This paper will illustrate a possible countertransference phenomenon. Through a brief theoretical discussion, supplemented by clinical vignettes, the following position will be developed: The therapist may contribute to the patient's experience of loneliness when he or she intervenes without a recognition of self as a contributor to the interactive process.
