Global, regional, and national burden of premenstrual syndrome, 1990-2019: an analysis based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019.

What is the burden of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) at the global, regional, and national levels across 21 regions and 204 countries and territories? Over the past few decades, the global prevalent cases of PMS have grown significantly from 652.5 million in 1990 to 956.0 million in 2019, representing a 46.5% increase. PMS, which affects almost half of reproductive women worldwide, has substantial social, occupational, academic, and psychological effects on women's lives. However, no comprehensive and detailed epidemiological estimates of PMS by age and socio-demographic index (SDI) at global, regional, and national levels have been reported. An age- and SDI-stratified systematic analysis of the prevalence and years lived with disability (YLD) of PMS by age and SDI across 21 regions and 204 countries and territories has been performed. The prevalence and YLD of PMS from 1990 to 2019 were retrieved directly from the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) 2019 study. The number, rates per 100000 persons, and average annual percentage changes (AAPCs) of prevalence and YLD were estimated at the global, regional, and national levels. Globally, the prevalent cases of PMS increased by 46.5% from 652.5 million in 1990 to 956.0 million in 2019; in contrast, however, the age-standardized prevalence rate was approximately stable at 24431.15/100000 persons in 1990 and 24406.51/100000 persons in 2019 (AAPC, 0[95% CI: -0.01 to 0.01]). Globally, the YLD was 8.0 million in 2019 and 5.4 million in 1990, with a sizable increase over the past 30 years. The age-standardized YLD rate was stable (AAPC 0.01, P = 0.182), at 203.45/100000 persons in 1990 and 203.76/100000 persons in 2019. The age-standardized burden estimates were the highest in the low-middle SDI regions and the lowest in the high SDI regions. Peaks in burden rate estimates were all observed in the 40-44 years age group. Regional age-standardized burden estimates were the highest in South Asia and the lowest in Western Sub-Saharan Africa. The national age-standardized burden estimates were the highest in Pakistan and the lowest in Niger. The accuracy of the results depended on the quality and quantity of the GBD 2019 data. Fortunately, the GBD study endeavoured to retrieve data globally and applied multiple models to optimize the completeness, accuracy, and reliability of the data. In addition, the GBD study took the country as its basic unit and neglected the influence of race. Further study is warranted to compare differences in PMS burden associated with race. Finally, no data are available on the aetiology and risk information related to PMS, which might help us to better understand the trends and age distribution of PMS and help local governments formulate more detailed policies and comprehensive interventions. Although the age-standardized prevalence/YLD rate has been stable over the past 30 years, the absolute number of prevalent cases and YLD grew significantly worldwide from 1990 to 2019. Public health-related policies should be implemented to reduce the prevalence and alleviate the symptoms of PMS. Lifestyle changes and cognitive-behavioral therapy are critical in helping to reduce the burden of PMS. Effect of nutritional interventions on the psychological symptoms of premenstrual syndrome in women of reproductive age: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) affects approximately 48% of women of reproductive age worldwide. It can lead to functional impairment, lower quality of life, and decreased work productivity. Despite the availability of medical treatment options, women are seeking alternative interventions because of concerns of harmful side effects and limited evidence of efficacy associated with pharmacological treatments. To date, high-quality research investigating the effects of dietary and nutrient intervention on PMS is limited. This systematic review investigated the effect of nutritional interventions on the psychological symptoms of PMS. Five electronic databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in English from inception to October 2022. Trials eligible for inclusion were nutritional intervention studies involving women of reproductive age that measured PMS-associated psychological outcomes. Articles were selected using prespecified inclusion criteria. Data screening and extraction and risk-of-bias assessments were conducted by 3 independent reviewers using article screening software and the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool. Thirty-two articles reporting on 31 RCTs involving 3254 participants, ranging in age from 15 to 50 years were included and narratively reviewed. Only 1 of the included studies had a low risk of bias. Treatment with vitamin B6, calcium, and zinc consistently had significant positive effects on the psychological symptoms of PMS. There was insufficient evidence to support the effects of vitamin B1, vitamin D, whole-grain carbohydrates, soy isoflavones, dietary fatty acids, magnesium, multivitamin supplementation, or PMS-specific diets. There is some evidence to support the use of nutritional interventions for improving psychological symptoms of PMS. However, more research using consistent protocols, procedures to minimize risk of bias, intention-to-treat analysis, and clearer reporting is required to provide conclusive nutritional recommendations for improving PMS-related psychological outcomes. Emerging Perspectives on the Impact of Diabetes Mellitus and Anti-Diabetic Drugs on Premenstrual Syndrome. A Narrative Review.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) are global health challenges. Both disorders are often linked to a range of physical and psychological symptoms that significantly impact the quality of life of many women. Yet, the exact relation between DM and PMS is not clear, and the management of both conditions poses a considerable challenge. In this review, we aimed to investigate the interplay between DM, anti-diabetic drugs, and the different theories and symptoms of PMS. Female sex hormones are implicated in the pathophysiology of PMS and can also impair blood glucose control. In addition, patients with diabetes face a higher susceptibility to anxiety and depression disorders, with a significant number of patients experiencing symptoms such as fatigue and difficulty concentrating, which are reported in patients with PMS as well. Complications related to diabetic medications, such as hypoglycemia (with sulfonylurea) and fluid retention (with thiazolidinediones) may also mediate PMS-like symptoms. DM can, in addition, disturb the normal gut microbiota (GM), with a consequent loss of beneficial GM metabolites that guard against PMS, particularly the short-chain fatty acids and serotonin. Among the several available anti-diabetic drugs, those (1) with an anti-inflammatory potential, (2) that can preserve the beneficial GM, and (3) possessing a lower risk for hypoglycemia, might have a favorable outcome in PMS women. Yet, well-designed clinical trials are needed to investigate the anti-diabetic drug(s) of choice for patients with diabetes and PMS.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for premenstrual syndrome symptoms in patients with obesity.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a pathological condition characterized by a series of abnormal physical, psychological, and behavioral symptoms. We evaluated the effectiveness of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) in the treatment of patients with obesity and PMS. In this case-control study, 131 patients with obesity (BMI ≥ 27.5kg/cm2) diagnosed with moderate-to-severe PMS from March 2018 to March 2022 were prospectively selected to undergo LSG or not at their own discretion. Participants self-reported their PMS severity using the Premenstrual Syndrome Screening Tool. Among them, 68 patients chose LSG surgery, and 63 control group patients were followed up without surgery. Data were recorded at baseline and at 3months post-treatment. We used a multivariate analysis to assess the improvement in PMS symptoms and associated factors. Of the 131 patients with obesity and PMS, the improvement rate of PMS in the LSG group was 57.35% (n = 39), while the improvement rate of PMS in the control group was 25.40% (n = 16). Furthermore, our study revealed that surgery is an independent factor affecting the improvement of patients with PMS. Additionally, there was a correlation between alcohol use, T2DM and obesity-related metabolic diseases, and BMI with PMS. The changes in BMI, testosterone, and estradiol(E2) levels may also contribute to the improvement of patients with obesity and PMS. LSG can improve the management of obesity in patients with PMS to some extent. Changes in BMI, testosterone, and E2 may be indicative of improvement in patients with obesity and PMS.

A Review on Premenstural Syndrome

This activity is a review of the existing literature on premenstrual syndrome (PMS). It summarizes the management of PMS by outlining the importance of taking a comprehensive history and performing a detailed physical examination and makes a note of necessary diagnostic tests to be done to rule out other conditions that may present with similar symptoms, A woman has premenstrual syndrome (PMS) if she complains of recurrent psychological and/or physical symptoms occurring during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, and often resolving by the end of menstruation. Symptom severity can vary between women. Premenstrual symptoms occur in 95% of women of reproductive age. Severe, debilitating symptoms occur in about 5% of those women. There is no consensus on how symptom severity should be assessed for PMS, which has led to the use of a wide variety of symptom scores and scales, thus making it difficult to synthesise data on treatment efficacy. The prevalence of premenstrual syndrome symptoms and associated factors among female medical students at Al-Andalus University: a cross-sectional study

Background: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a menstrual disorder defined as a cluster of various physical, emotional, and behavioural symptoms that negatively affect women’s quality of life. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the prevalence of common PMS symptoms and determine their association with body mass index (BMI), lifestyle, dietary habits, perceived stress, menstrual flow, family history and family income among medical students at Al-Andalus University in Syria. Methods: A sample of 205 female students were interviewed and filled out a questionnaire. All data were coded and entered into excel (Microsoft 2019). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Chi-square tests were used to evaluate the association between PMS symptoms and the studied factors.   Results: The most frequently reported PMS symptoms were anxiety (80%), bloating (74.6%), and breast tenderness (62.9%). Our study found a significant association between weight gain pre-menstruation and BMI (p=0.02). A significant relationship was found between increased premenstrual consumption of sweets and both breast tenderness and bloating (p=0.01). Daily consumption of coffee was significantly correlated with weight gain and headaches (p<0.001). This study found a significant relationship between smoking cigarettes and abdominal and back pain (p=0.04, p=0.02, respectively). Smoking shisha was significantly associated with fatigue and bloating (p=0.01, p<0.001, respectively). A significant relationship was found between menstrual flow and both abdominal pain and headaches (p=0.01, p=0.02, respectively). Conclusions: A high prevalence of PMS symptoms was reported in Al-Andalus University female medical students. Additionally, this study found multiple significant associations between BMI, dietary habits, lifestyle, menstrual flow and the severity of symptoms.

A Cross-Sectional Study Regarding the Prevalence of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Its Impact on the Regular Life of Female Students in Bangladesh

Background: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) causes a variety of disturbing symptoms that can affect mood, cognition, and physical well-being and have effects on the regular lives of females, especially students. Objective: Assessment of female students’ knowledge, attitude, and awareness regarding PMS, evaluation of the prevalence of PMS in Bangladesh, and its impact on the regular life of female students in Bangladesh. Study Design: Cross-sectional study using a semi-structured questionnaire. Method: Primary data were collected by conducting an online survey with a semi-structured questionnaire. Data collection was carried out from March 2021 to October 2021. The subjects’ age range was 13–35. A total of 366 female students participated in the survey from different demographic profiles. Results: 74.86% of respondents were between the ages of 21 and 25, and they were mostly undergraduate students (71.31%). 77.05% of respondents were familiar with the term PMS. PMS symptoms were experienced by almost all participants (94%) to different extents. 140 participants (38%) experienced PMS one week before their period. On the other hand, 152 participants (42%) were moderately affected by PMS physical symptoms. 43% of participants rated PMS psychological and behavioral symptoms as moderately severe. The most common PMS symptom, according to 259 female students, was cramping, followed by headache and backache. PMS causes 65.85% of participants to lose concentration during educational activities. 59.56% of the participants claimed PMS causes difficulty at work and in other regular activities. Conclusion: PMS is highly prevalent among female students in Bangladesh. The majority of students experience a lack of concentration on educational activities due to PMS. PMS has an impact on both their personal and professional lives. Personal hygiene, sexual health, and overall awareness about PMS should be promoted more through education and social awareness programs.

Network structure of complex interactions of premenstrual syndrome and influencing factors in young adult women

BackgroundIn the transition phase from adolescence to adulthood, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) occurs more commonly, with a variety of symptoms. The occurrence of PMS may be the result of a combination of demographic, physiological, psychological and sociological factors. This study aimed to identify the central symptoms of PMS, and explored the complex influencing factors especially the one-to-one inter-relationships factors with specific symptoms. MethodThis is a cross-sectional study conducted in mainland China. 3458 young adult women were assessed. Using the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale (PSS) to assess the PMS, and PSS score was over 6 divided into PMS group, and vice versa. Influencing factors were assessed by a set of self-reported questionnaire. Network analysis was used to examined the interplay of PMS, whilst also considering the influencing factors of PMS. ResultsIn summary, 1479 participants were in PMS group. Anxiety had the highest strength centrality (1.12/1.09), shown higher centrality in the both network. Swelling of the hands or feet also shown higher strength centrality (0.89) in PMS group. PMS is associated with a higher history of dysmenorrhea, and neurotic personality. Neurotic personality - depressed mood/nervousness (0.27/0.23), history of dysmenorrhea - abdominal distension (0.21), had significantly higher weight than other edges in PMS group. ConclusionAnxiety was the most central symptom in the network, and was closely associated with other symptoms like depressed mood, which provided additional evidence for the centrality of emotional features in PMS. Moreover, the influencing factors of PMS combined demographic, physiological, psychological, and sociological factors. According to the central symptoms and factors affecting the specific PMS symptoms in young adult women, targeted intervention is helpful to prevent and alleviate PMS. LimitationCross-sectional design cannot infer the directionality of the associations between variables. All data is self-reported with recall bias and the edge weights across the constructs of influencing factors and PMS were fairly small.

Relation between metabolic syndrome and psychiatric symptoms severity in women with premenstrual syndrome

BackgroundPremenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a clinical condition characterized by recurrent moderate-to-severe affective, physical, and behavioral symptoms during the menstrual cycle. The present study aimed to assess the relation between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and symptoms severity in patients with premenstrual syndrome (PMS). This multicentric propensity score matched analysis included 300 women with PMS. They comprised 150 women with MetS and 150 women without MetS. Diagnosis of PMS was based on the validated Arabic version of Premenstrual Symptoms Screening Tool (PSST). For the diagnosis of MetS, we adopted the Harmonized Joint Scientific Statement (HJSS) on metabolic syndrome recommendations.ResultsThe present study included 300 patients with PMS. They comprised 150 patients with MetS and 150 patients without MetS. Comparison between the studied groups regarding the demographic and clinical data showed that patients with MetS had significantly higher BMI (30.5 ± 3.0 versus 25.2 ± 3.5 kg/m2, p < 0.001) and longer symptoms duration (4.4 ± 0.9 versus 3.3 ± 1.1 days, p < 0.001). Patients with MetS included higher frequency of moderate-to-severe PMS (35.3% versus 20.7%, p = 0.005). In patients with MetS, it was found that patients with moderate-to-severe PMS have significantly higher BMI, younger age at menarche and longer symptoms duration. Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified age at menarche [OR (95% CI): 0.7 (0.55–0.9), p = 0.005], PMS symptoms duration [OR (95% CI): 4.45 (3.0–6.6), p < 0.001] and MetS [OR (95% CI): 1.67 (1.34–2.53), p = 0.017] as significant predictors of moderate-to-severe PMS.ConclusionsMetS is related to symptoms severity in PMS patients.

COVID-19 Vaccines and the Menstrual Cycle: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective: This study aimed to explore the impact of various COVID-19 vaccines on the menstrual cycle of Jordanian women. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of tracked menstrual changes using an anonymous questionnaire written in the local language. We received 732 responses, and after exclusions, 617 responses were analyzed. The questionnaire covered six sectors: demographics, medical history, COVID-19 infection and vaccination status, obstetric and gynecological history, menstrual cycle history, and specific questions about cycle length, flow, and any symptoms before and after each vaccine shot. Participants included Jordanian females who had received any type of COVID-19 vaccine. Results: Among the participants analyzed, two-thirds were between the ages of 20-35, and the majority had a normal BMI (59.6%). Most participants were single, nulliparous, and had never used contraception methods (79.3%, 82.0%, and 93.8%, respectively). Only a small percentage had other risk factors influencing menstrual cycle changes, such as surgical procedures (10.5%) and specific medications (8.10%). Baseline menstrual information was recorded. Forty percent of participants experienced changes in menstrual duration, and approximately one-fifth reported heavier and more severe premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms. Body mass index (BMI) was directly correlated with bleeding intensity after vaccination. Parity was weakly directly proportional to bleeding intensity after vaccination. However, BMI and parity did not significantly correlate with menstrual duration, menstrual cycle length, PMS symptoms, or cramps after vaccination. Conclusion: In a population of young, non-sexually active women with a normal BMI, most participants did not experience significant changes in their menstrual cycles after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Only one-fifth of participants reported shorter duration, heavier bleeding, more frequent, more painful, and more severe PMS symptoms post-vaccination.

Preparation of Transdermal Gel Containing l-Theanine for the Potential Treatment of Premenstrual Syndrome: A Preclinical Study.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is experienced by many women who suffer from either its psychological or physical symptoms. Current treatment is limited to symptomatic therapy or oral contraceptives. On the other hand, l-theanine, which has a relaxant effect, has been reported to be useful for PMS, but its short half-life when administered orally makes it less effective. Permeability and properties of transdermal gel containing l-theanine were evaluated as a preclinical study of PMS symptoms relief formulation. Lyogel composed of stearic acid, stearyl alcohol, and propylene glycol was selected. The ratio of these components and the preparation method were investigated. Permeation of Strat-M membranes was evaluated by using Franz cells (in vitro). Moreover, lyogel was applied to institute of cancer research mice's backs for 10 days to examine the permeability of l-theanine. l-Theanine solution did not permeate the Strat-M membrane at all in the permeation study, but lyogel allowed l-theanine to permeate. When the composition of lyogel was 4.4:11.1:296 (mmol) for stearic acid, stearyl alcohol, and propylene glycol, l-theanine absorption through Strat-M membrane was better. In skin permeation study using mice, l-theanine was detected in the serum, that is, it was proven that l-theanine penetrated the skin. The preparation of transdermal gels contained l-theanine was investigated as a preclinical study. The skin permeability of semisolid formulations of hydrophobic ointments, hydrophilic ointments, oily creams, creams, and lyogel containing theanine was compared and found that lyogel was the best. The composition of lyogel was also studied to obtain a formulation with good application comfort. Although it is suggested that this lyogel could be tested in clinical studies to determine whether it is effective for relief of PMS symptoms, lyogel may be suitable as an easy-to-use l-theanine-containing formulation for women that can relieve PMS symptoms.

The effect of long-term, regular yoga on the pain and quality of life in women with premenstrual syndrome: A randomized controlled, single-blinded trial

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) has been known to have emotional, physical, and behavioral effects in reproductive age. To evaluate the effects of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) on pain and quality of life in women, who perform regular yoga exercises in the long term. 30 women with PMS and 30 control (31.17 ± 5.28 years old) participated in this randomized controlled, single blinded study. The demographics of the PMS and control groups were similar (p < 0.05). A significant difference was found in a depressive mood, anxiety, fatigue, pain, depressive thoughts, sleeping habits subscales, and total scores of the PMSS, WHOQOL-BREF scale, and VAS scores between yoga and control groups (p < 0.05). It is determined that long-term and regular yoga practice for women with PMS will improve their, PMS symptoms, quality of life, and pain level.

Effect of Curcumin on Dysmenorrhea and Symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Dysmenorrhea and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) are common periodic and frequent complications in women of reproductive age that can negatively affect health and quality of life. The present study examined the effects of curcumin on the severity of dysmenorrhea and PMS symptoms. A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was conducted by searching databases such as the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science from inception to January 2023. Article screening was performed using Endnote ver. X8 (Clarivate). Review Manager (RevMan ver. 5.3; Cochrane) was used for the quality assessment and meta-analysis. A total of 147 studies were screened, of which five were finally selected for quantitative and qualitative analyses. The studies were conducted between 2015 and 2021, and a total of 379 participants with a mean age of 23.33±5.54 years had been recruited in these studies. The meta-analysis showed that curcumin consumption could significantly reduce the severity of dysmenorrhea (mean difference, -1.25; 95% confidence interval [CI], -1.52 to -0.98; three studies; I2=31%) and the overall score of PMS (standardized mean difference, -1.41; 95% CI, -1.81 to -1.02; two studies; I2=0%). The reduction in the severity of PMS and dysmenorrhea has been attributed to curcumin's anti-inflammatory and antidepressant activities. Although the findings suggest that curcumin may be an effective treatment for reducing the severity of PMS and dysmenorrhea, further research with a larger number of participants from various socioeconomic levels and a longer duration of treatment is needed to evaluate the effective dose of curcumin.

Effects of Curcuma longa (turmeric) and curcumin on the premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhea: A systematic review

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and dysmenorrhea, in addition to harming the physical and mental health of women, also disrupt their daily life and quality of life. We aimed to investigate the effects and underlying mechanisms of Curcuma longa (turmeric) and curcumin on PMS and dysmenorrhea. PRISMA guideline 2020 was followed for conducting this systematic review. Comprehensive literature searches were conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus. Finally, 17 articles were found after considering the study’s inclusion and exclusion criteria into account. Data were extracted and entered into an Excel file for further investigation and drew the results. Curcuma longa and curcumin affect PMS and dysmenorrhea through various mechanisms. They inhibit the activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and the production of prostaglandins, thus reducing inflammation and pain. Additionally, curcumin’s antioxidant properties protect against oxidative stress, and lipid peroxidation helps maintain hormonal balance, exert analgesic effects, and relieve the symptoms of PMS and dysmenorrhea. They also insert neurotransmitter modulatory properties, such as increased serotonin and dopamine levels, which may contribute to their antidepressant, and sedative effects. Curcuma longa and curcumin indicated promising therapeutic effects in reducing PMS and dysmenorrhea symptoms due to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Although, further well-designed clinical trials are needed to establish their efficacy and optimal dosage.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) occurs recurrently during the luteal phase of a woman's menstrual cycle and disappears after menstruation ends. It is characterized by abnormal changes in both the body and mood, and in certain cases, severe disruptions in daily life and even suicidal tendencies. Current drugs for treating PMS, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, do not yield satisfactory results. Orexin, a neuropeptide produced in the lateral hypothalamus, is garnering attention in the treatment of neurological disorders and is believed to modulate the symptoms of PMS. This paper reviews the advancements in research on sleep disturbances, mood changes, and cognitive impairment caused by PMS, and suggests potential pathways for orexin to address these symptoms. Furthermore, it delves into the role of orexin in the molecular mechanisms underlying PMS. Orexin regulates steroid hormones, and the cyclic fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of PMS. Additionally, orexin also modulates the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) system and the inflammatory response involved in coordinating the mechanism of PMS. Unraveling the role of orexin in the pathogenesis of PMS will not only aid in understanding the etiology of PMS but also hold implications for orexin as a novel target for treating PMS.

Does an alternate-day modified fasting diet improve premenstrual syndrome symptoms and health-related quality of life in obese or overweight women with premenstrual syndrome? A randomized, controlled trial.

Premenstrual syndrome disorder (PMS) is a condition that affects health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and encompasses a variety of symptoms, including psychological, physical, and behavioral symptoms. Some evidence suggests that an increase in body mass index (BMI) can reduce both HRQoL and menstrual quality. This is because the body fat tissue can affect menstrual cycles by changing the estrogen/progesterone ratio. This study investigated the impact of two diets alternate-day modified fasting (ADMF) and daily calorie restriction (DCR) - on PMS syndrome and HRQoL. The study was a randomized controlled, open-label trial that lasted for 8 weeks and involved 60 obese/overweight women. Participants were recruited from the Health Service Centers of Kashan University of Medical Sciences using simple random sampling. The study compared the impact of the ADMF and DCR diets on HRQoL and PMS symptoms. Patients were classified based on their BMI and age and then allocated to either the intervention (ADMF) or control (DCR) group using a random numbers table. The study measured HRQoL, PMS severity, weight, BMI, body fat mass, waist circumference, fat-free mass, and skeletal muscle mass before and after the study. The study had an almost 18% dropout rate. Significant improvements were observed in mood lability (p = 0.044) and expressed anger (p < 0.001) in relation to PMS symptoms. However, no significant differences were detected in the changes of other COPE subscales. The ADMF diet had a significant impact on the 12-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12) total score (p < 0.001) and physical function subscales (p = 0.006) as well as mental health (p < 0.001) when compared to the control diet. This implies that the ADMF diet increased both SF-12 total score and its subscales. The intervention led to improvements in HRQoL, physical function, and mental health. Additionally, significant improvements in BMI and weight were observed between the two groups pre- and post-study (p < 0.001). Anthropometric data, including body fat mass and waist circumference, showed a significant improvement (p < 0.001 and p = 0.029, respectively) before and after the study. However, there were no significant changes in fat-free mass (p = 0.936) and skeletal muscle mass (p = 0.841) between the two groups. The study suggested that ADMF can improve HRQoL, mood lability, and expressed anger. It also showed that ADMF can reduce waist circumference, weight, and body fat mass in obese/overweight women. The Relationship between Knowledge and Stress Levels Facing Premenstrual Syndrome in Class X Female Students at SMK Swasta Alwasliyah 17

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) Is a group of physical, behavioral and emotional symptoms that occur cyclically and repeatedly Around 75% of women complain of symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and 30% of them require treatment. This study aims to identify the relationship between knowledge and stress levels in dealing with pre-menstrual syndrome in class X female students at SMK Swasta Alwasliyah 17, Air Putih District. This type of research is correlational, namely examining the relationship between two variables in a situation or group of subjects, using a cross-sectional approach, namely looking for the relationship between the variables studied. The place of this research was carried out at SMK Swasta Alwasliyah 17, Air Putih District, Batubara Regency. The sample for this research was 30 female students in class X of SMK Swasta Alwasliyah 17. Based on statistical tests, it is known that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and the level of stress in dealing with pre-menstrual syndrome, characterized by a significance value of p-value 0.000 &gt; (0.05) where the p-value is 0.000 and the chi-square value is 48.302. Suggestions in research so that teenagers can increase their knowledge about pre-menstrual syndrome and control excessive stress by learning relaxation techniques to minimize stress.
