Concrete self-healing performance using surface roughness parameters: Metrological approach

Traditional test methods for evaluating concrete self-healing performance, such as scanning electron microscopy, ultrasonic waves including velocity pulse and emissions and x-ray imaging have limited accuracy resulting from the damages during the sample preparation and capability of the instruments. Very limited work has been performed to date to conduct non-destructive evaluations using non-contact test methods, hence obtaining three-dimensional images that can evaluate the self-healing performance in cementitious materials. This study meteorological instruments to obtain three-dimensional surface profiles without any external impacts that could potentially cause damage to the concrete surface has been used. The study aims evaluate the healing efficiency and performance of the crack at different time intervals for 28 days by using different healing agents such as microcapsules, cellulose fibre and applying sodium silicate directly on the developed crack. Healing efficiency and performance assessment is conducted through the maximum visualisation featuring, crack width, depth healed product from the contact angle. Metrological selective roughness parameters such as Sa, Sq, Vvv and Smr2 values are also used to evaluate the self-healing performance at various time intervals. A comparison of the numerically obtained data, both individually and from different surface roughness parameters, indicates that crack healing occurrences can be observed when utilizing different healing agents.

Batch Specular Plane Flatness Measurements Based on Phase Measuring Deflectometry.

Flatness is a critical parameter in the manufacturing industry, directly impacting the fit and overall product performance. As the efficiency of manufacturing continues to advance, there is an increasing demand for more accurate and efficient measurement techniques. Existing methods often struggle to strike a balance between precision and efficiency. In response, this article introduces a novel approach that is capable of achieving high-precision and rapid measurements concerning multiple surfaces. By enhancing the traditional phase measuring deflectometry (PMD) method, employing a matching technique based on polar lines and normal vector constraints to address discrete surface measurement challenges, and implementing a plane pre-positioning method to tackle low efficiency in binocular matching and solving, we successfully performed swift and synchronized measurements for a large batch of specular surfaces and obtained the three-dimensional surface profile of each measured surface. Through experimental validation, the method proposed in this paper can perform the batch measurement of specular planes while maintaining high measurement accuracy.

Influence of forming directions on surface quality of 316L produced by selective laser melting additive manufacturing

Different forming directions have significant impact on surface quality in additive manufacturing. This study is aimed at exploring how different forming directions influence surface quality in additive manufacturing (AM). First, experiments were designed to prepare 316L stainless steel by selective laser melting additive manufacturing (SLAAM) in different forming directions. Moreover, the surfaces of samples manufactured by AM were tested using a three-dimensional (3D) surface profiler and a scanning electron microscope. Furthermore, the surface quality was characterized using four parameters, maximum height, S z ; maximum valley depth, S v; standard deviation of height, S q ; and arithmetic average height, S a. The following results were obtained: (a) different forming directions corresponded closely to upper surface roughness S a values, the values of S a being 7.16 and 8.20 μm, respectively. S a was the smallest among the four parameters; it showed good stability and statistical significance. (b) In the same forming direction, the upper surface roughness values followed the order S z > S v > S q > S a. S z was the largest, exceeding 800 μm; the average value S a was the smallest, reaching 7.36 μm. The values of S q , S z and S v vary when the forming direction changed. Specifically, all of them increased when the forming direction changed from a vertical direction to planar and lateral directions in turn. (c) In different forming directions, the values of S z , S v, S q and S a varied on different surfaces but their variations were basically similar. Meanwhile, the S z , S v, S q and S a values of the free surfaces were at least ten times greater than those of the printed surface. In the SLAAM process, it was necessary to select a forming direction reasonably for parts with different dimensional parameters on each side.

Femtosecond laser micro-machining of three-dimensional surface profiles on flat single crystal sapphire

In this study, a regression model is proposed using the machine learning (ML) method for femtosecond laser micro-machining of three-dimensional (3D) surface profiles on flat single-crystal sapphire. Based on the ML regression model, a quantitative relationship is established between the femtosecond laser processing parameters and the processed 3D functional curved surface topography. The combination of laser processing parameters (i.e. laser fluence F0, hatch dh, and scanning speed v) is also optimized according to the predicted parameters (i.e. surface quality Ra, ablation depth Z, and material removal rate MRR). Finally, the optimized combination of laser processing parameters was employed to process 3D surface profiles on flat single-crystal sapphire sheets. The maximum predicted profile error of the 3D structures was approximately 12.6% without any prior optimization experiments. Both the numerical simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed ML regression model in optimizing laser processing parameter combinations to achieve the desired 3D surface geometries on single-crystal sapphire by femtosecond laser micro-machining without trial-and-error.

Optical Measurement of the Stoichiometry of Thin-Film Compounds Synthetized From Multilayers: Example of Cu(In,Ga)Se2.

The properties of centimeter-sized thin-film compound semiconductors depend upon the morphology and chemical composition of the multiple submicrometer-thick elemental and alloy precursor layers from which they are synthesized. The challenge is to characterize the individual precursor layers over these length scales during a multistep synthesis without altering or contaminating them. Conventional electron and X-ray-based morphological and compositional techniques are invasive, require preparation, and are thus incompatible with in-line synthesis processes. In a proof-of-concept study, we applied confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) as a noninvasive optical imaging technique, which measures three-dimensional surface profiles with nanoscale resolution, to this challenge. Using an array of microdots containing Cu(In,Ga)Se2 semiconductor layers for solar cells as an example, we performed CLSM correlative studies to quantify morphological and layer thickness changes during four stages of a thin-film compound synthesis. Using simple assumptions, we measured the micrometer-scale spatially resolved chemical composition of stacked precursor layers to predict the final material phases formed and predict relative device performance. The high spatial resolution, coupled with the ability to measure sizeable areas without influencing the synthesis at high speed, makes CLSM an excellent prospect for research and quality control tool for thin films.

Study on the process optimization and wear resistance of electron beam cladding AlCoCrFeNi coating on 253MA austenitic stainless steel surface

This study employs a continuous scanning electron beam to deposit AlCoCrFeNi composite cladding on the surface of 253MA austenitic stainless steel to enhance its surface properties. The characteristics were examined through a scanning electron microscope (SEM), backscattered electron diffraction (EBSD), and white light interferometric three-dimensional surface profile instrument. This study investigated the effect of electron beam process parameters on the surface organization and mechanical properties of 253MA steel. The sample surface was divided into four zones: overlay, bonding, thermal influence, and substrate, according to the results. Coarse columnar and island-shaped crystals composed the overlay zone, while equiaxed austenite grains primarily constituted the substrate. With the increase of the beam current, the microstructure's grain size decreased, the substructures increased, and the BCC phase transformed into the FCC phase. The grain size slightly decreased, substructures changed marginally, and the BCC phase increased as the scanning speed increased. Additionally, the microhardness and mechanical properties of the overlay layer increased significantly, and wear volume and wear rate decreased progressively with the increase in beam current and scanning speed. At a beam current of 18 mA and a scanning speed of 200 mm/min, the surface hardness of 253MA steel reached the maximum value of 520 HV. When the beam current was 24 mA, and the scanning speed was 200 mm/min, the wear volume and wear rate of the overlay sample were minimal, accounting for 37.4% of the original sample's, and its wear resistance was 2.67 times more than that of the substrate.

Friction and Wear Behavior of NM500 Wear-Resistant Steel in Different Environmental Media

The study aims to investigate the influence of environmental media on the friction and wear behavior of low-alloy wear-resistant steels and to provide practical references for their application. This article conducted sliding wear tests on NM500 wear-resistant steel under different loads under air atmosphere, deionized water, and 3.5 wt% NaCl solution conditions. Someone quantitatively measured the friction coefficient and wear amount of each friction pair. The present study employed scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and a white light interference three-dimensional surface profiler to analyze the surface structure, cross-sectional morphology, element distribution, and wear mechanism of the wear scars under various experimental conditions. The results show that: In deionized water, NM500 has the best wear resistance, while the dry state is the worst. The lubricating and cooling effect of the liquid, as well as the corrosive effect of the NaCl solution, play an essential role in the wear behavior of NM500. Under dry friction conditions, the wear mechanism of NM500 is principally adhesive wear, fatigue wear, and oxidation wear. In the case of wear testing in deionized water, the researchers characterized the dominant wear mechanism as adhesive wear in conjunction with fatigue wear and abrasive wear. In contrast, when they carried out the wear testing in NaCl solution, the wear mechanism was primarily driven by corrosion wear and adhesive wear, with only a minor contribution from fatigue wear.

Effect of Mechanical Vibration on Microstructure and Properties of Laser Cladding WC-Reinforced Nickel-Based Alloy Coatings

Ni-WC composite coatings on 35CrMoV alloy surface were successfully prepared by mechanical vibration field-assisted laser cladding technology. Optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to study the microstructure of the composite coatings without vibration and at different vibration frequencies; the phase composition of the cladding layer was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD); and an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) was used for elemental plane scanning analysis. The grain growth trend under different convection directions was simulated. The wear resistance and mechanical properties of the composite coating were analyzed by friction and wear testing machine, three-dimensional surface profiler, and microhardness tester. The vibration field generated by the self-improved shaking table device is used to assist laser cladding. The effect of mechanical vibration on the quality of the cladding layer was studied. The results show that compared with the coating without mechanical vibration, an appropriate increase in vibration frequency contributes to the refinement of the grains. The original coarse dendrite structure becomes a fine needle-like structure, and the fine grain size gradually decreases. The application of vibration can improve the effect of grain refinement. The vibration makes the grain size distribution more uniform and the microhardness fluctuation of the cladding layer decreases. The experimental results show that mechanical vibration can improve the microstructure uniformity of the coating by selecting suitable vibration parameters. The average friction coefficient and wear width are reduced, and the microhardness is also increased.

Viscosity Variations and Tribological Performances of Oleylamine-Modified Fe3O4 Nanoparticles as Mineral Oil Additives

In order to improve the flowabilities and anti-friction and anti-wear properties of lubricants, the viscosity variations and tribological performances of oleylamine-modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles as mineral oil additives were systematically investigated via rotational parallel plate rheometer, ball–disc reciprocating tribometer, non-contact three-dimensional surface profiler, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Spherical monodisperse Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized and dispersed into mineral oils to obtain lubricants with mass fractions of 1%, 3%, 5%, 8%, 10% and 20%, respectively. These lubricants have excellent stabilities within 12 months. Interestingly, the dynamic viscosity and kinematic viscosity of the lubricants first decrease and then increase with the increase in Fe3O4 content, and the lubricants’ viscosity is at a minimum when the mass concentration is 5%. The tensile curves also show that with the mass fraction increase, the lubricants’ tackiness and adhesion have the same change law, and both reach the lowest point when the mass concentration is 5%. Meanwhile, Fe3O4 nanoparticles can improve the tribological properties of the base oils. It is worth noting that the maximum reduction in the wear volume at 25 °C is up to 93.8% compared with base oils when the additive concentration of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles is 5 wt%.

ESTABLISHMENT AND ANALYSIS OF FRACTAL CONTACT MODEL FOR POINT GRINDING PARTS

In this work, we establish a fractal contact model and analyze the effect of the parameters on stress. The study provided a method to make a link between contact characteristics and surface condition. The surface texture model was built based on the process mechanism of point grinding. The experiment for the effect of the surface texture on contour height was carried out on TR300 roughness shape-measuring instrument and the structural function method of fractal theory was used to obtain the fractal dimensions and scale coefficients of surfaces with different surface textures. The fractal contact model was established based on the fractal characteristics of the surface point ground and the simulation was carried out using Matlab. Furthermore, the validation of compression experiment was carried out by WAW-600C universal testing machine, the high-definition pictures before and after the experiment were obtained by KEYENCE VH-Z500R ultra-depth-of-field 3D microscope and the surface topographies before and after the experiment were obtained by NANOVEA PS50 three-dimensional noncontact surface profile meter. The obtained findings can help to choose appropriate surface with the best contact characteristics under certain condition.

Pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution for 3D white light scanning interferometric measurement.

White light scanning interferometry is a commonly used optical measurement method for three-dimensional (3D) surface profiles. In the case of large phase errors, accurate height values can generally be obtained indirectly from the interferometric signal envelope information derived using various envelope extraction methods. However, the current envelope extraction algorithms have the disadvantages of low robustness, increasing the half-width of the envelope information, and requiring correct parameter settings in advance. In this study, the pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution is modified and applied to white light scanning interferometric 3D measurement to avoid the above-mentioned drawbacks. Simulations and experiments are performed in a single-frequency mode (only the approximate central wave-number is used to guide both the proposed and wavelet transform methods). The simulation results prove that the proposed method has a 31.7% higher reconstruction accuracy than the wavelet transform method under a 25 dB signal to noise ratio condition. Concurrently, the proposed method is insensitive to the change in the central wavelength with a constant central wave-number parameter and has a good extraction effect for a long coherent length. The experiments measure standard step objects (VLSI standard, 1.761 ± 0.01 µm), and the reconstruction height error of the proposed method is 0.0035 µm. Simulations and experiments show that the proposed method can adaptively provide accurate envelope information after half-width reduction under the condition that only the approximate central wave-number a priori knowledge is used. Simultaneously, the proposed method is shown to be robust and effective.

Surface profile and milling force prediction for milling thin-walled workpiece based on equivalent 3D undeformed chip thickness model

With the development of the aviation manufacturing industry, the application range of thin-walled parts is rapidly increasing. Accurate machining process and surface topography prediction are the keys to ensuring machining quality. This article is based on the relative geometric relationship between the real motion trajectory of the milling cutter and the workpiece; the undeformed chip thickness equation and the two-dimensional surface contour feature algorithm are established. By introducing the parameters of milling cutter critical height, milling cutter helix angle, and lag angle parameters, the three-dimensional surface profile prediction model and the equivalent three-dimensional model considering the chip formation process are derived. And the calculation equations of the instantaneous chip cross-sectional area and the blade-workpiece contact length of the three phases of chip formation are established, respectively. The multiple linear regression method was used to fit the orthogonal test results of titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4 V, so as to complete the dynamic milling force identification, and finally establish the milling force prediction model. The accuracy of the prediction model was verified by the single factor method, and the influence of different parameters on the milling process of thin-walled parts was observed. The results show that the established model has high accuracy in predicting the surface profile and milling force of thin-walled parts. This study provides guidance for efficient prediction of the milling process of thin-walled parts.

The Mechanism of In-Situ Laser Polishing and Its Effect on the Surface Quality of Nickel-Based Alloy Fabricated by Selective Laser Melting

Laser polishing (LP) is an effective method to improve the surface quality of an additively manufactured nickel-based alloy. In this paper, the in-situ laser polishing (ILP) experiment is performed on the selective laser melting (SLM) IN718 samples. The white light interferometer is used to test the three-dimensional surface profile and surface roughness of samples. The results show that the surface quality of as-SLMed samples by ILP is improved. In particular, the surface roughness is decreased by 33.5%. To reveal the mechanism of ILP, a three-dimensional numerical model is established based on the finite volume method (FVM). The model can accurately simulate the mesoscopic scale physical phenomena when the laser interacts with the metal. The temperature field, the melt pool flow, and the evolution of the surface morphology during the ILP process are predicted using this model. The mechanism of ILP is revealed based on the dynamics of the molten pool. The contribution of capillary and thermocapillary forces to the reduction of bulge curvature at different stages is studied. Furthermore, the effect of ILP power on the surface quality is investigated, and the mechanism of bulges and depressions on the track surface during high-power ILP is revealed.

Tribocorrosion Susceptibility and Mechanical Characteristics of As-Received and Long-Term In-Vivo Aged Nickel-Titanium and Stainless-Steel Archwires.

To evaluate the effect of long-term in-vivo aging on orthodontic archwires, we aimed to assess the triboelectrochemical and mechanical characteristics of as-received and in-vivo aged nickel-titanium (NiTi) and stainless-steel (SS) orthodontic archwires. Four consecutive tribocorrosion cycles on six NiTi and six SS archwires, as-received and in-vivo aged, were performed on a reciprocal tribometer. Electrochemical noise and friction coefficient measurements, three-dimensional surface profiling, and hardness measurements were performed. Repassivation times of as-received archwires were longer than of the in-vivo aged; however, were shorter for NiTi. Friction coefficients were higher for NiTi than for SS archwires. Sudden major current drops concomitant with inverse potential shifts and friction coefficients’ fluctuations, were seen for as-received (last cycle) and in-vivo aged (last three cycles) NiTi archwires. More pronounced tribocorrosion damage was observed on in-vivo aged NiTi than on other archwires. Hardness was generally higher inside the wear track of archwires. Long-term in-vivo exposure decreases the corrosion susceptibility of archwires, more evidently for the NiTi ones. Sudden major fluctuations in electrochemical current, potential, and friction coefficient detected for NiTi archwires, might be related to localized residual parts of the oxide layer persisting due to increased surface roughness or to phase transformations of the alloy’s crystal structure.

Biosensing, Characterization of Biosensors, and Improved Drug Delivery Approaches Using Atomic Force Microscopy: A Review

Since its invention, atomic force microscopy (AFM) has come forth as a powerful member of the “scanning probe microscopy” (SPM) family and an unparallel platform for high-resolution imaging and characterization for inorganic and organic samples, especially biomolecules, biosensors, proteins, DNA, and live cells. AFM characterizes any sample by measuring interaction force between the AFM cantilever tip (the probe) and the sample surface, and it is advantageous over other SPM and electron micron microscopy techniques as it can visualize and characterize samples in liquid, ambient air, and vacuum. Therefore, it permits visualization of three-dimensional surface profiles of biological specimens in the near-physiological environment without sacrificing their native structures and functions and without using laborious sample preparation protocols such as freeze-drying, staining, metal coating, staining, or labeling. Biosensors are devices comprising a biological or biologically extracted material (assimilated in a physicochemical transducer) that are utilized to yield electronic signal proportional to the specific analyte concentration. These devices utilize particular biochemical reactions moderated by isolated tissues, enzymes, organelles, and immune system for detecting chemical compounds via thermal, optical, or electrical signals. Other than performing high-resolution imaging and nanomechanical characterization (e.g., determining Young’s modulus, adhesion, and deformation) of biosensors, AFM cantilever (with a ligand functionalized tip) can be transformed into a biosensor (microcantilever-based biosensors) to probe interactions with a particular receptors of choice on live cells at a single-molecule level (using AFM-based single-molecule force spectroscopy techniques) and determine interaction forces and binding kinetics of ligand receptor interactions. Targeted drug delivery systems or vehicles composed of nanoparticles are crucial in novel therapeutics. These systems leverage the idea of targeted delivery of the drug to the desired locations to reduce side effects. AFM is becoming an extremely useful tool in figuring out the topographical and nanomechanical properties of these nanoparticles and other drug delivery carriers. AFM also helps determine binding probabilities and interaction forces of these drug delivery carriers with the targeted receptors and choose the better agent for drug delivery vehicle by introducing competitive binding. In this review, we summarize contributions made by us and other researchers so far that showcase AFM as biosensors, to characterize other sensors, to improve drug delivery approaches, and to discuss future possibilities.

Single-shot high speed aerial chromatic confocal metrology sensor

Chromatic confocal metrology is a widely established optical metrology technique, which allows for noncontact, high-speed three-dimensional surface profiling without the need of mechanical depth scanning. However, current methods are limited by the use of some sort of surface scanning method with mechanically moving parts. Furthermore, the setups involve a spectrometer setup, either through prisms, gratings, or multispectral cameras. This drastically limits the simultaneously measureable positions in lateral direction, as the spectrometer setup will utilize one spatial dimension for the wavelength domain. We present a method for chromatic confocal metrology that enables high-speed and high-resolution one-shot aerial surface metrology. This method is scalable with respect to measurement range in axial as well as in lateral direction and in the number of measurement points that can be measured simultaneously. After deriving the theoretical basis of the approach, a virtual optical design with a field of view of 10 mm × 10 mm and a depth range of 1.5 mm with roughly 1000 measurement points, based mainly on off-the-shelf components will be presented. This virtual system design was used to perform various simulations and explain the design process and considerations as well as the expected system response of the proposed system.

Comparative prediction of surface roughness for MAFM finished aluminium/silicon carbide/aluminium trioxide/rare earth oxides (Al/SiC/Al2O3)/REOs) composites using a Levenberg–Marquardt Algorithm and a Box–Behnken Design

The aim of the current research is to compare the surface roughness models based on the Box–Behnken Design and Levenberg–Marquardt Algorithm-based artificial neural networks. For prediction of the surface roughness of magnetic abrasive flow machining (MAFM) finished rare earth oxides (REOs) aluminium composites, Box–Behnken Design models were developed using three-level factorial design as magnetic flux density, number of cycles and extrusion pressure as process parameters. The artificial neural networks predictive models of surface roughness were developed using feed forward back propagation network procedures called the Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm. Also, an attempt has been made to compare the Levenberg–Marquardt Algorithm-based artificial neural networks and Box–Behnken Design for the modeling of surface roughness results. The value of coefficient of determination for the Box–Behnken Design model is found to be high ( R2 = 0.9737), which is an indication of good fit for the model with high significance. The percentage error for the Box–Behnken Design model is observed to be more as compared to the Levenberg–Marquardt Algorithm-based artificial neural networks model. The comparison evidently indicates that the prediction capabilities of trained artificial neural networks models are far better than the Box–Behnken Design models. Further, specimens were examined using atomic force microscopy for three-dimensional surface profiles.

Experimental Study on Micro-Grinding of Ceramics for Micro-Structuring

In this study, micro-grinding was performed to investigate the machining characteristics of alumina and zirconia. The machining of ceramics remains highly challenging owing to their properties, such as high brittleness and wear resistance, which leads to a shorter tool life and high machining costs. Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) was selected as the tool material, as it is suitable for machining hard and brittle materials, and micro-electrical discharge machining (EDM) was used to fabricate PCD micro-tools. When using a resistor-capacitor generator circuit in micro-EDM, the discharging energy is related to the working capacitance, and by controlling the working capacitance, the different edge radii and the surface roughness of the tool can be easily achieved. The feed rate, depth of cut, and rotation speed were set as experimental parameters to investigate the grinding characteristics of the ceramics. During the experiment, the grinding force and roughness of the bottom surface were monitored, and the roughness of the machined surfaces was measured using a three-dimensional surface profiler. A working capacitance of 1000 pF was used to fabricate a tool with an edge radius of 3.5 µm. The lower radius of the tool edge resulted in a decrease of the cutting force by 50% at most and a surface roughness of 19 nm Ra.

Measurement Range Expansion of Chromatic Confocal Probe with Supercontinuum Light Source

Confocal probes have been widely adopted in various industries owing to their depth-sectioning effects. A dual-detector differential chromatic confocal probe using a mode-locked femtosecond laser source is proposed herein, and the measurement range expansion of the probe using a supercontinuum light source is discussed. Supercontinuum light has an extremely wide spectrum. A simulation based on wave optics is performed to evaluate the detection sensitivity and measurable range by considering the chromatic aberration of the lens materials. Additionally, an experimental setup is constructed using a supercontinuum light source, and its feasibility is validated. A measurable range of 200 μm is adopted in the experiment, and three-dimensional surface profile measurements are performed. However, the developed confocal probe has not been used for surface topography measurements. Experiments are conducted to verify the performance of the developed probe.

Tribological Properties of ZrO2 Coating on the Ball Joint of an Axial Piston Pump in High Water-Based Emulsion Medium

This paper studies the tribological properties of the ZrO2-coated spherical joint pair of the axial piston pump in a high water-based emulsion medium. Firstly, atmospheric plasma spraying was used to prepare the ZrO2 coating on the surface of the spherical joint pair. Secondly, the tribological characteristics of the steel-steel pair and ceramic-ceramic pair were analyzed by the friction and wear testing machine under the conditions of a high water-based emulsion concentration, load size, and load frequency. White light interference three-dimensional surface profiler and scanning electron microscope were used to analyze the original and worn surfaces of the samples, and then the friction and wear of the different material pairs were discussed. The results show that the friction reduction and wear resistance of the ceramic ball joint are superior to those of the steel ball joint. When the load is 100 N, the frequency is 1 Hz, and the emulsion concentration is 5%, and the friction coefficient and wear loss of the ceramic-ceramic ball joint pair are the lowest. The emulsion concentration and load have great influence on the friction coefficient and wear amount, while the frequency has little influence on them. With increasing concentration of the emulsion, the friction coefficient decreases and tends to be stable, but with increasing of load, the friction coefficient and wear increase. The friction coefficient and wear loss of the ceramic-ceramic ball joint in pure water are 0.25 times higher than those of the steel ball joint under the same working conditions. Therefore, when the concentration of the high water-based emulsion is 5%, 100 N load, 1 Hz frequency, the ceramic-ceramic ball joints display the best friction and wear resistance of the two. The research results provide a theoretical basis for the design, manufacture, and application of the ceramic coating hydraulic components in a high water-based emulsion medium.
