Error Correction of the RapidEye Sub-Pixel Correlation: A Case Study of the 2019 Ridgecrest Earthquake Sequence

The optical image sub-pixel correlation (SPC) technique is an important method for monitoring large-scale surface deformation. RapidEye images, distinguished by their short revisit period and high spatial resolution, are crucial data sources for monitoring surface deformation. However, few studies have comprehensively analyzed the error sources and correction methods of the deformation field obtained from RapidEye images. We used RapidEye images without surface deformation to analyze potential errors in the offset fields. We found that the errors in RapidEye offset fields primarily consist of decorrelation noise, orbit error, and attitude jitter distortions. To mitigate decorrelation noise, the careful selection of offset pairs coupled with spatial filtering is essential. Orbit error can be effectively mitigated by the polynomial fitting method. To address attitude jitter distortions, we introduced a linear fitting approach that incorporated the coherence of attitude jitter. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed methods, we utilized RapidEye images to extract the coseismic displacement field of the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquake sequence. The two-dimensional (2D) offset field contained deformation signals extracted from two earthquakes, with a maximum offset of 2.8 m in the E-W direction and 2.4 m in the N-S direction. A comparison with GNSS observations indicates that, after error correction, the mean relative precision of the offset field improved by 92% in the E-W direction and by 89% in the N-S direction. This robust enhancement underscores the effectiveness of the proposed error correction methods for RapidEye data. This study sheds light on large-scale surface deformation monitoring using RapidEye images.

Surface deformation monitoring of Raniganj coalfield, India, using advanced InSAR and DGPS

The Raniganj coalfield, which is the oldest coal mine in India, is susceptible to ground subsidence. For the purpose of detecting surface deformation, this work makes use of field surveys, interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR), and Differential GPS (DGPS). The study utilised Sentinel-1 InSAR data spanning from 2017 to 2023. PS-InSAR was used for both ascending and descending datasets, while SBAS-InSAR was used for descending datasets alone. Records show a maximum subsidence rate of −21.18 mm/year. Three surface deformation maps were generated from time-series assessments of individual locations, revealing regions undergoing significant changes. Known mining collapse locations and continuing deformation zones were designated with four differential GPS stations. By analysing the DGPS data with the GAMIT/GLOBK software, we were able to measure surfaces that were undergoing rapid deformation. Using Google Earth Engine (GEE), we generated thermal maps to delve deeper into the coal fire activity. We found coal bed methane (CBM) mining causing substantial subsidence in Kataberia and the surrounding areas. Shyamsundarpur and New Kenda are impacted by mining voids and coal fire-induced subsidence, respectively. The results of this study give the Raniganj region’s decision-making procedures more credibility in terms of minimising and controlling geological dangers.

DACLnet: A Dual-Attention-Mechanism CNN-LSTM Network for the Accurate Prediction of Nonlinear InSAR Deformation

Nonlinear deformation is a dynamically changing pattern of multiple surface deformations caused by groundwater overexploitation, underground coal mining, landslides, urban construction, etc., which are often accompanied by severe damage to surface structures or lead to major geological disasters; therefore, the high-precision monitoring and prediction of nonlinear surface deformation is significant. Traditional deep learning methods encounter challenges such as long-term dependencies or difficulty capturing complex spatiotemporal patterns when predicting nonlinear deformations. In this study, we developed a dual-attention-mechanism CNN-LSTM network model (DACLnet) to monitor and accurately predict nonlinear surface deformations precisely. Using advanced time series InSAR results as input, the DACLnet integrates the spatial feature extraction capability of a convolutional neural network (CNN), the advantages of the time series learning of a long short-term memory (LSTM) network, and the enhanced focusing effect of the dual-attention mechanism on crucial information, significantly improving the prediction accuracy of nonlinear surface deformations. The groundwater overexploitation area of the Turpan Basin, China, is selected to test the nonlinear deformation prediction effect of the proposed DACLnet. The results demonstrate that the DACLnet accurately captures developmental trends in historical surface deformations and effectively predicts surface deformations for the next two months in the study area. Compared to traditional LSTM and CNN-LSTM methods, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the DACLnet improved by 85.09% and 68.57%, respectively. These research results can provide crucial technical support for the early warning and prevention of geological disasters and can serve as an effective alternative tool for short-term ground subsidence prediction in areas lacking hydrogeological and other related data.

Original Insights Into Rock Slope Damage Processes Until Collapse From Passive Seismic Monitoring

AbstractWe performed a passive seismic monitoring of the La Praz ∼14,000 m3 unstable slope (French Alps) spanning over 10 years. During the last 6 months prior to collapse, we detected a clear 24% decrease in the slope's fundamental resonance frequency, f0, caused by a reduction in overall rock mass stiffness. The combined study of f0 and slope deformation suggested the alternating importance of sudden brittle failure processes versus more ductile phases with possible sliding. Seismic monitoring revealed slope damage that remained ambiguous or undetected with ground surface deformation monitoring, and highlighted critical periods with intense damage. Only some of these critical damage periods could be related to clear external forcing factors such as intense rainfall episodes. These new insights into rock slope's structural condition at depth represent an asset for future monitoring systems. Surface deformation and passive seismic stiffness tracking combined could reveal active slopes with ongoing damage processes.

Surface deformation monitoring and forecasting of sinabung volcano using interferometry synthetic aperture radar and forest-based algorithm

The Sinabung volcano on Sumatra Island stands out as one of the most active volcanos, having recorded the highest number of eruptions since it resumed activity in 2010. The eruptive activities have caused significant deformations on the volcano's surface. This research aimed to analyze, cluster, and forecast its deformation patterns based on Sentinel-1 A time series data from 2016 to 2023. The differential interferometry synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) technique was used to monitor monthly deformations and to create time series data. A forest-based forecast (FBF) model was used to predict the rate of changes in volcano surface inflation from January 2024 to December 2027. The deformation times series patterns were also analyzed and clustered into three regions to reveal areas with similar deformation behaviors. The results indicated that Mount Sinabung's deformation is an overall continuous sporadic phenomenon where random ground inflation and deflation were recorded throughout the area with an average deformation rate ranging from 0.06 to 0.32 cm/month and an overall average of 0.197 cm/month with a standard deviation of 0.96 cm, confirming that the volcano is inflating. The highest single-pixel monthly inflation of 4.62 cm was recorded in 2023, while the highest deflation occurred in 2018 at −4.58 cm. The FBF model predicted a gradual and increasing inflationary pattern at the rate of 0.54 cm/month for 2024–2027, higher than the average of the observed data. The deformation within the lava dome and caldera poses a significant risk and could lead to wall collapses and landslides in the crater dome, potentially triggering explosive eruptions. The outcomes of this research serve as valuable supporting information and offer an early warning of potential volcanic disasters in the future.

Landslide Hazard Analysis Combining BGA-Net-Based Landslide Susceptibility Perception and Small Baseline Subset Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar in the Baige Section in the Upper Reaches of Jinsha River

The geological and topographic conditions in the upper reaches of the Jinsha River are intricate, with frequent occurrences of landslides. Landslide Susceptibility Prediction (LSP) in this area is a crucial aspect of geological disaster risk management. This study constructs an LSP model using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based on a Bilateral Aggregation Guidance (BAG) strategy, termed BGA-Net. A comprehensive landslide hazard analysis, integrating static landslide susceptibility zonation with dynamic surface deformation monitoring, was therefore conducted. The study area selected was the upper reaches of the Jinsha River, particularly the site of the Baige landslide. The BGA-Net model was first proposed for LSP generation, achieving an accuracy exceeding 85%, while the Small Baseline Subset Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SBAS-InSAR) technology was jointly applied to comprehensively analyze the dynamic geological hazard risk at a regional scale. The final results were presented in a lookup table format and mapped to delineate and grade each risk level. The results show the method is practical, with high feasibility. Compared with traditional machine learning methods, the BGA-strategy-oriented CNN model more effectively differentiated the extremely low- and extremely high-susceptibility areas, enhancing decision-making processes.

Comparison of the monitoring of surface deformations in open-pit mines with Sentinel-1A and TerraSAR-X satellite radar data.

In case necessary precautions are not taken in surface mines, serious accidents and loss of life may occur, particularly due to large mass displacements. It is extremely important to identify the early warning signs of these displacements and take the necessary precautions. In this study, free medium-resolution satellite radar images from the European Space Agency's (ESA) C-band Sentinel-1A satellite and commercial high-resolution satellite radar images (SAR, Synthetic Aperture Radar) from the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt's (DLR) X-band TerraSAR-X satellite were obtained, and it was attempted to reveal the traceability and adequacy of monitoring of deformations and possible mass displacements in the dump site of an open-pit coal mine. The compatibility of the results obtained from the satellite radar data with two devices of Global Positioning System (GPS) which were installed in the field was evaluated. Furthermore, the velocity results in the Line Of Sight (LOS) direction and vertical deformation velocity results obtained with all three approaches (GPS/Sentinel-1A, GPS/TerraSAR-X, and Sentinel-1A/TerraSAR-X) were compared. It was observed that the results were statistically equal and the directions of movement were similar/compatible. The result of this study showed that deformations at mine sites can be monitored with sufficient accuracy for early warning with free Sentinel-1A satellite data, although the TerraSAR-X satellite offers a higher resolution.

Automated Python workflow for generating Sentinel-1 PSI and SBAS interferometric stacks using SNAP on Geospatial Computing Platform

Detecting and monitoring surface deformation using radar satellite data is vital in geohazard assessment. Sentinel-1 has provided unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution, but data processing is complicated and poses computational challenges. Although software and tools exist, each with its own limitations. SNAP-ESA is notable for its user-friendly interface and stable performance in Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR). However, SNAP-ESA lacks a flexible approach for generating interferometric time series stacks for Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) and Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) techniques and faces computational challenges over large areas. Here, we present an automated Python workflow, SNAPWF, using SNAP-ESA to enable efficient PSI and SBAS interferometric time series stacks generation using flexible network graphs. SNAPWF has been implemented on a dedicated geospatial computing platform, enabling efficient performance over large areas. Results confirm its ability to generate PSI and SBAS interferometric stacks using full Sentinel-1 scenes and achieve results comparable to existing software.

Multi-temporal Monitoring for Road Slope Collapse by Means of LUTAN-1 SAR Data and High Resolution Optical Data

Abstract. Collapse is one of the most destructive natural disaster, being sudden, frequent, and highly concealed, causing large-scale damage. On August 10, 2023, the slope of 108 national highway in Weinan, Shaanxi Province collapsed. The lower edge of the collapse slope body is the Luohe river, and the collapse body rushes into the river to form a barrier lake. Remote sensing technique can provide multiple dimensional information for disaster emergency and management. Lutan-1 SAR satellites are the first group L-band SAR constellation for multiple applications in China. Owing to the precise orbit control ability and high revisit characteristics for Lutan-1 SAR satellites, surface deformation monitoring with centimeter even millimeter accuracy may be achieved. Based on the multi-temporal pre-disaster and post-disaster Lutan-1 SAR data and high resolution optical data, the collapse information including the pre-disaster and post-disaster were extracted and analysed. From July 11 to 27, 2023, the pre-collapse deformation was obtained with the maximum value of 6 cm, and obvious deformation occurred before the collapse. Lutan-1 monitored results pre-collapse can provide certain information for disaster early identification. From July 27 to August 24, 2023, due to the serious incoherence caused by large deformation and ground changes, effective deformation information cannot be obtained based on the InSAR technique. In addition, the collapse information was clearly extracted by the high resolution optical data acquired pre-collapse and post collapse. After the collapse, significant deformation was extracted from August 24 to September 21 with the maximum value of 6 cm, indicating that obvious deformation still occurred over the collapse area. Through the analysis for the series results obtained by SAR and optical data, it is favourable for disaster emergency and management.

Application of LuTan-1 SAR Data in Railway Subsidence Monitoring

Abstract. InSAR technology is currently a crucial tool for large-scale surface deformation monitoring, particularly excelling in regional subsidence monitoring. In this study, focusing on the Jinan section of the Shandong railway, newly launched LUTAN-1 satellite SAR data was employed. DInSAR and Stacking techniques were applied to analyze the subsidence in response to the long-term operation load of high-speed trains and surrounding human activities. Through the analysis of data from June 2023 to December 2023, regional subsidence was identified in this section, with a subsidence rate reaching 8 cm/year. Comparative analysis between DInSAR technology monitoring results and precise leveling monitoring results showed consistency in the subsidence deformation trend in the region, achieving centimeter-level deformation monitoring in the study area.The LuTan-1 satellite provided robust SAR data support for railway subsidence monitoring, offering substantial reliability and accuracy to deepen the understanding of railway subsidence issues. These research findings hold significant practical implications for adopting timely maintenance and repair measures, ensuring the safety and reliable operation of the railway system.

On the RFI Detection in Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar

Abstract. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) can image the ground with a wide area and high resolution at all times and in all weather and has become an important means of remote sensing. Differential interferometry SAR technology can obtain high-precision surface deformation information by processing more than two SAR images before and after deformation. In recent years, it has attracted widespread attention and research. However, due to the increasing number of ground electronic devices, ground radio frequency interference (RFI) has become one of the main problems in differential interferometry SAR processing, seriously affecting the performance of differential interferometry SAR imaging and differential interferometry surface deformation monitoring applications. In this paper, a clutter cancellation interference enhancement detection algorithm is proposed. By clutter suppression in the primary and secondary images, the interference-to-signal ratio is increased, which effectively improves the interference detection capabilities. The effectiveness of the algorithm in this paper is verified by the on-orbit measured data of the Lutan-1 satellites.

Comparison between DInSAR and Stacking in Deformation Monitoring Using LuTan-1

Abstract. LuTan-1 (LT-1) satellite constellation is used to conduct surface deformation monitoring. Following the successful launch of two satellites, we began to use the independently developed LandSAR software for differential interferometric data processing and application at the beginning of 2022. In this paper, we tested the LandSAR software by assessing the DInSAR and stacking modules. We used 21 LT-1 single look complex (SLC) images from December 2022 to May 2023 to conduct DInSAR and stacking processing of Datong City, Shanxi Province. DInSAR revealed more subsidence funnels and larger relative deformation values compared to stacking. We tested the DInSAR technology with different parameter combination. Results show that multi-looking factor is the most important to detect the deformation details because of the phase gradient limitation of DInSAR. Compared multi-looking ratios of 2×2 and 4×4, the subsiding funnels that were detected decreased from 60 to 47. After deep testing and assessment, we found that the linear model used by stacking affects the result severely, meaning that most of the subsidence of coal mines were not linear. Stacking only found 32 subsidence funnels which were active coal mines during our observation time. The test result show that LandSAR was compatible for DInSAR and stacking. And it is useful to observe linear and nonlinear deformation in the coal mine regions.

Surface Deformation Monitoring and Subsidence Mechanism Analysis in Beijing based on Time-series InSAR

Abstract. This article uses 43 Sentinel-1A image datasets covering Beijing to obtain time series surface deformation information in the study area from January 2022 to October 2023. It analyzes the causes of land subsidence by integrating precipitation and urban construction. The main research results are as follows: (1) Three distinct subsidence areas are identified in the eastern part of Chaoyang District in Beijing (Subsidence Area A), the northwestern part of Tongzhou District in Beijing (Subsidence Area B), and Yanjiao Town in Hebei Province (Subsidence Area B), which is adjacent to Beijing. Subsidence Areas A and B exhibit a dispersed pattern, with maximum land subsidence rates exceeding −30 mm/year. In contrast, Subsidence Areas C displays a funnel-shaped subsidence, where the majority of areas experience land subsidence rates exceeding −25 mm/year, with a maximum rate reaching −45 mm/year. (2) Precipitation has a significant impact on surface deformation in the study area, and there is a strong correlation between precipitation and land subsidence, with correlation values of 0.77, 0.77, and 0.74, respectively. (3) Urban construction has a certain impact on land subsidence, but the degree of impact varies in different regions.

Detection and monitoring of mining-induced subsidence with Gaofen-3 and Sentinel-1A SAR datasets

ABSTRACT The mining-induced subsidence has caused severe casualties and poses a threat to the safe operation of coal extraction, especially under the roads, buildings and rivers. This alarming situation demands the large-area subsidence detection and the large-gradient deformation monitoring to ensure safety. Although the traditional Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology can monitor surface deformation in high accuracy, unfortunately, it often fails to recover the sufficient deformation when facing the effects of decorrelation and large gradient displacement. Therefore, this study firstly proposes a Stacking-InSAR and coherence gradient fusion method to detect the mining-induced subsidence over large area. Secondly, the robust offset tracking method is applied to retrieve the large-gradient deformation in Buertai mining site. Both Gaofen-3 and Sentinel-1A Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) datasets are acquired over the border of Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia, China, for experimental test. The results show that 179 mining-induced subsidence sites are detected with the proposed method, and the complete spatial temporal deformation fields are obtained by both Gaofen-3 and Sentinel-1A offset tracking method with maximum deformation of 3 m in range direction. This study provides a valuable tool for detecting the fine boundary of mining subsidence and recovering the accurate deformation time series.

Overview and Analysis of Ground Subsidence along China’s Urban Subway Network Based on Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry

Deformation along a subway rail network is related to the safe operation of the subway and the stability of construction facilities on the surface, making long-term deformation monitoring imperative. Long-term monitoring of surface deformation along the subway network and statistical analysis of the overall deformation situation are lacking in China. Therefore, targeting 35 Chinese cities whose subway mileage exceeds 50 km, we extracted their surface deformation along subway networks between 2018 and 2022, using spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (InSAR) technology and Sentinel-1 satellite data. We verified the results with the continuous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) stations’ data and found that the root mean square error (RMSE) of the InSAR results was 3.75 mm/year. Statistical analysis showed that ground subsidence along the subways was more prominent in Beijing, Tianjin, and other areas in the North China Plain, namely Kunming (which is dominated by karst landforms), as well as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, and other coastal cities. In addition, an analysis revealed that the severity of surface subsidence correlated positively with a city’s gross domestic product (GDP) with a Pearson correlation of 0.787, since the higher the GDP, the more frequent the construction and maintenance of subway, and the more commuters there are, which in turn exacerbates the disturbance to the surface. Additionally, the type of land cover also affects the ground deformation. Our findings provide a reference for constructing, operating, and maintaining the urban subway systems in China.

Experimental Research on the Floating Amount of Shield Tunnel Based on the Innovative Cumulative Floating Amount Calculation Method

The study of shield tunnel segment flotation is crucial for controlling the precision of underground excavation projects. Based on Winkler’s beam foundation theory, the load structure method, and the equivalent continuous beam model, and by considering the mechanical and spatial conditions that cause segment flotation, a novel theoretical calculation method for cumulative flotation is proposed using a simplified equivalent stiffness model of the tunnel. Additionally, a new concept of “equivalent flotation force” is introduced. The rationality and applicability of this theoretical calculation method are verified by comparing it with on-site construction data from the Yuanjiang River Crossing Tunnel Project in Changde, Hunan Province, China. The experimental results demonstrate that the theoretical calculation closely approximates the surface deformation monitoring data of the tunnel alignment in the eastern section of the project, and their deformation patterns are similar. Near the starting shaft, there is significant settlement influenced by stratum loss due to smaller tunnel flotation, with greater settlement occurring in the upper part. However, at approximately 45 m into both sections, they enter a deformation stability zone showing significant correlation in longitudinal deformation. Through comparison and verification of on-site experiments and theoretical model analysis, we preliminarily elucidate the feasibility of this innovative cumulative flotation theoretical calculation method which provides an important theoretical basis for assessing segment flotation issues in subsequent tunnel shield construction evaluations.

Forecasting surface movements based on PSI time series using machine learning algorithms

ABSTRACT Surface movements pose a critical issue requiring prompt detection and monitoring to ensure safety. To address this concern, the detection and continuous monitoring of surface deformations have gained importance. While numerous point-based surveying methods exist, multi-temporal interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) analysis has emerged as a powerful technique capable of detecting deformations across large areas with freely available SAR images and software. However, the significance of surface movement forecasting must be addressed, as it plays a significant role in preventing accidents and implementing precautionary measures. In light of this, a comprehensive study was conducted at the new Istanbul Airport in Türkiye, employing the Persistent Scatterer InSAR (PSI) method with a collection of 211 Sentinel-1 SAR images. The results obtained were investigated, and six test case regions were determined for the forecasting analysis in terms of time series movement type (subsidence, uplift, and stable) and structure type (runway and building) using various machine learning (ML) algorithms. To accomplish this, regression-based and sequential-based ML algorithms were employed and compared, showing the potential of cutting-edge techniques. The Stacked LSTM algorithm was the most effective in generating accurate forecasts. Furthermore, by incorporating exogenous variables into the forecasting analysis, the study improved the accuracy of the results. To gain deeper insights into the impact of these exogenous variables, feature importance analysis was conducted using the permutation feature importance method. The results obtained were examined, considering both the structure type and the characteristics of the time series data.

Goaf Site Stability Detection in the Overlap Area of Coal Mining Subsidence and Urban Construction

The contradiction between coal mining and urban construction in coal resource-based cities is prominent, which greatly limits the sustainable development of these cities. Pan’an New City is a key mining-induced subsidence area in Xuzhou City, which presents significant challenges to the construction of the new city. Therefore, in order to ensure the safe construction of Pan’an New City, the residual deformation and stability of the goaf sites must be monitored and evaluated. Under such background, based on the measured leveling data of the mining-induced surface deformation in a coal mine near Pan’an New City, this paper first analyzed the accuracy of InSAR monitoring of surface deformation in coal mining subsidence area by SBAS-InSAR technology. Then, the SBAS-InSAR technology was used to monitor the surface subsidence rate and cumulative subsidence in the coal mining subsidence area of Pan’an New City, based on the 29 scene SAR data during Dec. 2020 and Jan. 2022. The results showed that the goaf site in the north and northwest of Pan’an New City is unstable, while the other areas are stable. Finally, according to the monitoring results, the suggestions have been put forward for the construction of Pan’an New Town on the goaf site. The research results have important theoretical and practical significance for the reuse of goaf sites in Pan’an New City and similar areas in Xuzhou.

DEM-based topographic change detection considering the spatial distribution of errors

ABSTRACT Digital Elevation Model (DEM) errors tend to be spatially correlated, inevitably affecting DEM-based topographic change detection. Traditional topographic change detection methods often ignore the spatial distribution of the DEM error. This paper aims to develop a workflow that considers the spatial autocorrelation of the error in topographic change detection. Firstly, the DEM of Difference (DoD) is obtained from two-period DEMs, and the Monte Carlo method is employed to evaluate the Spatially Distributed Errors (SDE) in DEMs. Secondly, DoD errors are calculated by propagation based on spatially distributed DEM errors. At the same time, its spatial distribution is quantified using the semi-variance function. Finally, topographic changes (erosion, deposition, and net changes) are calculated based on the spatial distribution analysis and significance detection. The results in two small catchments indicate that DEM errors are spatially correlated, increasing the volume calculation errors. However, using Standard Deviation of Errors (SDE) instead of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) can effectively reduce the sensitivity of the detection results in the significance threshold. When the significance threshold increases from 68% to 95%, the observations loss using the spatially distributed error is 4.67% −6.92% lower than that using the RMSE. The level of detection has little impact on the net topographic change and significantly influences gross erosion and deposition. In particular, the use of level of detection can effectively reduce the misclassification of erosion or deposition in stable topography areas. The proposed method can be effectively utilized in various applications like surface deformation monitoring, erosion monitoring, and sediment transport assessment.

A temporary soil dump settlement and landslide risk analysis using the improved small baseline subset-InSAR and continuous medium model

Abandoned soil disposal in China has become increasingly challenging, which may pose significant safety hazards such as soil settlement and landslides. Interferometry Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) is effective in surface deformation monitoring and Small Baseline Subset-InSAR (SBAS-InSAR) can obtain sufficient coherent point density from the bare soil surface. This study investigated Chishi soil dump in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone (SSSCZ), and a total of 91 Sentinel-1 images from 2019 to 2022 was processed. Accordingly, an improved SBAS-InSAR method was utilized to analyze the soil dump’s time-series deformation, and multi-source remote sensing data were used for auxiliary interpretation. Our results indicate that precipitation, high temperature, and construction vibrations may cause instability of the soil dump. Therefore, a depth-integrated continuous medium model was introduced to analyze the potential landslide risk of the soil dump, which demonstrate that a landslide will likely occur, harm personnel, and damage the buildings surrounding the Chishi soil dump when it was saturated (λ ≥ 0.50). This research can provide a vital case reference for the analysis, interpretation, disaster prevention, and control evaluation of similar soil dumps.
