Abstract Increased attention is being paid to the concept of ‘high touch’ by educator and citizen alike. The root cause ascribed to a diversity of ailments which afflict many who find themselves surrounded by increasing amounts of technology can be traced to man's earliest attempts to communicate. Recognition of cause and efforts to alleviate resultant stress are available, but to be effective individuals must not only understand the origins of the problem, they must act upon them as well. One means through which action may be taken is here offered the reader, in which those who design instructional materials and experiences must first examine what one's ‘true colours’ of processing information are.
