Drug hypersensitivity syndrome, also called drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome) , is a severe systemic adverse drug reaction usually caused by exposure to specific drugs. Several reports have shown that after remission of DRESS syndrome, some patients developed autoimmune diseases, such as type-1 diabetes mellitus, Grave's disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, lupus erythematosus, sjogren syndrome, vitiligo, graft-versus host disease (GVHD) and other diseases. However, the exact pathogenesis of these autoimmune diseases remains unclear, and mainly involves regulatory T cell dysfunction, virus infection and autoantibody production. This review mainly summarizes DRESS syndrome-related autoimmune diseases and their pathogenesis.
