Creating entrepreneurship opportunities through mobile fish retail outlets in Telangana, India

In recent decades, per capita consumption of aquatic foods has been significantly impacted by increased supplies, changing consumer preferences and technological advancements globally. To support the livelihood of the coastal communities, the Government of India has implemented schemes such as Mobile Fish Retail Outlet (MFRO) under the Blue Revolution (BR) and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSSY). MFRO is a mobile kiosk designed to deliver hygienic fresh fish and Ready to Eat (RTE) products to consumers, aimed at increasing fish consumption and providing employment to fishers. Telangana State where the highest number MFROs (150) have been sanctioned under BR scheme was chosen for a study to assess the profile of beneficiaries, operational details and constraints faced by them. Primary data were collected from 30 MFRO beneficiaries using an interview schedule. The profile of the beneficiaries revealed that 73% belong to backward caste and 87% have land holding between 0.01 to 0.02 acres. About 61% of the MFROs are run by both men and women. Results indicated a statistically significant increase in beneficiary’s income and quantity of fish sold after adoption of the MFROs. The study highlighted that MFROs have created entrepreneurship opportunities for both men and women. However, constraints like parking issues, poor battery backup and excess fuel consumption by vehicles were reported. Effect of Tillage Practices and Hydrogel Applications on Yield and Yield Attributing Traits of Maize (Zea mays L.) over the Years

This study investigated the effects of different tillage practices and hydrogel applications on maize yield in sandy loam soils at the Agricultural Research Station, Karimnagar, PJTSAU, Telangana state over a period of four years (2015-2018) during the Kharif season. The experiment was designed as a split plot with four main treatments i.e., Conventional tillage (CT), Conventional tillage with residue mulching (4 t/ha), Zero tillage (ZT) and Zero tillage with residue mulching (4 t/ha). These were combined with three sub-treatments involving hydrogel application i.e., Control (no hydrogel), Hydrogel at 2.5 kg/ha and Hydrogel at 5.0 kg/ha. The study was replicated three times to ensure reliability of the results. The combination of zero tillage with residue mulching yielded the highest maize grain yield (4435 kg/ha). This suggests that this practice is more effective in retaining soil moisture, which is critical under rainfed conditions. The addition of hydrogel, regardless of the rate (2.5 kg/ha or 5.0 kg/ha), did not lead to any significant improvement in maize yield. The use of zero tillage combined with residue mulching is beneficial for maize production in sandy loam soils under rainfed conditions, primarily due to enhanced moisture retention. However, hydrogel application did not provide any additional yield benefits in this context.

Soil Fertility Status of Paddy (Oryza Sativa L.) Growing Soils of Different Agro-climatic Zones, Telangana, India

The main occupation of Telangana State, India, is agriculture. Achieving food security requires intelligent management to increase land use productivity and production per unit area because of the expanding population and decreasing amount of agricultural land per capita. In this sense, assessing the productivity and fertility of the soil is a necessary step toward sustainable agricultural development. In the current study, paddy grown different soils in the districts of Telangana State were assessed for soil fertility using random sampling approach. This study was conducted to analyze the fertility characteristics of paddy cultivated soils in different districts of Telangana State. Collected 275 soil samples at 0-15cm depth under paddy crop grown during 2018-19 and 2019-20. The samples were found to be slightly acidic to alkaline in nature and low amount of soil organic matter. Soil nutrients such as available nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) ranged from 50-401 kg ha-1, 17-147 kg ha-1 and 60-842 kg ha-1 in red soil, 63-314 kg ha-1, 33-126 kg ha-1 and 95-460 kg ha-1 in black soil and 73-312 kg ha-1, 25-158 kg ha-1 and 153-458 kg ha-1 in alluvial soil, respectively. The paddy cultivated soil survey results conclusively indicate that the soil samples reveals normal soil reaction, electrical conductivity and low organic carbon (0.48% average) and widespread low nitrogen levels (91% of samples). Conversely, phosphorus availability is high (82% of samples) with an average content of 82 kg P2O5 ha-1, and potassium levels are notably elevated (57%).

Impact of Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on Promotion of Pulse Crops in Farmers Fields of Telangana, India

Cluster Frontline Demonstrations (CFLDs) were conducted in Nagarkurnool district of Telangana state in the operational areas KVK Palem to assess the productivity and profitability of improved rabi pulse varieties—green gram (WGG-42) and black gram (PU-31)—using scientific production technologies from 2018–19 to 2020–21. Conducted across 150 farmer fields covering 60 hectares, the demonstrations revealed average yields of 16.7 q/ha for black gram and 14.2 q/ha for green gram, representing yield increase of 15.2–16.1% and 12.5–13.8% respectively over traditional practices. The extension gap was 4.0 q/ha for black gram and 2.8 q/ha for green gram, while the technology gap was 8.3 q/ha and 7.8 q/ha, with technology indices of 33.20% and 35.61%, respectively. Economic analysis showed that the demonstrations generated significantly higher returns, with net increase of Rs. 15,365/ha for black gram and Rs. 18,785/ha for green gram, and benefit-cost ratio of 2.80 and 2.81, respectively.

The prevalent of universal corporate sectors and government initiatives in India have enhanced the service sector venture in recent years. To draw more medical tourists, the Indian government and the medical sector have substantially spent in enhancing the Indian healthcare abroad. However, it's also crucial to consider the traits of the patients who select India for their medical care. Medical Tourism in India has peculiar traits and special abilities, specialized services and platforms, expertise and well-equipped hospitals and medical staff, a culturally rich region, cutting-edge facilities, supportive individuals, and overall warmth and hospitality. Previous studies focus on the problems faced by the tourists, study in other nations and how people choose their destinations for treatments especially Americans’. With a sample of 600 respondents, the data is directly observed at the hospitals from the international patients in the six states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Pondicherry. In order to produce a unique dataset that may be utilized to address more inquiries about India's tourism in general, the study compiles data from also the other secondary sources. To study and predict patients' intentions to return to India and their loyalty, it is and to frame the hypothesis assess their opinions of the various facilities and services provided during medical tourism. Factorial analysis, a multivariate statistical technique, has been used to analyze the data and identify the top ten factors motivating the tourists to India. The current study throws light to identify the key areas on which hospitals should concentrate in order to promote medical tourism in the current, cut throat climate.

Influence of Seasons on Production Performance of Commercial Layer Chicken in Southern Region of Telangana

Background: Effective management strategies and feeding practices are essential for mitigating the challenges presented by the extreme temperatures of the summer season and the increased humidity and disease risk during the wet season. Adapting to these seasonal variations is crucial for maintaining a successful and profitable layer chicken farming. Methods: Influence of seasons (summer, rainy and winter) on production performance of layer chickens in different production cycles (Phase I, II, III and IV) was studied. The commercial layer chicken farms from southern Telangana region were selected with bird capacities ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 lakhs, rearing BV-300 breeds, aged 19-83 weeks, housed in elevated cage systems were randomly chosen. The data was collected from farm records, pre-structured questionnaires and personal interviews. Result: Summer (Phase I: 19-30 weeks) showed decreased egg production (70.57%), increased broken eggs (1.50%) and lower livability (99.95%). Egg production showed improved performance during the winter (90.22%) and rainy seasons (89.40%) in Phase II (31-50 weeks), highlighting the importance of seasonal adjustments for enhancing productivity. Phase III (51-72 weeks) also demonstrated rainy and winter seasons consistently yielding better results, with rainy season notably excelling in higher egg production (89.70%). Phase IV (72 weeks and above) highlighted winter’s superiority in egg production (79.70%) and reduced broken eggs (0.57%), emphasizing the importance of adapting poultry farming practices to mitigate the climatic variability.

Constraints in Production and Marketing in Perception of Fish Farmers and Market Intermediaries of Inland Fisheries in Khammam District of Telangana State, India

The study focuses on Khammam district in Telangana, a significant region for fish farming. Using primary data collected through personal interviews with fish farmers (60) and market intermediaries. The present study aims to identify the constraints in fish production and status of marketing using Garrett’s ranking technique. The major constraints in fish production were identified include high feed costs (Garrett score- 71.41), lack of market facilities (68.55), and inadequate capital (68.15). For marketing, addressing the key issues include high price fluctuation (60.4) in the fishes, high transportation costs (56.13), and lack of market infrastructure (53.53).These results point to important issues that must be resolved in order to increase the productivity and sustainability of fish farming and marketing. The most significant difficulties are those concerning infrastructure, such as lack of market facilities and high transportation costs, along with financial limitations like high feed costs and insufficient money. Addressing these challenges is essential for enhancing the fisheries sector contribution to food security and economic development, particularly in the regions of Khammam District in Telangana
