1) Of 64 patients, there were 40ma1e patients, twice as many as female. 2) The majoritr of the patients (42) came from the department of general surgery. 3) The 19 patiehts underwent the abdominal surgery for peritonitis. 4) Among the 64 patients, the number of patients requiring the use of a ventilator during the initial 12 to 24 hours were 79, but 17 of these patients needed life support system for more than 72 hours. 5) Ten patients died postoperatively in RICU or were discharged with no hope of survival. 6) The main causes of dearth in 4 patients were acute cardiac failure, severe electrolyte imbalance, sepsis and cerebral hemorrhage. 6 patients were discharged with no hope of survival. 7) Seven of the patients who died in RICU or were discharged without hope of survival postoperatively used the ventilator for mole than 72 hours.
