Moral Values in Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl

The aim of this study is to depict the moral values of Susan Caraway that turns into the name of Stargirl in Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl. Susan Caraway is a school student who wants to get popularity by the name of Stargirl. Though she gets her dream of being popular, yet, she shows her moral values to her friends. Using a qualitative descriptive method and descriptive and dramatic method as well as Robert Audi’s theory of moral values, and by explaining the main character’s moral values, quoting the related quotation in the novel about the moral values, and analyzing the quotation related to the theory, then the researcher herself as the instrument of the study finds that Susan Caraway shows her moral values such as beneficence, honesty, and gratitude. Beneficence, then, is separated into having positive thinking, being responsible, and having self-control. Honesty is performed in the form of not being a lier, whilst, gratitude is performed in the form of appreciation other’s goodness.

Nilai Moral Tokoh Utama Dalam Film Mulan Karya Niki Caro (Kajian Sosiologi Sastra)

The film Mulan by Niki Caro tells the story of the struggle of a girl named Hua Mulan who disguises herself as a man to replace her sick father by joining the military service to protect the country from attacks by the Rouran Nation based on a decree issued by the Chinese empire. This study aims to get a description of how the moral values ​​contained in the main character Mulan are reflected in every action she takes. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative because this research describes, explains and analyzes the data to answer each existing problem formulation. The data collection technique in this research was by watching the film Mulan, paying attention and recording every dialogue/sentence related to moral values. The writer then analyzes the research data based on the theory of moral values ​​which mentioned by Suseno (1987).The results of the study show that the character Mulan reflects moral values consisting of honesty, being yourself, being responsible, moral independence, moral courage, humility and criticality. As the main character, Mulan already reflects moral values that can be the basis and guide for human life in life.

Analisis Psikologi Tokoh dan Nilai Moral dalam Novel Surat Dari Bapak Karya Gol A Gong serta Pemanfaatannya sebagai Bahan Ajar di SMA

This study aims to (1) describe the psychological aspects of the main character in Gol A Gong's Novel Surat dari Bapak; (2) describe the moral values ​​in the novel Surat Dari Bapak by Gol A Gong; and (3) describe its use as teaching materials in SMA. The main character psychological theory used in this study is the psychoanalytic theory by Sigmund Freud which consists of three personality structures, namely: the id found 9 data, the ego found 4 data, and the superego found 3 data. Furthermore, the theory of moral values ​​used is the fictional assessment theory put forward by Nurgiyantoro which consists of three relations of problems in life, including the relationship between humans and oneself found 11 data which include firm stance, calm, careful, self-esteem, independent, and aware error; human relations with the social sphere found 14 data including loyalty, social care, courtesy, parental love for children, and critical; and the relationship between humans and God found 3 data including believing in the existence of God. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research subject is the novel Surat dari Bapak by Gol A Gong. The object of research is the psychology of the main character and the moral value of the novel Surat dari Bapak. The source of the data is the story description of the novel Surat dari Bapak by Gol A Gong published by Puspa Swara. This data collection technique uses observation techniques. The research instrument was a researcher assisted by a literary support book and notes. The data analysis technique uses content analysis techniques.

Nilai Moral Dalam Cerita Pendek Hasil Belajar Peserta Didik SMK N 6 Semarang

This study aims to find the moral values contained in historical themed short stories produced by students of SMK N 6 Semarang. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The theory of moral values used in this study consists of four divisions of types of moral values, namely, 1. moral values of divinity, 2. moral values of ideology and philosophy, 3. moral values of ethics and decency, and 4. moral values of discipline and law. The time for collecting research data was in the odd semester in the learning material for writing short stories with the theme of Indonesian history in class XI fashion 2, SMK N 6 Semarang. The results of this study found various moral values contained in historical-themed short stories by students of SMK N 6 Semarang. The results of the analysis of short stories made by students of SMK N 6 Semarang, there are eleven moral values contained in them. The results of this study show that the most moral values are ethical moral values, moral moral values with 5 (five) findings of moral values, then there are ideological and philosophical values, there are 4 (four) moral values, and finally there is 1 moral value, namely moral values of divinity, discipline and law. The first short story contains the moral values of ideology and philosophy, the second short story contains the moral values of ethics and decency, the third short story contains the moral values of ideology and philosophy, the fourth short story contains the moral values of ethics and decency, the fifth short story contains the moral values of ethics and decency, the sixth short story contains moral values divine and ideological morals, the seventh short story contains moral values of ethics and decency, and the eighth short story contains moral values of discipline and law

An Analysis of Moral Values in The Alchemist Novel

Novel is a literary works that portray human life which contains cultural, moral, and educational value on its character and story. The moral values contained in the novel can provide views for the reader to be used as a basis and guide for social life where moral values will always be related to goodness, nobility of character, as well as the good and bad behavior that exists in an individual or society. The objective of the research is to find out what types of moral values contained in The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. This research used the theory of moral values by Kinnier (2000). The researcher used descriptive method to analyze the data. The subject of this research is The Alchemist novel by Paulo Coelho. The research result showed that there are 25 data which contains moral value on commitment to something greater than oneself, 6 data which contains self-respect with humility self-discipline and responsibility, 3 data which contains respect and caring for others, and 7 data which contains caring for others creatures, and environment found in sentences.

Analysis of Moral Value in the Picture Story of the Fable Edition “Our Tax” by the Directorate Of Extension, Services, and Public Relations

The purpose of this study is to describe the moral values ​​contained in the fable book "Our Taxes". The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The source of data in this study is the entire text contained in the fable book. In this study, the researcher used Sulistyorini's theory of moral values ​​as the basis for the moral values ​​to be studied. Based on the results of the analysis of moral values ​​in the fable story book "Our Taxes" contains several moral values ​​that deserve to be imitated. The first story with the title "The Bee King and a Spoon of Wisdom" contains obedience, courage, honesty, fairness, keeping promises, being careful in acting, acting, and harmony. The second story with the title “The Dog and the Rabbit” finds obedience, courage, honesty, fairness, wisdom, keeping promises, good character, careful in acting, likes to help, harmony, and likes to give advice. While the third story with the title "Ants and Crickets" was found to contain the values ​​of hard work, discipline, responsibility, independence, cooperation, and help. Thus, the existence of moral values ​​contained in the fable is very useful for readers, especially among children. In addition, the moral values ​​contained in fable stories can also overcome the moral crisis, because children's literature can provide opportunities for children as readers for moral sources.

This research discussed about the moral values as found out in the last leaf short story. Moral values were found out by using sociological theory. This research used method descriptive qualitative. This instrument used was the short story of The Last Leaf. The researcher also used other information about moral values. Researchers also use the theory of moral values in order to better know what moral values are contained in the short story of The Last Leaf. Based on the sociological approach, there are three perspectives: functional perspective, symbol perspective, conflict perspective. After analyzing the researcher found some moral values, namely Tolerance, Fairness, Belief, Kind-hearted, honesty, and responsibility.

Apie A. Smitą, A. Mainongą ir kontempliatyvųjį realizmą

Straipsnyje analizuojama A. Meinongo moralinės vertės teorija. Palyginami jo ir A. Smitho etiniai tyrinėjimai. Kaip A. Smitho „Moralinių jausmų teorija“ papildo jo ekonominius tyrinėjimus, taip A. Meinongo moralinės vertės teorija papildo „senosios austrų mokyklos“ ekonomikos moksle teorijas, besiremiančias ribinio naudingumo ekonominės vertės teorija. A. Meinongas siekė sukurti mokslinę bendrąją vertės teoriją, kurios specializuotos atšakos būtų ekonominės, moralinės ir t. t. vertės teorijos. Kitaip nei A. Smithą, A. Meinongą domina ne tiek sugebėjimo doroviškai vertinti svetimus ir savus poelgius psichinė genezė, kiek dėsniai, apibrėžiantys dorovinio vertinimo objekto dorovinės vertės dydžio priklausomybę nuo dorovinio vertinimo situaciją sudarančių aplinkybių kiekybinių charakteristikų. Eksplikuojama dorovinio vertinimo situacijos struktūra. Įvedama kontempliatyviojo ir veiksmingojo altruizmo perskyra, kurios nebuvo A. Meinongo darbuose. Bandoma sukonstruoti kontempliatyvaus altruizmo dorovinės vertės teoriją. Kontempliatyvusis altruizmas vertinamas kaip potencialus veiksmingasis altruizmas.

On Blaming

In this paper I have considered acts of blaming as an approach to a psychoanalytic contribution to a theory of moral values--a search for a way of thinking about the mental processes mediating values and valuations. Many modern philosophers do not believe their own discipline will be able to develop complete, valid, acceptable, and workable nondeistic ethical understandings alone. Psychoanalysts cannot either, but psychoanalysis can contribute necessary components in its unique understandings of mental operations. The study of blaming as a part of a larger system of values can also be an avenue to the study of intrapsychic-interactional theoretical propositions. The stability or lack of stability of the "worlds" in which we live has influences on all of us, especially those who are most vulnerable to "external" influences. Empirically, in addition to responses to immediate threats from the outside world, an internal world of blaming always remains. The self may be blamed for its failure to live up to its own standards and rules. Often this internal blaming and acceptance of the blame--thus guilt--operate unrealistically. Nevertheless, some such operations continue in even the most mature people, but in mature people it is possible to transform blaming systems into responsibility systems. Along with other transformations that accompany sublimations, the wholeness of personality can be restored in part. One of the faces of a responsibility system is turned toward inner, passionate, often contradictory animal needs which remain in us all. Unless "owned," channeled, restrained, some wishes would be externally disastrous if converted directly into behavior and personally disastrous if totally repressed instead of channeled. Not only this, their disguised expressions can again become externally harmful to oneself and others when projected outward in the form of blame. The other face is turned toward the ways the individuals' motives join (or rejoin) the affairs of the collective "other"--some of which have to do with the most transcendent qualities in man.
