It is often said that wound-care education in pre-registration training is all too limited. The results are there for all to see. Unfortunately, it is tissue viability nurses who face the challenge of how to address this knowledge deficit. This requires careful thought. How can they identify which, of the many areas of wound care, nurses in their trust most need education on? How can they engage most effectively with them? What level of education will best suit their needs? Should it be delivered by traditional methods, such as lectures, or more informally? What, in short, is the most cost-effective way of delivering education that has lasting benefits in terms of patient outcomes?
