AbstractThe novel PbCrO4‐based composite pigments, X‐PbCr/CHAP (X=10, 30, 40, 50), consist of different weight percentages of PbCrO4 and carbonate hydroxyapatite (CHAP) were synthesized by sequence precipitation‐calcination process. These pigments showed significantly higher leaching stability compared with PbCrO4. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel polarization curves were used to investigate the corrosion efficiencies of the pigments. The obtained results clearly demonstrated the inhibitive action of X‐PbCr/CHAP pigments. The composite pigments showed higher corrosion resistance compared with pure PbCrO4 due to the formation of phosphate and calcium hydroxide species as a passive layer over the surface of the steel.
