Lesson observation of private school classes was conducted in 352 private primary two classes in Lagos State, Nigeria. The Lesson Observation Report investigates the present teaching methods used and how effective the methods are for private schools in four LGAs (Shomolu, Alimosho, AjeromiIfelodun, and Ojo) in Lagos, Nigeria. The exercise involved Observers recording the frequency of different teacher behaviours in the classroom to obtain a statistical picture of the learning within the classroom. Research findings show minor differences between domain areas using Household Wealth Index Proxy1 and school classification (Low, Medium, and High fee schools)2 , while the proportion of teachers that use a combination of three or more teaching methods in one lesson is a big challenge. Results show that only about three out of ten teachers used at least three or more teaching methods. The key summary statement is that teachers use very few teaching methods and the study recommends improved methods of teaching through teacher training and encouraging schools to invest in the use of teaching aid. Findings show a difference particularly for medium fee schools, which are seen not to use a variety of teaching methods during instruction time.
