Effect of Silver-Graphene Oxide-Cobalt Oxide Nanocomposite on Cytotoxic Levels in MRC-5 and HepG2 Cell Lines and Molecular Docking Studies

The cytotoxic properties of cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles (NPs), in addition to graphene oxide (GO)-Co3O4 and silver (Ag)-GO-Co3O4 nanocomposites (NCs), were evaluated against both human healthy lung fibroblast (MRC-5) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cell lines utilizing the XTT assay. The investigation revealed that synthesized Co3O4 NPs and NCs (GO-Co3O4 and Ag-GO-Co3O4) elicited significant cytotoxic responses in MRC-5 and HepG2 cell lines in a concentration-dependent manner. Through molecular docking analyses, it was observed that all fabricated nanomaterials exhibited DNA recognition via minor groove binding, with molecular affinities ranging from − 4.82 to -11.66 kcal/mol. Furthermore, the docking outcomes illustrated that the angular conformations of GO-Co3O4 and Ag-GO-Co3O4 conferred ‘shape-selective’ characteristics as DNA minor groove binders, leading to heightened cytotoxicity, particularly in the HepG2 cell line compared to the normal MRC-5 cell line.

Investigating the impact of electron beam irradiation on electrical, magnetic, and optical properties of XLPE/Co3O4 nanocomposites

Nowadays, many researchers aim to fill polymer materials with inorganic nanoparticles to enhance the polymer properties and gain the merits of the polymeric host matrix. Sol–gel synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles are subjected to different doses of electron beam (10, 20, and 30 kGy) to study their physiochemical properties and choose the optimized nanoparticles to fill our polymeric matrix. Crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) has been filled with 5 wt % of un-irradiated cobalt oxide nanoparticles using the melt extruder method. The structural, optical, magnetic, and electrical properties of the XLPE/Co3O4 nanocomposite before and after exposure to different doses of electron beam radiation have been characterized. The crystallite size of face-centered cubic spinel Co3O4 nanoparticles has been confirmed by XRD whereas and their unique truncated octahedral shape obviously appears in SEM micrographs. The crystallite size of Co3O4 nanoparticles has decreased from 47.5 to 31.5 nm upon irradiation at a dose of 30 kGy, and significantly decreased to 18.5 nm upon filling inside XLPE matrix. Related to the oxidation effect of the electron beam, the Co2+/Co3+ ratio on the surface of Co3O4 nanoparticles has decreased upon irradiation as verified by XPS technique. This consequently caused the partial elimination of oxygen vacancies, mainly responsible for the weak ferromagnetic behavior of Co3O4 in its nanoscale. This appears as decreased saturation magnetization as depicted by VSM. The XLPE/Co3O4 nanocomposite has also shown weak ferromagnetic behavior but the coercive field (Hc) has increased from 112.57 to 175.72 G upon filling inside XLPE matrix and decreased to 135.18 G after irradiating the nanocomposite at a dose of 30 kGy. The ionic conductivity of XLPE has increased from 0.133 × 10–7 to 2.198 × 10–3 S/cm upon filling with Co3O4 nanoparticles while a slight increase is observed upon irradiation.

In‐vitro and bio‐electrochemical characteristics of phytochemical enriched Co3O4 nanoparticles loaded biomimetic scaffold for preclinical analysis

AbstractThe work aims for biomimetic fabrication of Moringa oleifera seed (MOS) extract‐mediated cobalt oxide nanoparticles (Co3O4 NPs) with chitosan‐sodium alginate scaffolds by solvent casting. Distinct concentrations of green synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles were combined to fabricate scaffolds. XRD analysis revealed the cubic structure with an average crystallite size of 18.83 nm. Smaller particle size, spherical morphology, and the presence of organic MOS extract had a substantial impact on the physio‐chemical properties of Co3O4 NPs. In‐vitro bioactivity Co3O4 NPs and nanoparticles anchored scaffolds were determined using simulated body fluid (SBF) through HAP formation. The scaffolds' swelling, protein absorption behavior and bio‐electrochemical analysis were evaluated under PBS. The antibacterial activity of Co3O4 NPs/scaffolds was more effective against Gram‐positive bacterial strains than Gram‐negative ones due to the increased production of ROS. In‐vitro cytotoxicity of the synthesized Co3O4 NPs and scaffolds was tested against the MCF‐7 cell line using an MTT assay. These studies demonstrate that the Co3O4 NPs/scaffolds have excellent physico‐chemical characteristics that increase in‐vitro biocompatibility. Furthermore, impedance and LSV studies showed that biomimetic CSA 200 electrolytes extend host tissue's regenerative compatibility. Also, the anticancer and antibacterial properties of biomimetic scaffold enabled Co3O4 nanoparticles to retain their required biomaterial characteristics for tissue engineering applications.

Cobalt oxide nanoparticles for biological applications: Synthesis and physicochemical characteristics for different natural fuels

Cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles were synthesized via a simple combustion process employing natural fuels, and their structural, morphological, thermal, and antibacterial properties were studied. According to XRD measurements, each specimen has a cubic crystalline structure. Co3O4 nanoparticles prepared from natural macromolecules such as cow urine, honey, wine, and tea extract had respective crystallite diameters of 22.9, 31.3, 30.4, and 31.2 nm. According to FESEM and EDAX analyses, the products have stoichiometric shapes such as rice grains, mushrooms, and cluster cavities, and EDX confirmed the presence of the Co and O elements. The FTIR image revealed the presence of various phytochemicals on the surface, and the bands at 400 and 630 cm−1 denoted the distinctive Co–O linkages. The diameters of crystallites and TEM particles are comparable. The thermal properties of Co3O4 nanoparticles synthesized with diverse natural fuels are characterized by substantial weight losses. The particle's colloidal stability has been investigated. It confirms that the use of natural resources influences particle stability. Antibacterial and antifungal activity of green synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles was evaluated against two distinct bacteria (Gram-positive) Staphylococcus aureus and (Gram-negative) Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as two fungi, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. It has been discovered that synthetic Co3O4 nanoparticles inhibit microbial and fungal proliferation effectively.

Enhanced Acetone Sensing at Room Temperature using Tailored Co3O4 Nanostructures-Coated Optical Fibers: An Application towards Non-invasive Blood Glucose Sensor

Detection of acetone molecules is of paramount importance in the fields of healthcare, air quality monitoring and industrial uses. Herein, we proposed a room temperature Co3O4 nanoparticles coated optical fiber acetone gas sensor. Structural, morphological and uniformity coating of synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles were investigated using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy techniques. Interestingly, sensing studies uncovered the linear characteristic in output detector current with change in 0-2.5 ppm acetone concentration for all the sensors (named as F-S350, F-S500 and F-S1000 sensors coated with nanoparticles annealed at 350, 500 and 1000°C, respectively). The F-S350 sensor divulged a significant increase in output current, sensitivity around 15 times higher and reduced limit-of-detection (LoD) values with regard to F-S1000 device. Furthermore, the sensing parameters were augmented by exposed to lower acetone concentration. The experimental findings established the F-S350 sensor as a superior device, which is explained by the evanescent field distribution outside coating region of fiber through FDTD simulation. Typically, the concentration of acetone gas in diabetic patients is above 1.8 ppm than healthy people (range 0.3-0.9 ppm), and therefore the proposed room temperature F- S350 device having LoD value 0.15 ppm can be deemed as a biomarker for the detection of acetone molecules in diabetic patients.

Biosynthesis of Co3O4 nanomedicine by using Mollugo oppositifolia L. aqueous leaf extract and its antimicrobial, mosquito larvicidal activities

Nanotechnology is a relatively revolutionary area that generates day-to-day advancement. It makes a significant impact on our daily life. For example, in parasitology, catalysis and cosmetics, nanoparticles possess distinctive possessions that make it possible for them in a broad range of areas. We utilized Mollugo oppositifolia L. aqueous leaf extract assisted chemical reduction method to synthesize Co3O4 nanoparticles. Biosynthesized Co3O4 Nps were confirmed via UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, EDX, Fourier-transform infrared, and HR-TEM analysis. The crystallite size from XRD studies revealed around 22.7 nm. The biosynthesized Co3O4 nanoparticle was further assessed for mosquito larvicidal activity against south-urban mosquito larvae Culex quinquefasciatus, and antimicrobial activities. The synthesized Co3O4 particle (2) displayed significant larvicidal activity towards mosquito larvae Culex quinquefasciatus with the LD50 value of 34.96 µg/mL than aqueous plant extract (1) and control Permethrin with the LD50 value of 82.41 and 72.44 µg/mL. When compared to the standard antibacterial treatment, Ciprofloxacin, the Co3O4 nanoparticle (2) produced demonstrates significantly enhanced antibacterial action against the pathogens E. coli and B. cereus. The MIC for Co3O4 nanoparticles 2 against C. albicans was under 1 μg/mL, which was much lower than the MIC for the control drug, clotrimale, which was 2 µg per milliliter. Co3O4 nanoparticles 2, with a MIC of 2 μg/mL, has much higher antifungal activity than clotrimale, whose MIC is 4 μg/mL, against M. audouinii.

Sol-gel synthesis of nanostructured cobalt oxide in four different ionic liquids

In this paper we report on the sol-gel synthesis of cobalt oxide in four different ionic liquids with two different cations and anions. The employed ionic liquids are; 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethylsulfonate ([EMIm]TfO), 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethylsulfonate ([Py1,4]TfO), 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([EMIm]TFSA), and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidiniumbis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([Py1,4]TFSA). The influence of the cation and anion of the ionic liquids on the morphology of the synthesized oxides was explored. The results showed that octahydron-shaped Co3O4 nanoparticles with different average sizes depending on the type of the employed ionic liquid. The imidazolium cation was found to play a significant role in reducing the particle size of the synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles. The samples prepared in the imidazolium-based ionic liquids showed smaller particle sizes than those of the samples prepared in the pyrrolidinium-based ionic liquids. A simple microplasma reactor paired with indirect ultrasonication for aqueous phase synthesis of cobalt oxide nanoparticles.

Cobalt oxide nanoparticles are widely used owing to their distinct properties such as their larger surface area, enhanced reactivity, and their superior optical, electronic, and magnetic properties when compared to their bulk counterpart. The nanoparticles are preferably synthesized using a bottom-up approach in liquid as it allows the particle size to be more precisely controlled. In this study, we employed microplasma to synthesize Co3O4 nanoparticles because it eliminates harmful reducing agents and is efficient and cost-effective. Microplasma reactors are equipped with copper wire electrodes to generate plasma and are simple to configure. The product was characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The experimental parameters that were varied for the synthesis were: with or without stirring, with or without indirect ultrasonication, and with or without capping agents (urea and sucrose). The results showed that the microplasma enabled Co3O4 nanoparticles to be successfully synthesized, with particle sizes of 10.9-17.7 nm, depending on the synthesis conditions.

Synthesis, characterization and biological applications of cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles

Cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles have been synthesized by thermal decomposition method. The synthesized Co3O4 nano-scale particles were characterized using UV–Visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, Transmission electron microscopy and Scanning electron microscopy. The study of antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity behavior of Co3O4 nanoparticles with various concentrations was performed. The results from antimicrobial test and hemolysis assay depicts that the synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles show efficient antioxidant as well as the antibacterial behavior. From the experiment it is also revealed that the antioxidant activity of Co3O4 nanoparticles increases with the increase of nanoparticle concentration.

Enhanced OER properties from nanocomposites of Co3O4 and MOF derived N/S/Zn-doped porous carbon

In the present work, Co3O4 nanoparticles embedded in N/S/Zn- doped porous carbon matrices are synthesized and utilized as active materials to modify the commercial glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for enhanced and highly stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER). To design these nanocomposites, initially, a metal-organic framework (spherical ZnDTO) is synthesized by the complexation of Zn-salts and dithiooxamide (DTO) ligand, and N/S/Zn- doped porous carbon matrix (NSC) derived by carbonizing them at different temperatures. Then, to investigate the role of Zn on the catalytic performance of the materials, the thermally optimized carbon matrix is treated with a suitable acid. Further, hydrothermally synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles are being used to form composites with these carbon matrixes. All the as-synthesized materials have been well-characterized by various tools for their structural and morphological associations. The best composite shows the onset overpotential of 480 mV vs. RHE close to ‘RuO2’ (460 mV vs. RHE) and has the lowest Tafel slope 62 mVdec−1. It excels in its current stability test for 7200 seconds at a static overpotential of 480 mV vs. RHE. It also exhibits continuous OER performance with a 130% increment in LSV current that reveals the catalyst's porous and non-corrosive nature. Finally, it has been proved with a thorough analysis that increased oxygen vacancies in the as-synthesized material are the protagonist to enhance the OER performance. At the same time, heteroatoms (N and S- atom) and Zn are also observed to enhance the electrocatalytic activity significantly.

MOF-Derived Co3O4 Nanoparticles Catalyzing Hydrothermal Deoxygenation of Fatty Acids for Alkane Production

Designing economical and nonprecious catalysts with a catalytic performance as good as that of noble metals is of great importance in future renewable bioenergy production. In this study, the metal–organic framework (MOF) was applied as a precursor template to synthesize Co3O4 nanoparticles with a carbon matrix shell (denoted as M-Co3O4). To select the synthesized optimal catalyst, stearic acid was chosen as the model reactant. The effects of catalyst dosage, methanol dosage, water dosage, temperature, and reaction time on catalytic efficiency were examined. Under the designed condition, M-Co3O4 exhibited high catalytic performance and the catalyst showed higher conversion of stearic acid (98.7%) and selectivity toward C8–C18 alkanes (92.2%) in comparison with Pt/C (95.8% conversion and 93.2% selectivity toward C8–C18). Furthermore, a series of characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), nitrogen adsorption isotherms (Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was applied to investigate the physicochemical properties of the catalysts. Finally, we proposed that decarbonization (deCO) could be the presumably mechanistic pathway for the production of C8–C18 alkanes from the decomposition of stearic acid.

Solanum tuberosum Leaf Extract Templated Synthesis of Co3O4 Nanoparticles for Electrochemical Sensor and Antibacterial Applications.

Green synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) is a viable alternative methodology because of cost-effective and availability of environmentally friendly templates for desired application, which has attracted the attention of researchers in recent years. In the present study, Co3O4 NPs were synthesized in various volume ratios in the presence of Solanum tuberosum leaf extract as a template. The synthesized Co3O4 NPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), surface area electron diffraction (SAED), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. XRD analysis found that the average crystalline sizes for the 1 : 2, 1 : 1, and 2 : 1 volume ratios was 25.83, 21.05, and 27.98 nm, respectively. SEM-EDX and TEM analyses suggest that the green-synthesized Co3O4 NPs are spherical in shape without the presence of impurities. The band gap Eg values of the 1 : 2, 1 : 1, and 2 : 1 volume ratios of Co3O4 NPs were found to be 1.83, 1.77, and 2.19 eV, respectively. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of various bioactive ingredients within the leaf extract of Solanum tuberosum. Co3O4 NPs-modified electrodes showed better sensing capability towards ascorbic acid and citric acid due to enhanced electron transfer kinetics. Among three volume ratios (1 : 2, 1 : 1, and 2 : 1) of Co3O4 nanoelectrodes, 1 : 1 and 2 : 1 were identified as the best performing nanoelectrodes. This is possibly due to the high catalytic behavior and the more homogenized surface structure. Co3O4 (1 : 2) nanodrug showed the enhanced antibacterial activity (16 mm) towards S. aureus which is attributed to the formation of enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Sonochemically synthesized cobalt oxide nanoparticles as an additive for natural polymer iodide electrolyte based dye-sensitized solar cells

Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC)-based gel polymer electrolytes with different alkali metal iodide salts (potassium iodide, KI; sodium iodide, NaI; and lithium iodide, LiI) were investigated. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to examine the electrochemical properties of the electrolytes. The electrolyte containing KI salt (KI sample) has the highest ionic conductivity. The trend of conductivity of the samples developed as follows, KI > NaI > LiI. A hybrid gel polymer electrolyte (HGPE) was developed to further enhance the property by incorporating sonochemically synthesized cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles into the KI sample. The nanoparticles were studied by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). HGPEs containing various amounts of synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles were examined with EIS, XRD, and Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV). The introduction of Co3O4 nanoparticles has improved the ionic conductivity, reduced activation energy and degree of crystallinity of the HGPEs. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) assembled with the developed HGPEs have shown an improvement in short-circuit current density and efficiency. HGPE containing 7 wt% of Co3O4 nanoparticles achieved the best ionic conductivity and photovoltaic performance of DSSC of 8.02 mS cm−1 and 5.8%, respectively.

Acid-Etched Co3O4 Nanoparticles on Nickel Foam: The Highly Reactive (311) Facet and Enriched Defects for Boosting Methanol Oxidation Electrocatalysis.

The confirmation and regulation of active sites are particularly critical for the design of methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) catalysts. Here, an acid etching method for facet control combined with defect construction was utilized to synthesize Co3O4 nanoparticles on nickel foam for preferentially exposing the (311) facet with enriched oxygen vacancies (VO). The acid-leached oxides exhibited superior MOR activity with a mass activity of 710.94 mA mg-1 and an area-specific activity of 3.390 mA cm-2 as a result of (i) abundant active sites for MOR promoted by VO along with the highly active (311) facet being exposed and (ii) phase purification-reduced adsorption energy (Eads) of methanol molecules. Ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy proved that highly active CoOOH obtained via the activation of plentiful Co2+ effectively improved the MOR. Density functional theory calculations confirmed that the selective exposed (311) facet has the lowest Eads for CH3OH molecules. This work puts forward acid etching as the facet modification and defect engineer for nanostructured non-noble catalysts, which is expected to result in superior electrochemical performance required for advanced alkaline direct methanol fuel cells.

Evaluation of Biological Activities of Chemically Synthesized Cobalt Oxide Nanoparticles in Concentration and Time Dependent Manner

The promising results of metal oxides nanoparticles in different areas including the biological system lead us to investigate the antioxidant and antimicrobial actions of chemically synthesized cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles. The different concentrations of synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles were prepared and evaluated for different parameters at different time intervals i.e. on day 1, 30 and 60 after preparations. Co3O4 nanoparticles synthesized in this study were of 52.2 nm average size with a polydispersity index of 0.465. We observed that Co3O4 nanoparticles scavenge different in vitro free radicals (DPPH, ABTS, superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide radicals) in concentration dependent manner. The percentage of inhibitions of free radicals by Co3O4 nanoparticles was markedly more on day 1 as compared to day 30 and 60. The IC50 values of Co3O4 nanoparticles for these free radicals were also on day 1 as compared to day 30 and 60. The Co3O4 nanoparticles showed the antibacterial actions against both the bacterial strains i.e. S. aureus and E. coli. The MIC and MBC values revealed that action of Co3O4 nanoparticles was more against E. coli than S. aureus. The MIC and MBC values were lower on day 1 as compared to day 30 and 60 with respective to specific bacteria. In conclusions, the Co3O4 nanoparticles synthesized in this study showed potent antioxidant and antibacterial properties due to which it may serve as promising candidate for the combat the biological problems humans, animals and plants associated with reactive oxygen species and bacteria.

Synthesis and characterization of cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles

In the present study, cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles have been synthesized using cobalt nitrate as its source by precipitation approach. The structural properties of the synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles were studied using × ray diffraction (XRD). The XRD results confirm the crystalline nature of the nanoparticles. Further, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was also performed to study the morphology of the synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles. SEM micrograph shows that the Co3O4 nanoparticles are somewhat sphere like morphology and they are interlinked with each other.

Synthesis and characterization of nano sized cobalt oxide by precipitation method


 
 
 In the present work, cobalt oxide nanoparticles were prepared by using precipitation method. The cobalt nitrate [Co (No3)2] and ammonium oxalate [C2H8N2O4] were used as precursors for the synthesis of cobalt oxide nanoparticles and the resultant product was Calcinated at 400˚C for 2 hrs. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDAX) to analyze the structural and morphological properties. The XRD pattern of the synthesized cobalt oxide nanoparticles exhibits cubic structure with the average crystalline size of 8.06 nm. The functional groups of the synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed by using FTIR spectrum (400 to 4000 cm-1). In the synthesized sample and its purity were confirmed from EDAX spectrum. The surface morphology of the synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles shows spherical morphology. The optical properties of the synthesized cobalt oxide nanoparticles were investigated by photoluminescence spectrum which shows a minor emission at around 440 nm.
 
 

Synthesis, characterization, and NH3 gas sensing application of Zn doped cobalt oxide nanoparticles

Metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors have a wide level of applications. They have the benefits of being powerful, fast, lightweight, dependable, safe and durable. In the current investigation, Cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles were prepared using hydrothermal method. So as to build the productivity, the synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles were doped with ZnO. X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique was used to examine the structure of the synthesized Co3O4nanoparticles. The surface morphology of the nanoparticles was studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy and the elemental analysis done by EDX. FTIR was used to confirm the molecular constituents of the Co3O4 nanoparticles. Optical characterization was done by analyzing the UV absorption spectrum. The gas sensing properties of pure nanocrystalline cobalt oxide have been researched and compared with that of Zn doped cobalt oxide nanoparticles. The response of the Zinc doped Co3O4nanoparticles to ammonia gas was found to be better than that of pureCo3O4 nanoparticles, exhibiting their potential for application in nanosensors.

Tailoring surface morphology and magnetic property by precipitants concentrations dependent synthesis of Co3O4 nanoparticles

Cobaltic oxide (Co3O4) nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation method using different concentrations of NaOH and NH4OH. Elemental analysis confirmed the presence of Co and O in the studied samples. The X-ray powder diffraction patterns (XRPD) demonstrated that the synthesized cubic Co3O4 nanoparticles were of good crystallinity and Fourier transform infrared (FT-TIR) data supported the results of XRPD data. Different magnifying field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images confirmed that the surface of the synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles were highly dependent on the synthesis condition and used precipitants. The magnetic properties of the synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles were investigated using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) where different precipitants and concentrations influenced the magnetic properties of Co3O4 nanoparticles.

Synthesis of Co3O4 nanoparticles from amino acids mixed ligands and its adsorption properties

The metal precursor derived from the reaction of Co(II) acetate with the mixed ligands of lysine(Lys) and glutamine(Glu) was used to synthesize Co3O4 nanoparticles. The precursor was characterized by (C, H, N, M), IR, electronic spectra, TGA and effective magnetic moments. Co3O4 nanoparticles were prepared from calcinations of the synthesized precursor at 800 oC. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmittance electron microscope. The average particle size is 50 nm. Co3O4 nanoparticles. Adsorption of Methylene Blue on the surface of the Co3O4 was studied. The synthesized metal oxide has 27.2 (mg/g) adsorption capacity of methylene blue (MB) from aquoues solution and removed 95 % of it. This method can be used to remove dyes from wastewater. Langmuir isotherm was the best model represent the adsorption of MB. Pseudo-second-order model with determination coefficient (R2) close to the unity was the best model for adsorption kinetic of MB.
