The article considers the conceptual apparatus used in building an operation design in accordance with NATO standards. Planning operations in today's complex and dynamic environment requires a comprehensive and systematic approach that is suggested by NATO directives. The implementation of this planning format in the directive on operational planning in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is relevant in modern conditions and requires a clear understanding of the conceptual framework for building an operation design as one of the key and most complex stages of the operational planning process.The article shows the differences in the conceptual apparatus of operation design in the NATO, US and UK operational planning doctrines and provides recommendations for their application in operational planning in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the current operational environment. The article considers the procedure for building an operation design at the operational level and provides advice on the elements of operation design and their categories, taking into account the growing influence of the information component on decision-making and planning.The expediency of using the provisions of the NATO Comprehensive Operations Planning Directive (COPD) for operational planning in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is determined. It is based on its ability to ensure effective synergistic planning of combined military and non-military forces and capabilities in complex modern conditions at the operational level through constant and close interaction with military-strategic and tactical planning levels.
