Rover Inverse Simulation Using a Segmented Model Approach

Using mathematical models to simulate system responses to inputs has been shown to be an effective tool for system design and optimisation. As well as forward simulations, inverting the simulation process allows an even deeper understanding of the system and the design requirements. Presented in this paper is a method of simulation inversion known as GENISA, applied to the case of an electromechanical wheeled rover. The effect of segmenting the mathematical model used in the inverted simulation is investigated and is shown to be more efficient in terms of computational expense. This, however, comes at the cost of an increased susceptibility to chattering (i.e. sustained oscillations).

The research method used is the SLDC (System Development Life Cycle) system and the waterfall model. System analysis and design tools used in this final project are Flowmap, DFD (Data Flow Diagram), ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram), Structure Chart, and Database Relationship Schema. The results achieved by making this information system are minimizing loss or damage to evidence of transactions, simplifying the process of controlling and searching for stock items and making it easier to make purchase and sale transaction reports.

Coupled Diffusion-Binding-Deformation Modelling for Phase-Transition Microneedles-Based Drug Delivery

Phase-transition microneedles (PTMNs)-based transdermal drug delivery (TDD) is gaining popularity due to its non-invasiveness and ability to deliver a wide range of drugs. PTMNs absorb interstitial skin fluid (ISF) and transport drugs from microneedle (MNs) domain to the skin without polymer dissolution. To establish PTMNs for practical use, one needs to understand and optimise the key parameters governing drug transport mechanisms to achieve controlled drug delivery. In addressing this point, we have developed a coupled diffusion-binding-deformation model to understand the effect of physicochemical parameters (e.g., swelling capacity, drug binding) of MN and skin mechanical properties on overall drug transport behaviour. The contact mechanics at the MN and skin interface is introduced to account for the resistive force exerted by the deformed skin to MN swelling. The model is validated with the reported data of in vitro insulin delivery using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) MN. The drug binding parameters are estimated from the fitting of the cumulative release of insulin within 6 hours of MN insertion. To predict the in vivo data of insulin delivery using the PVA MN, one-compartment model of drug pharmacokinetics is incorporated. It is shown in the paper that the model is able to predict the final insulin concentration in blood and in good agreement with the reported experimental data. The proposed model is concluded to be a tool for the predictive design and development of PTMNs-based TDD systems.

Paraxial design of four-component zoom lens system with fixed distance between focal points by matrix optics

In this paper, we propose a systematic approach to design a four-component zoom system with fixed spacing between focal points based on matrix optics to achieve a relatively high zoom ratio. In the method, the zoom trajectory under each chosen paraxial design is determined through matrix method, which is challenging but meaningful to achieve a globally optimized design for the complex zoom system. The elements of the system matrix imply the working state of the optical system, and axial displacement equation for the desired zoom system are derived by restricting specific matrix elements. Properly selected trajectory of the particular component described by means of a parametric function can make the model become solvable explicitly. Then the paraxial design problem is transformed into the optimization of these parameters with regard to the merit functions encompassing the primary aberration terms, compactness, smoothness of the trajectories. We adopt Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to globally optimize the parameters to retrieve the optimum zoom trajectory in specific design criteria. The proposed method is demonstrated through two specific examples under different configurations, both of which have acquired a final zoom ratio of 8X. The simulation results demonstrate that our proposed method can be a practical and powerful tool for paraxial design of complex multi-group zoom optical systems.

Design of Web-Based Hajj Manasik Supervision Certification Information System

In the discussion of this research, the motivation to design a certification information system at the Regional Office (Kanwil) of the West Java Ministry of Religion seeks to resolve, and reduce the problem of the certification system which is not yet effective and far from efficient. The activities of implementing certification for offline (face-to-face) Hajj ritual supervisors, and processing certification data traditionally affect the results of recording certification and implementing the assessment process. Thus, the proposed system is generated through a website-based platform and is run online. The research method uses the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with the Waterfall model approach which consists of 5 stages, namely, a) Analysis b) Design c) Implementation d) Maintenance e) Planning. The programming language used is (PHP), and the database application uses a data processor (Mysql) as the database (RDBMS). In addition, to support this system design tool, it uses the UML (Unifed Modeling Language) method by using two diagrams according to design needs, namely Use Case Diagrams and Activity Diagrams. This research produces a Web-Based Certification Information System design that can simplify the certification implementation process, as well as simplify the presentation of certification data and its processing. The system of certification of Manasik Hajj supervisor have been test with a method. Black box testing is the most method to ensure the application is suitable scenario test. This Web-Based Hajj Manasik Supervisor Certification Information System at the West Java Ministry of Religion Regional Office makes it easier to improve the implementation of certification. The design of this system can reduce in addition to overcoming the obstacles of implementing certification to be more accurate.

Reliability Assessment Based on Optimal DGs Planning in the Distribution Systems

Due to increased load demands, distribution systems suffer from high power losses, low voltage levels, high current, and low reliability. To solve these problems, integrate distributed generator units (DG) into the distribution system. DG units are among the most popular methods of improving distribution system reliability, power losses, and bus voltage improvement through the placement and selection of distributed generator units in an optimal location and size. This work proposed Enhanced Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) technology to find the optimum location and size of DG units to reduce power losses, improve bus voltage level, and employed the Transient Electricity Analyzer (ETAP) to evaluate the reliability of the distribution system network. ETAP is a programming tool for modeling, analysis, design, optimization, operation, and control of electrical power systems. These findings may be useful in conducting reliability assessments and correctly utilizing dispersed generation sources for future power system growth by power utilities and power producer companies. The proposed method was employed on the Iraqi distribution system (AL-Abasia distribution network (F10 feeder)). After adding three DG units to the distribution system, theer adding three DG units to the distribution system, the obtained simulation results showed a significant reduction in power losses, voltage levels, and reliability enhancement.

Proving Simulink Block Diagrams Correct via Refinement

Simulink is a well-known block diagram-based tool for modular design and multidomain simulation of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). However, the simulation by Simulink cannot completely cover the state space or behavior of a target system, which would not ensure the correctness of the developed block diagrams in Simulink. In this work, we present a contract-based method, which supports compositional reasoning and refinement, for proving the correctness of Simulink block diagrams with discrete-time and continuous-time dynamic behavior. We use the assume-guarantee contract as a specification language. The Simulink block diagrams are correct in the sense that if the block diagrams satisfy the formal specifications of the system being modeled. To prove the correctness of a block diagram, we first define semantics for Simulink block diagrams. We study three composition operators, i.e., serial, parallel, and algebraic loop-free feedback with multistep delays. We present a satisfaction relation between the block diagram and contract and present a refinement relation between the contracts. We prove that if the Simulink block diagram satisfies the composition contract and the composition contract refines the system specifications, the block diagram is correct relative to the system specifications. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our method via a real-world case study originating from the control system of a reservoir. Our method can also provide an idea to verify whether the designed CPS is planted with a logic bomb by attackers.

Fast Design Space Exploration of Nonlinear Systems: Part I

System design tools are often only available as input–output blackboxes: for a given design as input, they compute an output representing system behavior. Blackboxes are intended to be run in the forward direction. This article presents a new method of solving the “inverse design problem,” namely, given requirements or constraints on output, find an input that also optimizes an objective function. This problem is challenging for several reasons. First, blackboxes are not designed to be run in reverse. Second, inputs and outputs can be discrete and continuous. Third, finding designs concurrently satisfying a set of requirements is hard because designs satisfying individual requirements may conflict with each other. Fourth, blackbox evaluations can be expensive. Finally, evaluations can sometimes fail to produce an output due to nonconvergence of underlying numerical algorithms. This article presents CNMA, a new method of solving the inverse problem that overcomes these challenges. CNMA tries to sample only the part of the design space relevant to solving the inverse problem, leveraging the power of neural networks, mixed-integer linear programs, and a new learning-from-failure feedback loop. This article also presents a parallel version of CNMA that improves the efficiency and quality of solutions over the sequential version and tries to steer it away from local optima. CNMA’s performance is evaluated against conventional optimization methods for seven nonlinear design problems of 8 (two problems), 10, 15, 36 and 60 real-valued dimensions and one with 186 binary dimensions. Conventional methods evaluated are stable, off-the-shelf implementations of the Bayesian optimization with the Gaussian Processes, Nelder–Mead, and Random Search. The first two do not even produce a solution for problems that are high dimensional, having both discrete and continuous variables or whose blackboxes fail to return values for some inputs. CNMA produces solutions for all problems. When conventional methods do produce solutions, CNMA improves upon their performance by 1%–87%.

Piloting an Electronic Sepsis Alerting System to Reduce Inpatient Sepsis-related Serious Safety Events.

Background: Electronic surveillance systems that enable continuous patient screening for emerging signs of sepsis may improve sepsis recognition and patient outcomes. Objectives: An electronic sepsis alerting system was piloted on Pediatric Medicine units at a tertiary care hospital. The pilot served to refine the system and accompanying workflow before hospital-wide implementation, aiming to reduce inpatient serious safety events related to delayed sepsis recognition. Methods: The multitiered intervention included (1) an electronic sepsis screening and alerting system; (2) an interdisciplinary huddle workflow; (3) risk stratification nomenclature (continue routine care, sepsis watch, code sepsis) to reconcile alerts; and (4) streamlined documentation and ordering tools. Iterative changes were made to the tools and workflow using plan, do, study, act cycle methodology. Measures of clinician adherence to the workflow were tracked monthly during the pilot (% alerts reconciled, % alerts with documented huddle note). Alert to huddle time and huddle to reconciliation time (target: 10 minutes) served as outcome measures for the pilot. The frequency of consults to the hospital’s critical care response team for the indication of query sepsis was monitored as a balancing measure. Alert frequency, rate of corresponding clinical concern for sepsis, and missed sepsis cases were tracked as measures of screening tool utility. Results: During the 3-month pilot, 86% of alerts were reconciled and 67% had a documented huddle note. The median alert to huddle time decreased from 9 to 3 minutes over the course of the pilot. The median huddle to reconciliation time decreased from 14 to 8 minutes. The frequency of CCRT consults during the pilot was 1 per month, which was increased slightly from the baseline frequency of 0.67 consults per month over the previous year. An alert was triggered for 4.1% of opportunities (average 2.2 alerts per day). Of the alerts reconciled, 29% indicated a concern for sepsis. There were four instances of clinical concern for sepsis where no alert was triggered. The sepsis huddle workflow was followed in three of these instances. Conclusions/implications: Pilot results suggest clinician adherence to a new streamlined approach to care for inpatients at risk for sepsis. Involving clinicians in system design and embedding electronic tools within existing care processes supported workflow uptake. Future efforts will focus on optimizing the alerting system’s clinical accuracy and examining its impact on clinical outcomes.

Revealing Three-in-One Nature of Organic Negative Transconductance Transistors

Introducing a negative transconductance (NTC) regime into a switching curve of a field-effect transistor is a promising approach to overcome the fundamental limit of traditional digital logic circuits. However, the operation of NTC devices is only weakly conceptualized up to the present. This study proposes a drastically new way of regarding an NTC transistor as a functional equivalent of three interconnected normal field-effect transistors. The electrical model is directly inspired by the structural and materials characteristics of high-performance organic devices, and it is fully confirmed by measured experimental data. This finding, therefore, rationalizes that the NTC transistors have a unique potential to greatly reduce the transistor count in an integrated circuit, and offers a simple yet universal tool for systematic design and optimization of NTC transistor circuits through simulation-driven engineering.

Design tool for estimating adsorbent hydrogen storage system characteristics for light-duty fuel cell vehicles

This work combines materials development with hydrogen storage technology advancements to address onboard hydrogen storage challenges in light-duty vehicle applications. These systems are comprised of the vehicle requirements design space, balance of plant requirements, storage system components, and materials engineering culminating in the development of an Adsorbent System Design Tool that serves as a preprocessor to the storage system and vehicle-level models created within the Hydrogen Storage Engineering Center of Excellence. Computational and experimental efforts were integrated to evaluate, design, analyze, and scale potential hydrogen storage systems and their supporting components against the Department of Energy 2020 and Ultimate Technical Targets for Hydrogen Storage Systems for Light Duty Vehicles. Ultimately, the Adsorbent System Design Tool was created to assist material developers in assessing initial design parameters that would be required to estimate the performance of the hydrogen storage system once integrated with the full fuel cell system.

Development of OnlineWeb-Based New Student Graduation Application in Junior High School

The student graduation information system is integral to managing and carrying out school information system activities. Especially in Junior High Schools (SMP) today, many still have not used a website-based information system due to the new internet network entering this area. In meeting the admin’s need, in particular, to deal with the problem of passing the distribution of receiving information or announcements, documentation of activities, teaching materials, and registration of new student participants have not run optimally as expected. In the system development method in this research, the author uses the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with the Waterfall model approach, which consists of 5 stages: analysis, design, implementation, testing, and implementation. The system design tool uses the UML (Unified Modeling Language) method using use-case diagrams according to system requirements. In developing the SDLC method in this study, the authors used it until the design stage. The results obtained from this research are a Web-based application system for new students’ graduation. With this tool, several related files will be generated. This new system can improve the quality of further student admissions, graduation information and school information through the website.

Real-time energy-efficient operation of a dedicated mechanical subcooling based transcritical CO2 heat pump water heater via multi-input single-output extreme seeking control

In the field of transcritical CO2 systems applied research, dedicated mechanical subcooling (DMS) is one of the most recently investigated and promising solutions, especially for space heating. However, this kind of system brings with it an intrinsic complexity, and to pursue effective and efficient operation, it requires suitable control and optimization strategies. The paper considers a combined transcritical CO2 and R134a -based DMS system and depicts the benefits of using a Multi-Input-Single-Output (MIMO) Extremum Seeking Control (ESC) approach. The real-time optimization strategy was obtained through a Computer-Aided Control System Design (CACSD) tool, exploiting an ad hoc Dymola model of the DMS system that has been validated and tested by using experimental data. The performance of the proposed approach has been compared with standard solutions relying on physical correlations. The MISO-ESC strategy always performed better in terms of system Coefficient of Performance (COP), under both fixed and variable ambient temperature conditions. Finally, the influence of the different refrigerants in the combined DMS system was analyzed from both heating capacity and performance points of view.

Development of an integrated system design tool for helical Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT-X)

Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) technology has been identified to be a potential disruptor to the wind energy industry. However, this technology is yet to deliver the promised performance, mainly due to its system design. To help designers reveal the VAWTs’ technological potential, the current study focuses on developing a physics-based, interrelated multi-domain dynamic model of the whole system to be used for systematic design optimisation and integrated system performance analysis. To achieve this the subsystems and design parameters of a typical VAWT are first identified. Then by dynamically coupling domain-independent models of the involved components with DMST, an integrated parametric modelling platform is generated and executed in MATLAB/Simulink. The developed parametric tool is then validated at a system level using performance data from a 6kW VAWT-X Energy case study turbine, showing a high level of accuracy and robustness. Finally, the system dynamics are studied through sensitivity analyses to evaluate the suitability of the platform for further dynamic analysis and design optimisation. The simulated results indicate the existence of component interaction induced dynamics with significant impact on system performance if neglected.

Information technology provides benefits for human life. Utilization of technology in the service sector is needed because it can provide optimal service to clients. Meanwhile, currently the outpatient data processing at the Cikijing Rancaekek Clinic is still manual, causing several obstacles, namely difficulty in finding patient data because they are still looking through medical record cards, difficulty in making reports quickly and accurately and difficulty in calculating treatment costs.The purpose of this study is to make it easier to find patient data, make reports quickly, and make the calculation of patient treatment costs more effective. The method used is SDLC with a waterfall model and data collection techniques. System analysis and design tools used for this final project are Flow Map, Data Flow Diagram (DFD), Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD), Data Dictionary (Data Dictionary), and Structure Chart. For program implementation using Microsoft Visual Foxpro9.0 programming language. In this system, it is concluded to overcome the problems that have occurred in the old system, so that it can assist in the process of searching for patient data, making reports and calculating treatment costs.

PERANCANGAN USER INTERFACE SISTEM INFORMASI E-REPOSITORY KARYA ILMIAH PADA AKADEMI KEPERAWATAN BAITURRAHMAH PADANG BERBASIS WEB

This study aims to produce a user interface for scientific work repository information systems that are useful for facilitating the Baiturahmah Nursing Academy in searching for scientific work references online. Scientific works are scientific essays that present general facts and are written according to the correct writing methodology and the truth can be proven, the opinions in scientific works are always accompanied by supporting evidence, for that the process of storing scientific works can be arranged in a structured manner. The management of scientific works from the Baiturrahmah Nursing Academy community is currently still manual, the process to access scientific works is done by borrowing directly from the library. The method used in this research is the Waterfall Model System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and system design tools using the UML model. While the programming language and database design used the PHP programming language and MySQL database. The results of this study are a scientific work repository application that can be accessed online which provides convenience in the process of storing scientific papers, making it easier for the Baiturrahmah Nursing Academy to find references for writing scientific papers.

Rapid Construction of Aerocapture Attainability Sets Using Sequential Convex Programming

This paper proposes a novel method to efficiently construct the aerocapture attainability set based on convex optimization. Using dimensionality reduction, constructing the attainability set is equivalent to solving a set of discrete points on its boundary. As solving each of the boundary points is a typical nonlinear optimal control problem, a sequential convex programming method is adopted. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by high-fidelity numerical results. This is the first time that the configuration of the aerocapture attainability set is precisely described by the state variables at atmospheric exit. Since the quantification of the set is significant for assessing the feasibility of performing an aerocapture maneuver, the proposed method can be used as a reliable tool for systematic design for aerocapture mission.

Pseudo-Two-Dimensional Modeling and Validation of a Hybrid Rocket Combustion Chamber

A pseudo-two-dimensional (pseudo-2-D) model for the cylindrical combustion chamber of a hybrid rocket is developed in this paper with the purpose of its integration in a system design tool used for engine predesign phases. A compromise of simplicity and accuracy is thus required. Integral transient boundary-layer equations are included and coupled with the mass and energy balances at the fuel surface, where fuel pyrolysis is described by an Arrhenius law. Studies assessing the model in the nonreactive case provide satisfactory results regarding the description of the boundary layer. Concerning the hybrid case, the computed steady-state fuel regression rates are found to be in the low region of the reference values coming from semiempirical laws for several oxidizer/fuel couples and oxidizer mass fluxes, producing errors up to 50% for certain sources. The effect of mass flux and motor size is correctly simulated. Eventually, the whole engine operation is assessed through the comparison of the computed results with three experimental tests realized at our laboratory and using an 87.5% hydrogen-peroxide/high-density-polyethylene couple. Corresponding results lead to regression rate errors varying in a wide range (from 10 to 40%). Such differences, although high, remain acceptable for our engine predesign phase application.

To strengthen the government's program in the form of 3T (Testing, Tracing, Treatment) in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia, required an integrated screening test web-based information system (software) for patients, referrals, laboratories designed to follow the needs and flows in the field to issue test results quickly and accurately. The research method used is qualitative-descriptive, with a System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method. This software is designed using the Laravel Framework 8.0 and using MySQL database for data storage, also using UML (Unifield Modeling Language) as a tool for system design. System testing techniques using the black box method. The problems of speed of time, automation, and data accuracy that arise in the health facility referral will be resolved by providing a fast, accurate and integrated solution for test results.
