The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has exerted pressure on nations to enact new international legislation that would limit the use of certain autonomous weapons, including those under third-party control, and forbid the deployment of others. In modern times, the military is making significant investments in artificial intelligence, and there are already instances of AI being used in conflict. A number of sectors that create serious humanitarian concerns include those that the ICRC has identified as areas in which artificial intelligence is being developed for use in combat by armed actors.
