Impact of Industrialisation on Sustainability of Natural Environment and Tribal Communities in Odisha, India

Based on an empirical exploration, the dominant objective of the paper is to understand the impact of industrial projects, for example, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) on the sustainability of tribal communities as well as the surrounding natural environment. The contemporary industrial project has devastated the natural capital through its industrial practices, such as over-extraction of natural resources, over-passage of decomposed wastes, contamination of water bodies, inordinate drilling out of groundwater, etc., without any concern for the existence of nature as well as the rich culture developed by the tribal communities. In this context, the study unearths an empirical understanding of NALCO in Koraput, Odisha, and its impact on the sustainability of the tribal village communities as well as their symbiotic relationship with the natural environment. The empirical investigation has been conducted in selected tribal villages located in and around the NALCO.

Natural environment approach in interior design of healthy food and information center

Public health is currently the government’s concern, especially during the pandemic, so the existence of an information and education center about healthy food is needed. A forum that facilitates the community is needed to add information and education about healthy food functionally and visually. The methods used in this research area literature study, interviews, and site surveys. The purpose of this research is to obtain data as a deepening of the design so that it has a strong basis and could give a good impact on all parties. The design applies a natural environment approach as a healthy environment by applying biophilic through the use of green plants and food ingredients. The result of this research is the interior design of the Healthy Food Information and Education Center with a natural environment approach as a healthy environment by implementing indoor plants and environmentally friendly materials for interior elements. The application of both indoor plants and environmentally friendly materials in space as a healthy natural environment is to strengthen the identity of healthy food and to accommodate the user and the interior interactions to improve the quality of individual and environmental health. It is expected that the sustainability of natural environment could potentially support and contribute to healthy environment in future.

Identification of Some Research Gaps in Green Human Resource Management

Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) is increasingly considered as a critical branch of Human Resource Management (HRM) and it is still an emerging field of research that is interesting and highly instrumental in creating and enhancing natural environmental sustainability. This research paper is a systematic attempt to find out some research gaps in GHRM in order to carry out future empirical studies through the adoption of desk research strategy. An extensive literature review was done and it resulted in identifying nine research gaps in GHRM. Among the nine research gaps, two gaps are empirical, six gaps are both theoretical and empirical, and one gap is methodological. Future research studies could be designed and carried out in order to fill these identified research gaps.

Empirical Study of Urban Development Evaluation Indicators Based on the Urban Metabolism Concept

Sustainable development is the concept of coordinating people and the environment and achieves contemporary development without compromising the interests of the next generation. It can also be thought of as not exceeding the biosphere’s carrying capacity. Urban metabolism emphasizes resource recycling and use to achieve balance between resource input and product output in urban areas. However, the scale of cities has expanded rapidly in recent years along with resource and energy demands. Waste and pollution also cause major threats to the environment and ecology. Given increasingly serious environmental problems, the original linear metabolism must be converted into a cyclical one to ensure urban sustainability. From the policy implementation report of Taipei City, this study used the fuzzy Delphi method to develop evaluation factors and integrated this with the analytic network process decision-making tool to determine the priority weights of each policy and evaluate development strategies for urban development based on the metabolism concept. The study results reveal that natural environmental sustainability and sustainable energy strategies were prioritized plans for evaluating urban development with the metabolism concept, and the results can be used as a reference for future urban development strategies.

An Overview of Environmental Challenges Stifling Sustainable Livelihood in Rural Nigeria

General consensus is that Nigeria environment is being degraded but the implications of this on the livelihood of majority of the populace who inhabited the rural areas is usually ignored as they are the voiceless, as voices are only raised when tragedy struck in major cities. Through review of literatures this paper identified environmental problems threatening sustainable rural livelihood in Nigeria to include deforestation, desertification, drought, environmental pollution and climate change. These problems arose from natural and human-made threats and direct and indirect consequences of socio-economic development. This paper argued that listening to the voices of the rural poor is essential in the fight to reduce poverty and resource-scarcity induced conflicts. As the progress whatever the Nigeria nation has made so far has largely been achieved at the detriment of the rural poor. It was reiterated that complete evaluation of environmental degradation should consider the roles marginalization of rural poor, poverty and unsustainable agricultural practices played in undermining achievement of effective environmental protection and management in rural Nigeria. The paper concluded that policies that will bridge increasing gap between rural and urban areas, poor and the rich will go a long way in ensuring sustainability of natural environment.

Biomimetics as an Approach to Sustainability of Architectural Designs

The universe around us stands as a proof of the greatness of God. Everything around us, small or huge, tiny or great, all confirms the fact that this universe has a creator who initiated it and keeps running and maintaining it. No one can ignore such a fact. All aspects of beauty and perfection have been created by Allah.Despite the vast technological and scientific development that humanity witnesses these days, we still discover new indications of God's creativity and miraculous formations every day. This was a source of inspiration for architectural designers that made them come up with new inventions and creations that help regeneration and natural environmental sustainability. Many architects try to copy nature in their designs as they believe that the biomimetic approach is considered the design approach that best preserves the environment and sustains buildings. The absence of a clear definition of different approaches of biomimetic designs of various architectural works is one of the stumbling blocks that face many developers of architectural trends and architectural designers in particular. The research problem is summarized by highlighting various biomimetic approaches of architectural designs through reviewing all previous theories and researches and also studying biomimetic technologies that lead to different results as an introduction to sustainability.

This research sheds some light on a vision that took place in fall2014 at the department of architecture, Effat University, KSA. A senior studio (studio7) was targeted to explore the potential of weaving the “Biomimicry” approach within the syllabus of that studio. This initiative had been proposed by the team supervising this studio as an exploratory one before the call from “Makkah Techno-valley Company (MTV)” to design a Research Center (RIM) was launched. The RIM project aspires to play a major role in offering a support- ive environment for youth in Saudi Arabia enhancing their abilities and developing their skills to experience achievement within “MTV” main campus. The study aimed at exploring the possibilities of implementing such an approach within a GCC country with its entire unique educational context.

Unhealthy competition among economic actors, and exploitation of natural resources without preservation,<br />caused a complicated problem in the community. Poor-quality education, especially in moral and religious<br />education, to be one of the causes of these problems. Therefore, the existence of boarding school as an<br />educational institution based on Islam is expected to be a solution to decline moral values and religion in this<br />nation. Through a combination of formal and religious education at a boarding school will provide a strong<br />mental training for the formation of individual intelligent and noble. In addition, a boarding school with speech<br />entrepreneurship curriculum in the education system, can provide an added value to the institution.<br />Prospective employers are responsible for each other and the environment, and economic actors are honest<br />and committed. Entrepreneur Boarding can be part of an effort to maintain the sustainability of resources,<br />both natural and human resources. Sustainable development, as the purpose of the object, is a theme that<br />describes every aspect of the design object. Sustainable development has three principles of sustainability; the<br />natural environment sustainability, social sustainability and economic sustainability. Starting from the planning<br />of design, the building process, until the use of the building, always accompanied by the consideration of the<br />three aspects of sustainability. Through the application of sustainable development as the design theme of the<br />boarding school entrepreneurs will produce buildings that are environmentally and socially friendly, in addition<br />to continue to provide investment for owners, users, and the surrounding community. <br /><br />
