Landscape analysis of available European data sources amenable for machine learning and recommendations on usability for rare diseases screening

BackgroundPatient registries and databases are essential tools for advancing clinical research in the area of rare diseases, as well as for enhancing patient care and healthcare planning. The primary aim of this study is a landscape analysis of available European data sources amenable to machine learning (ML) and their usability for Rare Diseases screening, in terms of findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable(FAIR), legal, and business considerations. Second, recommendations will be proposed to provide a better understanding of the health data ecosystem.MethodsIn the period of March 2022 to December 2022, a cross-sectional study using a semi-structured questionnaire was conducted among potential respondents, identified as main contact person of a health-related databases. The design of the self-completed questionnaire survey instrument was based on information drawn from relevant scientific publications, quantitative and qualitative research, and scoping review on challenges in mapping European rare disease (RD) databases. To determine database characteristics associated with the adherence to the FAIR principles, legal and business aspects of database management Bayesian models were fitted.ResultsIn total, 330 unique replies were processed and analyzed, reflecting the same number of distinct databases (no duplicates included). In terms of geographical scope, we observed 24.2% (n = 80) national, 10.0% (n = 33) regional, 8.8% (n = 29) European, and 5.5% (n = 18) international registries coordinated in Europe. Over 80.0% (n = 269) of the databases were still active, with approximately 60.0% (n = 191) established after the year 2000 and 71.0% last collected new data in 2022. Regarding their geographical scope, European registries were associated with the highest overall FAIR adherence, while registries with regional and “other” geographical scope were ranked at the bottom of the list with the lowest proportion. Responders’ willingness to share data as a contribution to the goals of the Screen4Care project was evaluated at the end of the survey. This question was completed by 108 respondents; however, only 18 of them (16.7%) expressed a direct willingness to contribute to the project by sharing their databases. Among them, an equal split between pro-bono and paid services was observed.ConclusionsThe most important results of our study demonstrate not enough sufficient FAIR principles adherence and low willingness of the EU health databases to share patient information, combined with some legislation incapacities, resulting in barriers to the secondary use of data.

This research aims to assess the influence of social media characteristics, risk perception, and financial literacy on investment decisions in the capital market among millennials in Tangerang. This research uses quantitative methods. The data collection approach uses a questionnaire survey instrument. Participants in this research are individuals who carry out transactions in the capital market, sometimes referred to as respondents or consumers. A total of 106 respondents were involved in this research, selected using a simple random sampling technique. The analytical methods used include Descriptive Analysis and Partial Least Square (PLS) Analysis. Research findings show that social media, Risk perception, and financial literacy have a big influence on investment decisions of the millennial generation in the Tangerang capital market.

The Influence of Training and Development on Employee Performance in Port of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman

Salalah Port is considered an important contributor to the economic development of Oman in terms of generating revenue from the non-oil sector and employing local Omanis. This study aims to examine the impact of training and development on employee performance in Salalah Port in Oman. To achieve this objective a positivist research paradigm, a deductive approach, a quantitative research strategy, and a simple random sampling technique were employed. A survey questionnaire instrument was employed to collect data from 219 employees working at Salalah Port in Oman. For analyzing the data, the SPSS v23 was used to test the proposed hypotheses. The revealed results indicated that Training Needs Assessment, Training Method, and Training Effectiveness have a significant on employee performance. However, concluded that training and development play a major role in making employee performance effective and efficient. Effectiveness and efficiency in performing job roles contribute to organizational growth.

Healthcare Technology Transfer in Sub-Saharan Africa: Conceptual Framework Evaluation

The research presented within this article sets out to evaluate a conceptual framework, consisting of five phases, aimed at facilitating health-related technology transfer to and within sub-Saharan African countries. The framework is constructed using a grounded theory process and is subsequently quantitively evaluated via a questionnaire survey instrument with two five-point Likert Scale measurement items namely perceived ease of use and usefulness. The survey addresses practicality via a frequency analysis with the framework receiving a perceived ease of use score of 2.992 and a usefulness score of 4.032. The survey instrument addresses the versatility of the conceptual framework's intended geographic application area through a variance analysis. For the perceived ease of use measurement item, Western and Central Africa received statistically significant p-values of 0.01178 and 0.02288, respectively, highlighting discrepancies in perceived ease of use within the first two phases of the conceptual framework. No statistically significant variances are uncovered with respect to the usefulness measurement item. The final evaluation measure addresses utility via a regression analysis with the relationship between technology adoption and the five phases receiving p-values ranging from 0.643, 0.694, 0.751, 0.715, and 0.927.

Solid Waste Management Practices of Philippine Christian University-Manila

Production of solid waste will never have an end. And it will continue to pose as a challenge from generation to generation. Some of the impacts of solid waste are immediate, others are long term. And these are the reasons why solid waste should be properly and well managed- on a day to day basis, following a program anchored on the principles of sustainable development. This study aimed to determine the solid wastes management practices in terms of reuse, reduce, recycling, collection, and treatment in Philippine Christian University basis for Material Recovery Facility. Faculty and staff of the department of Natural Sciences provided the necessary data for waste management practices in terms of treatment This is a descriptive-survey type of research. The study used survey-questionnaire instrument adopted from Gequinto (2016) with minor modification. The respondents of the study are the Administrators, Faculty, Staff, Concessionaires and Students of Philippine Christian University. Results revealed that Solid Waste Management Practices are implemented to a Moderate extent with a composite mean of 2.95. Among the practices, waste treatment got the highest composite mean which was assessed by the Natural science faculty and staff 4.12 (Implemented to a great extent) while wastes recycling got the lowest 2.68(Implemented to a Moderate extent). The study recommended the following: Formation of consultants who will do thorough campus planning and resource recovery; Information dissemination regarding recyclables that are available for recovery; Enforce waste segregation and develop a composting program; Create a sustainable practices policy in order to achieve Zero Waste by 2020 and to consider Material Recovery Facility be a part of the solid waste system of the university and should not be considered as a stand-alone facility. In line with these, the researchers proposed a Material Recovery Facility Plan in response to the challenge as stated in the Sustainable Development Goal of 2030 that gives importance on environmental preservation and sanitation.

Pros and Cons of Semester System Program under the faculty of education TU

This article deals with the pros and cons of the Semester System Program under the Faculty of Education, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. This study has sought to understand and analyze students’ perception towards semester system taking a case of the Faculty of Education related campuses with regard to (a) academic resources, (b) physical resources, (c) governance and image, and (d) overall perception of students and teachers. It followed descriptive research design using questionnaire survey instrument, sematic-chart and check lists. Only one constituent campus was selected in Kathmandu through purposive under non-probability sampling procedure for this study. 
 From this study, it was found that the semester system is better than annual system in terms use of better teaching equipment, efficiency of teachers and students’ performance and results. But in semester system, students’ participation in teaching learning activities has increased, they have improved skills in using electronic tools and presenting skills. Even teachers’ knowledge in using software improved. Although most of the classes under semester system were better equipped, they still lack required equipment and even skilled teachers. Similarly, the campuses running semester system were found facing shortage of budget for the sustainability of the programme. As it was taking months to publish results, it needs correction so that the students get their exam results in time.
 Moreover, the academic calendar was not followed duly. Likewise, those students who did not meet 80 per cent attendance were also allowed to fill up exam forms and this tendency culminated in poor results and lack of disciplined not only among students but the whole system. Unless these shortcomings are corrected, the semester cannot be effective as was expected during its introduction in 2016.

The Influence of Leadership and Work Discipline on PT Ammana Fintek Syariah Employee Performance

The research aims to test leadership, whether work discipline affects employee performance, namely the performance of PT Ammana Fintek Syariah employees. The research method uses a quantitative approach, by collecting data using primary data, secondary data for Personnel Managers and library research. Primary data uses all employees at PT Ammana Fintek Syariah as many as 30 respondents. Data collection techniques using interviews and questionnaire instruments. The questionnaire survey instrument was delivered to employees of PT Ammana Fintek Syariah. Data were analyzed using the SPSS model to test the significance of the influence of leadership and work discipline on employee performance. The results of the study show that leadership, work discipline has a significant positive effect on employee performance, both partially and simultaneously. Leadership as the most important factor influencing employee performance. The managerial implication is that an organization or leader must develop a harmonious work culture and work discipline for employees to achieve their best performance

The development of a human capital measurement and disclosure research instrument for the Zimbabwean mining companies

"Purpose: The aim of this study is to develop a research instrument to measure and disclose human capital value in the financial statements. The study has been motivated by a lack of guidelines that determine key aspects of human capital despite its contribution to value creation and financial performance. Methodology: This study adopted a post-positivist research philosophy which endorses a quantitative research approach. Quantitative data were collected using the survey questionnaire instrument from the six listed mining companies in Zimbabwe. A convenience sampling technique was utilised and a human capital measurement and disclosure instrument was validated using the exploratory factor analysis. Findings: The paper established eight factors namely; human capital measurements, profitability measures, employee competencies, value drivers, performance-related factors, market-related factors, employee exposures and structure-related factors. The developed questionnaire instrument can be of use to other scholars and policymakers if their studies are aiming to investigate the respondents’ perceptions towards human capital reporting. This will also, provide a basis for the development of a standardised universal approach to measuring human capital value. The Impact of Multilingualism on Social Studies Class and Its Potential to Enhance Social Cohesion

This study examines the challenges and opportunities associated with the implementation of a multilingual approach in social studies classes at Baguio Central University during the short-term school year 2022-2023. It involved a sample of 61 participants who were currently enrolled in social studies classes. This study utilized a survey questionnaire instrument to gather data on students' perceptions regarding the advantages and difficulties associated with the integration of a multilingual approach in their academic curriculum. The aim of this study is to provide valuable insights into the field of multilingual education and its effects on student learning in the context of social studies. Findings demonstrate a significant consensus among participants regarding the superiority of incorporating multiple languages in social studies education, surpassing any possible obstacles. It also acknowledges the challenges associated with limited teacher training in multiple languages yet highlights the resounding endorsement of a multilingual approach by students. The study's results provide support for the incorporation of multilingual methodologies into social studies education, highlighting their capacity to enhance students' cultural awareness and global competency.

The Effect of Human Resources Practices on Sport Organization’s Performance in Oman: The Mediating Role of Leadership Style

Purpose: This paper examines the impact of human resource management (HRM) practices on organizational performance, with mediating role of leadership style. Theoretical framework: This study integrates theoretical perspectives on HRM practices Namely (the recruitment selection process, incentive system, and training & development), Leadership style and organisational performance. The conceptual model for this study was developed based on previous research in the field of HRM practices and leadership styles globally. The conceptual model has HRM practices as an independent variable (IV), Leadership style as a mediator and organisational performance as a dependent variable (DV). Design/Methodology/Approach: A survey questionnaire instrument was employed to collect data from 156 employees working at sport organisations in Oman. SPSS was used for analysing the data, and Smart-PLS were used to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings: The result revealed that human resource practices are significantly related to organisational performance. Also, leadership styles mediated the influence of HRM practises on organisational performance. Research, practical & social implications: The finding of this study provides valuable insights into sport organisations in Oman can enhance their HRM practices to improve organisational performance and achieve their goals. Moreover, it has been recommended that organizations use a leadership style that enhances organizational performance. The results come from a cross-sectional study which was done at the convenience of the researcher. The results may not be generalized across the country. The application of the results to other organisations must be done with maximum care. Originality/Value: This study adds to the literature on the effectiveness of HRM practices, Leadership style in enhancing organisational performance in a specific context namely the sport organisations in Oman. The study also highlights the mediating role of leadership style in the relationship between HRM practices and organisational performance.

Visual Representations in Teaching Mathematics

Visual representations are used in mathematics to help students solve problems or understand abstract ideas. Most of the students hate Mathematics because it’s hard for them to solve problems. In order for students to start loving Mathematics, teachers should find ways to make their lessons easier, simpler, and at the same time creative for their students. The study aimed to determine the extent of utilization of visual representations in teaching mathematics, such as diagrams, computer graphics, and physical models, in relation to the students’ beliefs, views, and preference level in solving problems. This study utilized the descriptive method with the aid of the survey questionnaire instrument for data gathering. The mathematics instructors often utilized the visual representations as to diagrams, computer graphics, and physical models and it was significantly correlated to the students’ views, beliefs, and preference level in solving math problems. Mainstream use of other visual representations to determine its effectiveness on students’ academic performance.

The Strength of Corporate Governance Metrics on Organizational Performance of Nepalese Telecom Industry

The purpose of the study was to understand and analyze the strength of corporate governance (CG) on organizational performance (OP) of the Nepalese telecom industry from the employees' perspective. It adhered to a descriptive study approach and employed an organized questionnaire survey instrument. Two market-leading telecommunication service provider companies of Nepal, Ncell and Nepal Telecom, and their employees were considered the object of the study. It collected 387 responses through a random sampling method. The survey instrument included 18 items and was divided into three segments to collect required data that was processed with the help of SPSS and AMOS software. The study identified nine observable CG performance metrics inside two latent variables, management and leadership (ML) and management competency (MC), to evaluate CG performance and revealed that each performance metric offers a partial explanation for the synergistic effects on OP. The study's findings provided evidence to previous studies that CG performance positively and significantly affects the OP. In addition, the results of the study would deliver useful suggestions for comprehending the primary drivers of CG performance metrics in the Nepalese context.

The impact of electronic banking services on the use of technology by customers of conventional and Islamic banks in Jordan

The aim of this study was to examine and determine the impact of electronic banking services on the use of technology by customers of conventional and Islamic banks in Jordan. For the current study, a random sample of 580 customers in Jordanian conventional and Islamic banks was selected using the quantitative research methodology, and in order to gather the necessary data, the study employed a survey questionnaire instrument that was developed based on the earlier relevant literature and studies. The results of this study showed that perceived ease of use (PEU), perceived utility (PU), simplicity of use (SU), and social influence (SI) all significantly affected the use of technology in Jordanian conventional and Islamic banks.

Perception of dental students regarding possible career challenges and associated factors towards working in rural areas: A questionnaire based survey.

The shortage of health care professionals in rural areas contributes toward discriminatory health care delivery. The present study was planned with a similar intent and aimed to evaluate the perception of dental students regarding their future in rural areas. The present study was designed as a cross-sectional study comprising of a 30-item questionnaire survey instrument distributed among a total of 550 dental students while the results obtained were subjected to statistical analysis. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 12.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Independent student's t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for comparison among the variables while the Chi-square test was used to determine the association between the variables. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. No significant difference was observed in the attitude based on gender (P = 0.43), although, a statistically significant difference was observed in the attitude of students based on the year of their education with a positive attitude toward rural dental practice generally noted in the first year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students which significantly declined with the increasing level of education (P = 0.01). Dental students were more influenced by the negative aspects of rural dental practice though they had, in their mind, a positive approach for the same at the beginning of their education, but this significantly declined with the increasing level of their education.

Effects of financial literacy and financial behavior on the financial well-being of teachers in higher education institutions in Region 1, Philippines

This study explored the effects of financial literacy and financial behavior on the financial well-being of 360 academic personnel of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Region 1, Philippines. Data were gathered from August 2020 to March 2021 using a self-administered survey questionnaire instrument. This was used to assess the respondents' financial well-being, literacy, and financial behavior, and Pearson’s r was used to test the relationships among the variables. It was found that most of the teachers generally experience moderate financial security rather than financial stress. They were assessed with excellent scores on their financial literacy and most were found to have good financial behavior. It was determined that their financial behavior affected their financial well-being. On the other hand, their financial literacy did not significantly affect their financial well-being. Hence, this study recommends that a financial wellness program tailored for the respondents should focus more on behavior-changing financial coaching rather than financial concepts learning.

Factors Influence the Performance of Training Organizations: A Study on Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre

Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), an apex training organization, is a key player in the development of public sector human resources by offering and arranging high-quality training programs. A current curriculum and qualified training professors and staff are required for quality and effective training. As a result, the study's goals are to identify variables that determine training institution performance and as well measuring factors that influence, or impact training organizations’ performance and policy implications are drawn. A quantitative approach is adopted and as a research technique employs a highly known and frequently utilized structured questionnaire survey instrument. The respondents' data is collected using a purposive sampling approach. For data analysis, a scholarly software program called SPSS is employed. In addition to descriptive statistics, principal component factor analysis is used in this study. Unstandardized Coefficients values with significant levels (p&lt;.001) are used to test stated hypotheses and ANOVA is used to evaluate model significance. For organizational performance, PCA has identified four variables. Factors have high loading values. Among the four hypotheses, regression results confirmed that only one hypothesis ‘training staff relationship’ is having a positive and significant relationship with training organizations’ performance.

Predicting Intention to Participate in Community Physical Activities for Adults with Physical Disabilities.

Structural equation modeling was used to derive a relationship predicting the intention to participate in community physical activity among community-dwelling adults with a physical disability in Xiamen, China. The data were collected in a cross-sectional survey. The structural equation modeling combined biomedicine and the theory of planned behavior. It integrated ratings using the rehabilitation set from the international classification of functioning, disability, and health and role-physical scores from the short form 36 health survey questionnaire instrument. The model demonstrated a good ability to predict self-reported participation intentions, explaining 62% of the variance. The standard coefficients showed that activity limitation (27%), role-physical score (21%) and body impairment (14%) were the most influential predictors. ICF-RS ratings and role-physical ratings together can usefully predict physically disabled adults' intention of participating in community physical activities. Suggestions are presented for multidisciplinary intervention and improving this portion of the WHO's classification system.

Exploring the factors affecting consumer behavior towards the purchase of Nutraceuticals in Pakistan

The aim of this study was to examine the association between factors affecting the purchase of Nutraceuticals and the health-conscious behavior of consumers in a Pakistani university population that consisted of millennials. Additionally, the sociodemographic profile of the respondents was also explored to understand the consumption pattern of these complementary medicines. The research model was tested using a questionnaire survey instrument, and the measurement scales were developed. Data was collected through the convenience sampling method. The survey was floated to around 300 undergraduate students at a local health care university. The association between variables influencing customers’ decisions to purchase nutraceuticals and their health-conscious behavior was described using multiple regression analysis. The first deciding aspect was how the products were perceived. Results confirm the hypothesis and assert that health-conscious consumers are influenced by their perceptions of nutraceuticals. Moreover, it was validated that the accessibility of nutraceuticals was not a significant issue, whereas the source of information was found to be statistically significant, confirming that the source of information influences the decision to purchase nutraceuticals. The purpose of this study was to look at the factors affecting Pakistani customers’ choices when making health-conscious purchases. With the growing popularity and rising awareness about the consumption of nutraceuticals among young consumers, it was important to understand how significant these factors were for health-conscious consumers. Perceptions of the nutraceuticals formed by the health benefits, safety features, and other product features such as taste packaging were found to be significant influencing factors along with the source of information. Interestingly, accessibility measured through cost, ease of purchase and ease of use had no significant influence on the purchase behavior.
