Enhancing academic and professional literacy in Swedish specialist nurse and other professional education programmes: a teacher’s perspective

This opinion piece focuses on the vital integration of academic and professional literacies in specialist nurse education and other professional education programmes within higher education in Sweden. In this opinion piece, we argue that extended learning, practise, and support can enhance the academic and professional literacy competence of specialist nurse students and other students in professional educations. To offer student specific and targeted support, educators, researchers, and policymakers can engage in collaboration, as well as inspire and empower their teachers through ongoing professional development. We also argue that the relationship between these two literacies should be highlighted in higher education to clarify the importance of academic skills within specialist nursing and other professions. We therefore suggest higher education could be more active in implementing and visualising intended learning outcomes with progression and learning activities regarding academic literacy as well as professional literacy curricula in professional educations. This approach, with an emphasis on systematic monitoring and research, ensures proficiency in effective communication, evidence-based practice, ethical responsibility, continuous learning, and quality assurance.

The Effect of Reynolds Numbers on Flow-Induced Vibrations: A Numerical Study of a Cylinder on Elastic Supports

In the field of fluid dynamics, the Reynolds number is a key parameter that influences the flow characteristics around bluff bodies. While its impact on flow around stationary cylinders has been extensively studied, systematic research into flow-induced vibrations (FIVs) under these conditions remains limited. This study utilizes numerical simulations to explore the FIV characteristics of smooth cylinders and passive turbulence control (PTC) cylinders supported elastically within a Reynolds number range from 0.8 × 104 to 1.1 × 105. By comparing the vibration responses, lift coefficients, and wake structures of these cylinders across various Reynolds numbers, this paper aims to elucidate how Reynolds numbers affect the flow and vibration characteristics of these structures. The research employs images of instantaneous lift changes and vortex shedding across multiple sections to visually demonstrate the dynamic changes in flow states. The findings are expected to provide theoretical support for optimizing structural design and vibration control strategies in high-Reynolds-number environments, emphasizing the importance of considering Reynolds numbers in structural safety and design optimization.

Approaches for Hybrid Scaling of Agile in the IT Industry: A Systematic Literature Review and Research Agenda

Agile methodologies, initially designed for the project level, face challenges when applied at enterprise levels where complex projects and diverse stakeholders are involved. To meet this challenge, several large-scale agile methodologies have been proposed. However, these approaches are not flexible enough or tailored to the needs of organizations, projects, and their teams. It is in this context that hybrid methodologies have emerged. This study aims to conduct a systematic literature review to trace the evolution of hybrid scaling of agile and characterize different approaches to implement it. This study starts by assessing 1509 studies through the use of the PRISMA 2020 framework and identifies 38 relevant studies in this field. The findings indicate that the majority of studies are from 2021 onwards and that qualitative methodologies supported by case studies predominate, making it possible to characterize tailoring processes in these organizations. Moreover, the implementation of hybrid scaling of agile is supported by the paradigm of ambidextrous strategy, a combination of agile with traditional project management methodologies, and continuous improvements. This study contributes insights into navigating the complexities of agile scaling, offering practical guidance for organizations seeking to optimize their project management practices.

New carnivorous sponges (Porifera: Cladorhizidae) from Western Australia, collected by a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).

The last two decades have reinvigorated systematic research on predatory sponges, mainly fuelled by advances in technology that have facilitated collection in deep-water habitats. This research presents six new species of carnivorous sponges from the family Cladorhizidae Dendy, 1922 from the western continental margin of Australia. The new species are Abyssocladia johnhooperi nov. sp., Abyssocladia aurora nov. sp., Abyssocladia janusi nov. sp., Axoniderma challengeri nov. sp., Cladorhiza vanessaekins nov. sp. and Nullarbora ningalooa nov. sp.. This material was collected by ROV during expeditions FK200308 to the Ningaloo Canyons expedition off the mid-west coast near Ningaloo, and FK200126 to the Southwest Australian canyons expedition, in Western Australia. These and other expeditions by the Schmidt Ocean Institute in 2020-21 formed a campaign around Australia's deep sea and mesophotic environments, which has vastly increased our understanding of biodiversity in these habitats.

Academic entrepreneurship in the humanities and social sciences: a systematic literature review and research agenda

The predominant empirical focus of academic entrepreneurship research has been in the science, technology and engineering domains. To date there has been a limited research and empirical focus on academic entrepreneurship in the humanities, arts and social sciences (HASS). This is against a background of the growing societal and policy recognition of the important contributions and impact of HASS based research. The purpose of this paper through a systematic literature review is to examine the current state of academic entrepreneurship research in HASS. Our systematic literature identified four key themes namely, actors,barriers,mechanismsandmeasurementandevaluation. From this, we develop and outline a research agenda for academic entrepreneurship in HASS.

Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy with concurrent hysterectomy or uterine preservation: A metanalysis and systematic review.

Literature is lacking strong evidence about comparisons of efficacy and quality of life-related outcomes between laparoscopic total and/or supracervical hysterectomy (LTH/LSCH) with laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (LSC) and minimally invasive sacrohysteropexy (LSH). To summarize and compare available data on this topic providing a useful clinical tool in the treatment decision process. We performed a systematic research of PubMed (MEDLINE), Web of Science, and Gooogle Scholar. We included studies that compared at least one efficacy outcome (objective or subjective outcome) between LTH/LSCH with LSC and LSH. Data on surgery-related morbidities were also extracted where available. A random-effect meta-analysis was conducted reporting pooled mean differences and odds ratios (OR) between groups using Review Manager V.7.9.0. We included a total of nine observational studies. LTH/LSCH with LSH was associated with a significantly higher objective success (apical compartment OR 7.95; 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.23-28.33; I2 = 0%; P = 0.001; anterior compartment OR 2.23; 95% CI 1.26-4.30; I2 = 12%; P = 0.007) and subjective success (OR 3.19; 95% CI 1.42-7.17; I2 = 39%; P = 0.005). No differences were found regarding intraoperative and postoperative complications, sexual dysfunction, and stress urinary incontinence rate after surgery. Hysteropexy showed shorter operative time and shorter hospital length with a pool mean difference of 27.37 min (95% CI 18.04-32.71; I2 = 0%; P < 0.001) and 0.7 days (95% CI 0.24-1.17; I2 = 75%; P = 0.003), respectively. Concurrent hysterectomy was not associated with a higher rate of mesh-related complications (P = 0.53). No major differences were found regarding recurrence and reoperation rate (P = 0.10 and P = 0.93, respectively). LTH/LSCH with LSC has better objective and subjective outcomes in pelvic organ prolapse surgery than LSH alone, especially for apical and anterior compartments, and is not associated with higher postoperative sexual dysfunction and mesh-related complications. Adequate preoperative counseling is highly recommended in patients who desire uterine preservation. CRD42024537270.

Effect of action video games in eye movement behavior: A systematic review

Previous research shows that playing action video games seems to modify the behavior of eye movements such as eye fixations and saccades. The aim of the current work was to determine the effect of playing action video games on eye movements behavior such as fixations, saccades and pursuits. A systematic research review in PubMed and Scopus databases was conducted to identify articles published between 2010 and 2022 which referred to action video games and eye movements, including fixations, saccades and pursuits. We included those that were experimental and quasi-experimental, comparing at least two groups between action vs. non-action video games players. All the studies included used an eye tracker to study eye movements. A total of 97 scientific articles were found in the databases. After inclusion criteria, thirteen articles (N=13) were analyzed for the present work, of which ten (n=10) had a cross-sectional design, and three (n=3) were randomized intervention studies. Playing regularly or training with action video games is not likely to produce changes in eye movements, based on the literature research analyzed. For future research, more interventional studies, with less gender bias, more sample participants and general consensus on the distinction between the action and non-action video games is needed.

Factors Controlling Differences in Morphology and Fractal Characteristics of Organic Pores of Longmaxi Shale in Southern Sichuan Basin, China

Shale gas is a prospective cleaner energy resource and the exploration and development of shale gas has made breakthroughs in many countries. Structure deformation is one of the main controlling factors of shale gas accumulation and enrichment in complex tectonic areas in southern China. In order to estimate the shale gas capacity of structurally deformed shale reservoirs, it is necessary to understand the systematic evolution of organic pores in the process of structural deformation. In particular, as the main storage space of high-over-mature marine shale reservoirs, the organic matter pore system directly affects the occurrence and migration of shale gas; however, there is a lack of systematic research on the fractal characteristics and deformation mechanism of organic pores under the background of different tectonic stresses. Therefore, to clarify the above issues, modular automated processing system (MAPS) scanning, low-pressure gas adsorption, quantitative evaluation of minerals by scanning (QEMSCAN), and focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) were performed and interpreted with fractal and morphology analyses to investigate the deformation mechanisms and structure of organic pores from different tectonic units in Silurian Longmaxi shale. Results showed that in stress concentration areas such as around veins or high-angle fractures, the organic pore length-width ratio and the fractal dimension are higher, indicating that the pore is more obviously modified by stress. Under different tectonic backgrounds, the shale reservoir in Weiyuan suffered severe denudation and stronger tectonic compression during burial, which means that the organic pores are dominated by long strip pores and slit-shaped pores with high fractal dimension, while the pressure coefficient in Luzhou is high and the structural compression is weak, resulting in suborbicular pores and ink bottle pores with low fractal dimension. The porosity and permeability of different forms of organic pores are also obviously different; the connectivity of honeycomb pores with the smallest fractal dimension is the worst, that of suborbicular organic pores is medium, and that of long strip organic pores with the highest fractal dimension is the best. This study provides more mechanism discussion and case analysis for the microscopic heterogeneity of organic pores in shale reservoirs and also provides a new analysis perspective for the mechanism of shale gas productivity differences in different stress–strain environments.

Seasonal Variations of Ice-Covered Lake Ecosystems in the Context of Climate Warming: A Review

The period of freezing is an important phenological characteristic of lakes in the Northern Hemisphere, exhibiting higher sensitivity to regional climate changes and aiding in the detection of Earth’s response to climate change. This review systematically examines 1141 articles on seasonal frozen lakes from 1991 to 2021, aiming to understand the seasonal variations and control conditions of ice-covered lakes. For the former, we discussed the physical structure and growth characteristics of seasonal ice cover, changes in water environmental conditions and primary production, accumulation and transformation of CO2 beneath the ice, and the role of winter lakes as carbon sources or sinks. We also proposed a concept of structural stratification based on the differences in physical properties of ice and solute content. The latter provided an overview of the ice-covered period (−1.2 d decade−1), lake evaporation (+16% by the end of the 21st century), the response of planktonic organisms (earlier spring blooming: 2.17 d year−1) to global climate change, the impact of greenhouse gas emissions on ice-free events, and the influence of individual characteristics such as depth, latitude, and elevation on the seasonal frozen lakes. Finally, future research directions for seasonally ice-covered lakes are discussed. Considering the limited and less systematic research conducted so far, this study aims to use bibliometric methods to synthesize and describe the trends and main research points of seasonal ice-covered lakes so as to lay an important foundation for scholars in this field to better understand the existing research progress and explore future research directions.

Sustainable Fashion Design: A Review and Perspective

Fashion sustainability may potentially reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change by decreasing pollution and waste. However, sustainable fashion design received little attention in recent years. Here, the existing literature (237 publications) on sustainable fashion design is synthesized to understand the trends and future directions. Sustainable fashion design lacked systematic research methodology and paid little attention to down-cycling design. The sustainable fashion design can be classified into four categories of design methods, including reducing waste, reducing environmental impacts, redesigning, and extending the lifespan of garments. Slow fashion design was dominant and the hottest research topic in the past two decades. Further studies are required to explore the methodology of remake fashion design in sustainable fashion. Overall, this study has a large contribution to the theory and applications of sustainable fashion design by establishing a comprehensive documentation library, reviewing multiple aspects of studies, understanding the trends and development, summarizing the status and hot topics, identifying research gaps, and providing future research directions

Long-term stationary fertilization decreased soil health in field-grown sweetpotato by increasing soil-borne diseases or allelochemicals

Fertilization are commonly used strategies to alleviate continuous cropping obstacles, but long-term stationary fertilization also causes varying degrees of soil barriers that hinder the growth of crop with the extension of planting years. However, there was currently a lack of systematic research on which soil properties change caused by long-term stationary fertilization were the reasons for the production obstacles in sweetpotato-planting fields. Here, soil samples from a 21-year-old continuously sweetpotato-planting field covering four fertilizations (CK: no fertilizer; M: organic manure only; NPK: chemical fertilizer only; MNPK: chemical fertilizer plus organic manure) were collected and analyzed. Compared with CK, fertilization significantly increased soil microbial biomass carbon content, the activities of urease, invertase and alkaline phosphatase, and the increase amplitudes in these indicators was the largest in MNPK. Moreover, fertilization significantly decreased the relative abundance of harmful fungi (i.e., Gibberella_avenacea, Alternaria_alternata, Mortierella_alpina, etc.) compared with CK. Especially, the relative abundance of fungal pathogens, Fusarium_oxysporum and Fusarium_proliferatum, showed a trend of MNPK<M < NPK. The abundance of plant-parasites nematodes in M and NPK were higher than that of CK, while long-term application of MNPK decreased the abundance of plant-parasites nematodes compared with CK. Suggesting that fertilization, especially applied MNPK, resulted in a faster cycling of soil nutrients and, to some extent, reduced soil fungal diseases and plant-parasites nematodes abundance, which was positively related to sweetpotato yield based on RDA analysis. However, high concentration of phenolic acids (i.e., syringic acid, syringaldehyde, vanillic acid, vanillin, ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid, etc.) were still observed in MNPK. Our results demonstrated that long-term fertilization, especially MNPK, can improve soil nutrient cycling and decrease the abundance of some harmful fungi and plant-parasites nematodes, while lead to the accumulation of phenolic acids. Therefore, the potential hazards of phenolic acids derived from long-term application of MNPK in sweetpotato-planting fields were deserved further attention.

The article focuses on foreign historiography devoted to the place and role of women in Anglo-Saxonsociety of the 7th – 11thcenturies. Based on a review of the main academic publications, three successive periods are identified: the end of the 19th – 1st half of the 20th cc. – the beginning of the study of early medieval English women as subjects of history; 1950–1980s – the beginning of systematic research in this area; the turn of the 1980–1990s to our days – a significant increase in the number of publications due to the wide use of gender methodology. While in the second period medievalists demonstrated the importance of women in Anglo-Saxon society, historians of subsequent generations sought to emphasize their suppression. It is shown that despite the extensive number of special works, in modern medieval studies there is no holistic understanding of the position of women in early medieval England.

Response and disease resistance evaluation of sorghum seedlings under anthracnose stress

Sorghum is the world’s fifth-largest cereal crop, and anthracnose (Colletotrichum sublineola) is the main disease affecting sorghum. However, systematic research on the cellular structure, physiological and biochemical, and genes related to anthracnose resistance and disease resistance evaluation in sorghum is lacking in the field. Upon inoculation with anthracnose (C. sublineola) spores, disease-resistant sorghum (gz93) developed a relative lesion area (RLA) that was significantly smaller than that of the disease-susceptible sorghum (gz234). The leaf thickness, length and profile area of leaf mesophyll cells, upper and lower epidermal cells decreased in the lesion area, with a greater reduction observed in gz234 than in gz93. The damage caused by C. sublineola resulted in a greater decrease in the net photosynthetic rate (Pn) in gz234 than in gz93, with early-stage reduction due to stomatal limitation and late-stage reduction caused by lesions. Overall, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), the content of proline (Pro), abscisic acid (ABA), jasmonic acid (JA), salicylic acid (SA), and gibberellic acid (GA3), are higher in gz93 than in gz234 and may be positively correlated with disease resistance. While malondialdehyde (MDA) may be negatively correlated with disease resistance. Disease-resistant genes are significantly overexpressed in gz93, with significant expression changes in gz234, which is related to disease resistance in sorghum. Correlation analysis indicates that GA3, MDA, peroxidase (POD), and disease-resistance genes can serve as reference indicators for disease severity. The regression equation RLA = 0.029 + 8.02 × 10−6 JA–0.016 GA3 can predict and explain RLA. Principal component analysis (PCA), with the top 5 principal components for physiological and biochemical indicators and the top 2 principal components for disease-resistant genes, can explain 82.37% and 89.11% of their total variance, reducing the number of evaluation indicators. This study provides a basis for research on the mechanisms and breeding of sorghum with resistance to anthracnose.

A Study on Printing Method of the First Edition of Kim So-wol’s Poetry Collection Azalea Flower through Image Comparison and Analysis

Two first editions of Kim So-wol’s poetry collection &lt;i&gt;Azalea Flower(진달래꽃)&lt;/i&gt;, published by Maemunsa on December 26, 1925, became registered cultural properties. The first edition was sold with a different cover through Joong Ang Seorim(中央書林) and Hanseong Book Co., Ltd.(漢城圖書株式會社). Among the poems published in the two editions, the printed image of the poem titled &lt;i&gt;Azalea Flower&lt;/i&gt;, which is the same as the title of the poetry collection, was compared and analyzed using image analysis software PicMan. As a result of image analysis, it was confirmed that the height of the area where the poem was printed was the same, but there was a difference of about 2.4% in width. We looked into the printing method to determine why the Joong Ang Seorim edition was narrow and the Hanseong Book Co., Ltd. edition was about 2.4% wider. By investigating the letterpress printing methods used for printing in the 1920s, it was assumed that the difference in printing area width was due to the difference between the platen press or flatbed press method and the rotary press printing method. The possibility of systematic research was presented by identifying various characteristics such as printing methods of modern bibliographies through image analysis.

The potential of narrative-based medicine interventions targeting hospital practitioner burnout: findings from a scoping review

ABSTRACT Purpose To map the empirical literature with regards to narrative-based medicine interventions targeting burnout in hospital-based practitioners. Methods A systematic search of electronic databases (n = 6) and manual searches was conducted informed by the Joanna Briggs Institute scoping review guidelines. Papers were independently screened for quality. Semi-structured interviews were held with practitioners to further explore the acceptability and feasibility of the interventions from the review. Results The searches yielded 4,439 articles. Following screening by title and abstract, 73 papers remained for full-text review. Six papers were included in the final analysis. Gaps were noted in relation to reporting of intervention details, and of implementation considerations across the dataset. Narrative interventions were considered acceptable by stakeholders but significant issues of compatibility and feasibility were identified. Conclusions Narrative-based interventions are complex and warrant a systematic research approach. Addressing factors related to implementation in addition to mechanisms of action is essential to progress this promising interdisciplinary knowledge base.

Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) is the most common genetic disease in the world, characterized by frequent vaso-occlusive crises that, along with extensive pathophysiology, predispose individuals to neurological events such as Stroke. Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES), on the other hand, is an uncommon manifestation resulting from vasogenic edema whose pathogenesis is not completely understood. Individuals with hemoglobinopathies have a higher chance of developing PRES; however, there are few reports in the literature on the occurrence of PRES related to SCA. The aim of the study is to report a case in which red blood cell transfusion (RBCT) was followed by PRES in a child with SCA. This is a longitudinal single-arm study with systematic research in major databases using the PICO strategy to associate the three events (SCA, RBC, PRES) with their appropriate medical descriptors. The present study evidenced most findings described in the scientific literature, reinforcing the need to expand knowledge of PRES as a differential diagnosis of neurological events in hemoglobinopathies in order to improve healthcare quality and reduce morbidity and mortality in these individuals

Dimensions of quality of life of older adults in relation to selected sociodemographic variables-a prospective cohort study.

Based on its definition of an individual's quality of life, the World Health Organization identified the following six basic domains of this concept: physical domain, psychological domain, level of independence, social relationships, environment and spirituality. The aim of the study was to examine these quality of life dimensions in pre-older and older adults in relation to selected sociodemographic variables. The study included 2,040 adults aged 55 or older. It was conducted using a diagnostic survey by means of a questionnaire with sociodemographic questions and the EQ-5D-3L descriptive system. The vast majority of male and female respondents reported no problems in most EQ-5D-3L dimensions. However, the mean EQ-5D-3L index score indicated a slight difference in scores between men and women. A statistically significant difference between male and female respondents in individual dimension scores was found only for the usual activities dimension. The proportion of respondents reporting no problems decreased with age in most dimensions, except for anxiety/depression. Age was statistically significantly correlated with all individual dimension scores and the index score. The vast majority of respondents across all education levels reported no problems in most dimensions. Education was statistically significantly correlated with all individual dimension scores and the index score. The vast majority of respondents across both sexes and all education levels reported no problems in most EQ-5D-3L dimensions. The proportion of respondents reporting no problems decreased with age in most EQ-5D-3L dimensions. Systematic research on dimensions of health-related quality of life will help design measures for healthy and successful ageing.

Recasting technocracy theory and analysis: Avenues for a critical-qualitative research framework

Technocracy strongly marks contemporary transformations of political and institutional regimes. Such increasing relevance triggered an exponential growth of dedicated research. Yet, this research often features a quantitative approach based on a reified conception of technocracy, resulting in a rationalist and functionalist perspective neglecting the political dimension. Technocracy is thus implicitly conceived as a depoliticised phenomenon deterministically set to ever-expand in democratic regimes. In contrast, this article proposes a recast of technocracy theory and analysis. First, we rethink the phenomenon of technocracy by exploring the agency of technocratic politics. Second, in epistemological and methodological terms, we lay the foundations for a systematic and robust qualitative research framework capable of tackling this form of politics by other – technocratic – means. To this end, we propose Critical Discourse Analysis as a main candidate to fulfil our theoretical-epistemic purposes, offering a detailed roadmap of a critical-qualitative approach to technocrats’ agency and discourse.

Effects of simulated warming on content, fractions and chemical structure of soil organic carbon:Progress and prospects.

Soil organic carbon (SOC) represents the largest terrestrial organic carbon pool and plays an important role in mitigating global climate change. Warming can change the stabilization process and the balance of inputs and outputs of the SOC pool, thereby affecting the content, fraction, and chemical structure of SOC. It has become a research hotspot to reveal the mechanisms underlying the effects of warming on SOC stability by analyzing the fraction and molecular structure of C. Here, we reviewed the warming effects on the SOC pool from three aspects, e.g., the content, fraction, and chemical structure of SOC. We also summarized the response of key ecosystem processes to warming, including plant productivity and community composition, microbial activity and community structure. We highlighted the importance of prospective and systematic research focusing on elucidating the microbial mechanism, identifying SOC source and turnover processes, establishing long-term dynamic networked experiments, and mining and optimizing key parameters in C cycle models. This would provide theoretical support for better understanding the change and mechanism of SOC under global warming and predicting the alterations of SOC pool under climate change.

Revealing the aromatic sonata through terpenoid profiling and gene expression analysis of aromatic and non-aromatic coconut varieties

Aromatic coconut represents an exceptional variety of coconut known for its distinct and delightful flavor and aroma, both of which are highly cherished by consumers. Despite its popularity, there has been a lack of systematic research on aroma components and the associated synthetic genes. In this report, we developed the metabolite profiles of terpenoids by targeted metabolomics and obtained the expression profile of genes related to terpenoid biosynthesis by RNA-seq during different coconut fruit developmental stages. Totally, we separated 26 different terpenoids in aromatic coconut pulp, among which, geranyl acetate and (−)-isosyngene emerged as the most abundant. The integrated analysis of metabolism and RNA-seq data showed that HMGS2, HMGS3, IPI/IDI1, HMGR1, HMGR3, and CMK2 as potentially key genes involved in the synthesis of terpenoids in aromatic coconut. To validate these findings, qRT-PCR was conducted on terpenoid-related genes. These findings lay a foundation for understanding aroma formation and the molecular mechanism of terpenoids in coconut fruit.
