The curing kinetics and properties of self-healing and thermally conductive polymeric composites based on ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer filled with nano alumina

We have investigated a self-healing thermally conductive Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) hot melt adhesive (NAEDS, which denotes the addition of nano-alumina and disulfide bonded EVA hot melt adhesives) that can be used to effectively solve adhesive layer separation problem in photovoltaic (PV) modules and the difficulty of recycling. More specifically, we used diallyl disulfide as a cross-linking agent for EVA and alumina nanofillers as a reinforcing phase. The nano alumina filler gave the EVA better thermal conductivity. We used FTIR, SEM, and DSC to characterize and analyze NAEDS properties. The disulfide bonds in NAEDS underwent a rearrangement reaction under ultraviolet light, resulting in the self-healing of the resin (self-healing efficiency of 78.8%). The added nano alumina not only reduced the resin curing activation energy, improving its curing performance but also enhanced its thermal conductivity, achieving a 2.61 W/(m*k) thermal conductivity coefficient. The overall NAEDS performance is improved.

Rice Husk-Based Insulators: Manufacturing Process and Thermal Potential Assessment

The development of bio-insultation materials has attracted increasing attention in building energy-saving fields. In tropical and hot–humid climates, building envelope insulation is important for an energy efficient and comfortable indoor environment. In this study, several experiments were carried out on a bio-insulation material, which was prepared by using rice husk as a raw material. Square rice husk-based insultation panels were developed, considering the ASTM C-177 dimensions, to perform thermal conductivity coefficient tests. The thermal conductivity coefficient obtained was 0.073 W/(m K), which is in the range of conventional thermal insulators. In a second phase of this study, two experimental enclosures (chambers) were constructed, one with rice husk-based insulation panels and the second one without this insulation. The measures of the temperatures and thermal flows through the chambers were obtained with an electronic module based on the ARDUINO platform. This module consisted of three DS18B20 temperature sensors and four Peltier plates. Daily temperature and heat flux data were collected for the two chambers during the dry season in Panama, specifically between April and May. In the experimental chamber that did not have rice husk panel insulation on the roof, a flow of up to 28.18 W/m2 was observed, while in the chamber that did have rice husk panels, the presence of a flow toward the interior was rarely observed. The rice husk-based insulation panels showed comparable performance with conventional insulators, as a sustainable solution that takes advantage of a local resource to improve thermal comfort and the reduction of the environmental impact.

A Comparative Analysis of Low and High SiC Volume Fraction Additively Manufactured SiC/Ti6Al4V(ELI) Composites Based on the Best Process Parameters of Laser Power, Scanning Speed and Hatch Distance

Silicon carbide (SiC) exhibits intriguing thermo-physical properties such as higher heat capacity and conductivity, as well as a lower density than Ti6Al4V(ELI). These properties make SiC a good candidate for the reinforcement of Ti6Al4V(ELI) with respect to its use as a heat shield in aero turbines to increase their efficiency. The traditional materials used in aircraft structures were required to have a combination of good mechanical properties such as strength, stiffness, and hardness and low weight, as well as low thermo-physical properties such as coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and thermal conductivity. The alloy Ti6Al4V(ELI) has a density of 4.45 g/cm3, which is lower than that of structural steel (7.4 g/cm3) and higher than that of aluminium (2.5 g/cm3). Lower density benefits light weighting. Aluminium is the lightest of the traditional materials used but has relatively low strength. The CTE of SiC of 4.6 × 10−6/K is lower than that of Ti6Al4V(ELI) of 8.6 × 10−6/K, while the density of SiC of 3.21 g/cm3 is lower than that of Ti6Al4V(ELI) of 4.45 g/cm3. Therefore, from the theory of composites, SiC/Ti6Al4V(ELI) composites are expected to have lower densities and CTEs than those of Ti6Al4V(ELI), thus providing for lightweighting and less thermal related buckling or separation at their joints with carbon/epoxy resin panels. The specific strength, stiffness, and Knoop hardness of SiC of 75–490 kNm/kg, 132 MNm/kg, and 600–3800 GPa, respectively, are generally larger than those of Ti6Al4V(ELI) of 211 KNm/kg, 24 MNm/kg, and 880 GPa, respectively. Therefore, investigating reinforcement of Ti6Al4V(ELI) with SiC particles is worthwhile as it will lead to the formation of composites that are stronger, stiffer, harder, and lighter, with lower values of CTE. For additive manufacturing, this requires initial studies to optimise the process parameters of laser power and scanning speed for single tracks. To print single tracks in the present work, different laser powers ranging from 100 W to 350 W and scanning speeds ranging from 0.3 m/s to 2.7 m/s were used for different SiC volume fraction values of values. To print single layers, different values of hatch distance were used together with the best values of laser power and scanning speed determined elsewhere by the authors for different volume fractions of SiC. Through optical microscopy, the built tracks and their cross sections were examined. By using laser power and scanning speeds of 200 W and 1.2 m/s, and 150 W and 0.8 m/s, respectively, the best tracks at 5% and 10% volume fractions were obtained, whereas the best tracks at 25% volume fraction were achieved using a laser power of 200 W and a scanning speed of 0.5 m/s. Furthermore, the results showed that the maximum SiC volume percentage of 30% resulted in limited or no penetration. Therefore, it is concluded from the study that parts with improved mechanical properties can be produced at SiC volume fractions ranging from 5% to 25%, while parts produced at the high volume fraction of 30 % would have unacceptable mechanical qualities for the final part.

Spherical partial differential equation with non‐constant coefficients for modeling of nonlinear unsteady heat conduction in functionally graded materials

AbstractThe objective of this research paper is to propose an exact solution for resolving the transient conduction in a 2D sphere. The coefficients of governing equation are varied according to the material properties. The thermo‐physical properties are regarded as functions that follow a power‐law relationship concerning the radial direction. Both radial and angular thermal conductivity coefficients change with radius. Thermal boundary conditions are considered in a general state, which can cover different thermal conditions, including Dirichlet, Neumann, and Convection surface conditions. Laplace transform and Meromorphic function methods are used in the solution approach to the current unsteady problem. Two unsteady case studies with complex boundary conditions have been considered to show the credibility of the current solution. The results of both case studies have been successfully validated. The results confirm the high capability of the present solution in solving unsteady thermal problems of functionally graded materials in spherical coordinates.

Thermally conductive polymer materials with high dielectric characteristics based on oligodimethylsiloxane with terminal hydroxyl groups

The results of studying a polyfunctional heat-resistant composition based on oligodimethylsiloxane with terminal hydroxyl groups filled with boron nitride are presented. The influence of boron nitride on the physical-mechanical, thermophysical and electrical properties of the sealing composition is shown. The dependence of thermal conductivity coefficient, electrical resistivity and other characteristics on the content of the modifier has been established.

The Effect of Radiant Heat on Polystyrene Thermal Insulation Materials

As a result of the increasingly stringent energy requirements of recent years, the issue of façade thermal insulation is gaining more and more prominence. Due to these requirements, layer thickness of insulation increases, or the use of materials with a better coefficient of thermal conductivity is preferred. These requirements are met by polystyrene insulation materials. Therefore, it is extremely important to know as much as possible the behaviour of polystyrene thermal insulation under the influence of fire and radiant heat. Its regulation is not coordinated in Europe, and the effect of radiant heat is not addressed by any country’s standard. In this paper, the behaviour of polystyrene thermal insulations, which are densely used in Hungary is examined, under the influence of radiant heat.

The Impact of Volume Fraction and Nanoparticles in the Flow of Nanofluids along the Boundary Layer Over a Flat Plate

Introduction: The forced convective, steady, viscous, nonlinear boundary layer flow of a two-dimensional problem over a flat plate with heat transfer nanofluids. The flow is laminar. Two different types of nanoparticles, namely, Titanium dioxide () and Silver are used to prepare nanofluids with base fluid is chosen as water. Nanofluids has a large number of applications in the area of biomedical, cooling and tribological applications. Objectives: To study about the effect different nanoparticles and their volume fraction in the flow of nanofluids along the boundary layer over a flat plate. Analyse the changes in the viscosity, density, specific heat capacity, thermal conductivity, Prandtl number, skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number. Methods: The flow of the fluid that are governed by the PDEs that are nonlinear are transformed into the ODEs that are nonlinear by employing similarity transformations, which then solved by the use of MATLAB bvp5c solution procedure. Results: Both thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient increases with the increase in the volume fraction of the corresponding nanoparticle. Also, Silver-water nanofluid has the high thermal conductivity and heat transfer rate when compared with Titanium dioxide-water nanofluid. Conclusions: Silver water nanofluid surpasses titanium dioxide water nanofluid in terms of thermal conductivity and heat transfer rate. Moreover, the physical attributes like viscosity, density, and thermal conductivity of nanofluids escalate proportionally with the volume fraction of nanoparticles. Conversely, specific heat capacity and Prandtl number exhibit an inverse relationship with the volume fraction of nanoparticles, decreasing as it increases.

Investigation of lightweight gypsum based on montmorillonite nanoclay with enhanced insulation properties

PurposeNowadays, thermal comfort plays a prominent role in contemporary construction practices. Appropriate thermal insulation not only offers energy efficiency benefits in buildings but also enhances occupant well-being, comfort, and productivity. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the thermal properties of building materials is essential. This research aims to prepare and investigate a lightweight gypsum-based composite incorporating nano montmorillonite with advanced thermal insulation properties, considering both quality and cost-effectiveness while ensuring environmental compatibility.Design/methodology/approachThis study adopts a laboratory experimental approach. A gypsum sample (without additives) and seven samples of gypsum combined with varying percentages of sodium and calcium montmorillonite nanoclays undergo extensive testing and analysis. Subsequently, the properties of these samples are compared.FindingsThe results indicate that adding montmorillonite nanoclays to gypsum composites reduces the density of the tested samples and increases their porosity. Moreover, the thermal conductivity coefficient decreases in these samples, significantly improving the thermal insulation properties of the lightweight gypsum plaster. This improvement is more pronounced in samples containing sodium montmorillonite nanoclay compared to calcium-based samples. Additionally, the investigations reveal that compressive strength decreases with the addition of montmorillonite to the samples.Originality/valueIn this research, laboratory experiments were conducted to investigate the physical and mechanical properties of gypsum plaster with varying percentages of sodium and calcium montmorillonite nanoclays. The studied properties include density, porosity, thermal conductivity coefficient, and compressive strength. Additionally, stress-strain diagrams, elastic modulus, and initial and secondary critical stresses were analyzed for each specimen.

Boron Nitride Nanosheets: Thickness‐Related Properties and Applications

AbstractOwing to its exceptional properties and wide‐ranging potential applications from aerospace to medicine, hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN) has garnered considerable attention over the past decades. Boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs), atomically thin h‐BN, not only inherit most of the outstanding properties of h‐BN but also exhibit superior characteristics compared to their bulk counterpart due to their reduced thickness, such as special adsorption behaviors and enhanced thermal conductivity. Furthermore, BNNSs display distinct thickness‐dependent properties from graphene and other 2D materials, such as unique mechanical response under indentation. This feature article provides an overview of the thickness‐related special properties of BNNSs, primarily derived from mechanically exfoliated h‐BN single crystals. These properties span various domains, including Raman signatures, molecule adsorption‐induced conformational changes, mechanical properties, thermal conductivity, and thermal expansion coefficients. Moreover, the feature article explores the underlying mechanisms governing these atomic‐scale thickness effects. Leveraging their unique properties, the feature article investigates diverse applications of BNNSs, encompassing surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy, metal‐enhanced fluorescence, and isotropic thermal management.

Numerical Simulation of Lost-Foam Casting for Key Components of A356 Aluminum Alloy in New Energy Vehicles.

The intricate geometry and thin walls of the motor housing in new energy vehicles render it susceptible to casting defects during conventional casting processes. However, the lost-foam casting process holds a unique advantage in eliminating casting defects and ensuring the strength and air-tightness of thin-walled castings. In this paper, the lost-foam casting process of thin-walled A356 alloy motor housing was simulated using ProCAST software (2016.0). The results indicate that the filling process is stable and exhibits characteristics of diffusive filling. Solidification occurs gradually from thin to thick. Defect positions are accurately predicted. Through analysis of the defect volume range, the optimal process parameter combination is determined to be a pouring temperature of 700 °C, an interfacial heat transfer coefficient of 50, and a sand thermal conductivity coefficient of 0.5. Microscopic analysis of the motor housing fabricated using the process optimized through numerical simulations reveals the absence of defects such as shrinkage at critical locations.

The Influence of the Addition of Basalt Powder on the Properties of Foamed Geopolymers.

Geopolymers are binder materials that are produced by a chemical reaction between silica or aluminum compounds with an alkaline activating solution. Foamed geopolymer materials are increasingly being cited as a viable alternative to popular organic insulation materials. Since the foaming process of geopolymers is difficult to control, and any achievements in improving the performance of such materials are extremely beneficial, this paper presents the effect of the addition of basalt powder on the properties of foamed geopolymers. This paper presents the results of physicochemical studies of fly ash and basalt, as well as mechanical properties, thermal properties, and structure analysis of the finished foams. The scope of the tests included density tests, compressive strength tests, tests of the thermal conductivity coefficient using a plating apparatus, as well as microstructure tests through observations using light and scanning microscopy. Ground basalt was introduced in amounts ranging from 0 to 20% by mass. It was observed that the addition of basalt powder contributes to a reduction in and spheroidization of pores, which directly affect the density and pore morphology of the materials tested. The highest density of 357.3 kg/m3 was characterized by samples with a 5 wt.% basalt powder addition. Their density was 14% higher than the reference sample without basalt powder addition. Samples with 20 wt.% basalt addition had the lowest density, and the density averaged 307.4 kg/m3. Additionally, for the sample containing 5 wt.% basalt powder, the compressive strength exceeded 1.4 MPa, and the thermal conductivity coefficient was 0.1108 W/m × K. The effect of basalt powder in geopolymer foams can vary depending on many factors, such as its chemical composition, grain size, content, and physical properties. The addition of basalt above 10% causes a decrease in the significant properties of the geopolymer.

Nanodiamond Coating in Energy and Engineering Fields: Synthesis Methods, Characteristics, and Applications.

Nanodiamonds are metastable allotropes of carbon. Based on their high hardness, chemical inertness, high thermal conductivity, and wide bandgap, nanodiamonds are widely used in energy and engineering applications in the form of coatings, such as mechanical processing, nuclear engineering, semiconductors, etc., particularly focusing on the reinforcement in mechanical performance, corrosion resistance, heat transfer, and electrical behavior. In mechanical performance, nanodiamond coatings can elevate hardness and wear resistance, improve the efficiency of mechanical components, and concomitantly reduce friction, diminish maintenance costs, particularly under high-load conditions. Concerning chemical inertness and corrosion resistance, nanodiamond coatings are gradually becoming the preferred manufacturing material or surface modification material for equipment in harsh environments. As for heat transfer, the extremely high coefficient of thermal conductivity of nanodiamond coatings makes them one of the main surface modification materials for heat exchange equipment. The increase of nucleation sites results in excellent performance of nanodiamond coatings during the boiling heat transfer stage. Additionally, concerning electrical properties, nanodiamond coatings elevate the efficiency of solar cells and fuel cells, and great performance in electrochemical and electrocatalytic is found. This article will briefly describe the application and mechanism analysis of nanodiamonds in the above-mentionedfields.

PRODUCTION OF MYCELIUM-BASED COMPOSITE MATERIALS AND EVALUATION OF THERMAL INSULATION PERFORMANCE

ABSTRACT Increasing awareness of the adverse effects of materials used in the construction industry on the environment and health increases the tendency towards bio-based products based on principles such as circular economy and sustainability. Meanwhile, there is a tendency to solve the post-use waste problem and reduce carbon emissions by extending the service life of building materials or making recyclable materials widespread. Mycelium-based composites (MBC) constitute an innovative natural building material interface with the potential to be used as building insulation material. In producing MBC, a substrate is used because of the significant growth provided by lignocellulosic biomass. In this study, MBCs were produced by growing Pleurotus ostreatus on 16 substrates during a 28-day incubation period. Consequently, two composites with the best performance were selected from the preliminary research on the produced samples. It was aimed to determine the thermal, mechanical, physical properties, microstructure characterization and longterm performance of the selected composites. For this reason, thermal conductivity coefficient measurement, water absorption values, water vapor permeability, ultrasound velocity determination, mechanical strength tests and durability tests were carried out. The findings showed that composites containing beech sawdust and pulp paper had better properties than other substrates. Advanced research results showed that MBCs are promising as thermal insulation materials.

A Novel Numerical Model Considering Unsaturated Soil Properties and Computational Study on Heat and Moisture Transfer Characteristics of Helix Ground Heat Exchanger

Abstract A novel three-dimensional numerical simulation model for the helix ground heat exchanger was proposed in this paper, which takes into account unsaturated soil properties. This model is more suitable for real working conditions. To validate its accuracy, a miniature model heat transfer experimental platform was constructed. Additionally, the study conducted simulation research using three types of soil with significantly different thermal and moisture characteristics. Moreover, the comprehensive thermal conductivity and water diffusion coefficient of these three soil types were determined by relevant literature and experimental tests. The aim was to comprehensively explore the impact of different soil types on the heat and mass transfer of the helix ground heat exchanger. The results indicate that the numerical model developed in this paper accurately captures the heat and mass transfer characteristics of the helix ground heat exchanger to a certain extent. Increasing the comprehensive thermal conductivity and water diffusion coefficient of the soil can significantly enhance the heat exchange capacity of the exchanger. For instance, under sandy loam conditions, the heat exchange capacity is approximately 20.73% higher compared to clay loam conditions. The study also identifies two distinct areas around the helix ground heat exchanger: the severe change region and the soft change region. In the severe change region, there is a notable decrease in soil water content near the exchanger, which inevitably weakens the thermal conductivity of the soil. It is advised to minimize this effect through measures like active water spraying.

Effect of Process Parameters on Welding Residual Stress of 316L Stainless Steel Pipe.

316L stainless steel pipes are widely used in the storage and transportation of low-temperature media due to their excellent low-temperature mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. However, due to their low thermal conductivity and large coefficient of linear expansion, they often lead to significant welding residual tensile stress and thermal cracks in the weld seam. This also poses many challenges for their secure and reliable applications. In order to effectively control the crack defects caused by stress concentration near the heat-affected zone of the weld, this paper establishes a thermal elastoplastic three-dimensional finite element (FE) model, constructs a welding heat source, and simulates and studies the influence of process parameters on the residual stress around the pipeline circumference and axial direction in the heat-affected zone. Comparison and verification were conducted using simulation and experimental methods, respectively, proving the rationality of the finite element model establishment. The axial and circumferential residual stress distribution obtained by the simulation method did not have an average deviation of more than 30 MPa from the numerical values obtained by the experimental method. This study also considers the effects of welding energy, welding speed, and welding start position on the pipe's circumferential and axial residual stress laws. The results indicate that changes in welding energy and welding speed have almost no effect on the longitudinal residual stress but have a more significant effect on the transverse residual stress. The maximum transverse residual stress is reached at a welding energy of 1007.4~859.3 J/mm and a welding speed of 6.6 mm/s. Various interlayer arc-striking deflection angles can impact the cyclic phase angle of the transverse residual stress distribution in the seam center, but they do not alter its cyclic pattern. They do influence the amplitude and distribution of the longitudinal residual stress along the circumference. The residual stress distribution on the surface of the pipe fitting is homogenized and improved at 120°.

A waste hemp‐based biomass carbon aerogel with high fire‐resistance

AbstractTo enhance the efficient utilization of waste hemp rods, a kind of three‐dimensional (3D), mesh‐like lamellar structured hemp‐based biomass carbon aerogel (CA) was developed by freeze‐drying and subsequent high‐temperature carbonization method. The microstructure, flame resistance, thermal stability, and thermal conductivity of CA were investigated using several analytical techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), simulated combustion tests, and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). Optimum formulation yielded at an alkali treatment concentration of 20% and a carbonization temperature of 700°C, CA with a 3D network of reticulated lamellae was obtained. CA exhibited minimal values for thermal conductivity (0.06 W/m K) and thermal diffusion coefficient (0.41 mm2/s), which are indicative of superior insulative properties. Moreover, the material demonstrated remarkable thermal endurance and flame resistance, achieving a char yield of 70.03% when subjected to a temperature of 700°C in an oxidative environment.

Microstructure, Thermal and Mechanical Properties of AlN-MgO Composites Prepared by Spark Plasma Sintering

AlN-MgO composites with different compositions were prepared by spark plasma sintering, and the effects of their composition on their microstructure, thermal properties, and mechanical properties were systemically investigated. MgO compositions in the AlN-MgO composites were controlled from 20 to 80 wt%. The results indicated that a phase transition did not occur during the sintering process, and different solid solutions were formed within the MgO and AlN lattices. The AlN-MgO composites exhibited finer-grain microstructures than those of the sintered pure AlN and MgO samples. Transmission electron microscopy analysis showed that both oxygen-rich, low-density grain boundaries and clean boundaries with spinel phases were present in the composites. The sintered pure AlN sample exhibited the highest thermal conductivity (53.2 W/mK) and lowest coefficient of thermal expansion (4.47 × 10<sup>-6</sup> /K) at 100 °C. And, the sintered pure MgO sample exhibited moderate thermal conductivity (39.7 W/mK) and a high coefficient of thermal expansion (13.05 × 10<sup>-6</sup> /K). With increasing MgO contents in the AlN-MgO composites, however, the thermal conductivity of the AlN-MgO composites decreased, from 33.3 to 14.9 W/mK, while their coefficient of thermal expansion generally increased, from 6.49×10<sup>-6</sup> to 10.73×10<sup>-6</sup> /K with increasing MgO content. The composite with an MgO content of 60 wt% exhibited the best mechanical properties overall. Thus, the composition and microstructure of AlN-MgO composites have a determining effect on their thermal and mechanical properties.

Sustainable chitosan derived 3D hierarchically porous carbon aerogel toward advanced infrared-radar compatibility

Simultaneously achieving infrared-radar compatibility in one material is an important challenge for multi-spectral compatible stealth technology. Chitosan-derived three-dimensional (3D) hierarchically porous carbon aerogel can effectively solve the problem. Inspired by floors-pillars concept, this work elaborately designed and successfully fabricated 3D skeletons consisted of two-dimensional (2D) sheets and one-dimensional (1D) struts. Benefiting from esterification and directional freeze drying method, the entire network could provide sufficient space for reducing thermal conductivity and motivating dipole polarization sites. Thanks to the facile calcination process, conductive components could be obtained, which guarantee low infrared (IR) emissivity and high conduction loss performance. In this work, the as-prepared carbon aerogel with ultra-low density of 0.005 g cm−3 exhibits superb infrared stealth property. It shows a low thermal conductivity coefficient of only 0.0933 W m−1 K−1. In addition, the heating rate of the upper surface is slow when placed on a heating platform of 60 °C. The relevant IR emissivity value is as low as 0.563 in 3–5 μm band and 0.432 in 8–14 μm band. Under relatively thin thicknesses, the prominent radar stealth performance including the optimum reflection loss value of −75.90 dB, the maximum effective bandwidth of 3.93 GHz, and the simulated radar cross section reduction value of 27.66 dB m2, can be obtained. This study not only introduces innovative design ideas but also offers technical approaches, facilitating further development in the realm of infrared-radar compatible stealth.

Unusual heat transfer dependence on boundary scattering in very long narrow conductors

When modeling heat transfer in nanoribbons, an unusually sharp dependence of the heat flux, and, consequently, the thermal conductivity coefficient, on the degree of specularity of phonon reflection from the lateral boundaries was found. From numerical calculations, it followed that the addition of minimally diffuse scattering should lead to an abrupt increase in the thermal resistance of the conductor. Given the importance of selecting optimal thermal parameters in nanotechnology, this short paper provides an analysis of the found dependencies, discusses the physical reasons for this anomalous behavior, and draws conclusions about the importance of achieving the quality of the nanoconductor interface to create thermal contacts with a given or optimal thermal conductivity.

Comprehensive assessment of thermoelectric properties in modules: Time-domain impedance spectroscopy considering heat leakage via attached lead wires

This study aimed to determine various thermoelectric properties, including the dimensionless figure of merit (zT0), resistivity (ρTE), thermal conductivity (κTE), and Seebeck coefficient (S), using a combination of 3ω and time-domain impedance spectroscopy (TDIS) methods for a thermoelectric module at absolute temperature (T0). The effective dimensionless figure of merit (zT0,eff), influenced by heat leakage through attached lead wires, was quantitatively and qualitatively assessed based on the TDIS method. The results demonstrated that zT0,eff/zT0 can be expressed as the ratio between the thermal conductance of the attached thermoelectric element and the lead wire. Thus, by considering heat leakage through the lead wire, the TDIS method can estimate not only zT0 and ρTE but also κTE and S after measuring the lead wire's thermal conductivity using the 3ω method. The study utilized a commercial Π-shaped bismuth-telluride-based thermoelectric module and derived representative values for its elements. zT0, ρTE, κTE, and |S| at 300 K were 0.871, 10.15 μΩ m, 1.71 W/mK, and 224 μV/K, respectively, consistent with previous reports on representative bismuth-telluride-based materials. In conclusion, the combination of the 3ω and TDIS methods is useful for determining all thermoelectric properties, considering heat leakage through attached lead wires.
