Over-indebtedness is a reality that affects many Brazilian consumers, characterized by the inability to pay all debts without compromising the minimum necessary for subsistence. In response to this social issue, Law No. 14,181/2021, known as the "Over-Indebtedness Law," came into effect in July 2021. This research aims to analyze the impacts of this legislation on the treatment and prevention of over-indebtedness, focusing on its legal innovations, protection mechanisms, and preventive and corrective measures. Through a bibliographic and jurisprudential approach, the study reveals that the law promotes greater transparency in credit granting, encourages debt renegotiation, and reinforces the preservation of human dignity. The findings highlight significant contributions to sustainable financial inclusion and a reduction in new cases of over-indebtedness.
