The Affecting of Dynamic Capabilities the Export Performance in Vietnam: Digital Leadership - Moderator Impacts

The objective of this is to assess the moderator of digital leadership on dynamic capability and export performance of Vietnamese enterprise. The study is performed on 48 enterprises in the agriculture export sector of Vietnam. After a period of 7 months of data collection and received 429 survey questionnaires, the analysis results show that digital leadership had a positive impact on the relationship of dynamic capability and export performance. At the same time, dynamic capability had a positive impact on export performance. Research results help businesses achieve sustainable innovation performance and improve export performance. The Link between Sustainable Innovation and Industrial Performance: The Case of the United States

Notwithstanding the impact of sustainable innovation on environmental management, its bearing on industrial performance remains hypothetical. Our study seeks to empirically investigate the link between sustainable innovation and industry performance in the United States by employing the generalized method of moments on a nine-year panel spanning from 2014 to 2022. The sample consists of 94 U.S industries, which covers about 7300 companies. The results show that sustainable innovation is not significantly related to industrial performance in the United States. However, it has a moderating effect on industrial output. The Arellano–Bond test, AR (2), confirms the robustness of our findings given the endogeneity assumption and model specifications, and the Hansen test confirms the validity of the instruments. This study expands our knowledge of the link between sustainable innovation and industry performance. A study of this kind is relevant in current times as the United States seeks to attain Sustainable Development Goal 9 by 2030. Further, it provides theoretical guidance on successful environmental management practices to enhance social welfare and maximize output.

How does digital transformation affect sustainable innovation performance? The pivotal roles of digital technology‐business alignment and environmental uncertainty

AbstractDespite the importance of digital transformation in improving sustainable innovation performance, the mechanisms and boundary conditions through which digital transformation affects sustainable innovation performance is unclear. Using the lens of information technology‐enabled organizational capabilities, this study develops a moderated mediation model based on new economic growth theory and information asymmetry theory to examine the impact of digital transformation on sustainable innovation performance. Using a sample of Chinese agriculture firms, our findings reveal that digital transformation positively affects sustainable innovation performance through digital technology‐business alignment, and this indirect effect is stronger when environmental uncertainty is lower. Moreover, environmental uncertainty negatively moderates the relationship between digital transformation and digital technology‐business alignment. Our theoretical explanations and empirical evidence provide insights into how digital transformation initiatives can be leveraged to improve sustainable innovation performance, thus making an important contribution to the related literature.

Dynamic capabilities of the SMEs for sustainable innovation performance: role of environmental turbulence

PurposeThis study aims to investigate how dynamic capabilities, i.e. sensing, learning, integrating and coordinating trigger sustainable innovation performance. It also examines the direct and moderating role of environmental turbulence towards the sustainable innovation performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).Design/methodology/approachThe data were collected through a cross-sectional survey of 169 SMEs in Oman and analysed through structural equation modelling using SmartPLS software.FindingsFindings of this study reveal that the sustainable innovation performance of SMEs is greatly influenced by the synergy of learning, integrating and coordinating capabilities. Notably, among these capabilities, coordinating capability emerges as the most important capability for SMEs with a primary emphasis on fostering both human and organizational well-being. However, this research reveals that building dynamic capabilities alone might not be sufficient to address social, ecological and economic sustainability criteria, and SMEs may need to extend their view beyond internal processes and integrate various environmental contingencies into their approaches while focusing on sustainable innovation performance.Practical implicationsThis research is useful for business managers while allocating resources in their business efficiently and effectively to achieve sustainable innovation performance. It also highlights that SMEs need to integrate various environmental contingencies into their approaches while focusing on sustainable innovation performance.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is one of the first to contribute to SME scholarship by mainly investigating the effect of specific four types of dynamic capabilities on sustainable innovation performance in a turbulent environment. This study is likely to contribute to the SMEs addressing sustainability innovation performance and develop capabilities to be sustainable in a turbulent environment.

THE IMPACT OF EXTERNAL SUPPLY CHAIN AND SUSTAINABLE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE ON THE PRODUCT INNOVATION PERFORMANCE: THE MODERATING ROLES OF INNOVATION TYPE

This study delves into the intricate interplay between external supply chain dynamics, sustainable competitive advantage, innovation types, and product innovation performance. Through a comprehensive exploration, this research seeks to shed light on the relationships and their implications for organizations.
 The conceptual framework was constructed by introducing demographic variables such as position, company type, capitalization, etc. The minimum acceptable sample size for this study was calculated to be 384 and 520 valid questionnaires were distributed and returned to the companies in different industries through stratified sampling method, and hypotheses were formulated. Through related research, it was concluded that there is a strong positive relationship between the effectiveness of the external supply chain and the product innovation performance of an organization, there is a significant positive relationship between sustainable competitive advantage and product innovation performance, and innovation type does not have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between the external supply chain and product innovation performance. This study lays the groundwork for future research to explore deeper nuances in external supply chains, sustainable competitive advantage, and innovation types to enrich the collective knowledge of innovation and supply chain management.

Sustainable supply chain performance lesson from Malaysian manufacturing firms

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the impact of sustainable innovation and disruptive innovation on sustainable supply chain performance of manufacturing firms in Malaysia. The study also examined the moderating role of supply chain clockspeed in the relationship between sustainable innovation, disruptive innovation and sustainable supply chain performance.Design/methodology/approachThe data were collected from 231 respondents in manufacturing firms in Malaysia. The data were analyzed using the partial least square-based structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique.FindingsThe findings revealed that sustainable innovation and disruptive innovation had a significant and positive effect on sustainable supply chain performance. Supply chain clockspeed moderated the relationship between sustainable innovation and sustainable supply chain performance. The findings also identified that there was no moderating effect on the relationship between disruptive innovation and sustainable supply chain performance.Research limitations/implicationsThis study merely focuses on sustainable supply chain performance in Malaysian manufacturing firms. Samples from manufacturing firms in Malaysia were used in the current study, and the outcomes may vary for different nations.Practical implicationsTo increase the firm’s commercial success, it is necessary to promote sustainable supply chain practices, including supply chain clockspeed, sustainable innovation and disruptive innovation.Originality/valueThis study adds to the body of knowledge by explaining the positive influence of sustainable innovation and disruptive innovation on sustainable supply chain performance in Malaysian manufacturing firms while also emphasizing the moderating role of supply chain clockspeed in this relationship. The contribution of this study could enable managers to develop sustainable supply chain performance in the manufacturing sector, based on sustainable innovation, disruptive innovation and supply chain clockspeed.

A validated measurement scale for sustainable product innovation performance

Measuring sustainable innovation is one of the most prominent issues in the literature on sustainable innovation. Although there are some studies on measuring environmental innovation, research on measuring sustainable innovation is at a primitive stage and has not yet reached the expected maturity. The purpose of this study is to develop a validated scale for measuring sustainable product innovation performance. For this purpose, literature was thoroughly reviewed to obtain measurement items and a web-based questionnaire was prepared to collect data from manufacturing companies in Turkey. The scale development process was followed to obtain the final measurement scale by using explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The scale is the first known validated scale to measure sustainable product innovation performance in manufacturing companies. This scale can be used by researchers working on sustainable innovation to test the relationships between various organizational concepts and by manufacturing executives to evaluate the sustainable product innovation performance of their organizations.

IMPLEMENTATION OF CORPORATE INNOVATION SYSTEM MODEL: CASE STUDY

Purpose- Corporate Innovation Systems (CIS) should be established for innovation to be managed effectively and sustainably in organizations as a means of global competition. There is a need for system designs that allow this process, which is iterative, interactive and risky by its nature, to be managed in a way that reflects the strategies, culture and original structure of the company. In this study, it is aimed to examine the phases followed within the scope of the corporate innovation system model applied in the focused innovation mentoring program attended by a company in ISO500. Methodology- The corporate innovation system was examined in depth with the case study of qualitative research techniques. It is possible to make theoretical propositions by making analytical generalizations with the case study method. For this reason, data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews to examine the corporate innovation system in the company within the scope of the study. Findings- It is seen that the participatory approach is exhibited in the adaptation of the CIS model proposed in the innovation management system design within the company, it focuses on competence development, a transparent and fair idea management system is designed, project management principles are applied, and an inclusive distribution of responsibilities is realized through committees. Conclusion- To provide sustainable innovation performance in companies, there is a need to create corporate innovation systems that are open to continuous improvement and development, in which the original characteristics of the institution are reflected, senior management support is provided, extended to internal and external stakeholders, a common language and perception are created. How digital platform capabilities improve sustainable innovation performance of firms: The mediating role of open innovation

Despite growing research interests in digital platform-based innovation, the existing literature has largely focused on the role of digital platform capabilities in improving economic outcomes, with only limited understanding of whether and how digital platform capabilities affect sustainability-oriented innovations. With the data from a sample of 347 firms, this study first shows that digital platform integration capability and digital platform reconfiguration capability enhance sustainability-oriented innovation through open innovation. Using the polynomial regression with response surface analysis, this study further shows that sustainability-oriented innovation improves more when inbound open innovation and outbound open innovation increase in a balanced way but decreases when inbound and outbound innovation increase in an unbalanced way. The findings of this study contribute to a better understanding of why companies with digital platform capabilities perform better in sustainability-oriented innovation and provide new insights on how a firm can achieve better sustainability-oriented innovation to effectively address sustainability challenges.

A fuzzy synthetic evaluation approach for climate for innovation measurement in construction firms

PurposeThis research aims to identify the climate for innovation variables and to propose an innovative tool to quantitatively assess the degree of climate for innovation of construction firms.Design/methodology/approach14 climate-for-innovation variables were identified from a literature review and discussion with experienced practitioners. After that, a questionnaire survey was developed to collect data. Factor analysis was used to analyze data gathered from 157 completed responses. Then, fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE) was employed to assess the degree of climate for innovation in Vietnamese construction firms.FindingsClimate-for-innovation variables were categorized into four factors by factor analysis. The FSE analysis shows leadership is the most critical category of four factors, followed by working culture, organization and employee commitment. The calculation also illustrates that the climate for innovation in Vietnamese construction firms is at a moderate level.Originality/valueThis research is one of the first integrated climate for innovation of construction firms in a comprehensive formulation. The formulation provides the decision-makers with a reliable tool to evaluate the degree of climate for innovation, thus having appropriate strategies to develop sustainable innovation performance within their organizations.

Sustainable Innovation and Firm Performance Driven by FinTech Policies: Moderating Effect of Capital Adequacy Ratio

This study empirically investigated the role played by government policy in the financial industry in promoting sustainable innovation, business performance, and risk management. An original dataset, comprising data from the Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ), Taiwan Patent Search System, and company annual reports from the period 2015–2019 was used to analyze the effects of government policy on the financial industry in Taiwan. The research results showed that a firm’s sustainable commitment is conducive to its business growth and does not increase its risk in the financial industry. The financial industry can report on FinTech news that highlights business growth, while companies with high capital adequacy rates are better equipped to manage the risks associated with innovation commitment. Financial companies are suggested to engage in sustainable innovation and thus improve their profitability. In addition, policymakers should mandate that financial companies increase their capital adequacy ratios, improve their risk-bearing capacity, and maintain financial market stability.

The influence of firm digitalization on sustainable innovation performance and the moderating role of corporate sustainability practices: An empirical investigation

AbstractThis paper seeks to shed light on the relationship between firm digitalization and the likelihood of launching sustainable innovations (social and environmental, social only, and environmental only), for which the extant research has provided a paucity of evidence. In detail, the role of digitalization is considered in terms of (i) the specific effect of a given digital technology (DT)—among artificial intelligence, cloud computing, robotics, smart devices, big data analytics, high speed infrastructure, and blockchain—and (ii) the effect of the concurrent adoption of multiple DTs (degree of digitalization). Furthermore, the paper assesses if and how the effect of the degree of digitalization is moderated by the implementation of sustainability practices, as the two issues are often treated independently. Research questions are proposed instead of hypotheses. Econometric analysis to answer proposed questions is based on a sample of 14,125 firms, whose information is gathered from the survey Flash Eurobarometer 486. Results reveal that each DT differently affects the likelihood of launching sustainable innovations, while the degree of digitalization is always beneficial. Moreover, it appears that firm digitalization and the adoption of sustainability practices are not complementary. All in all, this paper helps to illuminate current representations of the interplay between digitalization, sustainability practices, and sustainable innovations at the firm level, with implications for research, managerial practice, and policymaking.

The relationships between economic orientation, sustainable product design and innovation performance: Empirical evidence from the US manufacturing firms

Growing corporate social responsibility requirements have compelled manufacturing organizations to embed sustainability in their business models. Consequently, firms focus on designing and producing products using sustainable means to bring new products to the market that are environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. However, to satisfy investors, it is also necessary to focus on financial priorities. This research presents a model with relationships between an organization's economic orientation, sustainable product design activities, and firm innovation performance to study how financial priorities affect sustainability initiatives in new product development and innovation outcomes. The empirical evidence is drawn from a panel survey of 282 US manufacturing firms. The results suggest strong interrelationships among the three constructs under investigation. The practitioners can pursue economic orientation and still focus on sustainable product design to achieve innovation performance.

Estimation of sustainable innovation performance in European Union countries: Based on the perspective of energy and environmental constraints

European Union (EU) has long attached importance to innovation strategies, from the Lisbon strategy to the EU 2020 strategy. The evaluation of sustainable innovation efficiency (SIE) of EU countries aids in defining institutional and policy actions to enhance environmentally friendly innovation in the EU, and is essential and appropriate. Through the data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach, this paper measures the SIE in 27 EU countries, from 2000 to 2017, considering industrial waste and total energy consumption. The results show that the sustainable innovation efficiency among countries differs significantly. Only eight countries consistently have an efficient value of 1 during this period. The EU as a whole has a high efficiency value of 0.7403, but there are obvious differences among the five regions. Efficiency values in the north and south are consistently higher than the EU’s average efficiency value. The results also show that undesirable outputs lead to the reduction of innovation efficiency in most regions. The findings also provide policy makers with useful decision support insights for regional sustainable innovation, energy conservation and emission reduction policies. In addition, sustainable innovation governance should continue to be strengthened to promote and support the improvement of SIE.

Determinants of sustainable financial and innovation performance: a panel data analysis of Indian manufacturing SMEs

The contribution of Indian manufacturing small and medium enterprises to the gross domestic product has been consistently falling across the last few years as they have been struggling to survive and scale up due to a host of factors. This study aims to provide important implications to improve their competitive position by trying to identify the determinants which influence the two critical indicators of sustainable firm performance-sustainable financial performance and sustainable innovation performance. To do so, we empirically analyse 486 R&D conducting SME manufacturing firms from the firm-level data for the period of 2006-2017. Our results indicate that the determinants have a disparate impact on both types of sustainable firm performance. The study reveals important theoretical as well as practical insights for the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of manufacturing SMEs.

Purpose of the article The paper aims to identify approaches to understanding CSR, emphasizing the importance of strategic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the context of sustainable innovation performance. The paper answers two main questions: what is strategic CSR, i.e. what does a system integrating a strategic approach to CSR look like and when is the right moment to change the way of management, align the interests of stakeholders and take steps to change (to introduce or develop a selected concept, system, model, etc.)? Methodology/methods Based on the analysis of publications, studies, managerial methods and tools, the article proposes a possible procedure for an framework linking corporate responsibility with innovations, which can be beneficial for aligning the interests of all stakeholders in an organization. The contribution is based also on the relationship between quality and CSR, also because CSR is the part of quality management concepts based on continuous improvement and increase efficiency and effectiveness of business operations. Scientific aim The intention is to raise awareness and develop the application of the strategic -based CSR concept as the compliance model in order to ensure an effective system in organizations. The task is to identify a performance tool that can be used by SMEs for the benefit of harmonizing requirements, interests and expectations within the framework of developing business activities. Findings CSR as a model for aligning the interests and strategic activities of a company is an ideal concept even for smaller companies. Companies without systematic application of management tools in their processes, such as self assessment, will not be competitive. The article presents a proposal for a concept of developing system and informs about the self assessment as the method of sustainable model of compliance management. A framework has been constructed that allows identifying when an SME should take action and change its approach in managing its activities, i.e. where he is on the path of reconciling interests and requirements. Conclusions (limits, implications etc.) The compiled CSR maturity grid has the potential to strengthen the economic, social and environmental cohesion of SMEs, to strengthen continuous improvement, and last but not least, it contributes in a fundamental way to the sustainability of the system, i.e. it is understood as a method of managing the sustainable development of a competitive business. The contribution has certain limitations and for this reason it is also desirable to develop a self-assessment tool for effective compliance management of companies and also to carry out studies on the possibilities of applying strategic CSR in companies of various industries.

SMEs’ sustainable innovation performance during pandemic: impact of knowledge coupling and parallel-mediation of ambidexterity and market capitalising agility

ABSTRACT Covid-19 pandemic has caused crisis and uncertainty which adversely influenced innovation performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Innovation is a primary source of survival and growth in SMEs; therefore, this study aims to develop and empirically analyse conceptual model that sustains innovation performance of SMEs during the pandemic. This study integrates knowledge-based view (KBV) with a self-tuning model to examine Chinese manufacturing SMEs. Survey data of 306 responses were collected from the top and mid management and analysed through Smart-PLS 3. Results indicate a positive effect of knowledge coupling on innovation performance; besides, ambidexterity and market capitalising agility (MCA) positively mediate between knowledge coupling and SME innovation performance. This study contributes to KBV, self-tuning, strategy, innovation and crisis management literature. To practitioners, this study advises developing dynamic capabilities to sustain innovations during pandemic crisis. This is the earliest empirical examination to mediate the effect of knowledge coupling on innovation performance through ambidexterity and MCA during a crisis.

The Impact of Sustainable Input on Regional Innovation Performance: Moderating Effects of Policy Support and Cultural Value

Innovation, an internal drive promoting regional sustainable economic development, has received great attention around the world. The goal of this paper is to explore the relationship between sustainable input and regional innovation performance under the moderating effects of policy support and cultural value in various regions in China. This paper uses Schwartz’s cultural dimensions and data from 31 Chinese provinces (2006–2018) to empirically examine the relationships of interest. Based on the 403 total samples, the results reveal that innovation input has a significantly positive impact on regional innovation performance, and policy support positively moderates the relationship between regional innovation input and innovation performance. Further, with regard to cultural values, embeddedness (vs. autonomy) negatively moderates the relationship between sustainable input and innovation performance, while egalitarianism (vs. hierarchy) and mastery (vs. harmony) positively moderate this relationship. We discuss the implications of our findings for policy.
