Design of Portable Fingerprint System Prototype for Student Presence Integrated with Academic Information System at the Universitas Sumatera Utara

University Sumatra Utara (USU) has an Academic Information System to record all academic transactions from students digitally including student attendance data. Attendance recording is still entered manually into the system from the presence system that uses paper media. In this research a prototype attendance system is carried out that can be directly entered into the system without using paper media. Attendance system is built by using Arduino to read and collect attendance data from the fingerprint sensor. Furthermore, an application is developed to synchronize the data from Arduino to the Academic Information System of USU. From the test result, it is obtained that the accuracy and the sensitivity of the sensor is 90%.

CONSONANT GEMINATES IN SIMALUNGUN LANGUAGE

This study aims to describe morphophonemic processes which result in consonant geminates as well as to classify types of consonant geminates in Simalungun language. Types of geminates in this study are analyzed from the morphophonemic processes resulted in consonant geminates and from the true or fake types of geminates. The data analyzed in this paper is collected during a short fieldwork in Pematang Raya Kecamatan Raya (Raya district), Simalungun regency, Sumatra Utara Province. From the analysis, it can be concluded that consonant geminates in Simalungun language always occur word-medially. Consonant geminates found in this language are [pp], [tt], [kk], [ss], [ll], [gg], [nn] and [mm]. Based on the morphophonemic processes, geminates in Simalungun language can be divided into four types: (1) consonant geminates resulted from assimilation of a nasal to a following homorganic stop, (2) consonant geminates resulted from velarization and assimilation, (3) assimilation of heterorganic consonant clusters and (4) nasal geminates. Regarding true and fake type of geminates, true geminates in Simalungun are found morpheme-internally or lexicalized; fake geminates are resulted from affixation and clitization. True geminates in Simalungun are [pp], [tt], [ss], [kk], [gg] and [mm], while the fake geminates found in this language are [ss], [kk], [ll] and [nn].

Parasitization and Identification of The Red Guava Fruit Fly Parasitoids in The Deli Serdang District

Deli Serdang District is one of the regions producing red guava fruit in Sumatra Utara. Cultivation of fruit trees is never separated from pest disorders, which can cause a decrease in the quality and quantity of fruit. Then proper control is needed so that it can maintain the balance of insect populations in the field. This study aims to determine the type of parasitoid and parasitoid parasitic levels in red guava crops. Identification morphology of parasitoid’s fruit flies rearing from red guava fruit that had been attacked by fruit flies was taken from several locations of red guava crops in Deli Serdang District. Two species of parasitoid Psytalia sp. the parasitic fruit fly in the red guava crop. The parasitoids that have been found then identified at LIPI, Cibinong, Bogor morphologically has many similarities with Psytalia walker and Psytalia walkeri so that identification of species is only made close to the morphology of the species. Only in two locations were found parasitoid’s rearing from infected fruit, namely Parasitization rate of 6.9% in Sei Beras Sekata village, and Kolam village of 3.6%.

The Relationship between Social Economic Levels and Anemia Events in Pregnant Women in Glugur Darat Health Center

Background : Anemia is a condition where the hemoglobin level in the blood was lower than normal. Anemia diagnosed when the hemoglobin level was <11 gr / dl in the first and third trimesters or <10.5 gr% in the second trimester in pregnant women. WHO stated in 2010 that 40% of the causes of maternal mortality in developing countries were associated with ane­mia in pregnancy. Based on the Riskesdas (Basic Health Research) in 2013, the prevalence of ane­mia in pregnant women in Indonesia was 37.1%. One of the factors that influenced the inciden­ce of anemia in pregnant women was the socio-economic level. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between socio-economic level and the incidence of anemia in preg­nant women at the Glugur Darat Health Center. Subjects and Method: This was an analytical study with a cross sectional approach, conducted at Glugur Darat health center, Medan in 2018. Total 65 pregnant women were selected by consecutive sampling. The independent were the education level, job status, income level. The dependent variable was the incidence of anemia in pregnant women. Data obtained by a set of questionnaire. The data analysis was conducted using Chi Square test . Results: As many as 40 pregnant women (61.5%) had anemia and 25 (38.5%) who were not anemic. 34 people (85.0%) among pregnant women with anemia was in the non-risk group, and 22 people in the Multi-gravida group (55.0%), 16 (40.0%) people in the Primipara group, 27 people (67.5%) in Trimester gestational age III. As many as 28 people (70.0%) had secondary education. Based on occupational 31 people (77.5%) was not working, 19 people (47.5%) had medium income. Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between the level of education, occupational status, and income level with the incidence of anemia in pregnant women. ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIBING PROFILE FOR PEDIATRIC AT THE PHARMACY OF MEDAN CITY IN 2016

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine antibiotics prescribing profile for pediatric in Medan, Sumatra Utara (Indonesia) in 2016.Methods: This study was using a retrospective cross-sectional method study which conducted from October to November 2016 with data from July to August 2016. From 93 pharmacies, there are 2195 prescribed for pediatric and 740 (33.71%) prescriptions contained antibiotic. The antibiotic analyzed based on the group, type, duration of administration, and dosage-drug form along with the dose.Results: The antibiotic that mostly prescribed for pediatric was penicillin (amoxicillin) 329 prescriptions (44.46%). The onset of antibiotic revealed that 581 prescriptions (78.51%) were valid. The dosage form that most prescribed was syrup 230 prescriptions (31.08%). From 278 prescriptions, it showed that 177 (61.67%) prescriptions within an appropriate dose.Conclusion: It shows that penicillin (amoxicillin) was the most prescribed antibiotic for pediatric in Medan and there are still in appropriate dose selections.

The effect of gamma rays irradiation on the growth and flavonoid content of kenikir (Cosmos caudatus Kunth.)

The aim of the research was to identify agronomical characteristics and flavonoid content of kenikir (Cosmos caudatusKunth.) irradiated by gamma rays with several dosages. Seeds of kenikir were irradiated by gamma rays in radiator chamber 4000 A using 60Co source at Isotope and Radiation Application Center, BATAN, Jakarta. Dosages of irradiation ranging from 50 Gy-300 Gy with interval 50 Gy. Subsequently, irradiated seed along with unirradiated seeds (control) were planted in Greenhouse Agriculltural Faculty, Universitas Sumatera Utara (± 32 meters above sea level). The variation of agronomical characters (plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, number of branches per plant and flowering age) were observedfrom 1st week up to 9th week after planting. Data were analyzed by t-test using minitab 18 program. The flavonoid content of leaves extract were analyzed using spektrofotometer UV-VIS in Research Laboratory, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatra Utara. The results showed that the mean values of M1 generation of all agronomical characters observed were lower than control plants whereas the highest flavonoid content was found in the population of gamma ray irradiated at 100 Gy.

Utilization of Bio Slurry with Input of Buffalo Faeces and Water Hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes) With Various Doses of MOD (Microorganism Decomposer) on Productivity of Daun Kupu-kupu (Bauhinia Purpurea)

This study aims to determine effects of utilization of Bio-Gas Slurry With buffalo Feces Input And water hyacinth with Various Dosage MOD (Microorganisme Decomposer) on Productivity of Bauhinia Purpurea. Research conducted at the field experimental, Samosir Sumatra Utara in April-November 2017. The design used in the study was split plot design with four replications. First factor (M): dosage decomposer, M1= 1 liters/150 kg and M2= 2 liters/150 kg. Second factor (P): dosage was fertilizier of Bio-Gas Slurry With buffalo Feces Input And water hyacinth(ton/ha/year), P0=0, P1=20, P2=40. The variable were studied fresh weight production, dry weight production, plant height and number of leaves. The results showed that dosage decomposer and dosage of fertilizer Bio-Gas Slurry significantly affect plant height, fresh weight production, dry weight production, and number of leaves Bauhinia Purpurea. The utilization of Bio-Gas With buffalo Feces Input And water hyacinth with Various Dosage MOD affect fresh weight production, dry weight production, plant height and number of leaves. It is concluded that dosage 2 liter/150 kg and application 40 ton/ha/year show higher on production of Bauhinia Purpurea.

The robust design for improving crude palm oil quality in Indonesian Mill

This research was conducted in palm oil mill in Sumatra Utara Province, Indonesia. Currently, the main product of this mill is Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and hasn’t met the expected standard quality. CPO is the raw material for many fat derivative products. The generally stipulated quality criteria are dirt count, free fatty acid, and moisture of CPO. The aim of this study is to obtain the optimal setting for factor’s affect the quality of CPO. The optimal setting will result in an improvement of product’s quality. In this research, Experimental Design with Taguchi Method is used. Steps of this method are identified influence factors, select the orthogonal array, processed data using ANOVA test and signal to noise ratio, and confirmed the research using Quality Loss Function. The result of this study using Taguchi Method is to suggest to set fruit maturity at 75.4-86.9%, digester temperature at 95°C and press at 21 Ampere to reduce quality deviation until 42.42%.

Public open space as the only urban space for walking: Sumatera Utara experience

One of successful public open space (POS) criteria is the proper pedestrian linkage. Furthermore, a good quality POS should pay attention to pedestrian activities. This will contribute to the physical and mental health of people and enhance their quality of life. The research means to investigate how POS accommodate the pedestrians. The study takes place in twenty small towns in Sumatra Utara province, Indonesia. The analysis is a descriptive, explorative study that collects data about physical elements of POS. The survey also uses a set of questionnaire to get information about the visitors walking tradition. The result of the study shows that most of the citizens approach and get to the POS by vehicle, both cars, and motorcycles. They use their private vehicles although the distance between their houses and the POS is less than one kilometer. There is no pedestrian linkage that connects the POS with the other part of urban space. However, the POS is active by various physical activities, such as walking, playing and exercising. These events occur both in pedestrian ways in the periphery, inside the POS, and in the other spots of the POS, such as grass field or multipurpose plaza. The visitors’ vehicle tradition relates to the whole urban space which is planned in a car-oriented way. Thus, the POS becomes the only space that people can walk and enjoy the environment.

Changing of Sumatra backswamp peat properties by seawater and zeolite application

This research attempts to improve the properties of backswamp peatsoil originated from Asahan District, North Sumatra Indonesia by adding sea water and zeolite using factorial randomized block design with volume of sea water as first factor, consisting of without seawater, 500 ml, 1000 ml and 1500 ml and second factor are dosages of zeolite consisting of without zeolite, 100 g, 200 g each 10 kgs of wet peat soil. at green house in faculty of agriculture University of Sumatra Utara (USU) Medan, Indonesia. The result showed that the application of seawater decreased pH, C/N and Cation Exchange Capacity and increased of base saturation of peat soil. Adding of zeolite minerals can buffered the increasing of acidity and Electric Conductivity caused by sea water application. Interaction seawater + zeolite decreased of C/N and increased of percent of base saturation.

BUFFALO FECES GRANTING AND URINE OF SLUDGE PRODUCTION AND QUALITY OF GRASS ELEPHANT MINI ( PENNISETUM PURPUREUM SCHAMACH )

Community farms mostly only use the main products of the farm alone, did not see many more opportunities of byproducts such as feces and urine of livestock. Byproducts can be used for very useful organic fertilizers from crops especially forage for animal feed such as mini elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum schamach) which is able to grow in various types of soil and is a grass of high nutritional value of fiber favored by livestock. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects from the provision of feces and urine buffalo mud and cutting intervals on the production and nutritional content of Pennisetum purpureum schamach. This research has been conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatra Utara from July to October 2015. This study used Split Plot Design, consisting of cutting interval (4 weeks and 6 weeks) as main plot and type of fertilizer (control / no fertilizer application, mud buffalo feces, buffalo feces + non fermented urine buffalo and feces from buffalo mud + urine fermentation) as subplot. The observed variables were plant height, fresh production, dried production, number of tillers, crude protein and crude fiber from Pennisetum purpureum schamach forage. Cutting intervals have a significant effect on improving nutritional content such as crude protein and crude fiber of mini elephant grass. The interaction of the results showed that the provision of impurities from mud buffalo (feces and urine) gave a real effect to increase fresh production, dry matter production, plant height and number of mini elephant grass. Analysis of Student Satisfaction in The Process of Teaching and Learning Using Importance Performance Analysis

This study aims to determine the level of student satisfaction in the learning process at the University of Sumatra Utara, Indonesia. The sample size of the study consisted 1204 students. Students’ response measured through questionnaires an adapted on a 5-point likert scale and interviews directly to the respondent. SERVQUAL method used to measure the quality of service with five dimensions of service characteristics, namely, physical evidence, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and concern. The result of Importance Performance Analysis reveals that six services attributes must be corrected by policy maker of University Sumatera Utara. The quality of service is still considered low by students.

IDENTIFIKASI JENIS - JENIS IKAN DI SUNGAI BATANG GADIS KECAMATAN MUARASIPONGI KABUPATEN MANDAILING NATAL SUMATERA UTARA

Research about "Identification the type of fish in Sungai Batang Gadis Muarasipongi subdistrict Mandailing Natal Sumatra Utara" The study aims to determine the types of fish and Chemical Physics parameters. Research using descriptive methods and determination of observation stations is purposive sampling, that the sampling technique. The results of the study there are five types of fish that are grouped into two orders, namely the Cypriniformes and Siluriformes,and 3 Family namely Cyprinidae, Balitoridae, Sisoridae. The conclusion of the study there are 5 types of fish are included in the 2 Order and 3 Family entirely included into the group Osteichthyes. Most of the Order Cypriniformes and Siluriformes smallest. Most are family Cyprinidae. Results Physical and chemical parameters including water temperature 22oC; pH 7,53; brightness 1.40m; a depth of river 2.28 m; the flow velocity of river 2.09 m / sec; river width of 18 m.

Ants are one potential predator of O. rhinoceros L. (Coleoptera: Scarabaidae). The purpose of this study wasto determine the ants of colony Mypoponae castanea as predators of the palm stem borer O. rhinoceros(Coleoptera: Scarabaidae) on a pile of oil palm trunk in the laboratory. This research was conducted at theLaboratory of Pest Plant of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatra Utara, Medan (± 25 m abovesea level). This research was conducted in November 2014 to Agustus 2015. The results showed a colony ofM. castanea had one queen with 5-6 male ants and 60-70 worker ants in the laboratory.

This event which was attended by about 260 partisipants from all continents, was organized by the Indonesian Polymer Association (HPI), which was supported by Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) and Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED) on November 7 – 10, 2016.This special edition encompasses a range of complementary research topics from excellent scientists concentrated in the southern hemisphere. The increasing global interest in sustainability is highlighted in this issue, with novel methods, new materials, applications and products. IMPLEMENTASI TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTANCE MODEL DALAM AKTIVITAS BELANJA ONLINE MELALUI MEDIA SOSIAL INSTAGRAM DI KALANGAN MAHASISWA UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA

Social media used by the users for various purposes. Many features and complete attractive application made social media is easy to accepted by users. Instagram is one of social media much used among students, one of the purpose of its use is to do online shopping. Technology Acceptance Model or TAM by Davis (1988) assume that perceived easy of use and perceived usefulness factors influence upon acceptance or use of technology. The purpose of this research is to identify the influence of perceived easy of use and perceived usefulness by user on the actual usage of social media instagram in online shopping activity among Sumatra Utara University students. This research uses the quantitative method by spreading questionnaire to 96 respondents. Data processed by using SPSS version 20. The research results show that both variables of perceived easy of use and perceived usefulness was influence upon the actual usage of social media instagram in online shopping activity among University Sumatra Utara students. The Influence is 45,3 percent in medium category.

Exploring Ideas in Formulating Urban Design Guidelines for Public Open Space in Sumatra Utara, Indonesia

The aim of this study is to explore some design ideas that can be applied in public open space (POS), particularly in Sumatra Utara regions. The objective is to get a set of design model of POS that can meet people needs and support their quality of life. The first part of this article resumes the findings of previous research of 21 POS and 1346 respondents. The result will be the “raw material” to define problems and potencies. Next, the study analyzes some aspects o f POS to construct the initial design concept. Improving the Students’ Spiritual Intelligence in English Writing through Whole Brain Learning

&lt;p&gt;The objective of this research was to improve the students’ spiritual intelligence in English writing through Whole Brain Learning strategy. Therefore, this study was conducted as a classroom action research. The research pocedure followed the cyclonic process of planning, action, observation, and reflection. This process was preceeded by pre-liminary study in order to know the students’ spiritual intelligence in English writing before being taught by the whole brain learning. The data was collected from the results of spiritual intelligence questionnaire, observation, interview, and documentation. The subjects of the research were 30 students in English Education Department, Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatra Utara. The quantitative data were analysed by using t-test in Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) and the qualitative data were analysed by using Miles and Huberman technique: data reduction, data display, and verification. As a result, there was a significant improvement in students’ spritual inteligent in English writing when they were taught through Whole Brain Learning.&lt;/p&gt;
