The numerical stability of the types calculation schemes used to compute three-dimensional compressible flow through turbomachine blade rows is examined using one-dimensional Fourier analysis. The analysis exposes the general factors which control this stability and the mechanism by which they work. Numerical experiments show excellent agreement with the results of analysis which provides algebraic expressions for the limiting damping Q c necessary for stability numerical results indicate that the limiting Q c for a one-dimensional disturbance coincide with the values for a three-dimensional disturbance thus rendering the simple analytical results useful in practical three-dimensional applications.
