Assessment Of Challenges Faced by Caregivers of Older Adults Living with Visual Impairment in Enugu East Local Government Area

The effect of visual impairment can be profound on older adults as well as their caregivers, affecting their independence, quality of life and ability to navigate daily activities. The study is designed to find out challenges faced by caregivers of older adults living with visual impairments in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling technique which comprised purposive sampling technique, simple random sampling technique by balloting and availability sampling where used at various stages to select 24 participants which comprised of 4 male and 4 female who were caregivers to visual impairment older adults chosen from eye clinics within the three selected district that made Enugu East. Data was generated using an in-dept interview guide and analysied thematically using quotes from the research participants. The study revealed emotional stress and burden, insufficient time for personal care and activities, financial drain, depression and anxiety as the major challenges of the caregivers to visually impaired older adults, whereas factors such as poor medical facilities, financial constraints, and poor welfare packages where identified to be responsible for the challenges. Further findings revealed social workers could play crucial role by providing emotional support, resource coordination, advocacy, counseling to crisis intervention to assist caregivers cope with these challenges.

Long-Term Function Recovery Following Upper Versus Lower Lobectomy for Lung Cancer: A Multicenter Longitudinal Cohort Study.

The effects of lobectomy at various lung sites on postoperative function and recovery vary. This study aimed at assessing the long-term impact of upper versus lower lobectomy on patients' postoperative daily function by analyzing patient-reported outcomes. This multicenter prospective cohort study enrolled patients from six hospitals in China. Functional impairments and symptom severity were measured using the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory-Lung Cancer. A mixed-effects linear model was employed to analyze the average trajectories of each functional item and the top five symptoms over the first year following surgerybetween patients undergoing upper and lower lobectomy. The median recovery days for daily function were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, with the log-rank test comparing differences between upper and lower lobectomy. Two hundred twenty-six patients met the final analysis criteria, with 137 undergoing upper and 89 undergoing lower lobectomies. Those in the lower lobectomy group reported significantly greater interference with daily activities (estimate = 0.872, SE = 0.306, p = 0.004), mood (estimate = 0.667, SE = 0.297, p = 0.025), and work (estimate = 0.856, SE = 0.358, p = 0.017), indicating a more pronounced impact on postsurgical functional recovery compared to the upper lobectomy group within the first year after surgery. They also experienced longer median recovery times for daily activities (15 vs. 4 days), mood (6 vs. 3.5 days), and walking (7 vs. 4 days) compared to the upper lobectomy group. Within the first year after surgery, lower lobectomy patients experienced greater impairment in daily functions and required longer recovery times compared to upper lobectomy patients. NCT03341377.

Analysis of Attendance System for Discipline Enforcement of Bappeda Fakfak Employees

The employee attendance system is a data collection on employee attendance which is part of the reporting activity in an agency in helping to improve order and discipline in the work environment. In Bappeda Fakfak, it was found that the attendance system in this office uses manual attendance. Previously, the Bappeda Fakfak office implemented a fingerprint attendance system or fingerprint machine but it did not last long, because the fingerprint machine or fingerprint machine was damaged so it returned to using the manual attendance system. found several employees who were less disciplined, this was proven by the fact that there were still employees who did not arrive on time according to office hours, besides that there were employees who only left their attendance because there were sudden activities so they could not directly fill in the attendance. This study aims to enforce discipline of Bappeda Fakfak employees. This study is qualitative, therefore, to achieve the objectives of the study, data collection techniques were used, namely observation, interviews, in this study there were 5 informants, namely the secretary of Bappeda Fakfak, the Head of the general and personnel sub-section, and 3 Bappeda Fakfak employees. Based on the results of this study, it shows that the discipline of Bappeda Fakfak employees is in the category of "quite Good. It can be seen from the indicators 1) Time compliance includes coming to work on time, namely every ASN employee or honorary employee of Bappeda Fakfak comes to the office at 07.30 and goes home at 15.30, although there are still some who come less than the office hours. Effective use of time, namely every employee manages time in various activities so that their performance is maximized. Never not working, namely every employee never does not carry out tasks at all, based on the results of research and interviews that in every activity must involve all colleagues and superiors so that the activities carried out run smoothly. 2) Responsibilities include obeying all orders, namely every employee carries out all regulations or guidelines in Bappeda Fakfak, then work targets, namely every Bappeda Fakfak employee has a target for every job they do, they must complete their work according to the deadline that has been set, and making daily work reports, namely all employees in Bappeda Fakfak make daily reports to evaluate the performance of employees concerned with the work or activities carried out recorded or written in the daily report based on their duties and functions.

Involving People With Lived Experience in Electronic Health Record Database Studies Reflections and Learning From the CHOOSE Study.

Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) is integral to health research. Reporting of PPIE methods and impact is becoming increasingly common in health research. However, reporting on PPIE in studies using large, routinely collected electronic health record data sets is less common. Anecdotal evidence suggests that involvement in this research context is more challenging and offers fewer opportunities for meaningful influence on the research process. This paper reports the involvement approach for a Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) study and critically reflects on the process and impact of involving young people, parents and carers in research using this UK primary care electronic health record data set. The CHOOSE study investigated mental health diagnoses of children and young people (1-24 years) during the COVID-19 pandemic using the CPRD. The study was informed by a Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) which consisted of 13 members including 8 young people (13-25 years) with lived experience of mental health difficulties and 5 parents/carers, with involvement activities facilitated by project partners, mental health research charity, The McPinR Foundation. We reflect on this process in this manuscript. Key benefits of involving people with lived experience in this research included making sense of and contextualising findings and ensuring that they were focused on making a difference to young people's lives. Challenges included the fixed nature of the CPRD data, which did not capture all the information people with lived experience perceived to be important. Researchers expressed limited time for PPIE activities although that was compensated by McPin colleagues who organised and facilitated online meetings, and supported the young people, parents and carers during and between meetings. This paper describes an approach to patient and public involvement in an electronic health record database study. Working collaboratively with young people, carers and other stakeholders requires sufficient time and adequate resources. We also highlight the importance of appropriate training and support and being transparent about the limitations of PPIE involvement. Three members of the CHOOSE LEAP have been involved in conceptualising and writing this paper.

Student Attendance, Study Activities, Major, and Midterm Grades as Predictors of Final Course Grades of Undergraduate and Graduate Plant Materials Courses during the Eras before and after COVID-19

Data were collected from four plant materials courses over the span of 20 years. Two classes were at the undergraduate level, Trees and Shrubs for Sustainable Built Environments (HORT 306) and Plants for Sustainable Landscapes (HORT 308), and two classes were at the graduate level, Plants for Landscape Design (HORT 608) and Plants for Landscape Design II (HORT 609). Data from these courses were analyzed to determine trends in student performance and benchmarks that might be associated with student success. Data included student enrollment, midterm course grades, final course grades, number of unexcused absences, student-reported study times for various activities, student major, student experience (class rank), whether the courses were required, and perceived difficulty levels of the courses. Trends in grade distributions were fairly stable until the last 3 to 4 years before COVID-19, when mean final grades and the frequencies of A or B grades increased. Midterm grades were strongly positively correlated with final course grades across majors in all four courses before COVID-19 (R2 = 0.90, 0.74, 0.72, and 0.54 for HORT 306, HORT 308, HORT 608, and HORT 609, respectively; P ≤ 0.001) and continued to be positively correlated after COVID-19. The number of unexcused absences was negatively significantly correlated with final course grades across majors (R2 = −0.69, −0.63, −0.21, and −0.45 for HORT 306, HORT 308, HORT 608, and HORT 609, respectively) before COVID-19 (P ≤ 0.001) and continued to be similarly correlated after COVID-19. Fewer reductions from midterm to final grades were observed for fall courses than for spring courses, particularly for seniors. Self-reported time spent studying all aspects of the courses was either not significantly correlated (P ≤ 0.05) or surprisingly slightly negatively correlated with the final course grades for all four courses. Perceptions of courses as moderately difficult (range, 7.0–8.0 out of 10.0) were remarkably stable overall but varied considerably by major (range, 5.0–8.3) and experience (range, 7.5 for seniors to 8.1 for freshman). More than 96% of enrollment in the graduate courses both before and after COVID-19 comprised Horticulture and Landscape Architecture majors, whereas undergraduate enrollment included a wide diversity of majors; however, the majority of those students were horticulture or landscape architecture majors. Biological science students or students who were architectural design majors were the top-performing students in both undergraduate courses, whereas undeclared majors, social science majors, and those in probationary major categories were among the lower-performing students in both undergraduate courses.

This paper presents the implementation of a machine learning algorithm, leveraging natural language processing (NLP) and labeling techniques, to analyze medical leaflets from Romania. The aim is to assist pediatricians in determining appropriate treatment doses for children based on various parameters such as age, weight, and other significant factors.

The Impact of Digital Devices on Children's Health: A Systematic Literature Review.

The impact of prolonged digital device exposure on physical and mental health in children has been widely investigated by the scientific community. Additionally, the lockdown periods due to the COVID-19 pandemic further exposed children to screen time for e-learning activities. The aim of this systematic review (PROSPERO Registration: CRD42022315596) was to evaluate the effect of digital device exposure on children's health. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was additionally explored to verify the further exposure of children due to the e-learning environment. Available online databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, BASE, Scopus, Web of Science, and SPORTDiscus) were searched for study selection. The PICO model was followed by including a target population of children aged 2 to 12 years, exposed or not to any type of digital devices, while evaluating changes in both physical and mental health outcomes. The quality assessment was conducted by using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tool. Synthesis without meta-analysis (SWiM) guidelines were followed to provide data synthesis. Forty studies with a total sample of 75,540 children were included in this systematic review. The study design was mainly cross-sectional (n = 28) and of moderate quality (n = 33). Overall, the quality score was reduced due to recall, selection, and detection biases; blinding procedures influenced the quality score of controlled trials, and outcome validity reduced the quality score of cohort studies. Digital device exposure affected physical activity engagement and adiposity parameters; sleep and behavioral problems emerged in children overexposed to digital devices. Ocular conditions were also reported and associated with higher screen exposure. Home confinement during COVID-19 further increased digital device exposure with additional negative effects. The prolonged use of digital devices has a significant negative impact on children aged 2 to 12, leading to decreased physical activity, sleep disturbances, behavioral issues, lower academic performance, socioemotional challenges, and eye strain, particularly following extended online learning during lockdowns.

Screen time and obesity prevalence in adolescents: an isotemporal substitution analysis

BackgroundWe examined the associations between screen time and adolescent obesity and the associations of reallocating screen time to other activities using isotemporal substitution models. Understanding the association between screen time and obesity may provide additional insights into effective obesity prevention strategies in adolescents.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 5,180 adolescents (4th and 7th grade students) from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018. Participants reported their height, weight, and average time spent watching television, using computer, using smartphone, and other after-school activities. Obesity was defined as BMI-for-age and -sex ≥ 95th percentile based on the 2017 Korean National Growth Charts. We performed multivariable logistic regression to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the associations between screen time and obesity prevalence, adjusting for potential confounders.ResultsProlonged smartphone use (≥ 180 vs. <60 m/d: OR [95% CI] = 2.75 [2.06, 3.68]) was associated with a higher obesity prevalence. Television watching (≥ 120 vs. <60 min/d) was positively associated with obesity prevalence among 4th grade students (2.09 [1.51, 2.89]) but the association was not observed among 7th grade students (0.97 [0.63, 1.49]). One-hour increments of any non-screen time activities, with a simultaneous 1-hour decrease in combined screen time, were associated with a lower obesity prevalence (physical activity: 0.75 [0.65, 0.85]; sleeping: 0.69 [0.62, 0.78]; hanging out with friends: 0.80 [0.71, 0.89]; reading: 0.82 [0.69, 0.97]; studying: 0.84 [0.78, 0.90]; chatting with parents: 0.89 [0.88, 0.98]).ConclusionsOur data suggest that public health strategies that reduce screen time and increase time for non-screen time activities, such as physical activity, may be effective in lowering adolescent obesity prevalence.

MYSTICAL RADIANCE OF MANUSCRIPT: A PARATEXTUAL STUDY OF ISLAMIC ASTRONOMY MANUSCRIPT

Society treating manuscripts as objects with mystical power is often viewed as a myth that has no scientific basis. There are differences of perspectives about mystical belief and reality that evoke supernatural phenomenon related to manuscripts. This research analyzes the paratextual aspects of the Islamic Astronomy Manuscript owned by Husen Hatuwe in Keitetu Village, Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency. The manuscript is used as a guidance to determine the right time for various daily activities and considered to have mystical power by the local community. This research is a philological study which used data collection technique through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The paratextual approach in this research reveals the external narrative aspects of the manuscript, including how the local culture influences and get influenced by the existence of the manuscript. Apart from serving as a guidance to determine the right time for religious rituals, this manuscript is also Mystical Radiance of Manuscript … – Syahrir Kila, et.al | 253 believed to have spiritual power that maintains the social balance in the community. In addition, this research contributes to the attempt to preserve the ancient manuscripts in Maluku, which most of them are damaged due to inadequate storage as well as analyze the role of this manuscript in the social, spiritual, and cultural context of the local community.

Recreational reading as a leisure activity: Perspectives from Georgian and Finnish hearing and deaf students

AbstractThe benefits of recreational reading for academic success are clear. However, the full potential of recreational reading for socialisation and well‐being remains untapped by young readers. Studies of young readers' recreational reading intentions and perceived barriers to translating intentions into reading are scarce. Deaf and hard‐of‐hearing students have been particularly excluded from research on leisure reading. Using a mixed methods approach, this study investigates Finnish and Georgian students' attitudes towards leisure reading and the relationship between their reading intentions and actual reading. Students' engagement in recreational reading is assessed through a quantitative survey, while their attitudes and intentions towards reading are revealed through focus group interviews. The results of this study suggest that students generally have positive attitudes towards reading, regardless of their country of origin and degree of hearing loss. Furthermore, the analysis reveals a wide range of barriers to reading, the most common of which are long school days, large amounts of homework, limited free time and preferences for other leisure activities. Some speculative findings from this study will be used as a basis for further research, focusing on reading during COVID‐19.

THE IMPACT OF AI ON TEACHERS: SUPPORT OR REPLACEMENT?

The article explores the growing role of AI in education, analyzing whether it serves as a supportive tool for teachers or poses a threat to their jobs. AI can automate routine tasks such as grading and administrative work, freeing up teachers’ time for more meaningful activities like personalized student interaction and lesson planning. Additionally, AI-powered tools enhance data-driven teaching, providing teachers with valuable insights to improve student performance and offer individualized support. While AI offers significant advantages, the article emphasizes that it cannot replace the human qualities essential to teaching, such as emotional intelligence, empathy, and creativity. These are areas where AI falls short, making it unlikely to fully replace teachers. Instead, AI allows teachers to evolve their roles from traditional instruction to mentorship and guidance, focusing on fostering critical thinking and creativity in students. However, there are concerns that AI could reduce teaching jobs or fundamentally change the role of educators. Teachers may also resist AI due to fears of job displacement or lack of sufficient training to use these technologies effectively. The article concludes that AI, when used responsibly, acts as a valuable partner rather than a replacement. By taking over repetitive tasks, AI enables teachers to concentrate on more impactful educational activities, ensuring that the human element remains at the heart of learning.

The relationship between leisure activity participation and cognitive function among older Chinese adults: the differences across gender and age

As population aging increased globally, this study aimed to examine the relationship between leisure activity participation and cognitive function in the older Chinese population and the gender and age differences in this relationship. A total of 12526 individuals aged 60 years and older from the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey were obtained for this study. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the relationship. This study found productive, physical, intellectual, recreational and social activities were associated with cognitive function. Males enjoyed extra benefits from recreational activities compared with females. Females enjoyed extra benefits from productive activities and social activities compared with males. Older age enjoyed extra benefits from productive activities, physical activities, intellectual activities, recreational activities, social activities in comparison with younger age. Thus, Chinese older adults need to make efforts to increase the time and variety of leisure activities, especially for the oldest old. Compared with other types of leisure activities, it’s more important for old men to participate in recreational activities, and for old women to participate in productive activities and social activities.

Prospective Association of Sedentary Behavior With Psychological Distress Among Adolescents

PurposeTo analyze the associations of different types and contexts of sedentary behavior during mid-adolescence (14 years) with later psychological distress (at 17 years). MethodsThe data include 3,675 adolescents from the Millennium Cohort Study. During mid-adolescence, participants completed a time-use diary reporting time in different sedentary activities, which were also categorized into broader contexts (i.e., Leisure-based screen-time, leisure-based nonscreen time, and educational sedentary behavior). Participants reported psychological distress at the 17-year wave, through the Kessler scale. Gender, parent’s education, family net income, parent’s psychological distress, body mass index, physical activity, total sedentary time (time-use diary), depressive symptoms, and bullying victimization, all assessed during mid-adolescence, were used as covariates. Interaction terms were included to assess the effect-modification of gender. ResultsIncreasing 1 hour of playing video games, reading for leisure and total leisure-based screen-time was prospectively associated with a 3% (risk ratio: 1.03; 1.01–1.04), 5% (1.05; 1.01–1.08) and 2% (1.02; 1.01–1.03) higher psychological distress respectively. Only the groups with more than 180 min/day of leisure-based screen time were associated with higher psychological distress (180–300 min/day: 1.08; 95% confidence interval: 1.00–1.17. 300+ min/d: 1.13; 95% confidence interval: 1.03–1.23). Similarly, only higher levels of reading for leisure and playing video games were associated with higher psychological distress. Moderate (60–119 min) durations of homework (0.92; 0.86–0.99) and higher durations attending class (0.94; 0.89–0.99) were associated with lower psychological distress. There were only minor gender interactions. DiscussionAmong adolescents, the association between sedentary behavior and psychological distress is domain-dependent. Future interventions should focus on reducing leisure-time screen-based behaviors to less than 3 h/day.

INTEGRATION OF QFD AND DEA METHODS TOGETHER TO PRIORITISE CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS: THE CASE OF A SERVICE ORGANISATION

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a method used to transform customer expectations into technical requirements and to identify the technical requirements that need to be improved to meet these expectations. QFD stands out as a method that has found wide application in the literature and industry in terms of its advantage in transforming relatively more abstract customer expectations into concrete product and process parameters and its ease of application. One of the most important disadvantages of the method is that in the prioritization of technical requirements related to customer expectations, criteria such as the cost of the technical requirement in question, the implementation time of the necessary improvement activities, etc., are not considered. In this study, an approach in which Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methods are applied together with the QFD method to take into account the costs in the prioritization of technical requirements is presented. According to the results of a sample application carried out in a cafe business to test the approach, it is concluded that taking costs into account in the prioritization process should be prioritized in order to meet customer expectations.

Biofeedback system in remotely monitored exercise program in pregnant women with obesity: a pre-experimental research

Objectives: E-health programs may be an excellent strategy to overcome some barriers related to the non-practice of exercise among pregnant women with obesity. This study aims to present a monitored exercise program for pregnant women with obesity using the Sword Phoenix® biofeedback system; and to evaluate pregnant women's perception of the biofeedback system and the exercise program protocol. Methods: A pre-experimental research was done through a One-shot case study design. Twelve pregnant women with Body Mass Index ≥ 30 kg/m2, were invited to perform for two weeks a home-based structured exercise program protocol with a digital biofeedback system, during exercise the women used an accelerometer to measure the intensity of the exercises. At the end of the two-week exercise period, the pregnant women filled in a questionnaire to assess their perception of usability, satisfaction, safety and motivation regarding exercise program and biofeedback system. Results: The accelerometry results indicate that, during the exercise program protocol, the pregnant women spent 79.3% of the time in moderate activities. The adherence to the program had an average performance of 40%. The results of the questionnaire demonstrated that 100% (n=12) of the participants enjoyed the system and recognized it as a safe instrument with the potential to increase physical activity during pregnancy. Discussion: The biofeedback system can be a useful tool for implementing an exercise program for pregnant women with obesity. The proposed exercise program complies with international recommendations for physical exercise during pregnancy, ensuring safety. Additionally, it reduces the team intervention, increases participant motivation, and has the potential to reduce sedentary behavior in pregnant women with obesity.

Irrigation automation: overcoming challenges and promoting opportunities in family farming

Family farming in Brazil faces significant challenges regarding access to modern technologies, such as mechanisation and irrigation, which are more accessible to agribusiness. This disparity directly impacts the productivity and sustainability of family farming. The article aims to explore the economic and environmental benefits of irrigation automation for family farming, highlighting the importance of adapting this technology to local conditions and techniques already used by small producers. A multidisciplinary approach was used, combining literature review, data analysis, and the inclusion of a proposed irrigation automation board. Data were collected through interviews with agricultural producers and content analysis to identify patterns and research gaps. The proposed irrigation automation board proved efficient and accessible for small producers, allowing control of up to four distinct irrigation zones. The technology provided more precise and efficient irrigation, reducing costs and increasing productivity. Additionally, automation allowed farmers more time for other activities, improving their quality of life. Irrigation automation offers significant benefits for family farming, such as greater water efficiency, cost reduction, and increased productivity. However, it is essential to adapt this technology to local conditions and techniques already used by small producers. Public policies that encourage and value local production are essential to promote the sustainable development of family farming and reduce social inequalities

Application of pre-programmed lighting control scenarios: A mixed-methods pilot study in Swedish residential environments

Everyday light exposure plays a vital role in circadian entrainment, especially during twilight. Electric lighting can supplement daylight anytime, enabling unlimited human activity; hence, many struggle to combine a healthy sleep regime with social constraints. Dusk/dawn simulators have been developed to compensate for the lack of twilight exposure and are typically applied in residential environments, where people usually sleep. Innovations in tuneable lighting control enable home-integrated dusk/dawn simulation, but it is essential to understand their performance and acceptance in real-life situations. A pilot field study was executed in 14 Swedish apartments and tested 3 lighting control scenarios for effects on behaviour, well-being and sleep patterns during the winter. Data were collected using wearable actigraphy, weekly surveys and interviews. The light intervention influenced wake- and bedtimes and contributed to slightly more consistent sleep schedules. Subjective responses emphasised that the dawn simulation assisted in a calm and peaceful wake-up, providing extra time for morning activities. The dusk simulation was a reminder to go to bed, but not all participants appreciated the light quality. Satisfaction and acceptance of the pre-programmed dusk/dawn control system were very high, provided there would be increased control for the residents.

Exploring the use of meal delivery services in Belgium

Abstract Background Ready-to-eat meal delivery services have become commonplace in recent years and their growth accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the potential ramifications on dietary habits and subsequent health outcomes remain largely unexplored. Given the well-established links between unhealthy dietary patterns and chronic diseases such as obesity, type II diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, understanding the determinants and public health implications of ready-to-eat meal delivery services use is imperative. This study aims to investigate the determinants associated with the use of ready-to-eat meal delivery services and their implications for health behaviours and outcomes. Methods This cross-sectional study is conducted amongst adults residing in Flanders or Brussels, Belgium. A quantitative online survey commenced in April 2024 and is scheduled to conclude by June 2024. Structural equation models will be used to assess determinants and implications of ready-to-eat meal delivery services use. Latent class analysis will be used to identify user profiles and subsequent structural equation modelling will assess determinants of these profiles and their associated health (behaviour) outcomes. Results Preliminary results suggest meal delivery usage was higher in younger and middle-income users. Main reasons of use amongst users (n = 139) were more time for leisure activities (66%) and supermarket avoidance (64%). Main reasons for non-use amongst non-users (n = 69) were not wanting to spend money with meal delivery services (70%) and preference to cook own meals (81%). Data collection is currently ongoing. Further analysis is planned, and full results will be available by November 2024. Conclusions This study will provide a better understanding of drivers of meal delivery services use in Belgium and their potential impact on public health. Evaluating the Psychometric Properties of a Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior Identity Scale: Survey Study With Two Independent Samples of Adults in the United States.

Emerging evidence suggests a positive association between relevant aspects of one's psychological identity and physical activity engagement, but the current understanding of this relationship is primarily based on scales designed to assess identity as a person who exercises, leaving out essential aspects of physical activities (eg, incidental and occupational physical activity) and sedentary behavior. The goal of this study is to evaluate the validity of a new physical activity and sedentary behavior (PA/SB) identity scale using 2 independent samples of US adults. In study 1, participants answered 21 candidate items for the PA/SB identity scale and completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF). Study 2 participants completed the same PA/SB identity items twice over a 1-week interval and completed the IPAQ-SF at the end. We performed factor analyses to evaluate the structure of the PA/SB identity scale, evaluated convergent validity and test-retest reliability (in study 2) of the final scale scores, and examined their discriminant validity using tests for differences in dependent correlations. The final PA/SB identity measure was comprised of 3 scales: physical activity role identity (F1), physical activity belief (F2), and sedentary behavior role identity (F3). The scales had high test-retest reliability (Pearson correlation coefficient: F1, r=0.87; F2, r=0.75; F3, r=0.84; intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC]: F1: ICC=0.85; F2: ICC=0.75; F3: ICC=0.84). F1 and F2 were positively correlated with each other (study 1, r=0.76; study 2, r=0.69), while both were negatively correlated with F3 (Pearson correlation coefficient between F1 and F3: r=-0.58 for study 1 and r=-0.73 for study 2; F2 and F3: r=-0.46 for studies 1 and 2). Data from both studies also demonstrated adequate discriminant validity of the scale developed. Significantly larger correlations with time in vigorous and moderate activities and time walking and sitting assessed by IPAQ-SF with F1, compared with F2, were observed. Significantly larger correlations with time in vigorous and moderate activities with F1, compared with F3, were also observed. Similarly, a larger correlation with time in vigorous activities and a smaller correlation with time walking were observed with F2, compared with F3. This study provided initial empirical evidence from 2 independent studies on the reliability and validity of the PA/SB identity scales for adults.

Perceptions of Educators on Simultaneous Implementation of Education 5.0 and Modularisation in Higher Education Sector

The government of Zimbabwe initiated a radical higher education reform programme in 2019, culminating in the simultaneous implementation of Education 5.0 and modularization. This mixed methods study employed concurrent triangulation research design to examine the compatibility of these reforms at Chinhoyi University of Technology by surveying 32 educators from various schools. The majority of educators believed that modularization enabled students to focus on one module at a time, master the content, and utilize limited resources more effectively. Modularization also afforded educators more time for research and non-teaching activities, flexibility in teaching methods, and enhanced student-educator interaction. However, educators disagreed that modularization aligned with Education 5.0, citing concerns that it placed students in a continuous examination mode and failed to facilitate connections between module content to address societal challenges. The study concludes by recommending the realignment of teaching and learning timetables to facilitate content connections, free time for educators, and student participation in innovation and industrialization activities, thereby optimizing the simultaneous implementation of Education 5.0 and modularization.
