Extended conformal symmetry and recursion formulae for Nekrasov partition function

We derive an infinite set of recursion formulae for Nekrasov instanton partition function for linear quiver U(N) supersymmetric gauge theories in 4D. They have a structure of a deformed version of W_{1+\infty} algebra which is called SH^c algebra (or degenerate double affine Hecke algebra) in the literature. The algebra contains W_N algebra with general central charge defined by a parameter \beta, which gives the $\Omega$ background in Nekrasov's analysis. Some parts of the formulae are identified with the conformal Ward identity for the conformal block function of Toda field theory.

SOME REMARKS ON D-BRANES AND DEFECTS IN LIOUVILLE AND TODA FIELD THEORIES

In this paper, we analyze the Cardy–Lewellen equation in general diagonal model. We show that in these models it takes a simple form due to some general properties of conformal field theories, like pentagon equations and OPE associativity. This implies that the Cardy–Lewellen equation has a simple form also in nonrational diagonal models. We specialize our finding to the Liouville and Toda field theories. In particular, we prove that recently conjectured defects in Toda field theory indeed satisfy the cluster equation. We also derive the Cardy–Lewellen equation in all sl(n) Toda field theories and prove that the form of boundary states found recently in sl(3) Toda field theory holds in all sl(n) theories as well.

Solving Toda field theories and related algebraic and differential properties

Toda field theories are important integrable systems. They can be regarded as constrained WZNW models, and this viewpoint helps to give their explicit general solutions, especially when a Drinfeld–Sokolov gauge is used. The main objective of this paper is to carry out this approach of solving the Toda field theories for the classical Lie algebras, following Balog et al. (1990) [5]. In this process, we discover and prove some algebraic identities for principal minors of special matrices. The known elegant solutions of Leznov (1980) [10] fit in our scheme in the sense that they are the general solutions to our conditions discovered in this solving process. To prove this, we find and prove some differential identities for iterated integrals. It can be said that altogether our paper gives complete mathematical proofs for Leznov’s solutions.

SELECTED TOPICS IN CLASSICAL INTEGRABILITY

Basic notions regarding classical integrable systems are reviewed. An algebraic description of the classical integrable models together with the zero curvature condition description is presented. The classical r-matrix approach for discrete and continuum classical integrable models is introduced. Using this framework the associated classical integrals of motion and the corresponding Lax pair are extracted based on algebraic considerations. Our attention is restricted to classical discrete and continuum integrable systems with periodic boundary conditions. Typical examples of discrete (Toda chain, discrete NLS model) and continuum integrable models (NLS, sine–Gordon models and affine Toda field theories) are also discussed.

Non-Hermitian multi-particle systems from complex root spaces

We provide a general construction procedure for antilinearly invariant complex root spaces. The proposed method is generic and may be applied to any Weyl group allowing us to take any element of the group as a starting point for the construction. Worked-out examples for several specific Weyl groups are presented, focusing especially on those cases for which no solutions were found previously. When applied to the defining relations of models based on root systems, this usually leads to non-Hermitian models, which are nonetheless physically viable in a self-consistent sense as they are antilinearly invariant by construction. We discuss new types of Calogero models based on these complex roots. In addition, we propose an alternative construction leading to q-deformed roots. We employ the latter type of roots to formulate a new version of affine Toda field theories based on non-simply laced root systems. These models exhibit on the classical level a strong–weak duality in the coupling constant equivalent to a Lie algebraic duality, which is known for the quantum version of the undeformed case.

Generalized q-Onsager algebras and dynamical K-matrices

A procedure to construct K-matrices from the generalized q-Onsager algebra is proposed. This procedure extends the intertwiner techniques used to obtain scalar (c-number) solutions of the reflection equation to dynamical (non-c-number) solutions. It shows the relation between soliton non-preserving reflection equations or twisted reflection equations and the generalized q-Onsager algebras. These dynamical K-matrices are important to quantum integrable models with extra degrees of freedom located at the boundaries; for instance, in the quantum affine Toda field theories on the half-line, they yield the boundary amplitudes. As examples, the cases of and are treated in detail.

Notes on 3-point functions of A N−1 Toda theory and AGT-W relation for SU(N) quiver

We study on the property of 3-point correlation functions of 2-dim A_{N-1} Toda field theory, and show the correspondence with the 1-loop part of partition function of 4-dim N=2 SU(N) quiver gauge theory. As a result, we can check successfully the 1-loop part of AGT-W relation for all the cases of SU(N) quiver gauge group.

W1+∞algebra as a symmetry behind the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa relation

We give some evidences which imply that W(1+infinity) algebra describes the symmetry behind AGT(-W) conjecture: a correspondence between the partition function of N=2 supersymmetric quiver gauge theories and the correlators of Liouville (Toda) field theory.

Common structures of quantum field theories and lattice systems through boundary symmetry

The sine-Gordon model and affine Toda field theories on the half-line, on the one hand, the XXZ spin chain with nondiagoual boundary terms, and interacting many-body lattice systems with a flow, on the other, have a common characteristic. They possess nonlocal conserved boundary charges, generating the Askey-Wilson algebra, a coideal subalgebra of the bulk quantized affine symmetry. We argue that the boundary Askey-Wilson symmetry is the deep algebraic property allowing for integrability of the physical system in consideration.

(de)Tails of Toda CFT

The relation between the partition function of N=2 gauge theories in 4d and conformal Toda field theory in 2d is explained for the case where the 4d theory is a linear quiver with "quiver tails". That is when the 4d theory has gauge groups of different rank. We propose an identification of a subset of the states of Toda CFT which represent the Coulomb-branch parameters of the different rank gauge multiplets and study their three-point functions and descendants.

Integrable defects in affine Toda field theory and infinite-dimensional representations of quantum groups

Transmission matrices for two types of integrable defect are calculated explicitly, first by solving directly the nonlinear transmission Yang–Baxter equations, and second by solving a linear intertwining relation between a finite-dimensional representation of the relevant Borel subalgebra of the quantum group underpinning the integrable quantum field theory and a particular infinite-dimensional representation expressed in terms of sets of generalised ‘quantum’ annihilation and creation operators. The principal examples analysed are based on the a 2 ( 2 ) and a n ( 1 ) affine Toda models but examples of similar infinite-dimensional representations for quantum Borel algebras for all other affine Toda theories are also provided.

$\mathcal{PT}$ Invariant Complex E 8 Root Spaces

We provide a construction procedure for complex root spaces invariant under antilinear transformations, which may be applied to any Coxeter group. The procedure is based on the factorisation of a chosen element of the Coxeter group into two factors. Each of the factors constitutes an involution and may therefore be deformed in an antilinear fashion. Having the importance of the E(8)-Coxeter group in mind, such as underlying a particular perturbation of the Ising model and the fact that for it no solution could be found previously, we exemplify the procedure for this particular case. As a concrete application of this construction we propose new generalisations of Calogero-Moser Sutherland models and affine Toda field theories based on the invariant complex root spaces and deformed complex simple roots, respectively.

An Ar threesome: Matrix models, 2d conformal field theories, and 4d N=2 gauge theories

We explore the connections between three classes of theories: Ar quiver matrix models, d=2 conformal Ar Toda field theories, and d=4 N=2 supersymmetric conformal Ar quiver gauge theories. In particular, we analyze the quiver matrix models recently introduced by Dijkgraaf and Vafa (unpublished) and make detailed comparisons with the corresponding quantities in the Toda field theories and the N=2 quiver gauge theories. We also make a speculative proposal for how the matrix models should be modified in order for them to reproduce the instanton partition functions in quiver gauge theories in five dimensions.

A& B model approaches to surface operators and Toda thoeries

It has recently been argued by Alday et al that the inclusion of surface operators in 4d N=2 SU(2) quiver gauge theories should correspond to insertions of certain degenerate operators in the dual Liouville theory. So far only the insertion of a single surface operator has been treated (in a semi-classical limit). In this paper we study and generalise this proposal. Our approach relies on the use of topological string theory techniques. On the B-model side we show that the effects of multiple surface operator insertions in 4d N=2 gauge theories can be calculated using the B-model topological recursion method, valid beyond the semi-classical limit. On the mirror A-model side we find by explicit computations that the 5d lift of the SU(N) gauge theory partition function in the presence of (one or many) surface operators is equal to an A-model topological string partition function with the insertion of (one or many) toric branes. This is in agreement with an earlier proposal by Gukov. Our A-model results were motivated by and agree with what one obtains by combining the AGT conjecture with the dual interpretation in terms of degenerate operators. The topological string theory approach also opens up new possibilities in the study of 2d Toda field theories.

Generalized q-Onsager Algebras and Boundary Affine Toda Field Theories

Generalizations of the q-Onsager algebra are introduced and studied. In one of the simplest case and q = 1, the algebra reduces to the one proposed by Uglov–Ivanov. In the general case and q ≠ 1, an explicit algebra homomorphism associated with coideal subalgebras of quantum affine Lie algebras (simply and non-simply laced) is exhibited. Boundary (soliton non-preserving) integrable quantum Toda field theories are then considered in light of these results. For the first time, all defining relations for the underlying non-Abelian symmetry algebra are explicitly obtained. As a consequence, based on purely algebraic arguments all integrable (fixed or dynamical) boundary conditions are classified.

Hitchin systems, [formula omitted] gauge theories and W-gravity

We propose some arguments supporting an M-theory derivation of the duality recently discovered by Alday, Gaiotto and Tachikawa between two-dimensional conformal field theories and N=2 superconformal gauge theories in four dimensions. We find that AN−1 Toda field theory is the simplest two-dimensional conformal field theory quantizing the moduli of N M5-branes wrapped on a Riemann surface. This leads us to identify chiral operators of the N=2 gauge theories with integrated W-algebra currents. As a check of this correspondence we study some relevant OPE's obtaining that Nekrasov's partition function satisfies W-geometry constraints.

The Quiver Matrix Model and 2d-4d Conformal Connection

We review the quiver matrix model (the ITEP model) in the light of the recent progress on 2d-4d connection of conformal field theories, in particular, on the relation between Toda field theories and a class of quiver superconformal gauge theories. On the basis of the CFT representation of the beta deformation of the model, a quantum spectral curve is introduced as << det (x- i g_s \partial \phi(z)) >>=0 at finite N and for beta \neq 1. The planar loop equation in the large N limit follows with the aid of W_n constraints. Residue analysis is provided both for the curve of the matrix model with the "multi-log" potential and for the Seiberg-Witten curve in the case of SU(n) with 2n flavors, leading to the matching of the mass parameters. The isomorphism of the two curves is made manifest.

Gauge theory Wilson loops and conformal Toda field theory

The partition function of a family of four dimensional N=2 gauge theories has been recently related to correlation functions of two dimensional conformal Toda field theories. For SU(2) gauge theories, the associated two dimensional theory is A_1 conformal Toda field theory, i.e. Liouville theory. For this case the relation has been extended showing that the expectation value of gauge theory loop operators can be reproduced in Liouville theory inserting in the correlators the monodromy of chiral degenerate fields. In this paper we study Wilson loops in SU(N) gauge theories in the fundamental and anti-fundamental representation of the gauge group and show that they are associated to monodromies of a certain chiral degenerate operator of A_{N-1} Toda field theory. The orientation of the curve along which the monodromy is evaluated selects between fundamental and anti-fundamental representation. The analysis is performed using properties of the monodromy group of the generalized hypergeometric equation, the differential equation satisfied by a class of four point functions relevant for our computation.

Comments on defects in the ar Toda field theories

A simple, basic argument is given, based solely on energy–momentum considerations, to recover conditions under which ar affine or conformal Toda field theories can support defects of integrable type. Associated triangle relations are solved to provide expressions for transmission matrices that generalize previously known examples calculated for the sine-Gordon model and the a2 affine Toda model.
