Implementation of Contextual Learning Strategies in Small Class Sunday Schools

Effective learning strategies are very important in achieving learning objectives, especially in the context of Christian Religious Education in Sunday Schools. One of the strategies that can be applied is Contextual Teaching and Learning. This research aims to analyze the implementation of contextual learning strategies in small class Sunday School. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The participants consisted of Sunday School teachers and small class students. The results show that the implementation of contextual learning strategies in small class Sunday School includes seven main components: constructivism, discovery, questioning, learning community, modeling, reflection, and authentic assessment. This strategy is effective in improving students' understanding and engagement in the learning process. The implementation of contextual learning strategies in small class Sunday School is proven to facilitate meaningful learning that is relevant to students' daily lives. This strategy can be an alternative for teachers in designing and implementing Christian Religious Education learning that is more contextual and effective.

Lesson Learned from Post-Disaster Psychosocial Support for Children in Palu, Central Sulawesi—Indonesia

In the aftermath of the devastating Palu disaster in September 2018, communities, especially children, suffered deep psychological trauma. At the request of faith leaders, local NGO Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), in partnership with Krida Wacana Christian University (UKRIDA), conducted a psychosocial support training program for volunteers, including Qur’an recitation teachers and Sunday school teachers in Palu. These trained volunteers then initiated a psychosocial support initiative for children in the area. Years later, WVI and UKRIDA conducted a reflective study of the program, collecting data from 40 volunteers through focus group discussions and surveys. The study identified key themes, including the effectiveness of the training, reflections on program implementation, lessons learned, and recommendations for future programs. The study underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder involvement, particularly that of faith-based organizations, in providing psychosocial support in disaster-affected areas. Given the recurring threat of disasters in the region, the study advocates for transparent collaboration among various social stakeholders. To build community resilience, disaster management strategies need to be widely disseminated, and the need for continuous training to strengthen community preparedness is emphasized. In addition, the development of culturally sensitive training modules tailored to the community’s language, age, and religious background is essential. Such a comprehensive commitment will ensure the community’s ability to deal effectively with future disasters. Detailed findings are discussed further in this paper.

Analisis Pengaruh Pembinaan Dan Keteladanan Guru Sekolah Minggu Berdasarkan Yakobus 3:1-12 Terhadap Pertumbuhan Rohani Anak-Anak Di Gereja-Gereja Bandar Lampung

This research is motivated by various factors that have been limited within the boundaries of the problem, namely it was found that not all Sunday School Teachers carry out good training practices, it was observed that not all Sunday School Teachers were role models and it was found that not all Sunday School Children experienced optimal spiritual growth. The purpose of this research is to examine the influence of Sunday School teachers' guidance and exemplary behavior based on James 3:1-12 on the spiritual growth of Sunday School children in churches in the Bandar Lampung area. The method used by the researcher in data collection efforts is quantitative, where questionnaires are the primary method, supported by literature review and observation methods. The population in this study consists of 80 Sunday School teachers in churches in the Bandar Lampung area. Based on the results of the multiple regression test between the three variables, it is known that there is an influence of Sunday School teachers' guidance and exemplary behavior based on James 3:1-12 (X1, X2) on the spiritual growth of Sunday School children in churches in the Bandar Lampung area (Y) with an R Square of 0.789 or 78.9%, which falls into the high category. If the influence of variable X on Y with an R Square of 78.9%, then there are still 21.1% other influencing factors. Thus, the results of the hypothesis proposed by the researcher, "it is suspected that there is an influence of Sunday School teachers' guidance and exemplary behavior based on James 3:1-12 collectively on the spiritual growth of Sunday School children in churches in the Bandar Lampung area," have been proven and accepted.

Learning Strategies Of Sunday School Teachers In Installing The Character Of Discipline

Sunday School means traditional church To train children in Biblical truth. However, Sunday Schools, and more broadly, children's ministry programs, are undergoing a change in identity. The aim of this research is to describe Sunday school teachers' strategies in instilling disciplined character in GBI Bassura Sunday School children. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with a literature review approach, which means through a study of various references. The research results show that Sunday School teachers should develop learning strategies that contain a disciplinary character. Possible strategies include: 1) Developing a learning curriculum based on discipline education, 2) Conducting regular meetings between parents and Sunday School children, 3) Determining punishments and rewards, 4) Carrying out group coaching, 5) Implementing habituation methods. In conclusion, by consistently implementing effective strategies, the Sunday Teachers' School will give birth to a generation of Christians who have disciplined character in accordance with Christian values.

The present article draws attention to the fact that modern parish educational activities, in addition to a narrowly specialized orientation, can become an additional, replenishing and enriching resource for the general school education in terms of spiritual and moral upbringing of children and their harmonious development when changing pedagogical approaches to the organization of the educational process. It is noted that Sunday schools today are experiencing a crisis of children's and especially teenagers' departure from Sunday schools and, as a result, from the church. In this regard, it is proposed to seek and use all the opportunities and resources of parish activities in order to create an interesting, enriching event space, which includes children, parents, teachers and clergy. The eventfulness, which is created due to jointly divided activities, meets the needs of adolescents, taking into account their age-related psychological.The article substantiates the opinion that innovative educational technologies (creative workshops, experimental laboratories, bibliodramas, hagiodramas, educational pilgrimage, etc.) contribute to the creation of eventfulness. Active interaction with objects of the surrounding world, personally significant interactivity, cooperation and dialogical communication of participants, emotional experience from joint discoveries and obtained results, the possibility of feedback - can be considered as significant advantages of such technologies.This paper, as sharing of experience, presents a description of two creative workshops for teenagers and Sunday school teachers and notes their educational, upbringing and developmental potential. However, to make educational technologies an effective means for achieving the priority goal of the parish education - spiritual development and growth of children in faith, it is necessary to observe certain pedagogical conditions, which are indicated in the presented article.The determined pedagogical conditions impose special requirements on the teaching staff engaged in the educational activities at the parish.This article contains references to other articles by the author that will help to form a comprehensive understandung of pedagogical views on the problem of parish care of children in modern realities and may prove useful for teachers in the organization of educational and upbringing activities at the parish.

Pengaruh Isi Pengajaran dan Metode Mengajar Berdasarkan Kitab Markus terhadap Pembentukan Katakter Anak Sekolah Minggu Gereja Alkitab Indonesia di Jawa Tengah

The background of this research arises from the problem of lack of knowledge about the content of teaching based on the Book of Mark or formal Christian religious education among Gereja Kristen Alkitab Indonesia Sunday school teachers in Central Java. The application of the Teaching Content based on the Book of Mark requires teaching methods based on the Book of Mark that are also effective, creative, and relevant for use today. This type of research is quantitative research with a descriptive analysis approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The sample in this study amounted to 110 respondents with a sampling technique based on Simple Random Sampling. Data analysis uses applications and program formulas known as Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS). The results of this study indicate that there is an influence of teaching content based on the Book of Mark (X1) on the character building of Gereja Kristen Alkitab Indonesia Sunday school children in Central Java with R Square of 0.275, there is an influence of teaching methods based on the Book of Mark (X2) on the character building of Gereja Kristen Alkitab Indonesia Sunday school children in Central Java, with R Squqre of 0.458, and proven to have a significant influence of teaching content based on the Book of Mark (X1) and teaching methods based on the Book of Mark (X2) together on the character building of Gereja Kristen Alkitab Indonesia Sunday school children in Central Java (Y) with adjusted R Square 0.452. Shows the effect of variables X1 and X2 on Y is 0.452 or 45.2% so that the less 54.8% is influenced by factors outside this study.

A Balance Between Tradition and Innovation: A Review of Teaching Methodologies in Modern Sunday Schools

Religious education in modern Sunday schools faces challenges in achieving a balance between tradition and innovation in teaching methodology. This study aims to explore the significant differences between traditional and innovative approaches and their implications for children's faith growth. The method used is a literature review to analyze relevant literature. The results point to the need to develop a balanced balance between these approaches to create inclusive and relevant learning environments for children. The implications of this research are the importance of developing an integrative learning model, using a case study approach and field research, and developing training programs for Sunday School teachers. With this implication in mind, this study makes a significant contribution to religious education practitioners, policy makers, and communities in creating learning environments that support children's faith growth holistically and sustainably.

Media Audio Visual sebagai Alat Peraga pada Penyampaian Firman bagi Anak Usia 4-6 Tahun di Sekolah Minggu GKKK Bandung

Pandemic conditions have caused several elements in society, including the economy, health and especially education to change. So that shifts and innovations are needed, one of which is teaching techniques in Sunday school to help teachers convey the Word of God in class. Such as the use of props that can help teachers convey stories to children in class. The use of props that involve IT or audio visual media-based technology such as videos, televisions, slides is expected to attract children’s attention so that they can understand the essence of the story. The teaching of audio-visual media is inspired by the teaching method that the Lord Jesus applied when teaching the crowds and His disciples, “Look at the birds of the sky who neither plant nor reap nor gather into barns” (Matthew 6:34). In teaching, the Lord Jesus often used natural media as a way for Him to convey His Word. This research discusses the role of audio visual media used by teachers in delivering various topics. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Based on this research, it is concluded that the role of audio-visual media is so great in helping Sunday school teachers in teaching to be easily accepted and understood by children and recorded more easily in children’s memory.

Learning Readiness of Gki Classic Waibumoi Sunday School Children Assessed In Physical And Psychological Conditions

The purpose of this study is to elaborate on the development of readiness to learn among Sunday school children in the GKI Klasis Waibu Moi, viewed from both physical and psychological dimensions. Data for this study were obtained through observation and interviews. Observation activities were conducted at GKI Diaspora Doyo Baru, GKI Yo Anibi, GKI Mahanai, and GKI Lahe Roi. Meanwhile, interview activities were conducted with representatives of Sunday school children, parents, and Sunday school teachers. The interview data collected were then subjected to reduction, classification, and analysis processes. The results of the study indicate that the readiness to learn among Sunday school children in GKI Klasisi Waibu, viewed from two dimensions, namely physical and psychological dimensions. The physical dimension includes the family's income level, education, career, and parental parenting patterns. THE EFFICACY OF PAN AFRICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY TRANSFORMATIVE SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM ON THE TEACHER’S MORAL AND SOCIAL LIFE

Nearly every civilization has faced a plethora of moral issues since the introduction of contemporary innovations, including violence, drug misuse, nepotism, thievery, corruption, immorality, and sexual abuse. The old institutions that formerly taught social cohesion, morality, and the meaning of life have been eroded and are no longer helpful. This study argues that Sunday school, which Robert Raikes founded in the eighteenth century, remains essential for teaching morality to the next generation. It examines how Pan Africa Christian University's training program aligns with Sunday school teachers’ understanding of contemporary Christianity, at Christ Is The Answer Ministries in Kapsabet, Nandi County. The study employed a convergent parallel mixed-method research design. The target population was 135 participants, including trained teachers, church leaders and parents with children in Sunday school. The study findings indicated a statistically positive and significant relationship between the Transformational Leadership Training Program and Teachers’ moral life at (r=0.519**; p<0.05). The study findings also revealed a statistically significant relationship between the Transformational Leadership Training Program and Teachers’ social lifestyle at (r=0.509**; p<0.05). PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN KOOPERATIF UNTUK MENINGKATKAN ETIKA ANAK SEKOLAH MINGGU DI GPdI KAVLING SEROJA BATAM

The aim of this research is to determine the application of the cooperative learning model to improve the ethics of Sunday school children at GPdI Kavling Seroja Batam. This research is research in the form of field research or field research is a type of research. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The data in this research comes from primary and secondary data. Data collection methods use observation, interviews and documentation. Interviews were conducted with the community at the PkM location. The research results obtained in implementing cooperative learning to improve the ethics of Sunday school children at GPdI Kavling Seroja Batam mean that a Sunday school teacher can make the ethics of Sunday school children better and learning more active. Using creative learning models is one way that can be done. implemented so that learning becomes more active and will influence the learning outcomes of Sunday school children. This success is determined by other interesting activities that can support the improvement of Sunday school children's soft skills. The inhibiting factor in efforts to maximize this is the lack of understanding of parents regarding this matter, the school environment and the home environment of Sunday school children.

Pelayanan PAK di Gereja Bagi Anak Sekolah Minggu

The study aims to find out what the ideal church service is like for Sunday school children. The research method used is the study of libraries, interview approaches and observation of the ministry of several churches for Sunday schoolchildren. Through a number of literacy, observation and interviews with a number of Sunday school teachers, it is known that the problem of ministry to Sunday school largely arises from the church itself where many weaknesses lie in the Pastor and Assembly who are still less serious about improving the ministry of PAK to children in the church. Some suggestions to address the problem are: 1). Priests should facilitate teaching, provide week school curriculum and actively engage in serving Sunday school worship. 2). The Church needs to include a special budget for the increase in Sunday School Teacher’s HR. 3). The Church needs to periodically evaluate the Sunday school service. 4). The Church needs to work on service facilities ranging from child-friendly specialty spaces. 5). The Church needs to engage members of the congregation who have pedagogic and theological competencies to support Sunday school service. 6). Even in limitations, Sunday school teachers need to update their knowledge and skills in varying the teaching methods of week schoolchildren.

Gaya Mengajar Interaksional Yesus Sebagai Pola Dalam Menyampaikan Firman Tuhan Di Sekolah Minggu

This research is aimed at providing exposure to educators, in this case Sunday school teachers, about Jesus' interactional teaching style. It is hoped that by understanding Jesus' interactional teaching style, Sunday school teachers can be more effective in conveying the truth of God's Word. This research is important, considering that the aim of conveying God's Word is life change. However, this goal has not been achieved optimally. This is because individual educators do not understand teaching styles that can make the learning process in Sunday school more interesting and effective. To find this teaching style, researchers used qualitative research methods with literature studies and expositions from the Gospels about Jesus' teaching style. There are 5 principles of Jesus' interactional teaching style, namely: Dialogue, two-way delivery, situational problems, dominant role of students and teachers as facilitators.

Pengembangan Edukasi Teknologi Melalui Game Rohani Kepada Anak-Anak Kristen Masa Kini di GKLI Sipoholon

The purpose of this study was to develop children's ability to use technology through spiritual games. The research method used in this study is a qualitative approach method. Data collection using observation techniques and direct interviews with children and Sunday school teachers at GKLI Sipoholon. The results showed that the use of spiritual games has the potential to increase children's understanding of religious teachings and morality. The importance of developing spiritual education in the digital era demands creativity and innovation in providing learning to children. In an era of ever-evolving technology, education in the church environment requires an innovative approach. Spiritual games are defined as interactive game applications specifically designed to provide religious and moral learning experiences. Spiritual games are an interesting bridge to the world of Christian children. Through the development of technological media, especially spiritual games. Thus, the development of technology education through spiritual games at GKLI Sipoholon is a progressive step in educating and guiding Christian children today, in line with the mission of spiritual formation of the church.

Christian Worker Analogy According to 2 Timothy 2:1-13 and Its Implications for Sunday School Teacher Professionalism

This article is conducting research based on the analogy by the Apostle Paul mentioned in 2 Timothy 2:1-13. In the text, Paul makes an analogy of Christian workers in three analogies. This analogy has something to do with the teacher’s professionalism. Therefore the research being done here is divided into two parts, namely the analogy of Christian workers in 2 Timothy 2:1-13 and the second part the implications for the professionalism of Sunday school teachers. The research approach being used includes exegesis research through utilizing Biblical hermeneutic principles and also through utilizing an analysis of implications. The hermeneutic process of the Bible is carried out by analyzing the context and meaning that is found in the text of 2 Timothy 2:1-13. We have used several relevant sources such as books on Bible commentaries and various research reports both in journals and repositories. The implication analysis was carried out after completing the exegesis of 2 Timothy 2:1-13. We have examined the various phenomena that are related to the professionalism of Sunday school teachers and find their correlation to the results of the exegesis already conducted beforehand. The results of the study show that Christian workers by way of analogy in comparison to soldiers, sportsmen, and farmers. The first is the soldier analogy. The soldier analogy explains that the Christian worker is ready to fight on the battlefield to defend his faith in Christ. The second analogy is the sportsman analogy. The sportsman's analogy explains that Christian workers must prepare himself or herself before the competition. In the analogy of sportsmen, Christian workers must be consistent, enterprising, and ready to finish the matches with an enthusiastic spirit. The third analogy is the farmer's analogy. The farmer's analogy explains that Christian workers must be ready to plant the seed of God's Word in everyone's heart. In the farmer's analogy, Christian workers must also be patient and diligent in caring for the seeds of the world that are planted so that these seeds may produce fruit.

Kontribusi Seni Budaya Karungut Dalam Menyampaikan Cerita Alkitab Pada Anak Sekolah Minggu

The problem that will be discussed is how the art of karugut culture can be used as a medium for teaching Sunday school children and conveying the values ​​of the message of Bible stories by making karugut art as one of the media that can be used. The aim of this research is to develop the karkut art media as a learning medium for how Sunday school teachers can use thekarkut art media when teaching Sunday school children. The methods used in this research include: interviews, observation, literature study. From the results of the research, it is proven that by teaching using the sackut art method there is a significant increase as previously the attendance of Sunday school children was small but when using the sackut art the attendance and enthusiasm of Sunday school children increased.

Metode Guru Sekolah Minggu dalam Pengajaran Doa-Doa Pokok terhadap Anak Minggu Gembira di Stasi ST. Yohanes Don Bosco Sukajulu Tiga Jumpa

Purpose: This research aims to explore the methods used by Sunday School teachers to teach fundamental prayers to the children of Minggu Gembira at St. Yohanes Don Bosco Sukajulu Tiga Jupa. Methodology: This study adopted a qualitative approach using a single case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the teaching methods employed by Sunday schoolteachers include the use of visual media, repetition, and real-life examples. Results: This study explored the effectiveness of The Sunday School teacher's method in teaching the main prayers to the children of Sunday Joy at St. John Don Bosco Sukajulu Tiga Jumpa Station. Results indicate that this method shows promise in enhancing children's understanding and retention of key prayers Limitations: The limitations include small sample size and limited generalizability to other settings. Further research is required to assess the long-term impact of this method on children's spiritual growth and development. Contribution: This study contributes to the development of teaching methods for fundamental prayers in Sunday Schools and provides insights into how Minggu Gembira children respond to teaching methods.

Fun English Activities Untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Berbahasa Inggris Bagi Kelompok Pelayanan Anak dan Remaja

As an effort to increase enthusiasm and English learning in non-formal institutions, the Sunday School teachers embrace new methods containing organizing Community Service programs in collaboration with the universities. It is hoped that the method applied will increase children's motivation to join the learning process in a creative and fun way. Several things that are considered priority problems that must be resolved include: (1) Implementing Fun English Activities, (2) Increasing English vocabulary, (3) Pronunciation of English vocabulary and (4) Increasing enthusiasm and motivation for learning English. The solution offered is in the form of creative and fun English learning through games and songs as well as learning media with a Biblical theme. The activities were divided into two groups, first to fourth graders, and the fifth to sixth graders. The first group learned colors in various ways, vocabulary, and pronunciation in English. Meanwhile, the other group learned the Lord’s prayers and important vocabularies related to salvation. Both activities are equipped with interesting learning media. As the implementation, evaluation was conducted in the form of a quiz.

The Environmental Education Based on Atoni Pah Meto Culture

The issue of environmental damage has become a problem discussed by world leaders. The people of East Nusa Tenggara, especially Atoni Pah Meto really protect the environment. However, in recent years there has been manganese mining in their area which has caused damage to the environment where they live. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze environmental education based on local culture conducted by Atoni Pah Meto. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The data collection technique used is the interview. Interviews were conducted with 15 people consisting of parents, children, Sunday school teachers, church administrators, and pastors. The results of the study show that Atoni Pah Meto embraces a local culture that states ‘land as mother’. When they intend to destroy nature, it means they are committing crimes with their own mothers. When they take anything from nature with the same greed they make their mothers cry. The life of Atoni Pah Meto appreciates nature more so that the relationship that is created between humans and nature is a relationship that is mutually beneficial and not detrimental to one party for the benefit of the other.
