CAREER MANAGEMENT COMPETENCY AMONG TECHNICAL STUDENTS: IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COURSE FIELD AND UNIVERSITY

Purpose of Study: Challenge to place themselves in jobs, require graduate that have high competency in career manage- ment to compete and fulfill the human resource demand. Thus, this research is to find the different technical student in their career management competency between courses field and university. Samples are final year students from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka(UTeM), with sample size (n), are 581. A questionnaire was used as the instruments to measure the career management competency among students. The data were analyzed using an independent t-test and One Way ANOVA to answer the research questions. The finding revealed there is a significant difference in career management competency between students’ courses field, p < .05 and university, p < .05, with mean difference value =0.13. The implication of this study can give a positive picture to the student how to manage their career own then right path.
 Methodology: This study uses a quantitative approach by using survey method to answer the question of the study. The purpose of this study was to involve the views and perceptions of respondents about the career management competencies to identify the difference career management competency based on the course fields and among the final year of Engineering Technical University students.
 Results: The data obtained through this study were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. Table 1 shows the total distribution of 581 students by the university. Table 2 shows the mean score of career management competency based on seven-course fields namely FKMP, FKEE, FKAAS, FKE, FKEKK, FKP, and FKM.
 Implications/Applications: This research was conducted based on the need to review the competency to manage a career in technical university engineering students. The need to review the career management competency by identifying the differences based on career fields and universities among final year students of Engineering Technical University is based on the lack of research in the relevant field.

Penelitian pada mahasiswa Jurusan Teknik Sipil U.K.Maranatha menunjukkan sebagian besarkecenderungan gaya belajar mahasiswa adalah active–sensing (41,38%) serta visual (68,97%), kondisiini rupanya sejalan dengan penelitian yang dilakukan oleh Richard Felder sebagai pengembang ILS(Index Learning Style) terhadap mahasiswa teknik Iowa State University yang menyatakan bahwa63% mahasiswa adalah active learners, 67 % sensing learner dan 85% visual learners, kemudianpenelitian terhadap mahasiswa Michigan Tech. menunjukkan bahwa 56% active leaners, 63% sensingleaners, dan 74% visual leaners. Secara umum hasil penelitian Felder menunjukkan bahwa 64%active leaners, 63% sensing leaners, dan 82% visual leaners. Penemuan ini setidaknya bisa memberigambaran yang cukup umum bahwa mahasiswa teknik memiliki kecenderungan gaya belajar yanghampir sama dibeberapa perguruan tinggi.Mahasiswa dengan gaya belajar active-sensing-visual learners memiliki kecenderungan belajarmelalui metode praktis problem-solving, penggunaan banyak gambar, grafik, sketsa sederhana sertaaktivitas kelompok dimana mereka diberi kesempatan untuk bertukar pikiran dan bereksperimen.Hambatan pemahaman akan materi yang disampaikan terjadi ketika para mahasiswa dengankecenderungan gaya belajar seperti ini menghadapi materi mekanika rekayasa yang sulit untukdibayangkan perilakunya, bahkan untuk materi yang didalamnya terdapat persamaan-persamaanmatematis yang sederhana.Salah satu materi dasar yang diberikan pada matakuliah mekanika bahan adalah tegangan pada balokatau kolom (lentur, aksial, geser, dsb) akibat beban merata, terpusat sentris, terpusat eksentris yangmengakibatkan lentur biaksial, dsb. Penggunaan suatu software komputer berbasis perhitunganmatematis dan mampu memvisualisasikan persamaan-persamaan matematik dalam bentuk grafik baik2D atau 3D seperti MatCad atau MatLab akan sangat membantu mahasiswa memahami konsep danperilaku tegangan pada balok/kolom.Beberapa keuntungan penggunaan alat bantu ini adalah secara umum mahasiswa dapat memahamidasar teori, penurunan rumus, perilaku tegangan pada balok dengan lebih baik. Kedua, mahasiswadapat melihat suatu eksperimen sederhana mengenai perilaku tegangan pada balok dengan visualisasiyang menarik karena kemampuan software ini untuk mengupdate hasil serta tampilan grafiknya secara3 dimensi secara langsung. Ketiga, seluruh proses mulai dari dasar teori, penurunan rumus sertalatihan soal serta visualisasi grafik dapat terdokumentasi dengan baik. Keuntungan-keuntungan diatassangat membantu mahasiswa dengan gaya belajar active-sensing-visual learners yang mayoritasdimiliki oleh mahasiswa teknik sipil untuk memahami pelajaran mekanika bahan.

VLS Model for Content Words: An Experimental Study on Engineering Students in India

The resurgence of interest in vocabulary learning in the past two decades and research in Vocabulary Learning Strategies (VLS) since Schmitt’s 1997 taxonomy have yielded a few other taxonomies and strategies to enrich the vocabulary of ESL learners. However, developing a VLS taxonomy or Model in ESP context has not been focused upon though the need for it has been studied and reported. Students from vernacular medium schools in ESL and EFL countries find it difficult to learn the content in colleges due to their limited knowledge of content vocabulary. Hence a new VLS Model for content words has been designed to render linguistic assistance to them. The efficacy of the Model has been tested in the context of Engineering Science. The proposed model is unique and specific for deriving strategies to learn content vocabulary in all branches of Science and Engineering. There is scope for diachronic, synchronic, and scientific study of words through Cognitive and Metacognitive strategies. Activities generated on this Model combine decontextualized Discovery strategy and contextualized Consolidation strategy. Eighty engineering college students in India took part in the study. The experimental group which received intervention based on the VLS Model outperformed the control group in the posttest. Hence this Model is advocated for enhancing the knowledge and use of ESP vocabulary and for helping learners understand their disciplinary field. It is believed that through appropriate VLS, the learners can be empowered to be autonomous in reading.

The Usage and Upshots of Social Networking Sites: A Study among Students of Engineering Colleges in Kozhikode City, Kerala

Social Networking Sites (SNS) which is a popular mode of communication in present era is one of the well flourished tools of web 2.0 technology. It offers a varied spectrum of resources and services to the user community like messaging, blogging, sharing pictures, videos, events, interests with people in their network anywhere in the globe. It has a phenomenal influence in the political, economic, and educational domains of our social life. It has bought an evident makeover in the attitude, personality and academic performance of students who are the most ardent users of Social media. The main objective of this study is to examine the various aspects of usage of SNS like purpose and frequency, impact on academics, satisfaction level etc. Among engineering college students in the city of Kozhikode, Kerala. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from a representative sample. The study unveils that majority of students uses SNS as an interactive platform for friendly communication and academic usage is comparatively less. Awareness need to be raised for the intelligent usage of social media by educating students about the applications, benefits, and risks related with social networking sites.

Use of Electronic Resources among the Students in Engineering Colleges in Chennai: A Study

This study analyses the status of electronic resources facilities and services provided by the Engineering Colleges in Chennai. It also discusses the purpose of using e-resources, benefits, subject coverage, students satisfaction, problems that are faced by the Engineering College students while accessing e-resources .The study was limited to only four engineering colleges situated on the line to OMR road, Chennai. Majority of the students are accessing the e-resources from their Central Library followed by their home (17%), Internet centre (13%) and from their department libraries (10%). Since the student community has to depend on the e-resources for their academic endeavour, the libraries should subscribe the e-resources as per the required norms to fulfill the academic needs of the student community.

Utilization of Electronic Resources by Engineering College Students in Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu

Electronic sources like e-books, e-journals, online databases, multimedia information are becoming more popular day by day. The purpose of this study was to know the utilization of electronic resources by the usersof engineering colleges. A total of 200 respondents were selected in the engineering colleges of Kanchipuram district including the teaching faculties and students and 182 filled responds were received. The data was collected through a well-structured questionnaire.

Use of Electronic Resources by the Undergraduate Students in Private Engineering Colleges in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

The present study investigates the use of electronic resources by the undergraduate students in the private engineering colleges in Coimbatore. The study followed the questionnaire method for collecting the required information from the undergraduate students. Out of the three hundred questionnaires distributed, two hundred and fifty questionnaires were received. The study found thatmajority of the respondents were usedthe Google chrome (72.8%) and Mozilla Firefox (60.8%) web browsers and most preferred search engine is Google (88.4%). The study also found that e- books (72%), e-journals (70%) and e-thesis (64%) are the major e-resources used by respondents.

Access Usage and Design of Social Networking Sites by Sri Venkateshwara Engineering College Students, Chennai: A Study

The study high lights the use and impact of social networking sites. Data was collected by means of Questionnaire that was circulated among the Sri Venkateshwara Engineering College students randomly. The survey is about social networking’s use of access, usage, and design in creating Social Networking Sites knowledge among engineering professionals. The maximum of the respondents 50(90.03%) having a account on Face book and the minimum of 8(15.68%) of the respondents in Twitter respectively. This paper will be therefore able to review the available literature to study and present both the positive and negative impacts of online networking on the most high in demand segment of our society.

A Study on Marketing Strategy for Library Resources and Services with Special Reference to Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

This paper is to examine the marketing of Library Resources, Services and Products to the Engineering college students. This paper expounds the concept of marketing in the libraries and reveals the posture and deportment of library professionals regarding the marketing concept in India. Now a day with the help of Information technology many libraries and information centers has their own websites on which all kind of material is accessible with its bibliographic details and mechanism to promotion and marketing of services. Technology has changed the spectrum of service oriented organizations to impress, assess and quench the quests of information seekers. To harness the dynamic technological changes, it is inevitable for libraries to use social media tools for marketing their library and information science products and services. Accordingly by accepting and adopting these new means, the information hubs can outreach and tap those potential or casual information seekers who due to reluctance or any other good reason are still not approaching and using the wide array of library products and services.

Effect of motivation on oral hygiene and caries status among young adults in Hyderabad City.

Motivation is a theoretical construct used to explain behavior, it gives the reasons for people's action, desires, and needs, and it drives an individual to a certain action and determines human behavior. To determine the effect of motivation on oral hygiene and caries status among young adults in Hyderabad city. A cross-sectional study was carried out among 18-20-year-old engineering college students of Nagole Institute of Technology and Sciences. Intrinsic motivation was evaluated using a self-reported 12-item dental intrinsic motivation scale (DIM-S). The oral examination included simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S) and decayed, missing, filled teeth index (DMFT index). : Mann-Whitney U-test and ANOVA test were used for comparison among the variables included in the study. Spearman's correlation was used to correlate DIM-S with oral parameters. A total of 393 students participated in the study with majority of them being male (61.8%). It was observed that 69% of the students were extrinsically motivated and only 31% of them were intrinsically motivated. However, intrinsically motivated females had a higher significant score for calculus index-simplified and OHI-S scores. All oral parameters showed a negative correlation, except decayed component and the overall DMFT. However, no statistical significance was noticed among the variables. The present study revealed that to motivate people successfully, one not only has to give them information but also has to pay attention to the individual reasons which restrict their behavior.

Se reporta una investigación sobre la incidencia del género, del tipo de institución, pública o privada y del área científica en la dedicación a la lectura en formato impreso, en digital y en el uso de internet de 5 455 estudiantes universitarios. Se realizó un análisis correlacional y univariado para la comprobación de las hipótesis, encontrando que el uso de internet se relaciona positivamente con la dedicación a la lectura en texto impreso y con la lectura en formato digital. Se encontró, además, que la disciplina científica incide en la dedicación a la lectura impresa: los universitarios de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades de universidades públicas manifestaron el mayor número de horas de dedicación. En la lectura digital, el género, el tipo de disciplina científica y de institución incidieron en las horas de dedicación: los universitarios de sexo masculino de Ciencias Básicas e Ingeniería de universidades privadas declararon el mayor número de horas de dedicación a la lectura digital.

Prevalence and pattern of problematic internet use among engineering students from different colleges in India.

Introduction:The college students are prone to use internet in a manner that could negatively affect several aspects of their life. The present study is one of the largest studies to be undertaken in India, aimed at understanding the existing pattern of internet use and estimating the prevalence of problematic internet use (PIU) among college students.Materials and Methods:The Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (GPIUS-2) was used to assess the PIU. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to ascertain the relationship between GPIUS-2 total score and demographic and internet use-related variables.Results:Of 3973 respondents from 23 engineering colleges located in the different parts of the country, about one-fourth (25.4%) had GPIUS-2 scores suggestive of PIU. Among the variables studied, older age, greater time spent online per day, and use of internet mainly for social networking were associated with greater GPIUS-2 scores, indicating higher risk for PIU. Students who used internet mainly for academic activities and during evening hours of the day were less likely to have PIU.Conclusion:This study suggests PIU among engineering college students in India is an important public health concern. There is a need to create awareness among students, emerging adults, parents, and concerned authorities about the harms associated with PIU. Furthermore, there is a need to implement preventive strategies for inculcating pattern of safe and healthy internet usage among them. In addition, there is a need to develop public health policies for prevention and treatment of PIU and conduct further research to enhance our understanding about the same.

Cultivating Intellectual Property Education in the Electronics Engineering Curriculum: A Case Study in Integrated Circuit Design

A survey on engineering students' attitude toward intellectual property (IP) education has been conducted in several China's universities, revealing the need for more effective teaching and learning methods. To improve the students' IP awareness and the capability of innovative learning, a small module of patent and circuit design case study has been included in an engineering course, namely, radio-frequency integrated circuit (IC) design, which is offered to senior undergraduate or postgraduate students in a top engineering university in China. Along with the instruction of the RFIC design techniques, the concepts of the IP for the ICs are presented, followed by the analysis of innovative circuits to explore potential legal issues. The feedback of the students suggests that the curriculum is considerably helpful to enrich the knowledge of engineering students in both the design technique and IP awareness.

EDUCATION GAME OF CAR TRANSMISSION BASED ON ANDROID FOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING COLLEGE STUDENT

One of the method that can be used in car maintenance is Jishu Hozen that demands the driver to be able not only riding the vehicle but able to maintain it. In order to increase people understanding to Jishu Hozen method especially engineering vocational student we could use Jishu Hozen method to more enjoyable form which is in form of android-based educational game. Game can implemented android application that mostly people and college student has android mobile phone. The purpose of this research focus on to create a method in transmition maintenance using Jizhu Hosen method that implemented android-based game. To fulfil this research purpose we use Information Gathering, designing Jishu Hozen method into android base application to test it. To test the game we spread a questionnaire to 30 engineering college student. The result validity and reliability show that the game is appropriate. The result from questionnaire show that the students’ level of satisfaction upon the game is higher. Besides that, there are differences on students’ knowledge before and after using the education game that tested using paired sample t-test.

Usage of electronic devices and awareness regarding e-waste management amongst engineering college students: a cross-sectional study

Background: The total waste generated by obsolete or broken down electronic and electrical equipment was estimated to be 1,46,000 tonnes for the year 2005, which is expected to exceed 8,00,000 tonnes by 2012. However, according to the Green peace report in 2007, India generated 380,000 tonnes of e-waste. Only 3% of this made it to the authorized recyclers’ facilities.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out amongst 133 Engineering Students of Sinhgad Institute of Technology College, Lonavala, Pune which is located in a rural field practice area of Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College, Pune during the period of June 2016 to December 2016. Data was collected by using a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed by using Epi. Info 7 and appropriate statistical tests were applied.Results: Almost 125 (94%) students replaced mobile phones in last five years. Common reason for replacement was desire for newer technology by 33 (26.4%) students and need for greater functionality by 29 (23.2%). The old mobile phones were kept at home by 34 (27.2%) students, followed by dumped by 31 (24.8%), it was also noted that many students sold the mobile phones and only 8 (6.5%) were aware of the e–waste management policy.Conclusions: Most of the students replacing the mobile phones frequently but the level of awareness about the e-waste management were low, so need to increase the awareness among the users for implementation of the e waste management policy.
