The Investigation of Treatment of Pistachio Processing Industrial Wastewater by Electrochemical Methods in Terms of Chemical Oxygen Demand and Total Phenol Removal

<p>This work aims to investigate the efficiency of electrocoagulation (EC) of pistachio processing industrial wastewater (PPIW) using the continuous EC process. The tubular reactor made of stainless steel with an internal diameter of 60 mm was used as a cathode electrode. The effect of some parameters was examined on the removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total phenols (TP) removal efficiency. The influences of the initial pH of wastewater (from 4 to 8), flow rate (from 25 to 125 mL/min), current density (from 7 to 21 mA/cm<sup>2</sup>), and supporting electrolyte type (NaCl, NaNO<sub>3</sub>, and Na<sub>2</sub>SO<sub>4</sub>), supporting electrolyte concentration (from 10 to 100 mg/L NaCl) on removal efficiency were investigated to determine the best experimental conditions. The examination of the physico-chemical parameters during the EC treatment showed that the best removal efficiency was obtained under conditions where the flow rate was 25 mL/min (20 min reaction time), the pH value was 5.2, and the current density was 21 mA/cm<sup>2</sup> has set. Under these experimental conditions, COD and TP removal efficiency were found to be 75% and 97%, respectively, while energy consumption was 18.5 kW h/m<sup>3</sup>. The study results show that the EC can be applied to PPIW pre-treatment.</p>

The Effect of Electrolyte Composition on the Performance of a Single‐Cell Iron–Chromium Flow Battery

Flow batteries are promising for large‐scale energy storage in intermittent renewable energy technologies. While the iron–chromium redox flow battery (ICRFB) is a low‐cost flow battery, it has a lower storage capacity and a higher capacity decay rate than the all‐vanadium RFB. Herein, the effect of electrolyte composition (active species and supporting electrolyte concentrations), Fe/Cr molar ratio, and supporting electrolyte type (HCl and H2SO4) on the performance (current efficiency (CE), voltage efficiency (VE), energy efficiency, discharge capacity, and capacity decay) of an ICRFB is investigated. The storage capacity of the optimum electrolyte (1.3 m FeCl2, 1.4 m CrCl3, 5.0 mm Bi2O3 in 1.0 m HCl) is 40% higher (from 17.5 to 24.4 Ah L−1), while the capacity decay rate is tenfold lower (from 3.0 to 0.3% h−1) than the performance of the previously used 1.0 m FeCl2, 1.0 m CrCl3 in 3.0 m HCl. At the optimum Fe and Cr concentrations and ratio in 0.5 m HCl, a near constant CE (92.3%), VE (78.7%), and EE (72.6%) are obtained over 50 cycles. The significantly higher capacity decay when using 1.0 m H2SO4 (1.6% h−1) compared to 1.0 m HCl (0.3% h−1) confirms that HCl is the more suitable supporting electrolyte.

Crossover, volatilization, and adsorption of ammonium ions in a proton-exchange membrane electrolyzer in relation to electrochemical ammonia production

Electrochemical ammonia (NH3) production from dinitrogen (N2) could be an environmentally sustainable alternative to the traditional manufacturing process (Haber-Bosch). However, a flow electrolysis cell that could elevate the ammonia production to a scale of practical relevance has not been demonstrated yet for this emerging technology. Besides N2, NH3 can be electrochemically produced from nitrogen-containing compounds such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), nitrite (NO2–), and nitrate (NO3–). Product crossover in those processes could significantly interfere with accurate performance evaluation, which has received limited attention. Herein, the commonly used Nafion N112 membrane was found ineffective at preventing the undesired crossover of NH3 or ammonium (NH4+) ions in a flow cell even at the 1 ppm concentration level, with a normalized flux as high as 247 µmol m-2h−1 in Na2SO4 at −0.1 mA cm−2. Severe NH4+ adsorption in Nafion was also observed, particularly when no supporting electrolyte is present. Moreover, the interactions between Nafion and NH4+ depend on the supporting electrolyte type, pH changes induced by ion exchange and applied current during continuous electrolysis. Increasing the membrane thickness altered the rate of NH4+ losses, however, the NH4+ crossover and volatilization cannot be fully mitigated. Lastly, the cation exchange between membrane-adsorbed NH4+ and Na+ from the electrolyte is proposed as a membrane-cleaning procedure to reduce false positives in electrochemical NH3/NH4+ production studies.

Anion exchange membranes: The effect of reinforcement in water and electrolyte

Alkaline anion-conducting polymer-based CO2 electrolysis and water electrolysis are among two emerging renewable energy conversion technologies. Their system design and integration offer promise of lower capital cost due to utilization of low-cost catalysts, in contrast to platinum group metal catalysts required for cation-conducting polymer-based devices. However, a critical component, the polymer electrolyte membrane, remains an obstacle hampering system performance and durability. In this study, commercially-available Sustainion® membranes with and without PTFE-reinforcement were investigated to understand previously unreported origins of improved device performance when compared to alternative membrane chemistries. We report critical membrane properties, such as morphology, thermal stability, as well as temperature-, hydration-, and counter-ion dependent ion conductivity. Moveover, the changes in uptake and conductivity of membranes in supporting electrolytes of K2CO3 and KOH investigated as a function of their concentration. Presence of reinforcement and supporting electrolyte type alter the membrane's transport functionality, which could help guide device design for improved performance. The obtained results not only show how Sustainion® properties change with operating environment for CO2 and water electrolysis applications, but also provide understanding for internal and external factors controlling anion-exhcnage membrane functionality in electrochemical devices.

Investigation of the effect of supporting electrolyte type and pH parameters on electrooxidation color removal from Direct Blue 86

In this study, color removal and electrical consumption from Direct Blue 86 (DB86) dyestuff, commonly used in the textile industry, were investigated using the electrooxidation method. A jacketed glass reactor with a volume of 2000 mL was preferred for the electrooxidation process. Five anode and five cathode electrodes with dimensions of 70 x 100 mm were used. Ti/IrO2/RuO2 was chosen as the anode material, and stainless steel (plate type) electrodes were preferred as the cathode. The effects of the supporting electrolyte type and pH parameters on color removal were investigated. NaCl, KCl, NaNO3, and Na2SO4 were used as supporting electrolytes. Experiments were conducted at pH 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 with an applied current density of 0.325 mA/cm2. The results showed that KCl as the supporting electrolyte provided the highest color removal efficiency with 99.76%. The optimum pH value was found to be pH 9. The minimum energy consumption was calculated as 3.39 kW-h/m3 for pH 11. Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that the electrooxidation method is effective in color removal and can be preferred due to its ease of use and process control advantages.

Glassy Carbon Electrode Modified with CB/TiO2 Layer for Sensitive Determination of Sumatriptan by Means of Voltammetry and Flow Injection Analysis

Sumatriptan is an organic chemical compound from the tryptamine group. It is used as a medicine for migraine attacks and in the treatment of cluster headaches. In this work, a new voltammetric method is proposed for highly sensitive SUM determination, using glassy carbon electrodes modified with carbon black and titanium dioxide suspension. The novelty of the presented work is the usage of the mixture of carbon black and TiO2 as glassy carbon electrode modifier for the first time for SUM determination. The mentioned sensor was characterized by great repeatability and sensitivity of measurements, which resulted in the obtention of a wide range of linearity and a low detection limit. The electrochemical properties of the CB-TiO2/GC sensor was characterized using the LSV and EIS method. The effect of different factors on the SUM peak, such as supporting electrolyte type, preconcentration time and potential, or influence of interferents, were tested using the square wave voltammetry technique. The linear voltammetric response for the analyte was obtained in the concentration range of 5 nmol L−1 to 150 μmol L−1 with a detection limit of 2.9 nmol L−1 for a preconcentration time of 150 s in the 0.1 mol L−1 phosphate buffer pH 6.0. The proposed method was successfully applied for highly sensitive sumatriptan determination in complex matrices, such as tablets, urine, and plasma, with a good recovery parameter (94–105%). The presented CB-TiO2/GC electrode is characterized by great stability, it was used for 6 weeks without significant changes in the SUM peak current. Amperometric and voltammetric measurements of SUM under the flow injection conditions were also performed to indicate the possibility of its fast and accurate determination with a time of single analysis of approx. 30 s.

Evaluation of Ti/Pt Anode Efficiency and Energy Consumption in Turbidity and Suspended Solids Removal from Paper Industry Wastewater: The Effect of pH and Support Electrolyte Type

In the research, different experimental setups were used to examine the treatment of wastewater from the paper industry using the electrooxidation method, one of the electrochemical treatment methods in the batch system. In the 2000 mL volume jacketed glass reactor utilized for the treatment of wastewater from the paper industry, 4 anode and 4 cathode sieve type plates of 7 cm x 10 cm dimensions were positioned at 0.5 cm intervals, and 1200 mL wastewater was used in the tests. Coated sieve type Ti/Pt electrodes were employed as the anode in the electrooxidation studies, and uncoated sieve type Ti electrodes were used as the cathode. It was determined that the active anodic wet surface area was 1078 cm2 . The removal rates of pollutant parameters such as turbidity and SS (Suspended Solids) in the experiments; the effects of wastewater initial pH value and supporting electrolyte type parameters were investigated. According to the results, the most effective pH value for Ti/Pt anode type at 400 rpm mixing speed was determined to be waste water natural pH (7.5), and 0.50 M NaCl was the most successful supporting electrolyte type. 96.92% Suspended Solids removal efficiency and 95.38% turbidity removal efficiency for Ti/Pt anode were achieved under ideal conditions. In addition, 312.05 kW-hour/kg COD is determined as the energy consumption value.

Emerging Contaminants Decontamination of WWTP Effluents by BDD Anodic Oxidation: A Way towards Its Regeneration

Electrochemical oxidation using a boron-doped diamond anode (EO-BDD) was tested to remove emerging contaminants commonly present in wastewater treatment plant effluents (WWTPe). The main objective of the work was the regeneration of this water for its possible reuse in high-quality demanding uses. In the first part of the work, we investigated the potential of this technique for removing a group of neonicotinoid pesticides (thiamethoxam (TMX), imidacloprid (ICP), acetamiprid (ACP), and thiacloprid (TCP)) in a WWTP effluent. The influence of operating variables, such as current density, the conductivity of media, supporting electrolyte type (Na2SO4, NaCl or NaNO3), or the natural aqueous matrix on target variables were fully established. Selected target variables were: (1) the percentage of pollutant removal, (2) the kinetics (apparent pseudo-first-order kinetic rate constant), (3) total organic carbon (TOC) removal, and (4) the specific energy consumption (SEC). A response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to model the results for all cases. In the paper’s final part, this technology was tested with a more broad group of common emerging pollutants, including some azole pesticides (such as fluconazole (FLZ), imazalil (IMZ), tebuconazole (TBZ), or penconazole (PNZ)), antibiotics (amoxicillin (AMX), trimethoprim (TMP), and sulfamethoxazole (SMX)), and an antidepressant (desvenlafaxine (DVF)). The results confirm the power of this technology to remove this emerging contamination in WWTP effluents which supposes an interesting way towards its regeneration.

Evaluation of the Efficiency of Ti/IrO2/RuO2 Anode in COD Removal from Paper Industry Wastewaters by Electrooxidation Method

In the research, the electrooxidation method of the electrochemical treatment methods in thebatch system was explored a variety of experimental conditions for the treatment of wastewater from thepaper sector. 4 anodes and 4 cathodes sieve type plates with dimensions of 7 cm x 10 cm were positionedat 0,5 cm intervals in the 2000 mL volume jacketed glass reactor used for the treatment of wastewater fromthe paper industry, and 1200 mL wastewater was used in the testing. 4 coated Ti/IrO2/RuO2 electrodes ofthe sieve type were used as the anode material and 4 uncoated Ti electrodes of the sieve type were utilizedas the cathode material in the electrooxidation of effluent from the paper industry. In the experiments, theremoval rate of the COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) pollutant parameter; The effects of supportingelectrolyte types and concentrations such as KCl, NaCl, NaNO3, and Na2SO4, and parameters such as initialpH value and current density of wastewater without supporting electrolyte were investigated. According tothe results obtained; In the experiments conducted at the natural pH value of wastewater, 18.55 mA/cm2was the most effective current density, 0.50 M NaCl was the most effective supporting electrolyte type andconcentration. The COD removal rate at the best conditions (37.11 mA/cm2current density) was 90.62%.In optimum conditions; 73.20% COD removal efficiency has been achieved.

Efficient removal of norfloxacin from water using batch airlift-electrocoagulation reactor: optimization and mechanisms analysis.

In this study, we developed an airlift-electrocoagulation (AL-EC) reactor to remove norfloxacin (NOR) from water. Six parameters influencing NOR removal were investigated, and the possible removal mechanism was proposed based on flocs characterization and intermediates analysis. The performances for treating different antibiotics and removing NOR from 3 types of water were also evaluated. The best NOR removal efficiency was obtained with the iron anode and aluminum cathode combination, a current density of 2 mA cm-2, an initial pH of 7, a treatment time of 32 minutes and an air flow rate of 200 mL min-1, the supporting electrolyte type was NaCl, and the initial NOR concentration was 10 mg L-1. Flocs adsorption and electrochemical oxidation were the main ways to remove NOR from water. The average removal efficiency of the AL-EC reactor exceeded 60% of the different antibiotic concentrations in artificial and real water. The highest NOR removal rate reached 93.48% with an operating cost of 0.153 USD m-3. The present work offers a strategy for NOR removal from water with high efficiency and low cost, showing a huge potential for the application of the AL-EC in antibiotic contaminated water treatment.

Use of Hierarchical Carbon Nanofibers Decorated with NiCo Nanoparticles for Highly Sensitive Vortioxetine Determination

A new voltammetry method for the highly sensitive antidepressant drug vortioxetine (VOR) is presented using glassy carbon electrodes modified with hierarchical carbon nanofibers with NiCo nanoparticles (eCNF/CNT/NiCo-GCE). The electrochemical behavior of VOR was investigated by cyclic voltammetry, which indicates that its oxidation is an adsorption-controlled process with the exchange of two electrons and one proton. The effects of various factors on the VOR peak, such as supporting electrolyte type, preconcentration time, and potential, or influence of interferents, were tested using the square wave voltammetry technique (SWV). The linear voltametric response for the analyte was obtained in the concentration range from 0.01·10-6 to 3.0·10-6 mol L-1 with the detection limit of 1.55·10-9 mol L-1 for a preconcentration time of 60 s. The proposed method was successfully applied for highly sensitive VOR determination in complex matrices such as tablets, urine, and plasma with good recovery parameter.

Simultaneous determination of Pb2+ and Hg2+ at food specimens by a Melamine-based covalent organic framework modified glassy carbon electrode

Heavy metals determination is of great importance. In this respect, a recently synthesized melamine-based covalent organic framework (Schiff base network1 (SNW1)) was used in this research as a novel modifier to alter a glassy carbon electrode for the simultaneous anodic stripping square wave voltammetric measurement of Pb2+ and Hg2+ ions. At first, the complexation of SNW1 with Pb2+ and Hg2+ ions were evaluated by density functional theory calculations. Afterward, the modified electrode was characterized by various techniques including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Then, all of the effective experimental factors including pH, supporting electrolyte type, and instrumental parameters were optimized. Under optimized conditions (pH = 2.0, deposition time = 150 S, accumulation potential = -1000 (mV), pulse amplitude = 40 mV, frequency = 50 Hz, and voltage step = 7 mV) the designed sensor showed a linear response over the concentration ranges of 0.01–0.3 and 0.05–0.3 µmol/L for Pb2+ and Hg2+ respectively with a detection limit of 0.00072 and 0.01211 µmol/L. In the end, the designed electrochemical sensor was successfully employed for simultaneous measurement of Pb2+ and Hg2+ at different edible samples.

Electrooxidation treatment of slaughterhouse wastewater: investigation of efficiency of Ti/Pt anode

In the present study, investigation of the applicability and efficiency of electrochemical oxidation (EO) processes for slaughterhouse wastewater (SWW) was targeted by evaluating the treatment efficiency and energy consumption values. The effects of operating parameters, such as the type of supporting electrolyte (SE) (Na2SO4, NaNO3, NaCl, and KCI), supporting electrolyte concentration (SE concentration) (0.1–0.4 M), initial wastewater pH (3–11), and current density (CD) (4.06–12.18 mA/cm2) on the removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended solids (SS), turbidity, and color were investigated. The most effective electrolyte type was observed to be NaCl. The experiment with 0.2 M SE type and 4.06 mA/cm2 current density, at a stirring speed of 400 rpm was accepted as optimum. For these conditions, it was observed that the COD, color, turbidity, and suspended solids (SS) removals were 80.05, 98.64, 99.18, and 98.47%, and energy consumption of 210.7 kWh/m3, respectively. It has been observed that the electro-oxidation process provides substantial efficiency in undesirable parameters in wastewater after 3 h of operation. Additional processes can be added to this process so that the SWW can be reused after treatment, and the recovery and further treatment of the wastewater can be achieved.

Investigation of Nickel Removal from Heavy Metal Containing Industrial Wastewater by Electrocoagulation Method

In the study, Ni2+ (nickel) removal from synthetically prepared wastewater by electrocoagulation method, which is one of the electrochemical treatment processes, was investigated and parameters such as current density, pH, mixing speed, initial Ni2+ concentration, supporting electrolyte type and concentration were determined to determine Ni2+ removal efficiencies effects were studied. Experiment conditions during 30 minutes of electrolysis; the current density was determined as 0.95 mA/cm2, the initial pH of the wastewater was 6, the mixing speed was 150 rpm, and the initial nickel concentration was 250 mg/L. The Ni2+ removal efficiency was obtained as 75.99% under the determined experimental conditions, while the energy consumption was calculated as 3.15 kW-h/m3. In the experiments, it was observed that the type and concentration of the supporting electrolyte did not have a significant effect on the Ni2+ removal efficiency. In the trials where the effect of the support electrolyte concentration was examined, the Ni2+ removal efficiency was 75.99% in the wastewater environment without the supporting electrolyte, while the Ni2+ removal efficiency was 81.55% when 7.5 mmol/L NaCl was used after the 30-minute reaction, and the energy consumption was 2.15 kW-h/m3 obtained as. As a result of the studies, it was concluded that the electrocoagulation process can be applied in the treatment of wastewater containing Ni2+.

Enhanced electro-Fenton processes by persulfate radical for atenolol oxidation from aqueous solution

Background: Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are a group of emerging environmental pollutants that have attracted the attention of many researchers due to their harmful effects on aquatic environment, animals, and humans. Thus, it is necessary to remove these contaminants from water resources. This study aimed to assess the efficiency of enhanced electro-Fenton (EF) process by persulfate (PS) radical for removal of atenolol (ATL) from aqueous solutions. Methods: The bench scale experimental setup was used to examine the factors affecting the ATL removal efficiency from synthetic wastewater; supporting electrolyte type, pH, contact time, PS concentration, Fe concentration, and ATL initial concentration. Results: Based on the results, ATL removal efficiency of 78.6% was reached under the optimum conditions of enhanced EF process by PS radical. The optimum conditions included NaCl (as a supporting electrolyte) dose of 0.5 g/L, pH 5, contact time of 60 minutes, PS dose of 0.15 g/L, Fe dose of 0.15 g/L, current density (CD) of 1.5 A/m2 , and ATL concentration of 40 mg/L. Kinetic model was following the second-order kinetics. Conclusion: The studied advanced oxidation process (AOP) can effectively remove ATL from aqueous solutions. Therefore, it can be used as an effective technique for removing other organic matter from the wastewater.

Investigation of turbidity removal and energy consumption from pistachio processing industry wastewater by electro-oxidation process

ABSTRACT. In this study, it was aimed to remove turbidity, which is an important parameter of water quality, and to examine energy consumption from pistachio processing industry wastewater (PPIW). As working parameters, mixing speed, supporting electrolyte (SE) type and concentration, initial pH value of wastewater, and current density were examined. Graphite was used as the anode material, and stainless steel was used as the cathode material. The highest removal for the mixing speed parameter was achieved at 400 rpm, the maximum efficiency for the SE type was achieved at NaCl, a concentration of 2 M for the SE concentration, a pH of 3.0 for the wastewater initial pH value, and a current density of 30 mA/cm2. However, considering the energy consumption cost in these parameters, the optimal conditions were determined as 1.25 M of SE, pH 3.0, mixing speed of 400 rpm, and current density of 6 mA/cm2. In these conditions, the turbidity removal efficiency was found to be 90.61%. Energy consumption for the same conditions is calculated at 180 kWh/m3. In the results obtained, it is observed that energy consumption decreases as the concentration of SE increases. NaCl, which is the electrolyte that provides maximum efficiency in removing turbidity, is also the electrolyte that provides minimum energy consumption. In electrochemical systems, the cost is as important as lifting efficiency. Therefore, the choice should be made, considering which of these two parameters will be the priority.

Garniture of graphene oxide with NiO@polypyrrole core-shell nanoparticles for making a novel nanosensors for the determination of piceatannol in human and plant samples

For the first time in the world, we expanded an electrochemical nano sensor for detemination of an anti-cancer drug piceatannol based on a new type of nanocomposite: graphene oxide nano sheets arrayed with core-shell NiO@polypyrrole nanoparticles (NiO@Ppy/GO) blended with nafion and sheded on the surface of glassy carbon electrode. The nanocomposite was specified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive Xray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. The square wave voltammetry as a sensitive technique and cyclic voltammetry were selected for the detemination of piceatannol in 0.1M phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.0). Several factors were measured such as pH value, scan rate and supporting electrolyte type for the quantification of piceatannol. Moreover, selectivity and repeatability measurements were also investigated.Under the optimized factors, linear range and limit of detection were calculated 0.01–10.0 μM and 0.003 μM, respectively. Relative standard deviation for 3.0 μM and 6.5 μM were obtained 3.25% and 1.83%, respectively.The offered nanosensors was practicaled successfully for the quantification analysis of piceatannol in grape skin essential oil and urine sample with good results.

Impact of Sinorhizobium meliloti Exopolysaccharide on Adsorption and Aggregation in the Copper(II) Ions/Supporting Electrolyte/Kaolinite System

To obtain insight into physicochemical interactions between Cu(II) ions, kaolinite, and exopolysaccharide (EPS) synthesized by Sinorhizobium meliloti Rm 1021 soil bacteria, an adsorption, electrokinetic, and aggregation study was performed in the selected systems. The obtained data showed that supporting electrolyte type affects both EPS and Cu(II) ions adsorption. For initial Cu(II) concentration 100 mg/L, 4.36 ± 0.25 mg/g (21.80 ± 1.00%) of the ions were adsorbed in 0.001 M NaCl and 3.76 ± 0.20 mg/g (18.80 ± 1.00%) in 0.001 M CaCl2. The experimental data were best fitted to the Langmuir model as well as pseudo second-order equation. The EPS adsorbed amount on kaolinite was higher in the CaCl2 electrolyte than in NaCl one. For an initial polymer concentration of 100 mg/L, the EPS adsorbed amount was 4.69 ± 0.08 mg/g (23.45 ± 0.40%) in 0.001 M NaCl and 5.26 ± 0.15 mg/g (26.32 ± 0.75%) in 0.001 M CaCl2. In the mixed system, regardless of electrolyte type, exopolysaccharide contributed to immobilization of higher amount of copper(II) ions on the clay mineral. Also, in the samples containing heavy metal ions and exopolysaccharide simultaneously, the aggregation of kaolinite particles was the strongest. The results presented in the paper may be very helpful in soil bioremediation, especially in the development of technologies reducing the mobility of heavy metals in the environment.

Hierarchical flower-like SrHPO4 electrodes for the photoelectrochemical degradation of Rhodamine B

SrHPO4 films were deposited on fluorine doped tin oxide coated glass (FTO) substrate by cathodic electrodeposition method for photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) oxidation of Rhodamine B (RhB). The as-prepared films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy system (EDXS) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The effect of different parameters on the RhB electrochemical degradation, including supporting electrolyte type and concentration, current density, pH, and initial dye concentration, is studied. The most efficient conditions were found to be a current density of 10 mA cm−2, NaCl as a supporting electrolyte with a concentration of 0.1 M and a neutral medium which is favorable for HClO oxidizing species generation. Compared to photocatalysis and electrocatalysis, the photoanode displayed more superior photoelectrodegradation efficiency. Indeed, 94.5% removal of RhB (10 mg/L) in 12 min is obtained. This good efficiency is due to the synergetic effect induced by combining electrodegradation with UV-light energy. The reached electrocatalytic performance of SrHPO4 makes it a new promising photoanode for the treatment of wastewaters contaminated by organic pollutants.
