Ammonium Oxalate as an Efficient Catalyst for One-Pot Synthesis of Tetrahydrobenzo [a]xanthen-11-one Derivatives Under Solvent-Free Conditions

A simple and efficient procedure for the synthesis of 12-aryl- or 12-alkyl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthen-11-one derivatives has been developed via one-pot three-component reaction of 2-naphthol, aldehydes, and dimedone in the presence of ammonium oxalate as a mild and inexpensive catalyst under solvent-free conditions. The present method is operationally simple and offers several advantages such as high yields, short reaction time, economic availability of the catalyst, and simple workup.

Abstract 1,4-Diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) has been used as a mild and efficient catalyst for the synthesis of various tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives via a one-pot, three component condensation of aromatic aldehydes, dimedone, and active methylene compounds. This method provides several advantages: a simple workup procedure, environmental friendliness, neutral conditions, and good yields. In addition, water or 50% aqueous ethanol was chosen as a green solvent.

Modified SBA-15 as an Efficient Environmentally Friendly Nanocatalyst for One-Pot Synthesis of Tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrane Derivatives

SBA-15 mesoporous silicas modified with proline and aminopropyl functional groups were employed for synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrane derivatives by simply mixing the precursors with surface-modified catalyst in a mortar. The mesoporous catalysts were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), small-angle x-ray diffractometry (SAXS), thermogravimetric/differential thermal analyzer (TG/DTA), Barrett–Joiner–Halenda (BJH) pore size and volume analysis, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area measurement methods. The results indicate that SBA-15 mesoporous silica modified with proline and aminopropyl functional groups can be effectively utilized for synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrane derivatives.

Ammonium Chloride–Catalyzed One-Pot Synthesis of Tetrahydrobenzo[α]xanthen-11-one Derivatives Under Solvent-Free Conditions

A one-pot, multicomponent reaction of aldehydes, dimedone, and β-naphthols is described for the preparation of 12-aryl- or 12-alkyl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydrobenzo[α]xanthen-11-one derivatives using ammonium chloride as a mild, inexpensive, and environmentally benign catalyst under solvent-free conditions. Different types of aldehyde and β-naphthol derivatives are used in the reaction, and in all cases the products were synthesized successfully.

A simple and efficient method have been described for the synthesis of 12‐aryl‐8,9,10,12‐tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthen‐11‐one derivatives employing a one‐pot, three‐component reaction of aryl aldehydes, 2‐naphthol and dimedone in the presence of trichloroacetic acid under solvent‐free conditions. Also the condensation of 2‐naphthol with alkyl or aryl aldehydes in the presence of trichloroacetic acid under solvent‐free media to afford the corresponding 14‐aryl or alkyl ‐14H‐dibenzo [a.j]xanthenes in excellent yields and short reaction times is described.

Synthesis of Tetrahydrobenzo[b]Pyran Derivatives Catalysed by Aliquat®336 in Water Under Microwave Irradiation

A series of 4 H-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobenzo[ b]pyran derivatives has been synthesised in excellent yield in a single pot using trioctylmethylammonium chloride (Aliquat®336) as phase-transfer catalyst in water under microwave irradiation. This method provides a clean access to the desired products. The structures of the products were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR in all cases and HRMS in several cases, and supported by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of 2-amino-4-(3-benzyloxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-3-cyano-7,7-dimethyl-5-oxo-4 H-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobenzo[ b]pyran and 2-amino-3-cyano-4-(3-iodo-4-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl)-7,7-dimethyl-5-oxo-4 H-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobenzo[ b] pyran.
