Innovative healthcare solutions for resource-limited settings expanding pharmaceutical care to remote populations

Access to essential healthcare and pharmaceutical services remains a significant challenge in resource-limited settings. This paper explores innovative strategies for expanding pharmaceutical care to remote populations, focusing on the integration of mobile health technologies and community-based interventions. Mobile health (mHealth) technologies, including telemedicine and mobile pharmacies, offer a cost-effective means of delivering healthcare services, enhancing access, and improving real-time monitoring. Community-based interventions, such as the deployment of community health workers, health education campaigns, and peer support groups, play a critical role in addressing healthcare disparities and improving health literacy and medication adherence. The paper also discusses the integration of pharmaceutical care models, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among healthcare providers, pharmacists, and community health workers. Future directions highlight emerging innovations like AI and blockchain technology, while policy recommendations emphasize the need for investment in healthcare infrastructure, professional training, and regulatory support. By leveraging these strategies and innovations, healthcare outcomes and equity in resource-limited settings can significantly improve.

Innovation and infrastructure: driving forces for entrepreneurship development and economic opportunities

Purpose. To determine the relationship between innovation and infrastructure to support entrepreneurship as factors of growth of economic opportunities, based on the results of empirical research. Methodology. The case method and modern tools of econometric research were used to create an economic-mathematical model that assesses the relationship between economic opportunities and indicators of economic innovation. The research is based on the results of the Gallup 75 Years Anniversary Survey on current and future economic opportunities, as well as Global Innovation Index (GII) indicators. Findings. Creating favorable conditions for doing business and developing entrepreneurship is critically important for the economic recovery of Ukraine. The high level of entrepreneurial activity among Ukrainians emphasizes the importance of the development of innovative infrastructure and business support. The developed models can be used to forecast the economic capabilities of the population, which will contribute to the return of citizens and the development of the national economy. Thus, innovations and an effective infrastructure to support entrepreneurship play a key role in ensuring sustainable economic growth and social well-being in Ukraine. The results of the study can become the basis for developing strategies for economic development and solving migration problems in the post-war period. Determinants of the growth of economic opportunities of the population (human capital) are determined. The suggested GII parameters most correlate to positive feedback on economic opportunities and growth over the next 25 years. Originality. For the first time, the relationship between economic opportunities, the development of innovations and the development of infrastructure at the enterprise has been empirically proven. Statistically significant predictors of current and future economic opportunities of the population are substantiated and relevant economic and mathematical models for their evaluation and forecasting are developed. Practical value. The results of the study are particularly relevant in the context of solving the migration crisis caused by Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. The return of citizens who have left the country depends on the creation of favorable conditions for business and the development of entrepreneurship. The developed models can be used to forecast the economic opportunities of the population in different countries, which will allow effective management of migration processes and promote the development of national economies. This will ensure the creation of a favorable business environment, which is critical for sustainable economic growth and social well-being.

Integrating telemedicine in European healthcare settings: Key enablers for healthcare professionals

Abstract Background Conducted as part of WP4 (Sustainability) of the eCAN Joint Action (JA), we aimed to understand the facilitating factors for the use of telemedicine services in healthcare organisations (HCOs) involved in cancer care, such as comprehensive cancer centres and hospitals. eCAN JA runs pilot studies in 18 HCOs across 10 EU Member States (MS) to test the integration of telemedicine into the daily practice of healthcare professionals. Methods Based on a literature review, we identified 26 facilitators to implement telemedicine services at the organisational level; these were integrated to an online survey and sent to healthcare professionals working in cancer care. Next, they were invited to a foresight workshop to complement the quantitative survey data with qualitative insights. Results 24 healthcare professionals across 12 EU MS, predominantly from the pilot sites of the eCAN JA, responded to the survey. They advocate for trainings on telemedicine, emphasising the importance of user-friendly and interoperable platforms, alongside sufficient technological support, time, and financial resources to effectively implement telemedicine in HCOs. Trial periods for both healthcare professionals and patients should offer first-hand experience, while harmonising telemedicine protocols ensure consistency. In addition, promoting digital literacy among physicians and providing IT education from an early age could facilitate adoption. These strategies, coupled with awareness campaigns and infrastructure investments in HCOs, can pave the way for telemedicine adoption. Conclusions Based on the quantitative and qualitative outcomes, it can be concluded that policies should establish telemedicine training for healthcare professionals, support interoperability and user-friendliness of these services in HCOs. They should also address hospital workload challenges, create harmonised protocols, provide incentives, and invest in digital infrastructure in HCOs for telemedicine adoption. Key messages • Telemedicine implementation in HCOs requires equipping healthcare professionals with the necessary skills, ensuring system compatibility, and addressing resource constraints in HCOs for success. • Financial and infrastructural support to HCOs is crucial for the seamless integration of telemedicine services into the daily workflows of healthcare professionals, enhancing health service delivery.

Substitution of care through the eyes of Dutch health insurers: a qualitative study

Abstract Objectives The objective of health policy measures in the Netherlands is to promote the substitution of care from hospitals to general practitioners (GPs), with reimbursement facilitating this shift. Given that health insurers are tasked with healthcare reimbursement in the Netherlands, understanding their experiences regarding care substitution is crucial. Methods First, informal interviews were held with employees from the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports, the National Health Care Institute and the Netherlands Institute of Health Services Research to construct the topic list. Then, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 15 employees from 7 health insurers, including healthcare purchasers, strategists, client relations executives, and business analysts, between February and April 2024. Transcripts were analyzed in MAXQDA by two researchers, after member checking. Results Insurers navigating substitution face a complex interplay of competition and collaboration, lacking a comprehensive framework. Long-term agreements with hospitals and GPs are seen as potential solutions, contingent on building trust. Diverse views on insurers’ roles emerge, from passive reimbursement to active infrastructure support. Budgetary constraints vary, with some insurers feeling constrained by national budgets for GPs and hospitals while others perceive more flexibility. Risks equalization and deductibles are identified as hindrances to substitution efforts, necessitating changes in financial incentives. Conclusions Overall, addressing these complexities requires aligning incentives and balancing collaboration and competition to optimize resource allocation to effectively meet evolving healthcare needs. A comprehensive framework to balance collaboration and competition might be helpful. Key messages • Understanding insurers’ views on care substitution is vital for healthcare policy in the Netherlands. • A comprehensive framework is needed to balance collaboration and competition, aligning incentives effectively.

Law Enforcement on Fishery: Prohibition of Trawl Nets as an Effort to Protect Small Fisherman Fairly

The sea and its resources, especially fishery resources, are a gift from God Almighty for the welfare of all Indonesian people. Based on the state's right to control the earth and the natural resources contained therein, which originates from Article 33 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the government must regulate fishery resources for the greatest prosperity of all people. The use of fishery resources is carried out with various legal products ranging from laws, government regulations, and presidential decrees to ministerial rules. Regulations on using fishery resources include prohibiting using trawl nets to catch fish in certain waters. This prohibition aims to prevent damage to the marine environment, ensure the sustainability of fishery resources, and protect small fishermen. However, in its implementation, it is still hampered by the problem of law enforcement, which is hindered by disharmony of regulations, the availability of professional law enforcement officers, and the lack of support for facilities and infrastructure considering the vast area of law enforcement. One thing that is no less important in enforcing the law on the prohibition of the use of trawl nets is the low legal awareness of fishing communities, especially industrial fishermen who only care about themselves without paying attention to the preservation of marine ecosystems, the sustainability of fishery resources, and the protection of small fishermen or traditional fishermen.

The role of learning activities and social presence in synchronous hybrid classrooms: results from a natural experiment

ABSTRACT The synchronous hybrid classroom (SHC) combines on-site and remote learners simultaneously. This study aims to investigate how participation mode (on-site vs. remote) affects students’ perceived learning in a SHC, examining social presence as a mediator. A second aim explores how different learning activity types along the ICAP framework influence students’ perceived learning across both groups, again considering social presence as a potential mediator. A natural experiment was conducted with 241 vocational secondary school students regularly participating in a SHC, either on-site (n = 136) or remotely (n = 105). Results showed that participation mode influenced students’ perceived learning indirectly through social presence. Remote participants perceived their social presence as lower and learning less effective than on-site participants. Interactive learning activities were most frequently used in this SHC implementation. The mediating effect of social presence was particularly strong for active/interactive activities on-site and passive/interactive ones remotely. This study contributes to theory by unravelling the complex interplay of the pedagogical design of a SHC and students’ learning experiences, highlighting the critical role of fostering social presence to optimise learning outcomes in SHC. Furthermore, it underscores the practical necessity for robust technological infrastructure and professional development support for teachers to enhance the efficacy of SHC settings.

Optimizing Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) Production: Genetic Insights, Climate Adaptation, and Efficient Management Practices: Systematic Review

Peanut production plays a crucial role in global food security, particularly in developing countries, where it provides essential nutrition and income. This paper examines the optimization of peanut production through genetic advancements, climate adaptation strategies, and sustainable practices. The primary objective is to increase yields by addressing challenges related to climate change, pests, and resource constraints. Globally, peanut production is hindered by rising temperatures, irregular rainfall, and declining soil quality, impacting both yield and quality. Developing countries, especially in Africa and Asia, face additional challenges, such as limited access to advanced agricultural technologies, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient support for smallholder farmers. The vital issues include genetic vulnerabilities to pests, climate stress, and inefficient water use. Recent genetic research has provided insights into breeding more resilient, drought-resistant varieties, offering hope for improving yields, despite environmental challenges. The adoption of climate adaptation strategies, precision farming, and integrated pest management is essential for boosting productivity. These, along with optimized irrigation and nutrient management, have significantly impacted peanut production in resource-limited settings. Additionally, drought-resistant varieties have proven crucial, enabling farmers to increase resilience and yields in areas facing climate stress. In conclusion, optimizing peanut production requires continued investment in genetic advancements, infrastructure, and sustainable practices. Future efforts should focus on improving climate adaptation and sustainable farming techniques for long-term success.

E-learning Supporting Infrastructure Investment in South Africa: Perspective of a Developing Economy

South Africa is one of the developing economies. Most of its provinces are in rural areas and have poor or lack of reliable critical infrastructure to enable development as in the case of urban areas. Infrastructure refers to physical structures that serve as the underlying foundation for the functioning of an economy. It includes physical facilities such as communication systems (telephone lines, broadband), and power supply systems (electrical grids, dams, etc.). The focus of the study is on information communication technological infrastructure (ICT) such as telephone and broadband networks and electricity infrastructure that support the adoption of e-learning. Many schools in South Africa are in rural areas and are attended by the majority of learners. These learners should perform the same way as learners in urban schools. Urban schools have better access to ICT infrastructure. Due to a lack of equitable ICT infrastructure, many education institutions back-tracked from the hybrid teaching mode implemented during the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown to the traditional class/lecture-room mode of teaching. It is revealed in the study that South Africa struggles in the area of infrastructure development. These affect the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) which are heavily dependent on infrastructure, including education. E-learning offers a better advantage compared to traditional class/lecture-room-based education. ICT infrastructure that supports the provision of e-learning is not equitably distributed, and those that are available are not enough and reliable. South Africa is reported to need R4.8 trillion to achieve its critical infrastructure goals, indicating a dire need for infrastructure investment. Under-investment in infrastructure affects all sectors of the economy, including the education sector.

Rural Economic Development Strategy through Village Tourism Development with the Exploitation of Local Potential (Empirical Study in Kebon Ayu Village, West Lombok)

This study aims to examine and analyze the appropriate strategies developed by stakeholders in building and developing rural tourism areas, especially Kebon Ayu Village as one of the mainstay tourist villages in West Lombok. The development of rural areas is important to create community welfare as well as to play the role of residents to take responsibility for maintaining the preservation of the surrounding natural environment. The research approach used is a qualitative descriptive approach based on field observation with the support of secondary data. The collected data is then analyzed using a SWOT analysis approach by systematically identifying various internal and external factors to formulate the desired development strategy. The logic built is how to maximize strengths and opportunities but at the same time minimize weaknesses and threats. The results of the study show that the tourist attraction of Kebon Ayu Village has enough potential to be developed because of the support of the beautiful rural nature and the surrounding hills that surround it. It has a natural rural atmosphere, supporting agro-tourism and culinary tourism potential, with an attractive green expanse of hills, a strategic position as a buffer for the district capital (Gerung) and its safe and comfortable environment. But on the other hand, several things need to be improved, such as the arrangement of the residential environment, waste handling, and concern for tourist facilities such as garbage cans, ATMs, toilets, mini markets, prayer rooms, and others. Supporting facilities and infrastructure need to receive attention so that they are more organized, such as the construction of environmental roads, street lighting, waterways, folk craft coaching, water game spots, outbound, and camping grounds. If all of these things can be overcome properly, then the Kebon Ayu Village tourist attraction will have its own attraction and become a mainstay tourist destination that can compete with other village tourist attractions.

Analysis of Effectiveness of Collaborative Pedagogy Practices

This study analyzes the effectiveness of collaborative teaching and learning strategies to enhance student's educational experience and learning results. Collaborative pedagogy converts the traditional teacher-centered paradigm into a more participatory, student-centered approach, promoting active participation via group work, debates, and collective problem-solving. This study examines existing literature, case studies, and empirical evidence to evaluate the impact of collaborative approaches on student accomplishment, motivation, and the development of fundamental abilities such as critical thinking, communication, and cooperation. The study found that collaborative teaching and learning approaches are essential for strengthening comprehension, increasing information retention, and cultivating superior social skills. The benefits of peer learning, active engagement, and instructor facilitation are highlighted in cultivating a dynamic classroom atmosphere. The study underscores other problems linked to implementing collaborative pedagogy, including resource constraints, dominant teacher-centered cultural norms, and substantial class sizes, especially in poor countries such as Nepal. The acceptance of collaborative pedagogy in Nepal is increasing owing to continuing educational reforms and curricular modifications; nonetheless, many obstacles hinder its extensive implementation. The document emphasizes the need for augmented teacher training, greater infrastructural support, and customized teaching methodologies to use the benefits of collaborative learning properly. The results demonstrate that, when properly implemented, collaborative teaching-learning methodology may substantially improve educational quality and prepare students to confront real-world difficulties.

The drivers and barriers influencing the commercialization of innovations at research and innovation institutions in Uganda: a systemic, infrastructural, and financial approach

Research and innovation (R&I) institutions must commercialize their innovations to remain competitive in a knowledge-based economy. While R&I institutions in Uganda have the potential to drive socioeconomic development, a clear understanding of the commercialization pathway is lacking. This study aims to bridge this gap by analyzing the systemic, infrastructural, and financial factors that drive and hinder the commercialization of innovations at R&I institutions in Uganda. This study offers the first comprehensive examination of the systemic, infrastructural, and financial dimensions influencing innovation commercialization within Uganda's R&I ecosystem, presenting new empirical evidence on the prioritized barriers and drivers as perceived by key stakeholders. Employing a mixed-method approach, this study uniquely combines quantitative surveys with qualitative case studies and key informant interviews, enabling a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted drivers of and barriers to innovation commercialization in Uganda. The study employed the Delphi technique to identify consensus among key informants. The findings highlight the urgent barriers to address, including fragmented R&I ecosystems, inadequate support infrastructure, such as technology transfer offices, and significant gaps in innovation financing. These issues underscore the urgent need for targeted policy interventions. Based on our findings, we recommend the establishment of a national innovation fund, enhancement of public private partnerships for R&D infrastructure development, and formulation of a cohesive national policy framework to streamline commercialization processes at R&I institutions. This study provides policymakers with a data-driven foundation to craft targeted interventions aimed at removing the identified barriers, thereby catalyzing the commercialization of innovations in Uganda's R&I institutions.

Influence of region, experience, and subjective norm on the use of e-learning: Lesson from the insurance industry in Indonesia

The effectiveness and efficiency of e-learning system in industry significantly depend on users’ acceptance and adoption. This is specifically determined by external and internal factors represented by subjective norms (SN) and experience (XP), both believed to affect users’ perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU). Users’ acceptance of e-learning system is influenced by the immensity of region, often hampered by inadequate infrastructure support. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate behavioral intention to use e-learning in the Indonesian insurance industry by applying Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). To achieve this objective, Jabotabek and Non-Jabotabek regions were used as moderating variables in all related hypotheses. An online survey was conducted to obtain data from 800 respondents who were Indonesian insurance industry employees. Subsequently, Structural Equation Model (SEM) was used to evaluate the hypotheses, and Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) to examine the role of region. The results showed that out of the seven hypotheses tested, only one was rejected. Furthermore, XP had no significant effect on PU, and the most significant correlation was found between PEOU and PU. In each relationship path model, the role of region (Jabodetabek and Non Jabodetabek) had no significant differences. These results were expected to provide valuable insights into the components of e-learning acceptability for the development of a user-friendly system in the insurance industry.

A systematic review of the extant literature on the Tanzanian e-government services for economic development

This paper investigates the existing Tanzanian e-government services for economic development through a systematic review of the literature. The main objective is to examine researchers’ articles on e-government services towards achieving the Tanzanian economic growth as well as the current issues and trends on e-government globally. Specifically, this study aims to answer three research questions on: what are the functional e-government services in Tanzania? What is the level of Tanzanian e-government service performance? And what are the factors influencing Tanzanian e-government service performance for economic development? A systematic literature search was conducted on four aggregate data sources, which included Google Scholar, ResearchGate, CORE, and Refseek. A combination of search key terms was employed to obtain the data sources from 2015 to 2022. One hundred and five articles were found by the combined search and screened, resulting to eighteen articles that were recommended for the study. Content and Microsoft Excel computer application were used to analyse the screened data sources. The findings reveal that, a number of functional services is offered and considered potential for revenue collection and contribute to the nation's economic development. Nevertheless, Tanzania has improved and dynamically advanced to the transaction level of e-government implementation where the majority of the citizens interact for services and information. However, factors related to the activeness of the platforms, accessibility, usability, infrastructure, security issues, privacy, and technical support services among others, were identified to influence the performance of Tanzanian e-government services and thus call attention to the government in addressing these issues.

Learning health systems to implement chronic disease prevention programs: A novel framework and perspectives from an Australian health service.

Chronic diseases are a considerable burden to health systems, communities, and patients. Much of this burden, however, could be prevented if interventions effective in reducing chronic disease risks were routinely implemented. The aim of this paper is to discuss the role of public health agencies in preventing chronic disease through the application of learning health system (LHS) approaches to improve the implementation of evidence-based interventions. We draw on the literature and our experience operating a local LHS in Australia that has achieved rapid improvements in the implementation of chronic disease prevention interventions. The proposed LHS framework has been adapted to be both implementation and chronic disease prevention focused. The framework describes both broad improvement processes, and the infrastructure and other support (pillars) recommended to support its core functions. The framework serves as a basis for further exploration of the potentially transformative role LHS's may have in addressing the chronic disease health crisis.

PENDAMPINGAN KOMUNITAS POKDARWIS PILANG DALAM PENGELOLAAN ANIMAL WASTE MENJADI KOMPOS ORGANIK UNTUK MENDUKUNG SUSTAINABILITY URBAN FARMING

Animal waste management is an environmental challenge that can be turned into an economic opportunity through the right approach. This service program aims to assist the Pokdarwis Pilang community of Probolinggo City in managing animal waste into organic compost to support the sustainability of urban farming. The Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach is used to empower the community by utilizing existing local assets, such as animal waste, community skills, and infrastructure support. The service process includes five stages: Discovery, Dream, Design, Define, and Destiny. The Discovery stage focused on identifying local assets, where animal waste was found to be a valuable asset that was previously not managed properly. Through the Dream stage, the community formulated a shared vision to create a sustainable waste treatment system. The Design stage implemented technical training and procurement of composting infrastructure. At the Define stage, the community began to manage the waste treatment independently, followed by an evaluation of the results and social impact at the Destiny stage. The results showed an increase in the technical skills of Pokdarwis members, the establishment of a compost production unit, and changes in community behavior in waste management. In addition, the formation of partnerships with local markets helped improve the economic welfare of the community. The ABCD approach has proven effective in creating sustainable social change through community empowerment. Recommendations from this program are to expand the application of the ABCD approach to other communities and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders to support the sustainability of waste management and urban farming.

Identification of topical issues of the energy transition in publications of the scientific content aggregator Scilit. Part 2. Keyword clustering

Background. The access of Russian researchers to Scopus and Web of Science has become restricted, so the use of open reference databases becomes relevant. Objective. Identification of topical problems of energy transition in publications presented in Scilit, a content aggregator for scientific publications with free access. Materials and methods. The study utilized 10,121 bibliometric records of articles from 2019–2023. Publications were systematized using Gibbs sampling algorithm for Dirichlet mixture model. The topics of publications within the obtained clusters were analyzed using the demo version of the Carrot2 program. Publications were ranked using the sumy utility with the lex-rank algorithm. Results. The identified topical topics are devoted to systemic problems of energy complexes, including integration of different sources of energy generation, energy storage in “accumulators” or “green hydrogen” and optimization of their operation. Much attention is paid to the social aspects of the energy transition, especially relevant for rural areas and regions with a low level of economic development. Conclusions. Without financial support and appropriate infrastructure for local energy communities, the energy transition may be rejected by them. Households should be encouraged to use cleaner energy sources that are less harmful to health and the environment.

Development of human capital in Kazakhstan’s higher education institutions: financial investments, faculty qualifications, and research output (2018–2022)

This study examines the development of human capital in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Kazakhstan from 2018 to 2022, focusing on financial investments, infrastructure support, faculty qualifications, research output, and student outcomes. Utilizing comprehensive data from official sources, the analysis reveals significant growth in financial commitment to higher education, with substantial increases in expenditures, revenues, and investments in educational infrastructure. The data indicate a diverse and increasingly qualified faculty, though gender imbalances persist at senior academic levels. Research output, as measured by publications indexed in Scopus, has shown consistent growth, reflecting enhanced research productivity. Student performance metrics, including graduation rates and employment outcomes, highlight the effective preparation of graduates for the job market, with rising average salaries and employment rates. Innovation activities within HEIs, such as patent applications and trademark registrations, demonstrate a dynamic but variable landscape. The study identifies key areas for improvement, including the need for sustained investment, policies promoting gender equality in academia, and support for innovation activities. The findings underscore the importance of aligning educational programs with market needs to further improve graduate employability. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers and educational leaders to enhance the quality and competitiveness of higher education in Kazakhstan, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.

A Comprehensive Quantitative Lifecycle Cost and Environmental Impact Analysis Model for Computing Infrastructure

This paper presents a comprehensive quantitative model for quantitative assessment of the lifecycle costs and environmental impacts of computing infrastructure, with a focus on internet data centers (IDCs) and high-performance computing (HPC) facilities. The key innovation lies in the integration of interdisciplinary cost evaluation and carbon emission methods for the establishment of this quantitative model. This framework, which outlines key cost components and carbon emission factors, enables the calculation of total costs, electricity expenses, and greenhouse gas emissions throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure. With IDCs as a case study, the research clarifies the intricate cost structure associated with equipment procurement, energy usage, land acquisition, and operational expenses. This paper provides an in-depth understanding of the cost structure and environmental impact of computing infrastructure in support of sustainable decision-making in its development.•Based on established cost estimation methods, such as Lifecycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) and the Analogous Estimating Method, this study examines costs across construction and operation phases.•The Emission Factor Method is used to quantify environmental impact, emphasizing the significance of regional energy mix and power usage effectiveness (PUE).

Infrastructure Development and Donation Culture in the Gaza Strip

ABSTRACTInfrastructure consists of interlinked and nested sociotechnical systems, the construction, maintenance, and repair of which requires considerable ongoing outlays of material resources, technical know‐how and throughput, and political will. Building upon “broken world” approaches, this research uses qualitative methods to study infrastructure development, breakdown, and repair through the lens of a particular collaborative humanitarian initiative involving the public health sector in the Gaza Strip. Findings from this research suggest that a lack of donation ethics combined with policies that privilege “service over stuff” enable and exacerbate key infrastructural breakdowns, perpetuate maladaptive behaviors, inhibit meaningful development, and reinforce dominant harmful regimes. The paper concludes by arguing for increased critical and ethical awareness of donation culture and its consequences, a reconsideration of development policies that limit funding support to services rather than material and infrastructure supports, and an emphasis on building local capacity for maintenance and repair work.

A roadmap for the nursing scientific workforce to eliminate health and healthcare inequities

Nursing science has contributed an important and unique perspective and has held a leading role in health inequity research to date. However, a number of serious workforce challenges threaten the capacity of nurse investigators to continue their leadership in solutions-oriented health inequity research. This manuscript discusses these challenges and argues that, to maintain and build on nursing’s leadership role, the nursing scientific workforce requires an improved and more modernized support infrastructure for solutions-oriented health inequities research. We also outline a series of considerations for putting such a support infrastructure in place, including overarching workforce support objectives, key workforce competencies, and important programmatic elements for a strong support infrastructure for the future cadre of solutions-oriented nurse health inequity investigators.
