculturalism in education in schools is thus essential, especially regarding the character of tolerance. Therefore, Research and Development (R&D) research was carried out with the ADDIE development model, which aims to develop and produce ICIMAI comics that link examples of intolerant everyday practices with Islamic values, expected to help improve the tolerance character of students. The development involved media experts, material experts, practitioners, or teachers who evaluated the product. In addition, product tests were also conducted on a limited scale and in the field, each of which involved elementary school students. The results revealed that experts and practitioners declared that the product is in the "Very Good" category, so it is feasible and valid. Students on the limited scale test gave a positive response. The tolerance character of students also experienced an increase, as indicated by a significant increase in tolerance scores after the intervention using ICIMAI comics.</span></em></p>

Intolerance towards aspects of ethnicity, religion, politics, economy, culture, and so on can trigger the vulnerability of national life. The Merdeka Curriculum through the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) is a new strategy in instilling national doctrine. This article analyses the implementation of P5 to strengthen tolerant character through the theme of bhineka tunggal ika and democratic voice, based on the results of field research conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Kandangan and SMPN 2 Temanggung. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data were collected using interviews, observations, FGDs, and documentation studies. Data analysis using interactive descriptive techniques. Research findings: 1) the theme of democratic voice through speeches and debates to develop speaking skills and respect for differences in views and opinions; 2) the theme of bhineka tunggal ika making clippings, stories on the mading, drama narratives and acting out story narratives, and making drama performance videos. P5 is a vehicle for learners to develop various competencies and tolerant characters that are crucial for strengthening the social resilience of society and supporting national integration.

Manipulation of Upconversion Luminescence in Heavily Lanthanide‐Doped Halide Double Perovskites for Optical Information Storage

AbstractUpconversion (UC) process involves diverse energy levels and photoluminescence modes, however, it faces the challenge of concentration quenching of the doped lanthanide ions with multiple luminescence centers. Herein, Yb3+/Ho3+ and Yb3+/Tm3+ are heavily codoped into the lead‐free halide double perovskite single crystal Cs2NaErCl6, enabling the controlled energy transfer UC process, and accordingly, the UC materials exhibit anti‐concentration‐quenching owing to the defect tolerance characters. Depending on different doping couples, the UC materials show green and red emissions under the 980 nm laser excitations. Moreover, the green‐to‐red emission ratio in Yb3+/Tm3+ codoped Cs2NaErCl6 changes dynamically with the increasing pumping intensity due to the different sensitivities of the excited energy levels. This study provides a renewed direction of the lanthanide ions heavily‐doped halide double perovskites toward UC materials and facilitates the development of new smart luminescence materials for optical information storage applications.

Integration of Character Education Values from Imam Al-Ghazali's Perspective in Arabic Language Learning at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Samarinda

The learning process in Arabic language subjects, especially in its implementation, has many children who have quite good morals amid rampant cases of intolerance and cases of juvenile delinquency due to the moral degradation of the nation's children. This study aims to determine whether Arabic Language Learning contains character values relevant to Imam Al-Ghazali's perspective in his book Ayuhal Walad and to find out the impact on Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Samarinda students. This type of research is descriptive qualitative using a case study approach. The data collection techniques used are observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Data analysis techniques using Miles and Huberman interactive analysis. The results showed that the values of the Character Education Perspective of Imam Al-Ghazali Relevant to Arabic Language Learning at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Samarinda. This can be seen in the learning process, such as planning. There are character values of Religion and Hard work, and in the implementation of learning as well, namely Religious, Honest, Hard Work, and Tolerance characters and in the Evaluation also has character values, namely responsibility. Applying these character values also has a good impact on the character and attitude of students after learning.

Changes induced by parental neighboring touch in the clonal plant Glechoma longituba depend on the light environment.

Touch by neighboring plants is a common but overlooked environmental variable for plants, especially in dense vegetation. In addition, shade is inevitable for understory plants. The growth performance of clonal plant to the interaction between thigmomorphogenesis and shade response, and their impact on light adaptability is still unknown. At the present study, parental ramets of Glechoma longituba were exposed to two conditions (neighboring touch and shade), and their offspring ramets were in ambient or shaded environment. The phenotype and growth of parental and offspring ramets were analyzed. The results showed that neighboring touch of parental ramets regulated the performance of offspring ramets, while the effect depended on the light environment. The parental neighboring touch occurring in ambient environment suppressed the expansion of leaf organ, showed as a shorter petiole and smaller leaf area. Moreover, G. longituba exhibited both shade avoidance and shade tolerance characters to shaded environment, such as increased leaf area ratio and leaf mass ratio, longer specific petiole length and specific stolon length. It was notable that these characters of shade response could be promoted by parental neighboring touch to some extent. Additionally, parental light environment plays an important role in offspring growth, parent with ambient light always had well-grown offspring whatever the light condition of offspring, but the growth of offspring whose parent in shaded environment was inhibited. Finally, for the offspring with shaded environment, the touch between parental ramets in shade environment showed a disadvantage on their growth, but the influence of the touch between parental ramets in ambient environment was slight. Overall, the interaction of parental neighboring touch and shade environment complicate the growth of understory plants, the performance of plants is the integrated effect of both. These findings are conducive to an in-depth understanding of the environmental adaptation of plants.

Pengembangan Karakter Toleransi Siswa: Eksplorasi Model Pembelajaran Project Based Learning dalam Membentuk Karakter Siswa

Purpose – This research aims to investigate the effect of implementing the Project Based Learning (PBL) learning model on the development of students' tolerant character in the educational environment.Method – The research method used was an experiment with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The sample consisted of two randomly selected class groups: an experimental group that received PBL and a control group that received conventional learning. Data was collected through questions, questionnaires, and documentation. Hypotheses were tested using t-tests.Findings – The research results indicate a significant positive influence of the Project Based Learning (PBL) model on developing students' tolerance. The control class's mean score is 73.40, while the experimental class's mean score is 80.70, suggesting that the control class has sufficient tolerance, whereas the experimental class shows good tolerance. The significance value obtained is 0.000, confirming the influence of the PBL model. The experimental group demonstrated a higher increase in tolerance compared to the control group. These findings suggest that PBL is an effective approach for fostering students' tolerant character in schools. Research Implications – These findings underscore the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PBL) model in fostering students' tolerance. Implementing PBL can enhance character education in schools by promoting peace, respect for individual differences, and social awareness in the classroom. PBL also improves students' communication skills in project tasks, leading to better learning outcomes. It is recommended to provide guidance and training for teachers on PBL implementation, ensuring they have adequate support and resources for effective application.
