"Gulabi" Portrayal in Vaidehi's "Gulabi Talkies and Short Waves": A Feministic Perspective

This study aims at analyzing the protagonist Gulabi in Vaidehi's short story "Gulabi Talkies and Short Waves" . " Gulabi Talkies and Short Waves" is one of the short stories in Vaidehi's short story collection Gulabi Talkies and Other Stories. The study tries to explore Vaidehi's style in portraying women characters showing her feminist attitude. So, the study analyses the main character in the short story Gulabi pointing out the its characteristics as an implicit and explicit influencer on the other women characters in the short story, on which this analysis sheds light on the work of Vaidehi as an Indian Feminist writer. The studies begins by introducing the Indian female novelist and short story writer Janaki Srinavasa Murthey. The study refers the historical background of feminism emergence as a movement and its emergence in literature globally and on the Indian level. The study refers to the main previous studies conducted on Vaidehi's short story collection. The study determine the methodology followed in conducting analysis of Gulabi character. The analysis of Gulabi is done in the discussion part where the character is analysed using the hints of the text of the short story. The study is concluded by a summary of the analysis result of the short story text.

PEMBELAJARAN MENULIS TEKS CERITA PENDEK DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN METODE INKUIRI BERBANTUAN MEDIA GAMBAR PADA SISWA KELAS XI SMA PLUS TAUHIDUL AFKAR CIANJUR

This study aims, 1) how the scenario and implementation of learning to write short story texts using the inquiry method assisted by image media in class XI IPA SMA Plus Tauhidul Afkar, 2) how teachers and students respond to learning to write short story texts using assisted inquiry method image media? 3) What are the difficulties experienced by class XI students of SMA Plus Tauhidul Afkar in completing short story writing tasks? Researchers for their awareness use descriptive methods. The data collection techniques are observation, documentary, interview, test, and questionnaire. Data collection was carried out by researchers, namely observation guideline sheets, recording devices, interview guideline sheets, test sheets, student activity observation sheets, and questionnaire sheets. Based on the results of data analysis on the implementation, it can be concluded that the planning and implementation of inquiry learning in writing short stories in class XI IPA for SMA Plus Tauhidul Afkar students are synchronized with the 2013 curriculum. The results obtained by students on learning to write short stories using the inquiry method are successful and can increase creativity.

Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Contectual Teaching Learning terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Siswa di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah

Current education teachers are required to work harder in improving student learning competence. This relates to how the teacher's efforts to convey learning to students. This study focuses on students' ability to write story texts using the Contextual Teaching Learning model. This research was conducted in class IV MI Qur'aniah Palembang. The research method used is a type of quantitative experimental research. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Contextual Teaching and Learning learning model on the ability to write stories. Data collection was carried out using the pretest and posttest test techniques to a predetermined sample, namely class IV students with a total of 15 students. To determine the influence between the two variables, the researchers analyzed the data by using the Paired Sample t-test using the SPSS 20 application. From the analysis, it was found that the sig value (2 t-tailed) < 0.05 was 0.000 < 0.05. In addition, a t-count of 14.480 was also obtained. t-table level of significance (α/2) equals 0.025 = 2.144. So the results of the hypothesis test are t-count values ​​> t-table values ​​(14.480 > 2.144). So it can be concluded that there is a difference in the average pretest and posttest learning outcomes and there is a difference in the frequency of pretest and posttest, which means that there is an effect of using the Contextual Teaching and Learning learning model on students' ability to write story texts.

The Effectiveness Of Using Picture Series On Students’ English Writing Skill Of Recount Text At SMA Dharma Bakti Medan

This research consist to determine the effectiveness of using picture series on students' writing skills in recount texts at SMA Dharma bakti Medan. The design of this research is experimental research. They consist of 150 students and the sample consists of 40 students then divided into two class; The experimental class of 20 students (X-IPA) was taught using serial pictures while the control class of 20 students (X-IPS) was taught without serial pictures. The research instrument used a written test, The test is to make a story text analyzing the general structure of the story text. the score of a text can be obtained from the general structure and grammatical arrangement of the text. After applying the test to the students, the writer analyzes the data using the t-test formula which is commonly used. after calculating and analyzing the data, it was concluded that the was higher than the (4.47> 1.70). it shows that there is a significant difference. The experimental pre-test score was 39 and the post-test score was 60.25, the difference was -21.25. The value of is greater than (4.47>1.70) df is 38, and the level of significance is 0.05. it is stated that the effectiveness of the use of picture series has a significant influence on students' ability to write story texts, Based on the test results above, it shows that picture series can improve students' writing skills in writing story texts. it can be concluded that this research hypothesis is accepted.

Hikayat Indarjaya sebagai Suplemen Materi Cerita Fantasi Kelas VII Kurikulum Merdeka: Analisis Ciri Cerita Fantasi dan Implementasi Pembelajarannya

This study aims to determine the suitability of Hikayat Indarjaya as a supplement to fantasy story material and describe the implementation of Hikayat Indarjaya in teaching fantasy stories for class VII SMP/MTs. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative research. The data source was Hikayat Indarjaya, the result of a study published in 1995. The instruments used to collect data were data codification guidelines, data collection rubrics, and data analysis rubrics. The results of this study state that Hikayat Indajaya corresponds to the characteristics of fantasy stories, namely (1) there are magical, mysterious, or strange events, (2) open story ideas, (3) using various settings in places and times, (4) has a unique character, (5) fictitious, and (6) the use of language. Students can be given this hikayat material to strengthen understanding and be used as a supplement to fantasy story text material either through pupuh or script summaries.

The problems faced by the students are that many teachers use traditional teaching aids, and this causes the ability of the students to comprehend the reading skill to be weak and they cannot understand the read texts. As for the objectives of the research, to know the process of teaching the skill of reading before applying the means of the text of the story in the private Islamic middle school, Nour Al-Rashad Al-Aziziya, and to know the extent of the effectiveness of using the means of the text of the story to improve the skill of reading. The research method used by the researcher was the procedural approach. To collect data, the researcher observed and provided the pre and posttest, and the researcher continued the two cycles. As for the results of the research, the process of teaching and learning the skill of reading was in agreement with the steps of applying the means of the story text and its steps. The teacher chooses the subject of the educational materials such as the reading texts, who may cut it by breaking the papers as the total number of students, and the use of the means of the text of the story in the process of teaching and learning the skill of reading is effective based on The result of the average for students from the second round obtains the criteria for the results of the completion limit, which means 86 in the percentage of 100% for the excellent.

Agency and leadership by Indigenous education workers for family-school-community engagement

This paper presents a single-site case study to explicate some of the issues that relate to developing a genuine and successful role for Indigenous education workers (IEWs) especially those who reside in remote Australian communities. It draws attention to the lost opportunities for agency and leadership in culturally relevant literacy teaching with families, schools and community. The study employs a social justice framework to explore a theory of intended change resultant from the inclusion of IEWs in a professional learning coalition of school leaders, teachers, and Indigenous elders with university researchers throughout an 18-month project. This evidence of intended change focuses on the IEWs’ display of agency in leading families and community in the production of culturally relevant story texts to support children’s reading inside and outside school. The paper contributes to a scant body of literature highlighting the valuable work conducted by IEWs, and justifies more meaningful employment and formal leadership roles in schools and in the community. This work lays the foundation for further research involving IEWs’ leadership in producing culturally relevant criteria for measuring change in children’s literacy outcomes and change in family-community engagement in children’s reading.

The value of education is not only obtained from schools but can also be obtained from various sources such as books, comics, and so on. Comics can be a source of education. Entering the digital era, the use of digital technology has become daily food. In terms of digital comics, there are many applications that provide various comic genres, including the Webtoon application which provides various comic genres that are rich in educational values. The purpose of this journal is to describe the educational values ​​contained in the digital comic series "Pupus Dropout" by Kurnia Harta Winata. The source of the data in this study was the webtoon comic "Pupus Dropout School" by Kurnia Harta Winata. The data are in the form of sentences and dialogues that describe educational values. The data collection techniques in this study were as follows: 1) reading the entire text of the comic story "Pupus Putus Sekolah" by Kurnia Harta Winata, 2) identifying data that reflects educational values ​​, and 3) recording the data that has been obtained. The data analysis techniques used in this study were as follows: 1) classifying data, 2) analyzing data, 3) interpreting data, and 4) drawing conclusions. The results obtained after analyzing educational values ​​in the digital comic series "Pupus Dropping School" by Kurnia Harta Winata are as follows: 1) The value of Religious education, 2) The value of social education, namely in the form of forgiving and respecting others, 3) The value of education character that is in the form of courage as a form of honesty and never gives up and 4) The value of moral education.

"Attention! It’s the News.” Cognitive Load and News Posts on Facebook: An Eye-tracking Study

Individuals get much of their news and information through social media. Thus, it has become crucial to evaluate how they are paying attention to and processing news content in this saturated space. The present study investigates users’ visual engagement with news posts on Facebook using cognitive load theory of attention. An eye-tracking device was used to track visual attention of N = 152 participants. Following a 3 x 2 between-subjects factorial design, we manipulated intrinsic cognitive load by varying the story topic (either health or science) and the extraneous load by varying the presentation type (text only, video only, or video with text). Cognitive load does impact attention, such that those who viewed the video with text story (high cognitive load) exhibited higher visual attention to the content. We conclude that content higher in complexity elicits more attention compared to less complex content on Facebook.

The data collection technique is carried out by downloading short stories through the Republika e-paper, then describing, analyzing, and interpreting based on critical discourse analysis techniques. The findings of this study are: there are issues of moral and gender identity that are represented by examining the linguistic level and practice of discourse. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the study of moral and gender identity can dismantle ideologies and aspects hidden in short story texts by looking at linguistic elements through modalities and metaphors; in the practical dimension of discourse shows that short stories contain elements of moral identity and gender identity in line with the vision and mission of the Republika online media that uphold human and cultural values; Factors that influence the development of moral identity and gender include internal factors, namely factors that exist within the character himself, and external factors, namely factors that exist outside the character (environment, lifestyle, friendships).

A simple, automated, speech‐based and AI‐enhanced screener for mild cognitive impairment and amyloid beta positivity

AbstractBackgroundVocal and linguistic changes in Alzheimer’s dementia have been documented. The current study assesses whether a fully automated speech‐based artificial intelligence (AI) system can detect early clinical impairment and amyloid positivity, which characterise the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s disease (AD).MethodTwo studies were completed in the UK and USA: AMYPRED‐UK (NCT04828122) and AMYPRED‐US (NCT04928976). 200 participants with established amyloid beta (Aβ) and clinical diagnostic status (97 Aβ+, 103 Aβ‐ from prior PET scan or CSF tests; 94 cognitively unimpaired (CU), 106 with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild AD) were recruited and completed automated assessments with the Automatic Story Recall Task (ASRT) either in‐clinic or via telemedicine appointment. The AI text‐pair evaluation model ParaBLEU produced vector‐based representations of the abstract, generalized patterns that differed between the original story text and transcribed retellings. These were fed into logistic regression models trained with tournament leave‐pair‐out cross‐validation analysis to predict Aβ status and MCI/mild AD. Potential benefits of screening using the ASRT system were examined via simulation, including: (1) identifying MCI in primary care, and (2) reducing the number of PET scans required in clinical research studies and trials.ResultUsing an average of only 6.56 minutes of speech per participant, the ASRT system predicted Aβ positivity in the full sample (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) = 0.77) and in diagnostic subsamples (MCI/mild AD: AUC = 0.82; CU: AUC = 0.71), as well as MCI/mild AD (AUC = 0.83) in the full sample. Simulation indicated that screening with the ASRT system could: (1) increase correct (+8.5%) and reduce incorrect referrals (‐59.1%) compared with the Mini‐Mental State Exam; and (2) enrich samples for Aβ positivity prior to PET scan (‐35.3% and ‐35.5% fewer scans required in MCI and CU individuals, respectively).ConclusionWith the first disease‐modifying treatment for AD now available, there is an urgent need for improved screening to identify individuals at risk for AD dementia. The ASRT system is a brief, effective, automated, speech‐based cognitive assessment offering scalable screening for MCI/mild AD and amyloid beta biomarker positivity.

Development of Canva-Based Digital Scrapbook Learning Media Using The ADDIE Model in Indonesian Language Learning Material Writing Short Story Text

Writing skills in Indonesian language learning include many texts. One of them is short story text. However, sometimes, learning to write short stories becomes boring. This happens if the teacher does not provide innovation and the right strategy in the learning process so that it runs effectively in accordance with the learning objectives. The development of science and technology requires teachers to be able to develop skills in making learning media. This research uses the Research and Development method and the model used is ADDIE. This research method is used to produce certain products and test the effectiveness of these products. Based on the assessment of design experts, a score of 85.71% was obtained, an assessment by media experts obtained a percentage score of 85.71%, and a material expert assessment with a percentage score of 90%. Based on the results of validation conducted by design experts and media experts, the results obtained are included in the "Very Feasible" category. Then from the results of the student response questionnaire obtained a score of 92%. The results of the assessment by media experts are 85.71%, so it can be concluded that the feasibility of Digital Scrapbook learning media on the material of writing short story text is included in the "Very Feasible" category, meaning that the development of Digital Scrapbook learning media on the material of writing short story text for students of class XI MP 1 SMK Negeri 1 Probolinggo is "Very Feasible" to be used in Indonesian language learning.

Inkulkasi Nilai Karakter dalam Teks Cerita Fantasi pada Peserta Didik

This study aims to describe the character values expressed by students in fantasy stories, describe how students express character values in fantasy stories, and describe what character values are dominant in fantasy stories. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method using a case study approach. Sources of data in this research are 30 fantasy stories of students taken according to the criteria of fantasy stories. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Keruak. Data collection techniques used are questionnaires and documentation. The result of this research is that fantasy story media is one way for teachers to implement character values and identify those character values. After being identified, there are various character values found in students' fantasy stories, namely religious character values, honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, independent, creative, democratic, curiosity, love for the homeland, friendly/communicative, peace-loving, fond of reading. , social care, and responsibility. The most dominant or most dominant character value of all students' fantasy stories is the curiosity character value as many as 18 findings. The conclusion of this research is that in the fantasy story text of students there is a content of character values.

Between Ecology and Economics: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Putri Mandalika Folklore

The purpose of this article is to discuss the positioning of the Mandalika folklore, between ecology and economics. This folklore text is described by combining Norman Fairclough’s theory and methods of critical discourse analysis (CDA) with an ecocritical perspective. In his analysis, Norman Fairclough uses a three-dimensional CDA model, namely text analysis, discursive practice, and socio-cultural practice. The results showed that in text analysis related to the analysis of language features in the form of vocabulary analysis (words and meanings) that represent the nobility, women, and the ecological system, the analysis of discursive practice interpreting the story text of Putri Mandalika is interpreted as a story text that produces tradition bau nyale. Furthermore, socio-cultural practices are related to the social relations of the people in relation to the bau nyale event being a cultural event, tourism event, and ecological event. The folklore text of Putri Mandalika presents the bau nyale festival. This celebration has an ecological and economic impact. Economically, the bau nyale festival is able to improve the people’s economy, but ecologically, the bau nyale festival can damage environmental sustainability due to the lack of public awareness of environmental care, as evidenced by leaving trash everywhere.

The Effect of Digital Stories on Primary School Students' Listening Comprehension Skills

The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of digital stories on the listening comprehension skills of primary school 4th grade students. For this purpose, the research has carried out with a quasi-experimental design with pre-test post-test control group. The sample of the research consisted of 52 students studying in two different 4th grade branches of a public primary school in the second semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. The stories transferred to digital in the research have selected from the texts in 3 different Turkish textbooks at the 4th grade level of primary school published by the Ministry of National Education and taught to students in previous years. 8 narrative texts from the themes of "My Beautiful Country Turkey" and "Production, Consumption and Efficiency" in the textbooks have converted into digital through digital design programs. During the implementation process, the animations of 8 stories transferred to digital have watched by the students in the experimental group, and the students in the control group have read and listened to the same story texts by the teacher. The Listening Comprehension Test has used to determine the listening comprehension achievement scores of the students in the experimental and control groups at the beginning and end of the application process. As a result of the research, it has determined that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test achievement scores of the students in the experimental group, where the stories have played digitally.

From the Malay community's point of view, the monarchy's image was depicted with idioms, which can be found in the forms of an adage, proverbs, parables and so on. In addition, this study will focus on the way of life and customs of the royal family based on the Za'ba framework. Using qualitative methods, the chosen classical text data were analysed and worked on to show the greatness of the royalties. The selection of the story text was based on the narrative that included the social structure of society and is sometimes paralogical to give the readers an idea of the greatness of each character. Thus, the beauty of idioms in the classical Malay tale showcases the viewpoint of the people towards the monarchy. It embeds them with the elements of heroism, strength, power, superiority and privilege while trying to demonstrate the wisdom of the Malays.
