Examining Student Perception and Enthusiasm for The MBKM Program: A Comprehensive Study

Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) is a new policy that has not been widely understood by students. It is necessary to assess students' perceptions and interests in this policy. This study was conducted to determine the extent of student perceptions of this policy and the level of student interest in the programs offered. The stages of the research method carried out include the preparation stage, data collection stage, data processing stage, and data analysis stage. The research method used in this study is a survey method using questionnaires as a data collection tool. The respondents of this study were 232 students of the elementary school teacher education study program starting from the Class of 2020 until 2022. Data analysis techniques use descriptive analysis, categorization and cross-tabulation as well as spherman rank correlation analysis. The results showed that students' interest in participating in the MBKM program was in the medium category. Student perceptions of MBKM policies are highest in the good category, and these perceptions are related to interest in participating in the MBKM program. Meanwhile, students' perceptions of MBKM programs are in the good category and these perceptions are related to their interest in participating in the MBKM program.

The Effectiveness of Applying the Debate Method in Improving Students' Opinion Skills in PKN Class Va Subjects at Muder Teresa Catholic Elementary School, Kupang City

The Effectiveness of Applying the Debate Method in Improving Students' Opinion Skills in Civics Subjects, Class VA, Muder Teresa Catholic Elementary School, Kupang City. Thesis, Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Citra Bangsa University Kupang. Supervisors: (Yulsy Marselina Nitte, S.H., M.Pd and Asti Yunita Benu, S.Pd., M.Pd).The effectiveness of applying the debate method can improve students' ability to express opinions in Civics learning, which is one of the important subjects to be studied by students at elementary school level. It can be said that because Civics is a subject whose application is closely related to everyday life. This research aims to find out whether the application of the debate method can improve students' ability to express opinions in the Civics class VA subject at Muder Teresa Catholic Elementary School, Kupang City. This research method is a type of qualitative research with a description method. The collection instruments in this research are observation sheets, interview guides or question sheets.The results of this research show students' lack of courage in expressing their opinions. The lack of student courage is caused by several factors including internal and external factors, namely, lack of student motivation in expressing opinions, students are sometimes bored and do not pay attention to learning, students' lack of motivation when speaking in public. Meanwhile, efforts that can be made by teachers are, learning using the debate method, motivating students, debating strategies in learning so that they can help students have the courage to express their opinions.

Development of Teaching Modules Based on Multicultural Values in School-Based Management (MBS) Courses in Primary School Teacher Education Study Programs

This research aims to develop a teaching module based on multicultural values in school-based management (MBS) courses in the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program. Research and development (Research and Development) with the ADDIE model. This was done because the ADDIE model is very appropriate for developing effective educational products and learning resources. There are five stages in the ADDIE development model, namely: 1) analysis, 2) design, 3) development, 4) implementation, 5) evaluation. However, in this research the researcher will only research up to product development. The product produced in this research is a school-based management (SBM) teaching module based on multicultural values which will consist of 9 chapters. Test the practicality by giving questionnaires to respondents, both lecturers and students, so that responses are obtained regarding the usefulness and sustainability of the teaching modules during the learning process, both on a small scale and on a wider scale. Based on these calculations, the initial respondent's product validation results can be obtained, namely 92.2, adjusted to the Linkert scale table 5, which is in the range of 92.2% in the Very Practical category

An examination of Japanese curriculum materials through quantitative and covariational reasoning: the treatment of linear functions

ABSTRACT In this study, we investigated how Japanese curriculum materials represent functional relationships through the lenses of quantitative and covariational reasoning. Utilizing macro and micro analyses, we analyzed Japanese elementary and lower secondary-level curriculum materials, including course of study, teachers’ guide, and Mathematics International textbook series. We analyzed a set of statements and explanations in the course of study and the teachers’ guide. We examined tasks, questions, and representations in the textbooks. Findings showed that Japanese curriculum materials attentively focus on learners’ quantitative and covariational reasoning starting from 4th grade by the end of 8th grade. Particularly, Japanese curriculum materials have a spiral nature that supports learners’ covariational reasoning gradually building up to continuous covariation in learning functional relationships involved in proportional and linear situations. We discuss the possible implications of this study for teachers, teacher educators, curriculum developers, and textbook writers.

Elementary school teachers candidates’ perceptions of tpack ownership: Teaching assistance program

The TPACK mastery parameter signals qualified elementary school teacher candidates. The aim of the present study is to investigate a) how elementary school teacher candidates in the Teaching Assistance program perceived TPACK ownership and b) what factors influenced TPACK ownership. This is a case study for Ganesha University of Education's Elementary School Teacher Education study program in Indonesia. Mix methods were employed, with an explanatory sequential mixed method design. This study included elementary school teacher education students in semester VI who participated in the teaching assistance program. There were 174 people in total, with an 87% response rate to the questionnaire. We collected data through a questionnaire, interview, and document study. We analyzed the data to determine the percentage of quantitative data and used thematic analysis for qualitative data. The findings revealed that primary school teacher candidates' perceptions of TPACK ownership were not optimal, particularly in certain aspects that were critical for becoming teachers. This paper describes TPACK ownership in each domain, as well as factors that influenced TPACK, and gives some recommendations.

THE USE OF INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING SPEAKING SKILLS TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS

This research aims to explore innovative technology in teaching speaking skills to elementary school teacher education students in Universitas Majalengka such as mobile applications, computer software, and online platforms, which can be integrated effectively into the learning process to improve students’ speaking skills. This research covers aspects such as the teaching methods used, the most effective types of technology, challenges faced in implementation, and students' perceptions and responses to using technology in learning speaking skills. The research method used is qualitative research with a case study research design through classroom observation and interviews to determine the obstacles, strategies, and results of evaluations carried out by students. Participants in the research involved students in the elementary school teacher education study program. The research results show that innovative technology teaching speaking skills has various advantages. However, challenges must be overcome, such as limited access to technology, teacher readiness to integrate technology into teaching, and adapting the curriculum and relevant teaching methods. In conclusion, innovative technology in teaching speaking skills has great potential to improve students' speaking skills. However, efforts are needed to overcome technology-related challenges and ensure effective integration into the curriculum.

Making teacher educators’ experiences visible: seeing inside the hopeful and ambiguous dimensions of practice

ABSTRACT The field of teacher education is subject to intense scrutiny and policy reform and within this context, the voices of those working within the field are often marginalised. Drawing on our larger study of teacher educators, we addressed the key research question: “How do those who work in the field of teacher education articulate and represent the nature of their work?.” Using a fusion of arts-based and data science research methods and the theory of practice architectures, we examined the ways that teacher educators’ work is mediated within cultural-discursive, material-economic, and social-political domains. We argue that while ambiguous dimensions exist in teacher educators’ practices, they remain hopeful about their work and find spaces to create alternative sayings, doings and relatings as they prepare teachers for the profession. We contend that using both text-based and visual images facilitates the generation of enhanced meanings to highlight the complexity of teacher educators’ work to those within and outside the profession.

‘Walking out from the flat’: Pre-service English language teachers’ experiences of and needs for English as a lingua franca during study-abroad

Globalisation and internationalisation have significantly shaped the global status of English as a lingua franca (ELF). Recently, it has been argued that ELF should be understood from a multilingual perspective in English-medium instruction (EMI) education. Although EMI policy and practice have been examined and discussed in scholarship, an examination of ELF in relation to EMI is essential for bridging the gap between the policy and practice level of EMI. This qualitative study unpacked the study-abroad ELF experiences and needs for support of Chinese pre-service English language teachers after their first month of postgraduate teacher education study at a Scottish university. After thematic analysis of the focus group data, the findings revealed participants’ negativity in their daily and academic ELF experiences, though limited positive ELF experiences existed. Participants called for extra-curricular activities, a more engaging and communicative pedagogy in EMI classroom, and international student diversification and engagements with peer support in international universities. They urged curriculum innovation in English and intercultural communication education. This study sheds light on the development of curriculum, language policy, and student support in international universities. The paper ends with further insights into ELF experiences in a broader context where ELF is intertwined with EMI.

Teacher education for mathematical modelling: exploring the experiences of secondary school teachers in two courses

This paper focuses on in-service teacher education as a crucial agent in driving educational paradigm shifts for the teaching and learning of mathematical modelling. Our paper presents empirical research based on two case studies, examining training courses for in-service secondary school mathematics teachers. The first course integrates different modelling approaches, while the second one is based on the anthropological theory of the didactic and uses the proposal of the study and research paths for teacher education. Both experiences conclude with teachers working on the design of modelling tasks to be implemented in secondary schools. Both courses are analysed through the lenses of how teachers progress on the collective identification of conditions and constraints for modelling, when teachers deal with the design of modelling tasks and analyse their implementations. First, the results show the kind of modelling tasks teachers design and the level of disciplinary specificity at which they plan modelling to be implemented. Second, we analyse how teachers address the “ecological analysis”, that is, the identification of conditions and constraints that facilitate or hinder the integration of modelling in secondary school classrooms after their experiences.

Minimizing Misconceptions: Designing an Electrical and Magnetic Syllabus for Prospective Elementary School Teachers Using Predict Observe Explain-Conceptual Change Text (POE-CCT)

This study aims to 1) Obtain empirical data on the needs analysis for developing electrical and magnetic learning devices using the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) approach assisted by Conceptual Change Text (CCT), and 2) Gather comprehensive information on designing a syllabus for electricity and magnetism using POE assisted by CCT. This qualitative research focuses on the define and design stages of the 4D model and involves 30 second-semester students from the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, including 6 men and 24 women, enrolled in the Basic Science Concepts course. Data collection methods included interviews to develop and validate a product based on needs analysis, such as graduate learning outcomes related to the course, relevant study materials, learning methods, time allocation, learning resources, references, learning media, and assessment criteria. The data was analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings of this study confirm that 1) A learning tool using the POE-CCT approach is necessary to reduce misconceptions among prospective elementary school teachers, particularly in understanding the domains of electricity and magnetism, which are conceptually complex. The designed syllabus aims to address these misconceptions by incorporating POE learning tools assisted by CCT. This includes stages where students predict outcomes and reasons, observe and record their findings, and explain their observations followed by class discussions. 2) The syllabus development stage, based on needs analysis, results in POE learning tools with CCT assistance that promote independent prediction, observation, and explanation. This structured approach enhances active engagement, deeper understanding, and conceptual refinement through collaborative discourse, promising improved comprehension and retention of complex scientific concepts in the classroom.

ANALISIS DIFERENSIASI KARYA PADA KEMAMPUAN LITERASI SAINTEK MAHASISWA KEPENDIDIKAN UNIVERSITAS PGRI SEMARANG

This research aims to analyze the differentiation of works on the Scientific and Technological Literacy Abilities of PGRI Semarang University Education Students. This is because the diversity of student work is a gift in learning. Existing works must be empowered and their creativity enhanced. Differentiation of work is a form of student work that should be appreciated. The research method used in this research is a qualitative analysis method. The subjects of this research were education students at PGRI University Semarang. The research was conducted for 1 semester in two fields of study, namely the Professional Teacher Education study program and the Primary School Teacher Education study program. There are 4 success indicators used to determine the success of research. namely product quality, product reliability, team performance, product design. From these indicators, the following results were obtained: (1) product quality received a very good qualification, namely 43.56%, (2) product reliability received a very good qualification, namely 48.55%, (3) product performance received a very good qualification of 49.63%, (4) product design received very good qualifications of 37.07%. The high qualification indicators of research results can be used as a reference for the success of carrying out research activities.

Membangun Guru Literat Digital: Analisis Kemampuan Literasi Digital Mahasiswa PGSD

The era of society 5.0 demands that everyone needs digital literacy skills. This study aims to find out how students' digital literacy skills are. The research method used is descriptive quantitative. The study population was all students in semester 2 of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Education, Indonesian University of Education for the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 210 people. The research sample was 74 people obtained by using simple random sampling technique. Data was collected using a digital literacy skills questionnaire. Data analysis techniques using descriptive statistics. The results of the study showed that score respondents were 89,2% on functional skills and beyond, 40,2% students were difficult to find and select information and were good on the other six aspects of digital literacy. Based on the results of data analysis, it was concluded that the digital literacy abilities of students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Indonesian University of Education were in the "Good" category.

Analyzing Methods, Data Collection, and Trustworthiness in Self-Study Research: A Content Analysis of the First 19 Volumes of Studying Teacher Education

ABSTRACT Self-study researchers have periodically considered the essence of self-study, its objectives, its applications, and potential future trajectories. To address this imperative, our study undertakes a content analysis of the initial 19 volumes of Studying Teacher Education (STE), the flagship journal of self-study research. We focus specifically on the methodological dimensions of the scholarship featured in the journal, encompassing the spectrum of self-study methodologies employed, data collection techniques utilized, and measures of trustworthiness adopted. Through our analysis, we identify prevalent trends within each thematic domain, alongside an evolving consensus over time regarding the characteristics of high-quality self-study research. Nonetheless, we also discern persistent challenges concerning the lack of definitional precision and consistent implementation across diverse methodologies, data collection approaches, and trustworthiness measures. Echoing previous scholarship, we advocate for the establishment of a shared lexicon within the self-study community and the cultivation of explicit understandings regarding the diverse modalities of its application. Furthermore, drawing from our analysis, we introduce a typology delineating three distinct epochs of self-study research within the journal’s history while also envisioning the emergence of a fourth era poised to both reaffirm self-study’s foundational role as a form of counter-scholarship and chart innovative pathways forward.

Differentiated Science Student Worksheets : What is the Level of Collaboration Skills of Students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program?

This study aims to develop content-differentiated science student worksheets for students of the elementary school teacher education study program, especially on the subject of the human respiratory system, and analyze its effect on student collaboration skills. This research method used research and development with the 4D model (define, design, development, and dissemination). The sample in this study was 142 2nd semester students of elementary school teacher education study program at PGRI University Yogyakarta. The data was taken through student worksheets documentation, score lists, interviews, observations, validation assessment scales, and student collaboration skills questionnaires. The data analysis technique in this study used qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. Based on the research results, the student worksheets products that have been developed meet the validity criteria with an overall average of 97% in the very valid category. The validity and reliability results of the student collaboration skills questionnaire for the student worksheets developed have met the valid and reliable criteria. The results of the student collaboration skills trial given to 142 students on the developed student worksheets were the order of the number of students who always carried out collaboration skills starting from the responsible aspect (79%), the respect aspect (77%), the productive work aspect (71 %), aspects show flexibility (71%), and aspects contribute actively (38%). Meanwhile, the average number of students is 22% of students at a good level in collaborating and 78% of students are very good at collaborating.

Sexualpädagogische Professionalisierung als Aufgabe der Hochschullehre

Sexuality is a constitutive part of pedagogical practice, while sex education has been an interdisciplinary task of schooling since the 1960s (Germany) and since 1970 (Austria). Nevertheless, professionalization in sexuality education has not been implemented as a compulsory part of either education science or teacher education and other pedagogical studies. This article offers an overview of the current state of sexuality education in university teaching – including the prevention of sexual violence – by differentiating terms and task fields, introducing different approaches and discussion points as well as outlining development perspectives.

Speaking Interculturally in the Era of Global Englishes: Voices from Indonesian English Language Teacher Educators

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the Indonesian English language teacher educators’ understanding, preferences, and challenges in preparing future English teachers to be able to speak interculturally in the Global Englishes era. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework of this study emphasizes how crucial it is to comprehend both the conceptualizing intercultural speakers and the global English era to analyze intercultural speakers' competency in the global English context. Method: The study examined the issue among English language teacher educators working in a teacher education study program of a private university in West Java, Indonesia. Using open- and closed-ended questions distributed to the participants via Google Forms. Results and Discussion: The results obtained reveal that preparing future English teachers to be intercultural speakers who can teach both language and culture is urgent. Integrating cultural aspects and developing intercultural communicative competence is a must. However, teacher educators believe they are not yet ready to be globally competent and become intercultural speakers. Research Implications: This study contributes to the teacher education program by providing valuable information about effective language learning strategies, especially in teaching speaking and intercultural communication.

Analisis Kesalahan Berbahasa Indonesia Dalam Ejaan Mahasiswa Pg Paud

This research aims to analyze language errors in the spelling of preschool students. In the student's thesis abstract, writing errors were found. Students' mistakes when writing their thesis abstracts are sometimes not using the correct Indonesian spelling. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method and data collection procedure techniques in the form of observation. Based on the research results, the samples taken were 7 abstract data and student books at Medan State University, Early Childhood Education Teacher Education Study Program. In writing abstracts there is language spelling that is not correct according to the Enhanced Indonesian Spelling (EYD) guidelines, namely in the use of prepositions, use of capital letters, writing full stops, use of italics and errors in writing words. There are 7 spelling error data contained in the abstracts and PGPAUD student books. Based on the results of the discussion above, it can be concluded that the author is inaccurate in using language spelling in capital letters, italics, words with affixes, use of abbreviations, use of punctuation.

Research focuses on student learning activities. Students' scientific and technological literacy skills are needed in the current technological era. The learning process is carried out differently to obtain different learning outcomes. Implementing activities in different ways for students is the task of lecturers to improve the quality of learning in class. The differentiation process carried out includes the processes of observing, doing, and reflecting. The research method uses qualitative analysis methods. The research subjects are education students, especially elementary school teacher education study program students who are currently pursuing a professional program. The research was conducted for 1 odd semester. Research success includes four indicators: material modification, use of technology, assignments and projects, and continuous feedback. The results obtained were (1) material modification (85% very good category), (2) use of technology (92% very good category), (3) assignments and projects (89% very good category) and continuous feedback (83% % good category). Creative dance – practising and improving … what? A study in physical education teacher education

Creative dance, that is to say, movements, with or without music, which allow participants to express ideas, thoughts, and feelings, are sometimes accompanied by a ‘there is no right or wrong way to move’ rhetoric. This may reinforce the impression among physical education teacher education (PETE) students, who often have limited experience of (creative) dance, that there is nothing to practise in creative dance and that this activity is merely directionless movement. In this paper, however, based on Aggerholm's notion of practising movements, we explore an occasion in a PETE course where a magic moment occurred, indicating that the students had practised and ‘figured out’ something that made this moment possible. The purpose of the paper is to explore the knowledge in movement that PETE students were practising as they participated in creative dance. The purpose is also to shed light on what pedagogical practice contributed to enabling such practising. Video documentation and short interviews with students in one PETE course and one continuing professional development course for physical education teachers indicate that the magic moment was made possible as the students’ practised making sense of moving in non-predetermined – creative – ways and appreciating the expressive dimension of movement. Laban's movement analysis framework seemed, along with the teachers’ knowledge of movement, to be an important element in the pedagogical practice that made the magic moment possible.
