ABSTRACT Childcare resources and parental support remain a concern for many women police officers, who oftentimes become disparately impacted in the workplace due to their identity as a parent. Unpacking how resources and support might directly and indirectly impact commitment to the organization therefore becomes quite important, particularly in light of the retention crisis being faced by agencies across the country. This mixed-methods study employs: (1) ordinary least squares regression and structural equation modeling, in addition to (2) inductive content analysis in order to explore the relationship between organizational commitment, parental support, and social support. Results indicate that parental support and social support have significant positive direct and indirect effects on organizational commitment. Qualitative findings further contextualize that challenges related to scheduling and promotion, breastfeeding, and differential expectations between mothers and fathers are prominent. Potential avenues for improvement in these areas are explored.
